More troubles for APC: Northern coalition drags Buhari to ICC
SPECIAL REPORTS
2015-01-22 22:22:09
*Says “we have evidence against him over 2011 post-election violence"
Still battling with his certificate scandal, there are more troubles ahead for the Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) with a coalition of 17 non-governmental organizations operating primarily in the Northern states of Nigeria calling for his prosecution over the post-election violence of 2011.
The organization has already sought the services of an interactional human rights lawyer working with ICC.
The group said in Abuja on Thursday that it has evidence that the highly inflammatory public comments made by Buhari prior to, during and immediately after the elections-led directly to the deaths of over 800 people and the displacement of more than 65,000 individuals in April 2011.
Professor Goran Sluiter, a partner at the Amsterdam law firm of Prakken d'Oliveira Human Right Lawyers and a lawyer practicing at the International Criminal Court (ICC) who addressed journalists on behalf of NCDJ said a complaint would be filed in the name of the group to the Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC in The Hague.
The complaint, according to him, would supplement a previous ICC filing submitted by the NCDJ in May 2011.
"Based on the available evidence, there are compelling reasons to believe that crimes against humanity including murder, torture, rape, forcible population transfer and other inhumane acts were committed in the context of the politically motivated sectarian violence that immediately followed the Nigerian presidential elections of April 2011.
"Due to the seriousness of these crimes and the lack of adequate response by the Nigerian authorities, the prosecutor of the ICC will be asked to conduct investigations into the alleged acts and their perpetrators, in particular former head of state General Muhammed Buhari" Professor Sluiter said
He argued that the evidence collected to date strongly suggested that the highly inflammatory public comments of the then Congress for Progress Change (CPC) presidential candidate in 2011 was responsible for the deaths of over 800 people and displacement of more than 65,000 individuals.
Professor Sluiter further stated that bringing those responsible for electoral violence to account would go a long way towards diminishing such threats and restoring faith and confidence in Nigeria's political system.
He maintained that NCDJ represents the aspirations of all Nigerians who look forward to a day when their country's politicians regardless of their party, faith, ethnicity or geographic affiliation can and will refrain from the kind of hateful and sectarian rhetoric that inevitably leads to death, destruction and displacement.
While also speaking during the conference the Secretary General of NCJD, Umar Farouk said the group was compelled to reiterate its resolve to sustain the process for the prosecution of General Buhari for his role that led to the 2011 post-election violence in some parts of Northern Nigeria.
He said it is in the interest of the nation that those responsible for the premeditated arson, killings and destruction of properties must be brought to justice noting that the case when instituted in 2011 was devoid of partisanship and any form of political colouration
"We recall that just before the 2011 general elections, the then presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, General Muhammadu Buhari had categorically directed crowds in Hausa at his campaign rallies in the North particularly Minna, Kaduna and Maiduguri to protect their votes at all cost including killing and elimination of others", he said.
Professor Sluiter will be in Abuja from 22 - 25 January in order to consult with the NCDJ and other stakeholders.

Enough of APC propaganda, this is 21st century lets get into issue based campaign, not name droping, slander and pronounced bitterness. If Buhari says he will pay five thousand naira monthly to unemployed youths and the disabled, let him tell us how he intend to generate such fund,we are talking about 50 million Nigerians who run into this category. When he said,he is going to stabilize international oil price,he shld pls tell us how he intend to do this.He says he will end insurgency forthwith,he shld tell us how he intends to apply his magic wand.
Nigerians has gone past the age of political deceptn, its nt all about shouting 'sai Buhari',we are nt all bunch of sentimental fo*ls,we need practical answers.God Bless GEJ,victory is his.

The Figures That Convince Me Jonathan Is the Man for 2015

2015-01-15 20:58:31
Recently, some APC stalwarts principally the party抯 chairman claimed that Nigeria has deteriorated under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan and that APC offers a better solution, but is that true ? Rather than make subjective claims, it is better to examine the facts by global verifiable standards.
The most acceptable global composite standard for judging progress or development is the HDI Index. Many accept that Nigeria has not moved as fast as it should in this index. It measures three basic dimensions of human development, such as long and healthy life, knowledge and a descent standard of living.
The highest development is measured as 1, and anything below from 0.9 to 0.01 are a continuum from very high to very low respectively. But if we examine the facts from this measurement, in 2013 the Nigerian measurement on this index is 0.504. ln 2010 when Jonathan assumed office the Nigerian measure was 0.492, but in 1985 when Buhari left office Nigeria was second from last at the bottom of the table with our rating at 0.421. So, although Nigeria has not reached the highest ratings such as 0.810 to 0.870, under the Jonathan administration, it has moved up the Index since the time of Buhari.
(Cover picture:President Goodluck Jonathanat Army Day Celebration 2013)
But to show that this is a factual measure, If we examine some of the key indicators which make up this index such as life expectancy, which measures how long a person will live if all the prevailing conditions at his/her birth remains so throughout the person抯 life, we also see that, in 2012 the life expectancy of a Nigerian was 52.7, in 2010 it was 51 when the Jonathan administration assumed office. There are some who will say that this is an effort to polish the image of the administration, but these measures are not conducted by Nigeria but by independent organs allied with the United Nations to measure the progress of mankind, and they often speak frankly to developing nations to let us know that where we are presently is far from the ideal and we should keep aspiring to that ideal. But what is the APC offering ? Looking back at the life expectancy of Nigerians in 1985 when Buhari left office, it was 47.18 years and by 1999 when the civilians took over from the military that claims to have come to correct the ills of democracy, the life expectancy of Nigerians had actually fallen to 46.71years.
Moreover, it must also be pointed out that, although the national average in terms of HDI measurement is used as the standard for a country, it does not reflects the lived reality of everyone or the reality everywhere in a country. This is especially true for some of the indicators used to measure the HDI such as the standard of living which usually takes account of things like poverty rate and distribution of poverty. If we take the national distribution of poverty, low life expectancy and low literacy rates in Nigeria, it is discovered that the worst indicator measurements can be found in states that were formally ANPP.
The leadership value of ANPP can be directly associated with the leading presidential candidate that APC is offering as an alternative to the Jonathan administration. And the APC is saying publicly that the development that Nigeria is boasting about does not reflect on the people, but in actual fact, it is states under the leadership of the legacy members of APC which is pulling down the national average. The data from states under Buhari抯 former legacy parties, are pulling down the national average. If we take away the data from these states, we might fare a lot better, what this means therefore is that what has worked better in other states should be emulated by these states, not the other way round.
So, the question is: What is APC offering Nigerians? Is it progress or regression? Because apart from these quantitative facts, the APC is also offering qualitative expectations. They tell us that Buhari is an upright leader without administrative blemish. But many have pointed to the public records not political statements to verify this claim.
They point to human rights abuses. For example, Tai Solarin spent 17months in jail arrested with an illegal warrant of arrest which had only a photocopy of the signature of the Chief of Staff Supreme Headquarters. A Nigerian journalist, Vera Ifudu published that she was informed by the late Chief Olusola Saraki who was then in the Nigerian senate when the matter was probed that, the 2.8 Billion United States Dollars which was missing at the NNPC under the Obasanjo regime while Buhari was Minister for Petroleum was traced to Buhari抯 private account at the Midlands Bank in the United Kingdom. She was forced to resign because of this story, without evidence to refute her story. While late Fela Ransom-Kuti was arrested for possession of Foreign exchange by the Buhari regime, money that was meant for the upkeep of his band on a foreign tour.
He was forced to spend 18months in jail, by a judge who was forced to imprison him by the Buhari regime, whereas on the same matter of illegal foreign exchange, when the Buhari regime was kicked out, his head of security, Lawal Rafindadi was found to have operated several personal foreign accounts, and until he died he was still fighting to unfreeze the accounts seized from him.
Also, Buhari and his deputy, Tunde Idiagbon made a law for Nigerians, that no one, under 18years should go on pilgrimage to the holy land Mecca but Idiagbon himself was found returning from Hajj with his 14year old son, when they were dethroned. Buhari was aware that Idiagbon went on hajj with his under-aged son. So they made one law for themselves and another for Nigerians. Similarly, while Buhari was Chairman of PTF, an audit of the Agency found that over 25 billion Naira was missing though the agency, his relative Ahmad Salihijo, whom he appointed as the sole consultant in charge of all the transactions of the agency, died when the audit committee was constituted, some say he committed suicide to hide the facts, we will never know. But the audit report found many cases of clear over-invoicing and importation of expired products by the agency.
Therefore, looking at the quantitative progress of HDI indicators since 1985 and qualitative evidence the farce of Buhari抯 mythical uprightness, it is hard to understand, where the confidence of the APC lies that it is offering Nigeria a better choice for 2015

Guy,you know absolutely nothing about Jos,the city where Odenigbo was born and raised. During the heydays of Jos no city in Naija can match her when it comes to civility, serenity and clean environment . The climate is fantastic with springs littered everywhere with lush beautiful vegetation. Jos was the number one tourist destination in Nigeria with some of the most impressive infrastructure. I was born at Jamkwan Hospital when whites called the shots and there was a polo field right behind the prestigious hospital. Jos was beautiful, safe and food was cheap and abundant....The famous Tomatoe jos,ji manpam(manpam yam) are all grown there and the powerful kingdom of Kwararafa that dealt a big blow to the fulani is situated in Jos. And the indigenous people of the city are so nice and hospitable and mostly Christians of Catholic denomination. We went to block rosary with them and life was full of fun...every sunday we ate fresh salad worshipped at Our Lady of fatima Catholic church....Then came the crisis and kaput!
But I believe jos will rise again.
waoh!you said it as it is,am igbo, born and schoold in Jos,whenever i think of Jos,its always a fond memory,i remember my secondary school days at St murumba boys sch.Jos, was fun and then our UJ days, the clubs, girls and the weather!!!'God bless Plateau st,sweet home'!Btw,I was in Enugu and Akwa and Ibari Iwa in Owerri this past christmas, only then i realised what i had missed being away from home.

Or would u say they were hired? It is in the same vane, those rascals who killed and maimed Corpers in 2011 resorted to post election violence for whatever belief they had which sounded right to them. And u started to reason that I said it was right. Poor sense of judgment.

Mr representative, the Nigerian majority are not silent this time around, and they yearn for change. They yearn for a country devoid of corruption, terrorism, and other anti-developmental vices. Know that
The more you try to defend your statement the more you expose the hidden hatred that beclouds the thinking of an average Buhari supporter!Ain't you tired of trying to justify your gross stupidity, you are nt on trial,so keep it to yourself....think about this, why are Buhari supporters prone to violence?why does he attract fanatics?why are the core muslim north seeing him as their only saviour?why did he say that an attack on boko haram is an attack on the north?why did he ask muslims to vote only muslims?why did he lead the group that went to the then Ogun state governor,to ask why are Fulanis being killed in Ogun inspite of the obvious?why did he jail Ekwueme and only had Shagari in House arrest?why did he serve under the corrupt Abacha regime and ran the most corrupt parastatal (PTF)?why didnt he resign when Nigerians were gnashing their teeths under Abacha, since he claims to be an angel?why did he focuse most of the PTF project in the North at the detriment of south-south and south East?why was he justifying and comparing Boko haram with Niger-Delta militant and accusing the government of unfairness to Boko haram?
Finally, why is every accusation against him hanging on ethnic and religious chauvinism and has never been seen as a nationalist,'a stitch in time saves nine',say no to an extremist and an egocentric bigot, say no to Buhari!our children deserves a better future in a country called Nigeria and not the emirate of Nigerianstan!

Let me inform you that another of his son is warming up to be president after Obama if he gets the GOP nomination. Did Americans refuse to vote the son because the father screwed up ? No because they don't reason like morronss like you.

Moral of the story is that change is imminent and when people see such, they should embrace it and stop tripping like some piece of freaking diickheads !
just the way Americans will never allow a coupist who truncated a democratically elected government, to ever contest any election and infact would have been spending time behind bars in America....Americans voted Bush jnr even after his Father screwed up according to you,we would also vote Buhari Jnr if he has what it takes to bring in change, just the way we wld ve voted Fashola,Rochas,Oshiomole,Kwankwaso,Amaechi and nt same old senile coupist who is a serial failure and has nothing to offer modern Nigeria.

Dude, shut up please. You probably weren't there in bauchi in 2011. I saw what PDP's money did in my polling unit and in the north where GEJ was unpopular. There is no justification for murdering innocent youth corpers, and i condemn it in total, as I also condemn the NIS stampede killing of youths. I wish you'd take this your e-campaign to reach that too, and stop being a douchebag with it.

My concern in this election in 2015 is voting someone who can start fighting corruption, terrorism and give us power to start with. GEJ in my opinion can but will not do it because he's surrounded by people who's forces are mightier than his singular will. Hence he's just there and counting years after years to write his own page of the Nigerian leader without epic moments.
you sound stupid by your comparism of the two situation above, its pathetic that some Nigerians died during an immigration exam and just the way people die during hajj or climbing mount Arafat in Mecca or Pilgrimage to Isreal but for the youths of the core North through the prompting of their extremist leader Buhari, ended up wasting innocent lives, simply because they where perceived not to have supported their fanatical leader Buhari is both appauling and disheartening.
GEJ is the president of Nigeria, yet people insult, criticise him and nothing happens but in some part of the North you can be lynched for criticising Buhari who is nt even a president yet,is this the kind of leader or change you will wish for Nigeria?Sheik Gumi attested to the fact that his life and that of his family is under threat just because he meaningfully criticised Buhari, just the way he has been criticising GEJ.
What will happen to the lives of southerners and middlebelterns in the North,in the event that Buhari looses as usual?Say no to fanatism and tyranical leaders!!!say no to Buhari!

immediately after the last election which Buhari lost woefully, they rised again in the guise of protest and killed so many people in the North, including innocent corpers serving Nigeria and many properties were burnt down. While the youths were killing innocent southerners and middlebeltans,Buhari refused to call them to order.Buhari is only fit to rule the nomadic Fulani nation and not the 21st century Nigeria.
