There is one thing you can't take away from white men, when they get a first or, at least graduate in a science course, they KNOW what they are doing. I schooled in Naija and I also schooled here (UK), from both experiences, most Nigerians like to memorise and lack understanding, thus, cannot solve a NEW problem or challenge in the field of study while Oyibos prefer to understand. Moreover, the system over here is designed in such a way where an ignorant memoriser will be found out. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A MEMORISER TO GET A "FIRST" HERE. Nonetheless, Nigerians are very hardworking compared to their oyibo counterparts.

Secondly, the UK has removed the university subsidy. As from next year, every UK citizen that is just starting a tertiary education will pay the FULL PRICE (about 8 k and above which is about 2 million naira, per year). Some will obviously not pay, so,they are indirectly forcing people to vocational jobs. This is a government with sense. We can't all be graduates(skilled labourers), we also need the unskilled.
no wonder there has been demonstrations there.austerity measure i guess

That's why Nigerian multinationals keep employing foreign graduates to home trained. Its a shame! Everyone goes to university, not because they want to learn but because they want a "degree". Yet, a "chemist" will find difficulty doing simply titration. An Engineer cannot do simply maths. A doctor does not know where the liver is located(check the career section you'll be amazed).
nna forget it. i will not even bother going there lest i get a heart attack.  cheesy

What we need is COMPULSORY FREE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION. That will make everyone literates. University is too far!

Again, well done Fashola!
gbam. something i have always told guys here.a sound primary and secondary school education is enough to make one literate.university education is simply SPECIALIZATION IN AN AREA,

i listened to a program on radio continental a few days ago when citizen jones was hosting some university students.o boy come see knockouts and bangers flying in from diffferent angles  shocked  grin.

someone who could not stomach it had to call the program to ask if those guys were actually undergraduates?

Every pepper seller and omo Igboro wants a degree. The Nigerian education system has been bastardized! In Nigeria, a first class graduate in Engineering cannot convert 100 cm to meters. This is a FIRST CLASS STUDENT!

We see most of them here in the UK
, they do their masters 3 to 4 times before they actually pass! Shame!

Fashola is right! This is a leader that thinks and does not conform, the type of leader we need in Nigeria.

Let me correct some misrepresentations here;

Firstly,The assertion that Lagos has a population of 18million is ABSOLUTELY false.

Second,The Lagos state government do not declare the actual amount of money accrued to the state on a monthly basis, should they do so,Lagos would be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with states like IIlinois,Georgia,Boston et al and can afford to build world class hospitals such as the Emory University Teaching Hospital,Johns Hopkins,Princeton,Stanford and the likes whose costs someone put at 22Billion naira.

The major problem with Nigerian politicians is fiscal indiscipline;they claim to spend 100 naira on projects that actually cost less than 5naira. Find out how much they claim to spend on their "half bread is better than none" hospitals and see if it's not very close to the cost of the afforementioned world class hospitals.

Lagos state has the wherewithal to financially compete with every state of the US if only Uncle Fash and Tinubu will be honest to declare how much the state really makes
are you saying it is less?

Jakumo:
It is hardly surprising that beneath all the speaking in tongues and hollering of "Thank you Jesus", a good many Nigerian miracle pastors deeply detest one another for the exact same reason that rivalries among street-level drug dealers generally end in gunfire and bloodshed.   That reason is of course market share, which translates into the number of drug-buying addicts served per night in the case of narcotics dealerships, or, in the smoke-and-mirrors world of religious charlatans, the number of cash-carrying punters lured through the front doors of miracle churches to be fleeced in the name of the Holy Spirit.

Every ten dollar purchase of crack cocaine that is sold to a drug-dealing ghetto gang competitor equals a ten dollar income deficit to whichever gang controlled the block previously.   Identically, every salvation-seeking tithe donor lured from one church to another is regarded either as a blessing from Jesus by the church who successfully reels in the donor, or, as an instigator of holy war by the church deprived of tax-free income from that particular victim.

In short, the vendettas and blood feuds raging between dueling Nigerian miracle pastors are all about the money, and who is trying to grab whose.
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammo.

Residents groan as Ogun banks remain shut Featured
Written by Agency Reporter

Stranded customers at the gate of a commercial bank at Lalubu Road, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, as the closure of banks continues in the state owing to robbery scare , on Monday. Stranded customers at the gate of a commercial bank at Lalubu Road, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, as the closure of banks continues in the state owing to robbery scare , on Monday. NAN.

Commercial activities in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have been grounded as commercial banks have refused to open to customers for the fifth day for fear of armed robbery, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The unanimous decision to close the banks in the state since December 1 was informed by the spate of bandits’ attacks on banks at Ifo, Ota, Ijebu-Igbo, Ilaro, Ago Iwoye and Sagamu.

Fearing a spillover effect on Abeokuta, the management of the banks collectively agreed to take the preemptive action by refusing to open to customers since Thursday.

A NAN correspondent, who visited Lalubu Road where most of the banks are located, reports that none opened for business.

NANalso reports that not even the assurances given by Governor Ibikunle Amosun and the state Police Command could persuade the banks.

Some customers, who spoke at Kuto Market, decried the development, saying that it had caused them grave losses in their respective businesses, and pleaded with the state government to come to the aid of financial institutions in the state.

“No one is safe; it is very ridiculous. The government must wake up to its responsibility by helping these banks,” a trader said.

Adijat Koleoso, a frozen food seller at Kuto Market, observed that most of her customers could not patronise her due to the banks’ closure.

A public servant who identified himself as Julius, said, “I have been here since the past week to collect my salary but to no avail. Customers are distressed, even the ATM machines that could have been helpful are not working properly.”

However, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, told NAN that the command had made adequate arrangements to protect lives and property.

He said the command had also deployed 200 mobile police men in the vicinity of the banks with constant patrols being enforced.

“The bankers are hereby urged to go about their normal business as security is guaranteed,” Adejobi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, added.

Will not be suprised. He has already started the ground work.
why doesn't he concetrate on building up capital oil to and enviable standard?

is this the groundwork he has in mind?
In the middle of this year, the opposers of Peter Obi were very happy because his popularity waned. Now with all he is doing, his popularity is rising rapidly. The opposition are not happy.

His problem is compounded by his refusal to support the Governorship of the owner of Capital Oil, Ifeanyi Uba, who has already hired the building used by Soludo as his campaign office owned by Chief Austin Ndigwe, Ozo Gidigbam Gidigbam as his campaign office.

It is believed that the group had reached to the Governor, Victor Umeh, Ojukwu’s wife to help make Ifenayi governor, but did not get firm assurances as they expected.

On Wednesday, the anchor man of Capital Oil, Austine Ndigwe, arranged for Anambra’s Speaker, Chinwe Nwebili; the deputy Speaker, Orizu, Emeka Idu and the one called AFRICA. With Capital Oil’s plane, they flew them to Lagos where they met with Ifeanyi Uba. The money given to them:

Speaker: 200,000 Dollars

Deputy: Speaker 180,000 Dollars

Idu: 150,000 Dollars

Africa: 150,000 Dollars

They were charged to recruit at 40,000 dollars each any House member that can join their group. After that and seeing how happy they were, Uba flew back to Lagos with them and slept with the Speaker.

Uzu Awka believing that the deal is done, is now going all over town boasting that they are now in charge. The man who talks any how is even boasting that having made love to the speaker that everything is alright
