Travel / Despite 800 New BRT Buses, See How Lagos Bus Terminals Look On Monday Morning by AutoReportNG: 11:18am On Aug 27, 2019
Lagos, the center of aquatic splendor is definitely not a place you dull yourself on a Monday morning especially those living on Mainland who are working on the Island, it's normally a tussle as everyone is trying to meet up with appointment, offices and not to be caught in traffic reason why it's being called the rush hour! Mondays are usually hectic and busy with few or no bus for commuters who have no choice than to wait on a long queue.

This is the crowd at Lagos bus terminals on a typical Monday morning. This is the Berger-Ikeja BRT terminal and you can imagine the crowd at this place despite no buses at sight.

There’s a popular song by the Afrobeat musician, the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, which says, “in Lagos, you must approach everything you do on Monday morning with a sense of urgency”.

Despite the introduction of 800 new BRT buses to the roads, it still looks as if no impact was made in terms of transportation in the city of Lagos. Transportation is the pilot that moves a megacity such as Lagos, it is, therefore, essential that the state government should design a long-lasting road map that will be sustainable and curb all traffic jams being experienced in the city of Lagos.

We can allow the Uber, Bolt, OBus, of this world to provide an alternative to the middle class who are looking for a service that provides comfort as close to their private cars.

Provision of decent public transportation service to the population at the bottom of the pyramid is where mass transit has its greatest strength and this is where our captive market is located.

Education / Transport University, Daura Katsina: Expert's Opinion by AutoReportNG: 3:10pm On Aug 26, 2019
Last week, the minister of transportation, Rt Hon. Rotimi Ameachi hinted that the university of transportation will take off in Duara, Kastina State comes September 2019. Ever since the news broke, many stakeholders, gurus in the transport business has been reacting to this.

Among the gurus in the field is the MD/CEO of Lagos Bus Services Limited, Mr. Seyi Osiyemi who is a Public Transport/Urban Mobility Expert. According to the post on his LinkedIn page, he wrote...

So it appears that the FG is really serious about the establishment of a new ‘Transport University’ in Nigeria. The first time I heard about this initiative, I dismissed it as a joke taken too far.

But what’s the purpose of a transport university, when we have hundreds of federal owned tertiary institutions that are struggling to keep their classrooms open due to poor funding?

To the best of my understanding, it seems that the transport university was part of the deal with the Chinese for the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Kano Rail line, as a mechanism for knowledge transfer.

Whilst it’s important that we need to develop local skills and competence to manage our railway infrastructure, which is key to our economic development, however, this can be achieved without creating a ‘transport university’.

Aside from the existing federal universities of technology that offer transport courses, that can be improved, we also have the National Institute of Transport Technology in Zaria.

It’s ironic that the NITT, which was established in 1986, was actually conceived as a ‘Railway Training Institute’. So why can’t the NITT be upgraded to a full university status?

I’m really struggling to see the rational behind the initiative.

Another reader name Akinyele Makinwa wrote...

Same question I asked my very self when I read it this morning. I struggle with so many WHY within me. I just drop the thought since I have no answer to this. I want to say the fund to establish the University of Transportation in Daura would have been channel into Ajaokuta Steel Company or construction of good roads in Nigeria. More than 50 Universities are offering Courses related to Transportation both at 1st degree and postgraduate level. My Opinion anyway.

Also, Adedeji Aremu Ph.D
. has this to say...

By definition, a University is an assembly of academics and students for the proliferation of knowledge in society. A university is never the acquisition of depreciating assets. It is not wise to establish another university on this matter. Why not offer scholarships to students to study transport related courses and also initiate research projects that address the transport needs of the country. Starting a transport University despite the many universities in Nigeria doing transport course.

Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe has this to say...

Nigeria to start Transport University, Daura this September, according to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. How I wish they would stop this escalating bureaucracy and put that money in the departments of Transport Management in FUT Minna, FUT Yola (MAUT), FUT Bauchi (ATBU), FUTO, and FUTA. These five universities have solid transportation management programs that can be expanded. A new university means new VC, bursar, etc and just colossal inefficiency.

What's your take on this?

Politics / Amaechi Embarks On Inspection Of Lagos Ibadan Railway - Photos by AutoReportNG: 12:42pm On Aug 26, 2019
Barely two days after being sworn in as Minister, the Minister of Transportation, Hon Chibuike Amaechi has embarked on an inspection tour of the Lagos Ibadan rail line.

The minister of transportation, Mr. Rotimi Ameachi has since resumed his duty post and has hit the construction site of the Lagos-Ibadan Railway site. The site has been on low key since May when the tenure of the minister elapsed.

He and some of his team decided to embark on-site assessment of the place and see things for themselves.

The Minister in a determined move to ensure the development of robust rail infrastructure in line with President Muhammadu Buhari's vision had made the inspection of the rail project in his first four years in office a monthly routine since its commencement of in 2017.

Recall that during the last inspection tour of the project on the 10th of May, which was two weeks to the beginning of a new democratic dispensation, the Minister announced that the track laying on Lagos Ibadan rail line would be completed by the end of May ahead of its scheduled three years completion date

The 157km Lagos Ibadan rail project was awarded in 2017 to the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company, CCECC to the tune of $1.6billion with a three years completion agreement.

Speaking shortly after the inspection of the project in Ibadan, in May, the Minister of Transportation said the laying of the rail tracks had already gotten to 123 kilometers.

" So remaining 34 to 35km which they can cover in the next three weeks which they confirmed would be completed before the end of May.

Currently, track laying from Iju-Ibadan is 100percent completed, while construction work from Ebutte meta to Apapa is ongoing.

Crime / It Takes Me 4 Minutes To Steal A Vehicle’s Brain Box - Arrested Robber by AutoReportNG: 10:55am On Aug 26, 2019
The operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, a unit of the Lagos State Police Command, have arrested two suspects, who specialized in vandalizing vehicles and stealing their brain boxes.

The suspects - Sodiq Musa, 28 years old and Saidu Atiku, 34 years old, were arrested at 27, Awolowo road Ikeja with three Toyota vehicle brain boxes while Ridwan Adamu escaped with the fourth box.

One of the suspects, Sodiq claimed he was a graduate of Political Science from one of the Nigerian University where he studied Political Science before He came to Lagos in 2017 in search of greener pasture.

“I worked in Lagos as a barbeque man in various hotels and events before I met Ridwan who introduced me to brain box theft where He taught me all the antics and styles.”

“We use ‘magic stone’ that is, a vehicle spark plug to break vehicle windows without attracting attention. It takes two minutes to loose a Toyota Hiace bus brain box and it takes four minutes to lose a Toyota Hilux box”.

“The spark plug reduces the noise and effects quick break of any vehicle window and we tie the plug in a handkerchief in a situation where we have multiple vehicles to work on.”

In his confessional statement to the RRS operatives, Sodiq told the officers that Saidu was a security guard who works for a company located on that street where they were arrested and had earlier in the day called Ridwan who is the leader of the team to come feast on vehicles belonging to their company which are parked outside the company’s premises but which he Saidu is supposed to guard.

On getting the hint, Ridwan and Sodiq set to action and got to the venue around 1:00 a.m. The broke into two Toyota Hiace and two Toyota Hilux belonging to the company who employed Saidu as night guard stealing their brain boxes before another security nearby raised alarm. This led to their arrest. Sodiq was caught with three boxes while Ridwan fled with one.

Sodiq was thereafter taken to RRS Headquarters, where he confessed the involvement of Saidu. He disclosed that he invited them for the operation and was reported to have slept beside the vehicles, which they vandalized and stole from while Saidu cooperated and pretended like nothing was happening.

“We specialised in stealing Toyota brain boxes because they fetch good money in the market. The demand for them are higher than any other brand. For example, we sold a Toyota Hiace bus for N40,000 while that of Toyota Hilux goes for N20,000 respectively”.

“Ridwan connects with the buyers of the brain boxes who he claimed are from the popular spare part market in Lagos. We always meet the buyers outside the market where we exchange our loots for cash.

They usually pay in cash and will never wait more than two minutes as we already have an understanding on the prices”.

“Ridwan gives me 40% of whatever we make from the sale of our loots. He has never disclosed where we were to carry out our next operation because he feels he is my boss.

Our target areas are usually night clubs where people come with different types of vehicles. We strike around 1:00 a.m. - 2:00 a.m. when most of the clubbers would have started enjoying themselves”.

The suspect also confessed to have stolen two boxes at a popular night club in Lekki, another at Ogunlana Drive and Allen Avenue, Ikeja. All these areas house popular night clubs and joints in Lagos.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu in his reaction to the incident directed the transfer of the case to State CID, Panti.

He advised nightclubbers in the State to be extra careful while enjoying themselves and leaving their vehicles parked where it’s not safe.

Car Talk / Here Are Reasons Why Your Car Paint Fades by AutoReportNG: 3:28pm On Aug 23, 2019
Many times we noticed that slowly the paint on our car begins to fade despite taking adequate measures in terms of cleaning, scrubbing and lots more. Most times we noticed that the black coat suddenly starts to peel at times we have to wax all over again to bring out some shininess. We need to understand that our car is a reflection of our outward appearance and in some cases, it's not about how much efforts we put but its all about results.

Your car’s appearance matters, because it somehow reflects the owner’s personality just like how one’s home does the same. If you own a car, you may notice that your car starts to fade as the years go by. AutoReportNG got some few tips on how your car paintings are fading

4 Most Common Causes of Fading Car Paint

Have a look at what is harming your car’s exterior paint and what you can do to avoid continuity fading of the car’s color.

Sunlight

Areas like Lagos, Abuja and some major parts of Nigeria experience sunlight. Sunlight in Nigeria is rated as 12 hours, 17 minutes that is from 06:40am – 18:57pm.

Exposure to the elements and in particular the sun is a major contributor to the paint on your car fading in color. The car usually loses its shine if it’s left standing for quite some time in the sun. This is because of the reaction between the paint and the UV radiation from the sun. Living in sunny climates can wreak havoc on your car, causing oxidation and premature fading of its paint. When you think about it, it’s not much different than how too much sun exposure can and does harm our skin.

Going through the right car maintenance routine can keep your old car looking like it just rolled out of the dealership with all its shine and glory. But, how?

- Washing: Wash your car often to help keep its shine. Getting rid of dirt, mud and grime are the first step to take. When washing your car with special cleaning products, make sure you do so away from the sunlight. Acidic and basic compounds can etch into the paint causing bubbling, peeling, and cracking, so it goes without saying, your car needs to be regularly cleaned.

- Drying: Dry the car well after you’ve washed it instead of letting it air dry. When you dry it, you’re actually protecting your car’s paint from minerals left behind by water evaporation.

- Waxing: Waxing your car helps to prevent further fading of color. When you don’t wax your car, grime left on your car can damage the paint job. Waxing can also reduce the effects of the sun’s UV radiation. Depending on where you live and drive, it’s advisable to wax your car after every third or fourth wash.

You Use The Wrong Car Wash

All in the bid to save money, we use different types of a car wash, some go as far as using detergent such as Klin, Omo etc which are wrong and can damage the car coat. There are different types of car washes, but all of them use strong detergent to strip away dirt and grease. These detergents also strip away any protective wax and sealant on the car. Also, note that if the bristles on the brushes are harsh, it may not be too good on the car as well. Your best shot is to clean with a sponge or a foam.

You’re Scrubbing

Scrubbing your car to remove bugs or stuck on elements is not the best idea. The paint of your car has been just too delicate to withstand a scrub. You can purchase sprays or gloves like a mitt to gently remove bugs or other sticky substances on your car.

You Leave The Car Uncovered

With the type of sun we have in Nigeria, it will be unwise to leave your cars in the open, you can construct a car shade or better still get a car cover which costs beween 2000-4000 naira. If location is the catchphrase of real estate, then cover is the catchphrase of car paint. Parking in the shade helps, but that’s still not enough protection. Whenever logistically possible, cover your car. A breathable car cover, easy to put on and remove can be a cheap investment compared to the cost of repainting a vehicle.

“We had visited this facility twice and sealed it; we padlocked it but when we got here now, we noticed that he didn’t tamper with our padlock; rather, he created another entrance that was not there previously.

“That is why we are here again and we have sealed the place and going to prosecute him.

“We have said earlier that anyone caught operating illegally will be sanctioned and prosecuted and that is what we are going to do with this plant owner.’’

Meanwhile, the officials of the DPR met with the members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) at the mosimi depot.

The DPR officials, led by Bello-Zagi, said that the meeting was aimed at affirming the relationship existing between the department and the petroleum marketers.

She urged the petroleum marketers to always adhere to the regulations guiding the sale of petroleum products in the country.

“IPMAN is one of our major stakeholders and we appreciate and respect them a lot. The purpose of the meeting today is to remind ourselves and remind them of some of our regulations.

“They have been complying but there is no perfect institution and there are some areas that need improvement and that is what we have discussed and they have promised to cooperate with us,” she said.

Responding, the Vice Chairman of IPMAN, Fatai Soewu, assured the DPR officials that the association would continue to appeal to its members to obey lay down rules and regulations.

Soewu, however, pleaded with the Federal Government to urgently address the issue of multiple- taxation which he said was affecting businesses of IPMAN members negatively..

He further urged the government to look into ways of having a unified taxation system.

Soewu also called on the the government to urgently repair the Ikorodu/Sagamu road leading the depot and ensure availability of petroleum products at the facility.

In a bid to curb the excesses of the police especially men of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS), the team with the Lagos State State Government have released hotlines to report any erring RRS officials in course of doing his/her duty or demand for any form of bribe or harass you.

Graceans:

Please which of the Lusada?

The one in heaven or Ogun State

Can't believe somebody is reporting this kind of lie online.

Hello Madam...

We have nothing to benefit if we will lie as you claimed we did, this report if you read through well was done by one of the residents living there and this is not about sentiments. Of a true, Atan-Agbara-Lusada is quite a big place, we will find out where this road is in Atan-Lusada Road but let it be in records that we are not lying, we will never dent out image cos of few bucks, thats even if we are offered.

Once we get the right info and the right location, we will revert.

CeterisXVIII:

So why haven't the roads been renovated all this while?

I still can't believe that Igbesa to Isashi in Lagos is about 10 minutes, or Igbesa to Igando in Lagos is about 20 minutes drive, if the roads are well constructed. shocked

The govt should embark on a PPP partnership to construct these roads and put a toll gate on them, to enable the private companies recoup their money, like Fashola did with Lekki-Epe expressway toll gates! undecided

I was surprised to read that too... Maybe the companies there need to follow the approach of Dangote, Flour Mills and other companies which they used to construct the Apapa-Wharf Road, they signed a MOU for tax holiday while they construct the road using their monies, imagine wasting precious time on a 10-20mins road to Lagos.
