BTW you still haven't answered question. What did this man do to impact positively on the lives of Igbo people between 1982 - till his death? He returned to Nigeria in 1982
why are nigerians still shouting for a sovereign national conference?

Was a cessation our only avaliable option?! NO!! But Ojukwu, hungry for power, filled with anger and his blood pumping jumped to the conclusion of pulling out of Nigeria.
i am suprised that okija juju said nothing about the reneged aburi accord in his long post.

This weapon was best known to the biafran soldiers as the widow-maker cos it was known to kill both the handler and more often than none miss the target.

With such crude weapons, I wonder if most of the deaths on the Biafran side during the war were actually done by the Nigerian soldiers or caused by "friendly fire/ogbunigwe-suicide".  undecided[/quote]nigerian soldiers did not kill anyone.they simply stood and watch the ogbunigwe as it killed biafran soldiers.

Toll on Lekki-Epe expressway to commence Dec 18
On December 2, 2011 · In News

By Jude Njoku
LAGOS—Barely one year after tolling was suspended on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos State Government and the concessionaire handling the construction of the 49- kilometre road, Messrs Lekki Concession Company Ltd, LCC, yesterday announced December 18, as the new date for commencement of toll on the ever-busy road.

Governor Babatunde Fashola had on last December 29, suspended the collection of toll on the road after persistent public outcry, especially by residents of the area. The suspension was, however, lifted by the governor during the presentation of the 2012 budget to the State House of Assembly on November 14.

Announcing the new commencement date at a joint press conference by the State government and concessionaire, the Managing Director of LCC, Mr. Opuiyo Oforiokuma, explained that the rates announced before the suspension late last year, remained unchanged. Similarly, he said toll would for now be collected at the first toll plaza named Admiralty Circle Plaza.

Oforiokuma, who was assisted at the briefing by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, and the Special Adviser/Director-General, Office of Public Private Partnerships, PPP, Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi, had before the briefing, taken newsmen round the alternative route provided for those who might want to by-pass the Admiralty Circle Plaza. Such motorists according Gbeleyi, are expected to veer off the expressway before the plaza into Yesufu Abiodun Oniru Road, down to City of David Church and Market back unto the expressway.

The LCC boss explained that the suspension of tolling on the road was to enable the state government provide the alternative road.

On the toll to be charged, Mr. Oforiokuma explained that vehicles plying the road had been graded into six categories. He said the normal toll for Class M (motorcycles) would be N50, while saloon cars and tricycles will pay N120, Sports Utility Vehicles, SUVs, minibuses and pick-up trucks, N150, commercial Danfo mini-buses, N80. Continuing, he said Light trucks and 2-axle buses will pay a toll of N250, while heavy trucks and buses with two or more heavy axles will be charged N350. He advised motorists who ply the road on regular basis to go for the electronic mode of payment, called e-tag and swiftpass, to save time and money.

The Information Commissioner debunked the insinuation that Fashola suspended the collection of tolls on the road in order not to jeopardize his chances at the last governorship election. He insisted that the suspension was made to ensure that a motorable alternative road was been provided. He said: “We have met everything that the residents complained about and I can assure you that nobody will be shortchanged in the transaction.

haha living to regret it?if only nigeria was a developing(forget developed) country and progressing well then your assertions would hold water but in this situation we all are in? we will all enjoy it together.after all poverty index across the 6 zones proves it.

are you talking about being president?hehe i can see how northern presidency has changed the life of the average guy in the north or how obasanjo's presidecy changed the southwest to eldorado or how jonathan's presidency has turned your niger delta to dubai.

The ibos wanted to quickly ensure an upper hand in the race by eliminating the yorubas (who used to be allies with the ibos and will potentially shorten their ration) along with thier northern rivals.

Clearly when states were created, "viability" or self-sufficiency was not a consideration. Even all the so called "Oil Producing States" could not be considered viable at that time as the "Oil Boom" came much afterwards. So the only reason the states were created was division. Laws were then put in place to make the center so strong and in control of all the resources of the country, and to be doled out using a "sharing formula". Is that what a federation is?

I keep repeating this, but it's not surprising that Gowon came up with this strange interpretation of a federation. This was the same man who had to ask what a federation was after the counter-coup of 1967 when one of the planners of the coup made the suggestion.
are you sure about this?

FG to get N80b loan from Chinese Govt for Abuja Light Rail
On November 30, 2011 · In News

Abuja – The Federal Government plans to obtain a soft loan of about five million dollars (N80 billion) from the Chinese Government to complete the Abuja Light Rail Project.

Mr Ahmed Wadada, the Senior Special Assistant on Project Monitoring and National Assembly Matters to the FCT Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed, disclosed the plan in Abuja while speaking with newsmen.

Wadada said the rail project was important to the FCT administration, adding that the loan was part of the contractual agreement that would better the lives of Nigerian through the execution of projects.

He said that the problem of funding had been taken care of, as fund would come from Nigeria. The remaining is a soft loan from the Chinese Government and the process would soon be concluded.

The senior special assistant said the fund would soon be made available, adding that both governments had concluded the process concerning the soft loan.

Also speaking, the Project Manager of the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company, Mr Charles Chang, gave the assurance that the company was committed to executing the job as expected by the Nigerian Government.

He said that out of a total of 96 culverts needed to be constructed on the rail right of way, only 26 were ready while 35 kilometres track was completed out of the 64 kilometre track.

He said that the construction of the sleepers had reached an advanced stage, adding that coaches, as well as five bridges for the project were ready. (NAN)

That piece of history is here on NL and you must have seen it, so how did you get to your conclusion? Please, let us be respectful and appreciate other people's positions. I was not even here when all these troubles were brewing and I am sure MOST ardent commenters were not as evidenced about a thread here not long ago. I ask you one question: Did you ever see the raw video of what the Soviets did to Berlin in WW II? That can only be done when your intention is to completely annihilate everything human beings, buildings, everything - not just kill a few and take prisoners. Did you know that even the Nazis would rather be captured by the Americans than fall into the hands of the Soviets? Death was almost sure either way but have you seen a person killed so hard there is nothing left? Please, for goodness sake, let us leave all this trouble behind.

In my opinion, the cost of breaking up Nigeria by war or violence is so high it is unpayable and will possibly last a very long time so much so if victory were ever won, it is would be a Pyrrhic victory and the conditions for even a sustainable attack: an overwhelming superiority in men, fighting equipment and intelligence gathering that tells precisely what the other side would do.
i have always wanted to see raw footages of that.
