Sir I put it to you that Nigerians patronised the league then because we had no other options. There was no way to access foreign leagues on TV so the available became the toast of town.

That to me is the major reason we had crowds then but not the only reason. The other reasons you gave counted too.

But you know this won't stop unless private individuals take charge? Governments are ready to sell (it reduces burden) if buyers approach them.
well maybe private sector has not seen any evidence that would be able to make money in it (maybe absence of clear cut policy by nfa or nff)

Igbos just pretend, because we permit them to do many things.
if we talk of markets, igbos are 100percent.tell me 1yoruba man who is a major spare parts dealer, who is a major electronic appliance dealer, who is a major plumbing dealer, who owns a hospital, who is a large supplier of grain food.i can go on and on and u would discover that in our own land,we are relegated! so what are igbos still talking about.why do we yoruba have nothing?
if this isnt a joke then i wonder what to call it

It is neccesary because i discovered that in most of the public schools, even the igho claiming english speak broken to you and if care is not taken, they would baptize u into pidgin english.
i also discovered that some yorubas' cannot speak pure english without shooting a gun.it is so horrible that in the lagos markets 80 percent of trade of the yoruba and igbo is communicated in pidgin english.20% yoruba.yoruba are not selfish ,its d oda way round.but cos of unity we permit too many things.igbo take our lands, our businesses, our markets, our houses, jobs and now our "Language" ? mba no no!
this is hilarious

Brazilian league is followed by its citizens, they patronise the league, not all their best leave, in fact what they do most of the time is to do a win win transaction. You sign my players but must allow the players stay in the league for some certain seasons before leaving. You should know this.

There is money in the Brazilian league too because alot of the clubs are privately owned even though it's not as rich as some European leagues.
now on the bolded in the 80s i am quite sure nigerians patronized and fervently watched nigerian league..at least i remember the leventis, abiola babes, ranchers bees and iwuanyanwu nationale rivalries.. the ansahs, john bensons, wole odegbamis, adeolu adekolas, abubakar balarabes, ayo ogunlana, tajudeen oyekanmi, amokachi, uwakwe eke, mike obi, chike arisa, justus ewendu, joe ashinze, chimezie nwanaga, friday ekpo, bode williams, yekini, ben nwosu..the followership started reducing from the early 90s becasue of falling standards and birth of cable tv..maybe the fa should work on that falling standards angle..as for private ownership issue i have always believed that the scenario where clubs are run by govt should be stopped .

Till?

So that you can then encourage them to leave again?

The league should scout 18 years old and build them, then let them leave again, then start the cycle all over again?

I don hear you sir.
brazillian and argentine league scout and develop home talents..does not stop the talents from going abroad even early since financially they cannot compete with european teams..doesnt stop their leagues from being good leagues.

Gernot Rohr Snubs Nigerian Iniesta For Poland, Serbia Friendlies

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/9023Sokari.jpg

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has not handed an invitation to CS Sfaxien midfielder Kingsley Sokari, dubbed the Nigerian Iniesta, for the pre-World Cup friendlies against Poland and Serbia.

Tunisian outlet Gnet earlier claimed that the playmaker will definitely be summoned by the Nigeria Football Federation for the friendlies which has not happened.

It is understood that Sokari is not in contact with Rohr and Nigerian Federation officials regarding a recall to the Super Eagles as at Tuesday, March 6.

And bearing it in mind that it would take up to three weeks for the former Enyimba man to process visa applications to Poland and England, it is safe to say that he is not in the plans of the Super Eagles coaches for both games.

A product of Port Harcourt City Academy, Sokari starred for the Flying Eagles at the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup and was on target from 25 yards out in their 4-0 win against Korea DPR .

He has full caps for the Super Eagles but has not been invited to the national team since the appointment of Gernot Rohr.

Good move, if you ask me. Actually, I am of the school of thought that teams should be allowed to make as many subs as they want. I don't understand the benefit of capping the subs at 3.

GOALKEEPERS: (in no particular order because its the only department that is very much up for ravish by any personnel. About Akpeyi, I still believe he will make the cut but not as first choice because of his exploits at club level)
Ezenwa, Uzoho, Akpeyi.

Messi, Aguero, Caballero In Argentina Squad Vs Italy, Spain; Dybala, Tevez Out

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero top the list of 22 foreign-based stars invited by Nigeria’s Russia 2018 World Cup grpup opponents Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli for next month’s international friendly fixtures against Italy and Spain, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The two-time world champions will face Italy at the Etihad Stadium, home of English Premier League leaders Manchester City on March 23rd and then take on Spain four days later at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitan.

Sampaoli also handed invitation to Manchester United and Everton defenders Marcos Rojo and Marcos Funes Mori who last featured for the Albiceleste in March last year due to long-term injuries.

Chelsea second choice goalkeeper Willy Caballero also got the nod for the games following some impressive showings in the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup.

Other regular names in the squad are Paris Saint-Germain forward Angel Di Maria, Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero, Nicolas Otamendi, Javier Mascherano, Lucas Biglia and Ever Banega.

There was however no place in the squad for Paulo Dybala who recently returned from injury for his club Juventus, Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi and Carlos Tevez who rejoined Boca Juniors.

Messi missed last November’s 4-2 friendly defeat to the Super Eagles in Russia as he was rested by Sampaoli.
Argentina are drawn in Group D with Nigeria, Iceland and Croatia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

THE FULL SQUAD
Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero, Willy Caballero, Nahuel Guzman

Defenders: Marcos Rojo, Funes Mori, Federico Fazio, Marcos Acuna, Eduardo Salvio, Nicolas Otamendi, Nicolas Tagilifiaco, Gabriel Mercado

Midfielders: Javier Mascherano, Leandro Paredes, Manuel Lanzini, Giovanni Lo Celso, Lucas Biglia, Ever Banega, Angel Di Maria
Attackers: Gonzalo Higuain, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Diego Perotti
