7bucklife:
I just recently got brand new spark plugs about 2 weeks ago. I noticed its consuming fuel like never before. Pls is it normal. I got them for 8000 naira pack ngk. Or did I buy fake,I have a sample which I will upload soon.
Higher fuel consumption is a factor of so many things. Although fake spark plugs producing weak sparks can affect engine performance. The brainbox will adjust and spray more fuel in order to produce more power and this is to compensate for the weak spark.
However, the way you sound, for you to have noticed the higher fuel consumption it feels like there is something else causing this higher fuel consumption other than the plugs

Can you provide more details on what job was done the day you replaced the plugs?
Also how much fuel did you use for certain distance covered compared to after you replaced the plugs?

You need a competent tech to help you diagnose.
Let him check your MAF/MAP sensor signals, O2 sensor signals, fuel trims etc.

That should help guide in the repair process.

They already saw my learner sign. As I packed one side and I roll down my glass the AC breeze meet the officer.

He said "are you a learner?'
I answered "yes I'm a learner?"

For him mind he done cash bushmeat.

He replied "Let me see your learner Permit"

I just scattered my papers from where I keep them and handed it over to him. He goes through it and couldn't even pronounce my name.

He never thought I would have a learner permit.

He replied "you can go."
He didn't bother to check other documents.

Then I zoomed off.
Wow just wow. You have been opening new threads for everything happening in your life.
What exactly is the point of these thread exactly? How does it help anyone?
Why not go to Twitter and post your life stories there? Should we expect another thread of the goat that impregnated a dog on your street?

It's quite annoying how these useless threads of yours keep popping up everywhere using up valuable time and space that other people who genuinely need help can use and get help in return.

Baba can you grow up already?
First you made like a million threads about different cars you had interested in but you never bought.
Next you finally got one and created another thread again.
Next you are here creating another thread that a policeman stopped you.

You dont realise what makes cartalk interesting is also the fact that you could have created a single thread, take people along in your journey to owning a vehicle, tell a beautiful/ugly stories of inspections, the ride you finally bought etc.
It is the story/journey you document that is the fun. Why create many threads and just cause noise all over the place?

You really need to grow up man.
Lik wtf....

chris81964:
Good afternoon folks. Update. I notice a slight slip in my transmission. Most people would not notice it. I did.
I drained the transmission and put 4 liters in. I will drain and fill again in one week and one week later I will repeat. Remove the drain plug let it drain. I am getting a transmission filter and gasket sometime later this month. I will replace the filter then.
Check your fluid it should be bright pink.
The spill was accidental.
Any update on the bolded?

I did another drain and fill for the transmission. I also changed the oil and filter. I will do a more thorough inspection under the car.
Saw some leaks. I have replacement valve cover gaskets. The transmission pan needs to come down. I will replace the filter when I do that. Noticed another torn boot. The car should have some grease points. I will find a service manual to allow me to do that.
Power steering flush, front and rear differential and transfer case fluid replacement is next. I would have completed the full fluid replacement with that.
When I do the valve cover gaskets I will replace the spark plugs.
I will have the belts replaced at a later date.
So far so good. You do these services for peace of mind.
Summary of what I have done so far.
Cooling system flush. Prestone radiator flush, drain then liqui Molly flush, drain. Distilled water drain. Then Prestone 50 50 coolant.
Liqui Molly engine flush. Oil change Rotella T6 15W40 and new filter. 800 km another oil and filter change. Oil smells like gasoline when it came out. Good sign it is doing its job. Might also need to check PCV.
Transmission drain and fill. More than 60 % of old fluid is in the torque converter and lines. Did a second yesterday so I have more new fluid than old. Next time will remove the pan and replace the filter.
Techron total system fuel treatment 12 Oz in the tank.
New air filter. Old one was disgusting.
New Tyres. General Tyre.
Many more things are planned. The torn boot will be done by Tuesday.
Welldone chief.
How much has this cost so far?

My central control screen on my Mercedes E350 2010 suddenly went blank after the car was parked for 2 weeks.. I’m being told I need to locate the fuse in the fuse box

does anyone have an idea where I can find this fuse in my car… there’s a fuse box in the engine compartment of the car and the back storage of the car.. where do I locate this fuse?? …

How do I find the right fuse amongst other fuse
What color? Number ??

technicians in the house please help 🙏🏽
@bolded baba everything no be fuse always.
Sometimes you can be lucky its just a fuse. Other times its more than that.
The comand system of the Mercedes na bery werey something.
We have fixed some that was just fuse, some others na the comand don spoil. Other times rat fit don chop wire somewhere.

My advice? Find a competent Merc technician to help you check it.

If you wanna do it yourself then search for COMAND fuse and your model. You should be able to get something online.
Youtube can also help too.

One other thing to keep in mind on sludge is that, a clogged PCV valve is a major contributor. I don't know that many Naija mechanics change this.
That said, more cars are sludge prone even when you've done everything you should. Still not sure why I've seen more sludge on Toyota in my little experience. My basic comparison is Toyota vs Honda. I don't run a shop, so my this observation may not stand to statistical reasoning.
People like Gazzuzz et al who have a large pool of cars they service would be in a better position to comment.
you are very correct on this. most mechanics don't replace it as a serviceable part. they dont even know the function.
and yes it is a very high cause for sludge formation.
most pcv systems are non-functional causing by-pass gases to remain in the crankcase instead of it being recycled into the combustion chamber.

It seems like you are fixated on something. Folks here once accused Dru23 of destroying his Kia Rio with his extended performance oil. Mobil 1 for Toyota Honda and Nissan was made for a reason. It is like a Toyota Corolla 06 using premium unleaded fuel. A lot of people were using Castrol edge extended performance 5w30 on a Toyota 06 when the same oil is recommended for a 2018 range Rover Evoque. Oil na oil team

but the guy never mentioned if the vehicles in question here used the extended performance.
Itsrm will you be kind to shed more light on the exact oil used here.

I will go with the e-hailing reason.
It was used in 'a severe manner'.

Short trips, long idling times etc.
Oil changes should have been sooner. The change to 2500 OCI has seemingly solved the problem.

Thanks for your contribution.

I normally do an engine flush on any car that I purchase. This gives me a baseline. You might need to change your oil more frequently. I use Shell Rotella T6. It has more detergents in it. It should help with your sludge issues too. Bolt is a more punishing duty cycle than your privately driven car.

true... because the more hot and cool cycle the oil goes through also adds to the possible formation of sludge.

The oil were way above what was recommended for Toyota. I remember that I told them that Toyota never recommended extended performance Mobil 1 but they were swayed away by the guys. So the reason was that the owners were using the wrong oil and it caused sludge
I'm sorry but this doesn't add up to me. If the oils exceeded what was recommended by Toyota as you mentioned, then it is only expected that the oil should perform better.
considering the fact the oils have good detergent and additives to prevent the formation of sludge due to oxidation.
Also consider the fact that the oil change interval was religiously kept at 5,000 miles.

My thought.

I've had direct experiences with two different vehicles I imported myself using the same 1ZZ-FE. Vehicle engine came in clean as a whistle. Mobil 1 Oil was bought from two of nairalands biggest importers, the oil was religiously changed every 5k miles but to my greatest surprise, both vehicles developed sludge after a while.

I have to also add that both vehicles were used on bolt. I don't know if that was a factor. Thermostat was intact and there was no abuse.

Hmmmm this is very interesting.
So wait... Engines came in looking clean no issues. But gets to Nigeria being used for e-hailing and boom the engine don crase again.
Shey na out weather ni abi wetin dey occur gan gan?
because I want to believe the oils used were imported Mobil 1 and they should have been good quality oils.
Would he interesting if we're able to narrow down the specific cause of this sludge build up.

Yesterday, I drove to Epe from Oshodi. I went via Lagos Ibadan expressway.
The Pajero prior to being owned by me averages 500 km per month. The last 2 years as per the owner was spent on the island.
I have put over 500 km in the short time I owned it. The ride is smooth. Would get to 100 without an effort. Refused to go past 120. Lots of noise but no progress. Ride on the Sagamu Benin portion of the road was good. The new Epe road was smooth as butter.
The AC on these cars are good. I did not overheat. I set it to 25 and left it.
Tomorrow I will replace the torn boot, get new spark plugs and replace trans fluid.
Nice ride so far. The vehicle has présence. Black with tinted windows. The police officer that stopped me at a check point only said. Good morning sir. The last time I was driven there they asked for money.
The best stealth vehicle to own. Low cost of entry but a lot of bang for your buck.
Pictures are of my trip to Paradise and the torn boot that will be replaced.
Next time I will take fishing gear with me.
Thanks for these man..

Still watching much content on sludge removal lol. Seems diesel works. I agree that that 1ZZ-FE engine seems more prone to sludge. A friend of mine who has always maintained a rigorous service schedule with 5w-30 is also facing sludge on his 2002 Camry. Generally, I've seen more sludge on Toyota than Honda cars.
Totally agree. do let me know what solutions you come across.
also i believe whatever option you decide to pick, it depends solely on the amount/extent of sludge build up.

Dealing with sludge in a 1ZZ-FE engine presently. Done first flush, but some sludge still remaining. Planning a more aggressive flush. I used liqui moly engine flush initially however I didn't follow up with a 2nd drain and fill. I may use diesel as part of the 2nd attempt. Still researching and planning!

haha...
Does the diesel trick work? used it once on my former Nissan Altima... wasn't sure if it worked tho.
Also I still wonder why the 1ZZ and ZR engines are notorious for building up sludge so much. Seen so much of it, it feels crazy. I personally believe there is only how far this sludge removers can work. e get the kind sludge wey dem no fit comot. those ones that are thick like icing...
