Never be in a hurry to skip any routine car check, they are lifesavers despite the fact that they seem trivial. These are some do-it-yourself car checks you need to carry out as often as possible: 1) OIL LEVEL: Check the engine oil level daily. 2) WATER LEVEL: Overheating can ruin your day and can cost a fortune to fix especially when it affects the gasket of your vehicle. 3) CLUTCH: Check the hydraulic fluid level always. However, several Nigerians have switched to cars with automatic transmission and this may not apply to them. 4) HORN: Sound your horn every morning to check it is working. Ensure this exercise is not used to disturb your neighbour or other road users. 5) THE BRAKES: Always check the brake fluid, monitor the brake pads and discs to ensure the braking system is effective. 6) INDICATORS: Turn on your traffic indicators to the LEFT, RIGHT, and HAZARD (i.e. both) and ensure they are in order before driving off. 7) HEAD LAMPS: Switch on your low beam and high beam lights to ascertain they are working. Poor visibility at night is a major recipe for road accidents. POWER STEERING: Always check to ascertain the level of power steering fluid in the vehicle.9) WIPERS: Turn on your wipers to confirm they are in working conditions especially during raining season. 10) BATTERY ACID LEVEL: Always check the acid level to know if your battery is going to perform effectively. This usually applies to vehicles that are constantly on the move e.g commercial and pool vehicles. 11) AUTOMATIC GEAR: Always check to ascertain the level of transmission fluid in the gear box as gear issues are usually problematic and expensive to repair. 12) TYRES: Check your tyres in the morning before driving off. Remember, your tyres are the only contact your vehicle has with the road. Worthy of note is the fact that most recent cars are fitted with monitoring devices that carry out most of these routine checks real-time. http://autojosh.com/12-routine-checks-on-your-vehicle-by-vis-vehicle-inspection-service/ Cc Lalasticlala Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy

abiolag:Please panic. The car needs a diagnostic scan and the error code should be cleared. The check light may be as minor as the fuel cap not properly locked, on the other hand, it may be a major issue that is life threatening. Talk to Gazzuz ASAP. You also need to panic in respect of the airbag. God forbid there is a collision. I once stopped to help a guy who hit a curb at lekki roundabout and his head bursted the windscreen of his vehicle because the airbag didn't deploy and the seat belt probably failed. Thank God for life. |

aasunmoh:Report has been generated. Your email address is required so I can forward it to you. Regards. |
savio07:I can run a free check for you. You can drop your VIN and email address here or on my website. The other option is to sign up to carfax or autocheck at a premium. |
kgr8mike:There is a database where vehicle information are kept and updated as soon as anything about the car changes e.g transfer of ownership, accident, theft, repossession etc. The VIN is used to store all that information and we also use the VIN to retrieve the same information which tells us the history of the car. |
Babateemd:I usually use Copart or I buy directly from a local dealer. I always ship to Lagos directly but used the Cotonou route once. |

Babateemd:You may not need to do a physical inspection when you know the exact things to look out for. When in doubt, you can employ the service of a professional vehicle inspector for 90 dollars although I have used this service only once because of the year and cost of the car to be purchased. |
