Case1

Car model :Nissan pathfinder 2003

Customer maintaince history :Mobil XHP 20w50 oil change 3000km change interval

Customer complaint: Car is unable to rev past 2000 rpm

Previous work attempt to fix the issue: ignition coil ,fuel pump and injector has been changed !!
Also the cam and crank sensor has been swapped all to no avail !!

Scope of Job Resolution :Fix to resolve the rev issue only

My approach to this kind of issue will be more advanced diagnosis cos scanner and meter are useless in this case !!
the waveform of the cam and crank sensor will be generated with my pico and their relationship(correlation) will be compared and from there I will get all the information I need if truly is a timing issue or sensor issue even without removing a single bolt.

What can you say about this "hard start" issue? and "fuel pump check valve" that the mechanic proposed was the problem?

The First guy did the job actually.

fuel pump check valve is on the fuel pump which means faulty check valve is faulty fuel pump.
But to get definitely diagnosis if truly u have bad check valve ,you need a fuel pressure diagnostics tools to confirm this

I bought a Nigerian used EOD 2004 2.4L 4plugs, I serviced immediately after the purchase but after two weeks I discovered engine oil shortage and also the car consumes more fuel than an average eod. I took the car to my regular mechanic and he said I'll need to ring the engine that some parts are old or worn out already & thats the reason for the colored exhaust fumes when I start the car in the morning , he said there's no need to change the whole engine because the car still moves as fast as any other eod, ac is working perfectly and other features are cool.. But I want a professional advance and also cost of ringing and cost of fixing another engine.
I also want to know if is possible when changing the car engine to a 2.0L instead of the factory 2.4L engine.

You have two issues not related
1.Engine oil shorting which can be due to worn rings and permanent fix is to change engine rather than ringing and is better you swap to same engine capacity inside the car to avoid issues.
2.High fuel consumption :this is due to emssion related issue and you need to have the car scan to have idea what is wrong !!!

Black smoke is an indication of very excessively fuel consumption due to ecu response getting faulty input signal from any of its sensors .
This can range from extremely lean mixture
due to faulty sensors or lean signal due short to ground issue.
Go for diagnosis in a recommended techie that can nail down the cause with modern tool and right skill

Since you confirmed that this issue happen after the servicing of the injector ,then check the injector connectors it they are not connected properly and if connected properly ,check the injector control ground signal to each of the injectors, use a test light to confirm this.

This doesn't require long epistle.
If you want to connect the battery ,standard practice and procedure require you to connect the positive terminal first before the negative terminal and if you are disconnect the battery it should be vice versa ie the negative should come out first before positive.
The essence of this is to protect the battery against accidentally short circuiting the positive terminal to the negative cos all the metallic body of the car has already been connected to the negative terminal.

In my case my car had previous overheating problems which was probably the cause of the rupture, concerning thermostat, to the best of my knowledge and from personal experience the temperature rating for cars in temperate regions is different to those in tropical region so he might also need to ensure he has the right thermostat meant for this region in his car.

Discussion on thermostat has been over stressed times without number on Nairaland.
A thermostat is expected to maintain the internal temperature of a engine at a certain range regardless of the external ambient temperature .
so a thermostat is the same thing for the same car all of the world .
As part of a regular schedule maintaince of a car ,a thermostat is a serviceable part that is expected to be replaced every one year as stated in most car manual. but if you prefer to let it fail before replacement ,u might not be able to arrest the overheating situation and can lead to bigger issue like head gasket rupturing ,engine block warping etc.

I am need of advise here,just got a Toyota Sienna 2004 model, but I fathomed that it is extremely overheating.
At first the Temperature meter wasn't working so I scanned it and got a error saying the Cooling System wasn't working, after checking the mechanic discovered that the cursor was really bad,we changed it and the meter started working.

After driving it for a while the reading on the meter went after half and to the red line...

Things I noticed was, upon starting the car the fans don't roll,not until the AC is put on.
Once am in traffic the temperature goes up again.
The Check Engine symbol was showing statically,but after putting the cursor is was now blinking all through.

A mechanic is asking me to remove the Thermostat and I have read here that it is not ok to remove.

Please advise me...

check the fan speed and also try to wash off all clogged dirt on your radiator and condenser.

Head gasket don't just go rupture unless there is a hidden overheating cause so it better to troubleshoot the root first which can range from leaking cooling system ,stuck closed thermostat ,faulty fan which in the case of the op and also u mentioned tropicalized thermostat ,there is nothing like tropicalized thermostat but stuck open or stuck closed thermostat fault .

I had a similar problem with my car, it turned out that the gasket was flat. You may need to change your gasket but before then have your thermostat checked to ensure it's a tropicalised one you have.

Dont assume that the worst fault that can prevent a car from starting is engine o ,have u heard of flooded car before ? flooded car desn't have solution o ,so I will advice u run for your life .

Does it goes off after the car has fully started or remain on permanently? It is normal if it goes off but indicates problems with your powertrain if its remain on permanently.

U don't get it , oando atf , Mobil atf , total atf , are brands name. The specification and grade that fits your car is what really matter ,brand is less important. For example Dextron 3 is specification and grade of atf that are recommended for Camry 2001.,but their can be different brand of dextron 3 , Mobil,oando etc.

It is called Volkswagen atf .I doubt if u can get it locally, u might need to order from eBay or make enquiry from siena

Some Camry 2002-2004 vehicle with four cylinder engine (2AZ-FE) may indicate MIL ON condition with DTC P0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1 ) in the PCM
Also for this same vehicle Some customer complain of excessive sulphur dioxide odour under the following condition :
-Stop and go driving
-Heavy acceleration
Kindly note that this is a manufacturer error and Toyota TSB fix has been published for it

FIX:
1.0 The ECU firmware is to be updated from to current calibration ID 33337000 to 33337100
2.0 Complete replacement of the whole Catalytic converter with to part no 25051-0H011
