Car TalkRe: Thermostat by auhanson(m): 5:27pm On Nov 05, 2012
Ikenna351: Your car is running thirsty because the thermostat was removed. You need to get the thermostat back to the thermostat housing. Test the thermostat before you put it back, i mean the one removed. How to test the thermostat, has been treated here. Find it and read. If you can get a new one, of the same part number or degree celsius removed, better.

Thermostat or no thermostat, has nothing to do with loss of fluid in the cooling system. Thats what the clown should have dealt with, and not removing the thermostat or wondering why it hasnt been removed all the while as "Nigerian used". This thing with Nigerians and thermostat removal theory! What a mindset!

There must be a leakage, that causes the reduction or low fluid in the system. It could be a leaking radiator, worn radiator/expansion bottle cap seal, leaking hose, leaking head gasket, unclamped lines/hoses,etc. Like i said, he needs to find it. If he is not good enough, find a better clown or a true mechanic.

I believe your radiator fans are spinning constantly. Of course, for him to have thought of thermostat in the system as a bad thing, he would see a radiator fan working as factory as weird. So, he would connect them to spin constantly. Dont bother to ask me how i knew, because its what they do. It will sound weird to me if your fans still spin as factory designed. Get those fans back to how the manufacturer of that car designed it.

Also, if you want to get rid of rich running, mix water and coolant in the system 50:50.

And finally, make sure someone bleeds the cooling system, when the whole job is done. If not, the system, including the engine, will overheat like HELL! Goodluck.

Ikeena , if i may add to that , the result could also be that the water pump is week or getting bad. You could notice that as in some coloration around the water pump indicating some kind of leakages. That is if you have checked thro all the hoses, radiator and whatever and found no leakages , changing the water pump will stop the shortage of water.

Car TalkRe: Front Wheel Drive Vs Rear Wheel Drive; Which Is Better? by auhanson(m): 11:10pm On Oct 31, 2012
platinumricky: Both drive systems have their strengths and weaknesses.

Front Wheel Drives
(FWDs) have an edge over Rear Wheel Drives (RWDs) in slippery conditions due to the weight of the engine over the driven wheels (they often hv a 60:40 weight distribution ratio), this gives em extra traction.

FWD systems are compact due to the transverse layout of the engine and tranaxle. This makes them lighter and much more fuel efficient as a result..besides,they cost car manufacturers less to design/build. Unfortunately, most FWD Systems can't handle Engine HP outputs in excess of 270hp due to a tendency to generate 'torque steer',this drawback,in additional to questionable stability @ high speeds make them unfavourable for motorsports.

RWDs on the other hand have a much more favourable 50:50 weight distribution (due to their longitudinal engine setup and mounting of their gearboxes along the transmission tunnel) and handle better. They also have greater stability @ high speeds and are much easier to predict when they close to their 'limits'. RWD platforms cost more to develop and they aint as fuel efficient as the FWDs due to their weight (thanks to their suspension and other driveline components).

RWDs can handle a lot of power and are favoured in racing circles.
What more to say? Apart from the fact that the frequency of changing shaft to that of back axle is almost 10:1 in front FWD and RWD respectively. Also, RWD handles more rough terrain than FWD; and is a lot more durable rugged than FWD
Car TalkRe: Thermostat by auhanson(m): 10:09pm On Oct 31, 2012
onye ego: Ikenna and Siena,I have a Mercedes Benz 190 that is pre 90, I love the car cos of its ruggedness and reliability.
I know that the thermostat have been removed long ago based on the assumption that it causes overheating and the fan blade is welded to the engine.
Whenever I drive the car the temperature gauge is usually below 80 but it rises rapidly when idling but doesn't overheat.
I also observed that the temperature gauge will show readings slightly above the 40 degrees mark whenever the ambient temperature is cold(say when it rains)

I will like to know if I will have the thermostat reinstalled and other things I need to do.

Note:After going through the thread I called the mechanic to tell him of my intention to reinstall the thermostat but he strongly advised against it.

Thanks
What you could have done should have been to change the thermostat from that of temperate zone to tropical, it's sold in our market-i did same to my 190 cos i love the car so much: You can also install an extra big factory mercedes benz fan at the front, with a big radiator too, in that manner, you would not have any rise in temperature even while idle with or without your ac on..Also, I gues your fan blade were welded because the fan magnetor was faulty and was blowing up your fuse, hence couldn't blow fast anymore..there is nothing wrong about that anyway, though you could have just change the magnetor or buy a new blade with magnetor
cheers

It depends on where you are. 30k is a lot of money in gombe, but the same 30k is peanuts for someone who stays in ikeja and works in vi.

And in places like Port Harcourt, it's a pocket change!!!

What ever be the case, it takes the supreme couragious mind to resist the corridors of power and resign as in this case..Nigerians still have honest & men of integrity, most especially in Akwa Ibom state

Sometimes, I wonder if majority of those claiming to know it all knows anything at all. Everyone clamour for the good things of life but it is taboo for them to support the government to deliver.
Here is an elected President who has identified a way in the removal of fuel subsidy but Nigerians would not understand.

For a sincere mind, it is simple logic that if market forces are allowed to determine the prices of petroleum products, it will encourage investors to move into the oil sector, create jobs and engender competition. On the long run, just like we wanted, prices will crash naturally. However, since we always look for shorcuts, most of us would like to eat our cake and have it.

Being a peace loving President who hate the thought of Nigerians being killed in a senseless uprising, he has decided to tarry a while for more consultations as to why we have to endure the initial pains of fuel subsidy for future gains and we are still crying! Sure, it will take a mad man to straighten things in this land. I make bold to say that I voted for GEJ and he has not disappointed me one bit! I would rather have a listening President than any other!
Many of those master-minding the call for mass revolt are the cynics who are always quick to condemn but with no realistic alternative solutions to Nigeria's problems. The rest of the people shouting are just follow-follow! They don't know what they really want!

Nigerians should give the President the chance to rule in line with his convictions. If and when he fails as many have predicted, history will judge him correctly. Of course, we have to keep our governments on their toes but we shouldn't grind them to a halt.

Kbrown, If all the sharp practices(including the missing 60000 barrels of oil daily, etc) underlying this fuel subsidy thing is tackled; and recurrent expenditures by Gov. trimmed down; excessive take home by politicians controlled, Nigeria would have no need for the removal of fuel subsidy that would further increase inflation in our land. How can there be subsidy when a collective few are eating large on the the missing 60,000 barrels of crude oil daily , while we the larger population living in poverty should be paying the subsidy thing for them to continue living large in lottery. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2011/12/15/the-nnpc-probe/

It never seems to amuse me how our head is being used in this country.
PoliticsRe: Don't Blame Gej, Blame The System by auhanson(m): 7:25am On Nov 17, 2011
I still have hope in the country. Our problems I believe constitute a passing phase in our collective struggle to move the nation forward.

Yes I agree, but you can also bare witness that some have vow not to let it work, and have mobilise all their effort and soul and wicked to make sure it dosent work.

9ijaMan, I had so much hope and expectation in Nig that one day we would finally be freed from d slavery of evil leaders to purposeful visonary leadership and transformation, religion nor ethnicity not withstanding, but it seems like Nig wud never achieve these. We've been hoping for too long for this country but if we should fail again ds time around, I have no bizz for Nigeria anymore, cos by anology ds wud be an indication that we can't make it anymore
PoliticsRe: Don't Blame Gej, Blame The System by auhanson(m): 9:57pm On Nov 16, 2011
Yes! The problem is the system not GEJ, I would only be disapponted cos I expected so much from Him, d magic to perform and transform etc. Perhabs we almost forgot that He,s not God but mere mortal. Also, perhabs His so call advisers r not doing a good work other than setting Him up; perhabs He's only being too careful not to act in error but learning from His mistakes that He should have been faster than this, Perhabs He's going to surprise us very soon, I still dnt want to believe that I voted Him in error, else, I would be very disappointed and would'nt go to d polls again in ds country, We r all expecting Him to wake up and use all d veto power we accorded Him and transform this country, we dnt want ds excuses anymore, d power is within Him,He must use it,and use it well; else posterity will never forgive Him for disappointing us
PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan Should Resign! by auhanson(m): 10:31pm On Nov 08, 2011
In as much as we're in democracy, we can in clear terms suggest our opinion to the senate as our contributions in what GEJ shld do to resolve these Boko Haram crisis instead of resignation, which cud further down complicate our predicaments
PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan Should Resign! by auhanson(m): 10:06pm On Nov 08, 2011
Resignation is d worst thing to happen now due to series of unpleasant events that could follow soot. We rather should encourage Him to wakeup to His powers as commander-in-chief and handle the bull by the horn. We must have to tolorate Him at this junture, while firing His Bottom to wakeup from slumber. There's nothing wrong if the house can take over the deliberation of these Boko Haram thing and derive solutions mandatedly to the president since he cudnt handle it in the first instance: Afterall, the house have been doing gud works recently, Over 100 million intelligent Nigerians can't be found wanting like this because the president can't act
