Car TalkRe: What Could Be Wrong With My Gear. by autologic: 6:07am On Nov 09, 2017
emmaliver:
Please i need your help/suggestions.
My 1998 C 180 Automatic gear, i changed the gear oil (ATF) on saturday, as i was set to travel on sunday, i moved about 2km and the vehicle wont move again. Refused to drive forward but the reverse gear still works.
What could be the problem and how do i fix it please.
Apart from the recent gear oil change ,went last did you change the gear oil .

The idle clog was cleaned this morning, and I used the car without experiencing the fault today.....Thanks for the information.
Thanks for the update.

Both the engine and ignition is switched off and the key is not in the ignition.
You have a faulty fan control module .

The radiator fan of 2008 Toyota Highlander randomly comes on for approximately 2mins when the car is switched off. What could be issue.
Is it when you switch off only the engine or both the engine and ignition.

Am learning too but you didn't conclude the Rav4 that consumes coolant. Or did I miss somewhere?
Sorry I just realise too that I didn't conclude ,thanks to trolls ,derailers and distraction agents on that page .I will take care of it as soon as I round up on this case study.

I think/feel if its the PCM, more than one variable should be stuck not just A/F sensor. I might be wrong sha.
Just a bad transistor driver on the PCM that is localised to single pin on the ecu can cause just a single issue on the powertrain system .Infact ,many cases of ecu issue fall into category of single issue .

When you say PCM, i assume we are talking about just the "brainbox" not the whole system.. so wiring issue will still fall into PCM in that context.
I have no experience in automobile oh, Just a self acclaimed internet apprentice to GAZZUZZ mayor2013 & honmusa tongue tongue
Yes you are right but what I am implying is that the issue can come from anywhere and PCM too is not immune

ok.....will do that tomorrow, but sir....can I still get a rewire to check the wire systems?
Don't let any Kareem complicate simple .My advice is to take to a knowledgeable technician that is verse in diagnosis to check for why before

So i am waiting for the result, even though i can guess which it most probably will be
Why not PCM ? grin
Cos I have another case of black smoking that is totally due to wiring issue .That too will soon be showcase soon.

Need to be taken out cleaned in and out cos it got clogged with dirt from time to time .

That is idle system

My toyota camry envelope light, the engine goes of when break is applied to slow the vehicle down, this happens in traffic light, slowing down on bumps or to enter a bend. Please I need urgent advice on how to go about it. Steps I have taken, the mechanic cleaned the fuel filter, increased the slow system, yet not solved...please help
Your idle air control system is blocked with dirt .
The essence of the idle air control is to ensure the ecu
is able to make adjustment by increasing inflow of air into the intake system in event of increasing load on the engine and thereby prevent stalling.
Tell your mechanic to service the idle system and throttle body properly and don't forget to adjust the idle to factory spec.

empron:
pls can you guys explain more on this.thanks
The injector pulse rate is the indicator of the rate that the ecu is commanding the injector to be supplying fuel .
For Honda generally ,under normal condition this shouldnt be more than 3 ms(if no accessories is on) but 4.1 ms is an outrageous value and a pointer to the fact that the car is consuming fuel at alarming rate due to flaw input signal thereby causing the black smoke symptoms.
Later I will provide the new scan data after resolution so that you can compare .
Car TalkRe: Car Guruz.. Please Help Interprete These Data.. by autologic:
No analysis can be made here cos this is a set static data at a particular instance or condition. The conditions need to be varied to make analytical sense out of the whole array of dynamic data eg idle condition ,acceleration, deceleration, addition of fuel ,removal of fuel etc . Beside it is only the set of scandata pid that is relevant to the issue suspected that the focus will be not some random pid and who determine what pid the spotlight will be on is the technicians that is involve in troubleshooting and the capability of the scan tool to give out the needed pid !
Since the op alreay made mention of O2 sensor issue them the set of pid that the focus will be should be the fuel trims(O value) ! Fuel system type (absent) ,fuel injection (absent) etc .
I advice that you make use of professional scan tool

Test (Measure and compare)
The equipment that will be used for this purpose is
Autel Powerscan ps100 Electrical Diagnosis tool
your normal 1k multimeter can suffice for this test.
(No mind I am just an autel freak ! grin)

Back to the case study !
The importance of conducting integrity test of the two PCM input data to the AFS will be the best accurate test for checking for :
1 .Bad PCM
2.Shorted AFS
3.Bad PCM

AutosRe: Autologic workshop compilation of daunting car issues :Diagnosis and fix by autologic(op):
At this point I will need to reiterate that knowledge of basic skill of electrical concept and troubleshooting skill cannot be separated from automotive diagnosis cos what actually runs at the background on your scan data is basic electrical signaling !
Anybody that run diagnoses and cannot go low level electrical troubleshooting for further test is still a trial and error technician !
What we can even test on the low level is analogue signal but.
what really control the electrical signaling is programming algorithms from the PCM hence for the reason for the PCM naming (powertrain contro Module ).aka engine computer (street name brainbox grin)
The main purpose of the scan data to isolate the possible area of fault out of the whole array of complex system ,in other words the main diagnoses is the analysis of data and electrical testing !
The more quantity and quality of data that can be retrieved will go along way in achieving accurate fix

From Honda manufactured data
At idle AFS(+)=2.2V
At idle AFS(-)=1.8v
Kindly note that this value are PCM input reference value to AFS that is valid for almost all late model of Honda.

Engine capacity -2.4L I4 ,k24Z2

Below is the electrical wiring diagram of the AFS connection to the PCM

Evaluation stage(stop and think)
Since we have been able to infer that it is due to a bad input signal issue ,we should go to through the route of low level electrical testing of signal to confirm all our available signal
AutosRe: Autologic workshop compilation of daunting car issues :Diagnosis and fix by autologic(op): 7:01am On Nov 01, 2017
Evaluation stage(stop and think)
Based on our scan data result ,we can easily eliminate issue of vacuum leak
So we are left with this 3 factor which means that it is a typical case of stuck lean air fuel signal
1.Shorted AFS
2.Bad AFS
3.Bad PCM
AutosRe: Autologic workshop compilation of daunting car issues :Diagnosis and fix by autologic(op):
Evaluation stage(stop and think)
Happy new month to everyone!
From where stop ,we have been able to prove that Honda air fuel ratio is stuck lean but we need to prove further if it is a case of stuck lean mixture or stuck lean signal .
Let look at the possibilities for such occurrence
1.AFS shorted to ground
2.Vacuum leak
3.Faulty AFS
4.Bad PCM
AutosRe: Autologic workshop compilation of daunting car issues :Diagnosis and fix by autologic(op):
Evaluation stage(stop and think)
From the scan data ,we can easily infer that the fuel mixture is seriously running lean thus prompting the PCM to be adding fuel causing the overflogging of the mixture with fuel !
Then from the AFS reading we can easily see that the AFS pid value is stuck lean regardless of engine speed !
So further test is need to confirm the reason for the AFS value to be stuck lean ,maybe it is reacting to something or it is bad
So we continue from there subsequently !

Did you see the pulse rate of the injectors. 4.1m/s that's doubled of what d normal pulse rate shocked
Spot on! cool that is part of pid indicating the high fuel consumption .
Also take note of the flaw air fuel ratio value shocked
