Travel / Warri-Sapele Road: You Can't Ply This Road And Not Spend At Least 2 Days On Road by AutoReportNG: 2:20pm On Sep 19, 2019
This road in Sapele, Warri in Delta state can humble you especially when you are going for an appointment that needs you to be in Warri in no time. The Warri-Sapele Road is no respecter of anyone, once you are on this road, you are likely to spend at least two days moving like a snail.

This road was shared by an expatriate and some road users that were going to Sapele for business. According to them, they have been stuck on this road for days. The road is in real mess such that trucks, cars are struck for days due to the bad roads and inability for cars to navigate the road easily.

The Warri- Sapele Road has been left untouched for years despite the state having one of the highest in terms of allocations, almost half of roads in Delta state are unmotorable. The Warri-Sapele road is less than 10 years after it was dualized by SETRACO GROUP and since then maintenance seems to have stopped and no followup was done since 2009.

The road is so bad that it will take you at least 2 days to get to your destination if you ply this road. Many road users are tired and angry that both federal and state government are not willing to do anything on this road.

AutoReportNG got some pictures from twitter and some from other social media pages.

These are some of the photos of the road...

After a rapturous standing ovation by the Lawmakers when called upon to address them, Onyema described the commendation by the House of Representatives as an honour. According to him, the act “has brought tears to my eyes again. I have never been so honoured in my life.”

Onyema also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for acting maturely in the face of provocation, also commended the Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa.

“I commend the President and Commander in Chief, Muhammadu Buhari for the matured way he handled the issue of xenophobia in South Africa. In the face of very annoying provocation, our president showed maturity”.

“I would not have been able to do this if the federal government did not allow me or assemble those people for me to evacuate,”

Travel / Construction Of The Kara Bridge-Berger Of The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Photos) by AutoReportNG: 10:00am On Sep 19, 2019
Since the closure of the Kara bridge that leads to the ever-busy of Lagos-Ibadan Express road, little has been heard or seen about the progress of the road especially those who ply the road regularly have no clue.

According to reports, the construction of U-Drains and Earthworks are currently ongoing at the Km 5 of the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. This is part of its rehabilitation, reconstruction and expansion of the road.

The construction was being handled by Julius Berger Nig PLC and it is expected to be completed before December.

It will be recalled that On September 2, 2019, the partial closure of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway commenced. The closure became necessary in order for construction work to be carried out in some sections of the expressway.

The construction work would include the expansion of the expressway, construction of underpasses, footbridges, flyovers, toll plazas, etc. According to the Federal Ministry of Works, the reconstruction becomes necessary so that the road will be free before Christmas and New Year.

These are photos of the construction of the Kara Bridge of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway as obtained by AutoReportNG

Car Talk / The New Electric Mercedes-Benz Simplex Concept, A Replica Of Its Old Cars by AutoReportNG: 11:33am On Sep 17, 2019
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a vision simplex concept car that reinterprets the historic simplex as an electric two-seater with freestanding wheels and a digital display in place of the grille. The German manufacturer unveiled the updated take on its 120-year-old design at the Mercedes’ new design centre in Nice, France, on Saturday (September 16th).

The name Simplex comes from the line of luxury simplex cars that Mercedes produced from 1902 to 1909. At that time, the simplex had innovatively adopted a modern front-engine, rear-drive layout with a radiator positioned ahead of the engine.

Like the original, the reimagined model features rounded shapes and large wheels that sit outside the body. Meanwhile, the radiator blends a dominant frame in rosé gold with an opening in the form of a large lens-shaped 3D display that displays the vintage Mercedes logo.

Inside the car, a minimal cockpit displays context-sensitive info like speed and navigation through projections. A steering column, switches, and instrument panel are inspired by motorcycles and nautical design. The colour-and-trim concept, including the Azure blue upholstery cover which transitions seamlessly into the footwell, is inspired by the colours of the Côte d'Azur.

It's unlikely that a production version of the Simplex will ever exist unless Mercedes-Benz decided to update the concept with headlights and some other basic safety features. this is more an illustration of mercedes’ ability to merge the history of its DNA with the technology of today: ‘only a brand that is as strong as Mercedes-Benz is capable of the physical symbiosis of history and future. the ‘vision Mercedes simplex’ symbolises the transformation of the brand-specific luxury of Mercedes-Benz’, says chief design officer Gorden Wagener.

Politics / You Can't Go To Ajaokuta Steel Company And Not Cry - Man Writes On $8b Rot by AutoReportNG: 3:08pm On Sep 13, 2019
A lot has been said and talked about the Ajaokuta Steel Company, just last year, the Nigerian Senate approved the release of $1billion for the revamp of this company but it's surprising that nothing has been done while this edifice that can employ 500,000 people is wasting away with nothing to show forth. The annoying thing is that eighty percent of raw materials needed for the plant to operate are within a 60km radius of the factory. An economist named Kalu Aja was in this place and we wrote on his experience and how industries are wasting away because of the lackadaisical attitude of the Federal Government...

Read below...

No Nigerian can visit Ajaokuta Steel Company ASC, see investments of more than $8b rotting in the African sun and not cry. I went there, I cried. what exactly is the problem? if I have written severally on this topic, but today let me do a comprehensive post.

Ajaokuta Steel is massive, 68km road network, 24 housing estates. Some of the estates have over 1,000 homes, a seaport, a 110mw power generation plant. There are 43 separate plants in Ajaokuta alone. It is estimated that if Ajaokuta becomes operational, it will create 500k jobs.

There is no industrialized nation on earth that does not have a steel sector it’s that simple. The Central Bank of Nigeria reports that Nigeria currently imports steel, aluminium products and associated derivatives of approximately 25 metric tonnes per annum estimated at $4.5bn.

Ajaokuta is an integrated steel company, it was designed by the Russian to be self-sufficient to get all its inputs from Nigeria and make steel. Ajaokuta strength is also its weakness, Ajaokuta can only work with all inputs available.

A technical post, but please try and follow

Steel is an alloy of iron & carbon. Iron is the base metal in steel, to make steel, you need Iron Ore, Coke from Coal, Limestone as main components. These components are mixed in a blast furnace to make liquid steel which can belong steel for rail lines or flat steel for auto

To give a simple example, look at steel as making jollof rice, iron ore is the rice, the limestone and coke are the pepper and salt the pot is the blast furnace. At a steel plane, the blast furnace is ONLY turned on when the steel company is ready to make steel.

Blast furnaces operate continuously and are never shut down. The raw material to be fed into the furnace is divided into several small charges that are introduced into the furnace at 10- to 15-min intervals.

This means everything must be in place BEFORE the blast furnace is turned on, the iron ore, the coal, the limestone, everything, why? Because you do not switch off a blast furnace for another 10 years or however its campaign life is.

Nigeria has all raw materials needed to produce steel including iron ore in Kogi, coal & limestone in Enugu.

Nigerian iron has very low iron concentration. Agbaja has the largest iron ore deposit in Nigeria with about 2b tonnes but the Agbaja ore has a high phosphate content.

Phosphate can cause brittleness in steel making it fracture, thus Agbaga was abandoned for Itakpe. Itakpe iron ore has no issues with phosphate but has low iron content.

Stay with me

Thus to make steel with Nigeria iron ore, a process called “beneficiation” has to be done to process the Itakpe ores to raise its iron content to meet the required standard for steel production.

Coal? Most of the coal found in Nigeria is non-coking, thus, unsuitable for steel production. coal deposits in Enugu, have no impurities but are non-coking. The good news? Nigeria has an abundant deposit of limestone and we have natural gas to provide power

So back to Ajaokuta, what really happened? why can Nigeria not make steel anytime soon? let’s link up the elements

1. Policy Failure: The Ajaokuta contract was signed between the FGN & the Soviet state-owned company, Tiajpromexport (TPE) was scheduled for completion in 1986.

In 2012, the Federal Government launched her backward integration policy. Going forward import licenses for steel products was only granted to companies producing steel locally.

TPE to ensure they could import steel parts for Ajaokuta simply went ahead and built the rolling mills in Ajaokuta BEFORE the actual steel plant was completed, they

Hyundai Motor Company pays homage to its heritage and iconic design Hyundai Pony Coupe while reimagining for the future. Hyundai 45 EV concept demonstrates a new era for Hyundai’s automotive design by focusing on electrification, autonomous technology, and intelligent design. By putting a twist on 45-year-old icon Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept, Hyundai 45 EV introduces totally new in-car experience for future self-driving vehicles.

Taking inspiration from 1974 Pony Coupe Concept, Hyundai 45 EV features monocoque-style body, aerodynamic, and lightweight design. The name of this concept is also based on itself in part to the 45-degree angles at the front and rear, thus, shaping a diamond-shaped silhouette.

Hyundai 45 EV boasts minimalist design, it celebrates clean lines and minimalistic structure just like the original coupe concept. It demonstrates the evolution of Hyundai’s “Sensuous Sportiness” design language. 45 EV features distinctive lattice radiator grille with a kinetic cube lamp design that evokes analogue emotions. It also represents Hyundai’s lighting architecture to the next level, so iconic that you would recognize the vehicle at a distance.

At the bottom of the door, there’s a special garnish that highlights its long-distance battery capability through active LED lights. This way, drivers can intuitively know how much longer they can drive even before they get in the car.

Hyundai imagines that in a self-driven vehicle, the interior would become a unique living space that can be transformed to accommodate a range of passenger lifestyles. The 45 EV visions “Style Set Free” strategy for our future mobility, it emphasizes personalization of design and function. The interior has been designed in a way that this vehicle can evolve into a living space. Inspired by furniture designs, the minimalist cabin is fitted with inviting fusion of wood, fabric, and leather. This warm atmosphere is able to make passengers to feel relax and enjoy the ride.

Depression is like a time bomb, those passing the phase needed to be catered for specially in terms of words, what to say to them and making them see light at the end of tunnel and most importantly, avoid them being lonely, force them to go out, maybe have a stroll at some time

It's often been said that safety comes first in all we do, especially when it has to do with lives and properties. The FRSC are federal agencies that are mandated to regulate and control how cars and buses move, they are to check the amount of load(s) they carry if its roadworthy and will not pose risk to road users, most a times, we noticed that they are not always found in their duty post, those are found look away when money changes hands. Carrying overload is a serious road offense that both state and federal safety corps warn at.

A Micra driver in the city of Ibadan decided to do more than what its meant to do, just as the popular musician sang, "No go dey do pass yourself". According to reports, the Micra Driver has zero #SafetyFirst rule, he was forced to park as the winds blowing the foams almost flip over the Micra Taxi off the road putting other road users at risk...This incident occurred at Oni and Sons Area Ring Road Ibadan.

Politics / Federal Government Approves $5.3bn Ibadan-Kano Rail Project by AutoReportNG: 3:33pm On Sep 12, 2019

The Federal Government has approved the $5.3bn Ibadan to Kano standard gauge rail project.

Disclosing this on Thursday in Lagos during the 3rd Maritime Stakeholders Interactive Forum, the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi revealed that the Honourable Minister of Transportation, State, Gbemisola Saraki will personally be in charge of all maritime agencies while he will be focusing on the Railway sector.

According to the Honourable Minister of Transportation, "In my first term as Minister, I completely abandoned the maritime sector to the Heads of agencies.

This term around, that won't be happening again as I have instructed that the Honourable Minister of Transportation for State should personally supervise the maritime agencies, while I just oversight what is happening.

"There are two things I discussed with Mr. President that I will be focusing on in this second term as Minister, and they are maritime security and the Single Window project. I have assured the government that by the end of 2020, we should have the Single Window at our maritime sector.

"Just yesterday, we got approval to complete the $5.3bn Ibadan to Kano rail project. We have also applied for funding to commence coastal rail for the Port-Harcourt to Warri segment.

"On maritime security, I have told the Israeli firm HSLI that they are too slow. By now, they should have launched. I want to know the situation of things with the aspect of security on our maritime space."

Whats your take?
Car Talk / See The Amazing Transformation Of This Danfo Bus As Done By A Mechanic - Photos by AutoReportNG: 3:05pm On Sep 12, 2019
Every day we come across some people are simply genius in their chosen fields and they can remake anything they wish to do.

A mechanic in an African country (seems South Africa but we are not sure of this) decided to tweak our popular danfo bus. For those who are not Nigerians, danfo is a popular commercial bus in the city of Lagos, Nigeria, they come in Volkswagen buses some are popularly known as Fedeco and some other funny names best known to the drivers. The danfo bus in Lagos is a mean of transportation, they are painted in yellow colour with a black stripe across it.

Danfo buses are Lagosians last resort as they can weather any bad roads, they are timely, fast and God bless you, you come across the combining of driver and conductor that come from hell, please, remember to confess your sins as you are embarking on the journey. Danfo buses in Lagos usually come with mixed feelings, it is in this bus you encounter different sort of people, from bankers to students to market women and the lists are endless.

Imagine having a tweaked danfo bus like this in the city of Lagos where we all chill to relax and no tension whatsoever. The mechanic did a good job by changing the sitting arrangement couple with a center table for either coffee or for any other discussions.

What's your take on this?

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun commissioned 100 patio vans and 200 motorcycles to strengthen internal security in the State.

The Governor who applauded the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, for his swiftness at ensuring that normalcy was restored back to the state when kidnappers struck in the state between the 23rd and 24th of July and the 1st of August said that the state would henceforth continue to have a zero tolerance for criminality, cultism, kidnappings and other unwholesome attitudes in the state.

Prince Abiodun made this known at the presentation of one hundred vehicles and two hundred motorbikes at the arcade ground of the governors office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said that the helicopter that was released for surveillance on the instance of the president helped the state in curbing the issue.

The governor affirmed that no part of the State would be a safe haven for criminals and criminality in whatever form, adding that with the reconstituted security trust fund which had being moribund, his administration amended the law setting it up, with a view that the reconstituted security trust fund won't have governance issues, as it had in the past.

" We reconstituted our security trust fund which had being being moribund, we amended the law setting it up so that we can have in the fund people who can make it successful and also ensure that it has the right governance, so that it can be autonomous and independent," he said.

In his response, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu noted that he came to sensitize and encourage men of the force in the state to continue to add more value to issues of security, saying that the federal government was doing a lot in terms of equipping the Nigerian Police.

He said that the federal government having noticed that the force was lacking behind in terms of weapons and other equipments, had embarked on the purchase of equipments, which he said would help the men discharge their duties properly.

Adamu also added that the Nigeria Police would be introducing a community Policing across the country, adding that, when the time for recruitment comes, he would come and ask the state government for assistance in the area of recruiting best hands.

He also disclosed that the Nigeria Police would be leaving behind a special task force to be headed by Fimihan Adeoye, a former commissioner of police in Osun state to help the state in bringing an end to criminal activities. These are some of the images obtained by AutoReportNG

doctokwus:
Aside the 2 drivers, which hopefully their injuries ain't that serious,I highly doubt any passenger could have died from this accident, from pictures one is seeing.
Nigerians like exaggerating things dangerously, particularly those not even at the scene.
At the end they give those at home and reading, even more trauma than the relations or friends directly involved in an accident.
Death is not something you speculate about.
Even one is not sure of deaths at an accident scene, don't speculate on it.Leave it to those responsible to convey the news and casualty figures!

Check the source for videos... That should help at least.
