This is really absurd. If you enter any country with out a passport, you are deported as soon as possible. You are not imprisoned, in fact if you apply for Asylum without passport in Europe you can get temporary permit.

In no where in the world is entering a country with out passport a capital offence. We have stowaways who smuggle themselves to Europe and North America without passport and most of them are given temporarily Asylum until they sort themselves.

Even at that it is a no capital offence entering Nigeria with out passport which could be missing in transit or lost.

Actually having 10 passports is not a capital offence even importing broadcast equipment is not a treasonable offence.

Let me counter your thread in a diplomatic way brother.

LAGOS- you will agree with me that there are lot of industries in the state which is not limited to oil alone. FCMG, Steel, Beverages, Automobile, Power Generation Company, Manufacturing, Agrobased/Agro allied industries, etc. The state has a way of diversifying if her IGR is mainly generated from oil which I don't think it's entirely based in oil.

OTHER SOUTH WEST STATES: Aside Ogun been the most industrialised state in Nigeria, she is blessed with natural resources like limestone, a commercial hub of 60 perecent building/construction material in Nigeria. Agricultural sector in the state is massive and others I can recall for now. Even though Osun has economic issue, if their resources is well utilised, their IGR will increase.

The income tax that all the companies in Lagos excluding banks pay is not up to what the oil companies pay.
A single director in chevron or total can be paying an annual tax of N30m meanwhile all the staff of KFC and TFC and Mr Biggs don't have upto that type of tax.

I quite agree with you that Lagos will not crash finally but the decline of the oil industry will impact Lagos seriously and heavily.

Lagos would cease to become a mega state and when finally a niger delta state like Akwa ibom, bayelsa or Rivers state finally builds a deep sea port, then it is a game changer for the Niger Delta, because niger delta is closer to Abuja than Lagos and niger delta is surrounded by industrializing cities like Aba, onitsha, Nnewi umuahia, Enugu.
All the Niger Delta need to do is build a six Lane highway to aba or link them with rail line for the port to boom.

I can agree with you on borno state, borno is actually the richest state agriculturally only if boko haram can allow borno to work. Nigeria will have beans, fresh water fish and onion in very ample export quantity and quality.
As for Zaria the Zaria people are lazy.
Plateau is the second richest state agriculturally in Nigeria. If only the herdsmen can allow them farm export ready salad fruits and vegetables.

Agriculture doesn't not account for that much of the economy other wise farmers would have been controlling the economies of Nigerian states.

N39.4 B is for recurrent expenditure while the IGR is N20b, which makes Enugu state more prepared to exit any financial difficulties arising from oil price crash.
Enugu gets little or nothing from federal allocation.
With removal of ghosts workers and prudent reorganization of its structure Enugu doesn't need niger delta oil money.

The budget of Ebonyi is N99
N35.b is for recurrent expenditure while IGR is N17b

With more investment in agriculture and cement manufacture Ebonyi is as good as an independent state independent of Oil allocation.
These 2 states received the lowest allocations from the federal government in their skewed revenue allocation formula but today they are having the Last laugh.

First kano started off as a very big city of Commerce. The first plane landed in kano.
But what do we have today, kano has not maintained the position of city of Commerce.

A look at the Igr of kano is discouraging at barely N13b per annum which is below the expected threshold.
Kano doesn't measure of in the academic world too as kano ranks very low despite its huge population.

Kano does not have any industrial hub functioning as the textile industry is gone. Kano populace are not schooled in the business of entrepreneurship. Now for kano to generate enough revenue to fund its recurrent expenditure which is more than N6b it would go for broke.
Kano budgeted N219b with recurrent of N70b and capital N148, meanwhile the igr of kano was just N13b for 2014
Which can not even fund the recurrent for 2 months

The point is Abuja at best would remain as it is, simplistic and maintaining the few infrastructure there.

But for Lagos I honestly don't see much hope.
Where would the money to maintain the bridges come from. Lagos just embarked on gigantic construction project the eco Atlantic which requires a lot of infrastructure.

For starters like Akwa ibom, they just need to start economic projects that would sustain their infrastructure like deep sea port, gas projects etc.

While cross river should build on their tourism and agriculture.

I have no comment on Osun, oyo, ogun states for now for certain reasons.

While for the middle belt states if only fulani herdsmen can allow you to farm then there is hope.

For the South East more investment in the industrial sector, auto and machine parts, steel sector, power generation, shoe making etc some rice, Palm investment

While for the extreme north, I have no advice.

The decline of the oil industry is going to be worse on the states of Lagos and kano.

Lagos because an analysis of the igr of Lagos shows that Lagos derived it's revenue from the income tax and the income tax bulk is from the oil workers whose offices are in Lagos.
The oil and gas component of the Lagos igr is more than 40% of the igr. Income tax paid by high earning oil and gas industry executive who gross average of N5m monthly has helped Lagos


Secondly kano will be the worst hit as the only state whose take home is equivalent to the take home of niger delta states with their 13% derivative.

Kano doesn't have the human capital to generate income tax.

Third state /city is Abuja. It is said that Abuja was built with oil money, where would the money to sustain and maintain Abuja come from if not the same money from niger delta.

Some states like kwara, benue, adamawa can easily with agriculture fight the downturn of their economy, how would sokoto, yobe, jigawa whose populace don't farm and whose land is far from economic centres for export of agricultural products survive.

The next in line are the hausa cities of katsina, batching, kaduna who benefitted from the lopsided federal allocations. Now that the oil wealth is going and there is no human capital we hope they will not turn to insurgency as a means of raising attention and revenue.

The states that would enjoy and be kings in the new dispensation.

Anambra, Nigeria's brain box and commercial hub will have its non oil economy growth unequalled and unrivaled. Anambra survived with no oil allocation managed the little it had and built an enabling environment for investments.

Akwa Ibom, this state was blessed with resources and good managers who used it very well to grow infrastructure and are currently working on a sea port.

Abia this state hosts aba, Nigeria's city of enterprise and football, aba is living beyond oil already.

You just reminded me, I have been busy for some minutes comparing the telecommunications industry with the shoe industry and to my greatest surprise I just found out that the shoe industry is bigger than the telecommunications industry.

But the issue is that the shoe industry is a quiet one while telecommunications is well branded.

I also want to suggest the government agencies getting a brand ambassador like the successful stars from Abia state like Kanu Nwankwo, basket mouth, Don jazzy and J martins to brand Aba shoes and become brand ambassadors of the Aba shoes and watch sales hit the roof top.

There is really a lot to do, the governor of abia state as the chief marketing officer of the state should be visiting some key states where the Aba brand will be launched with the brand ambassadors using their skills to show case these products.

Having retail outlets where distributors, retailers can get these products will also assist like a warehouse in key regions of Commerce . Also friendly states can also promote these products in their states while abia reciprocates. For instance anambra and abia can partner, abia to promote and patronize anambra cars while anambra can promote and patronize abia shoes of the same contract.

The abia and Ebonyi government can get into bilateral trade agreements for rice and shoes instead of Ebonyi importing shoes and bags for staff they buy from abia while abia should purchase all its rice from Ebonyi.

Eastern states are not cooperative enough.


The government should also leverage on the affordability to offer free shoes to pupils, primary and secondary school students who perform academically very well.

Documentaries also on the aba shoes should be made and made available freely on the Internet.
Calendars, diaries should be used to highlight these products and given free to friends of the state

Both are industrial and commercial capitals of Nigeria no issues with that, both are not in competition they complement each other. Onitsha has the largest market in Africa while aba has the largest SME in Africa.
