PoliticsJohn Togo, Goodluck's Brother, Blown Pipeline by auwal87(op): 11:57pm On Dec 20, 2010
Chevron Nigeria Limited says one of its oil pipelines was blown, two days after militants claimed an attack in Nigeria’s oil-rich southern delta.

Chevron said in a statement Monday that its Dibi-Abiteye pipeline in Delta State was hit on Friday.

The Niger Delta Liberation Force, led by a militant calling himself John Togo, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement sent Saturday.

The group demanded the withdrawal of troops from Ayokomor, the community where the military launched a Dec. 1 operation to apprehend Togo, causing civilian casualties.

Militants in the restive region have attacked pipelines, kidnapped petroleum company employees and fought government troops since 2006.

Nigeria is one of the top crude oil suppliers to the U.S.

Even before Nigeria came into being, there was Hausaland!

The area (Hausaland) was so vast and populous that conventional direct methods of ruling were quite inappropriate. Lord Lugard came up with the idea of using 'dependent rulers' to rule indirectly. Trusted rulers were allowed to rule as they saw fit. Such an approach was cheap to implement, it supported existing power structures, conservative and it legitimised colonial rule. The experiment was to be so successful that it was to be used as a model by other colonies around the Empire.

Below is the Map of Entire Hausaland.

PoliticsMurtala Started The Arewa Republic Movement by auwal87(op): 4:38pm On Nov 13, 2010
It was in in July 1966 during the Araba (secession) counter-coup, Murtala declared that his mission was to pull the North – the Arewa Republic – out of Nigeria and was in deed flying the flag of the new ‘republic’ at his Ikeja Cantonment headquarters, until the British diplomats talked sense into him to the effect that ‘you don’t run a country with groundnut pyramids’. Even at that, the naive Lt. Col. Yakubu Gowon who was foisted on the country by the British remained fixated to the idea of an Arewa Republic and had declared in his first ever national broadcast that, “there is no basis for national unity…” source (10th paragraph)

how many states currently in Nigeria would make up arewa republic ?? where would the middle belt guys stand . You know they aren't "cool" with you hausa's / fulani's the "core" northerners . How about kwara states ?? Kogi state ? Plateau state ? benue state ? . Without the middle belt , the region known for agriculture and the region that contributes over 70% of agricultural products from the "north" (even though we know they don't see themselves as northerners ) the arewa state would be worse than somalia . So if you guys really plan on doing this "arewa" state then you have a lot of work to do convincing the middle belt to join you but i doubt they would be interested in being part of the arewa state considering the injustice and marginalization they have been through under the "core" northerners

you are obviosly smart i like that im not going to insult you
with regards to all those european landlocked countries that are  prosperous let me take. switzerland, they have gr8 link with thier nieghbours and has been in existand since 1500. in this increasingly competive world do you expect a weak country like Half of nigeria cuz thats what arewa is to prosper? No big Fish like europe and america will just eat it up not give it a chance to grow. as bad as  nigeria is its done well to get where it has. Both the u.s and britain  have diliberate policies to hinder nigerias growth Its true.
anyway back to my point about being landlocked its great to aspire at the upper scale of prosperous landlocked countries but look closer to home like Niger and Mali. 2 LL countries with abundant gold resources but becuase of its LLness it is Isolated. Thats my point.
@ Dapo Bear
Sure desetification is already happening in Northern Nigeria
so i am valid. having a shoreline is one of the biggest assets any civilization can have especially in the C21th.
See, Arewa Republic is having good neighbours whom we can work together to succeed.

From Kano to a Libyan port its only 2,000 km. By building rail in partnership with Niger Republic and Libyan governments, Arewa Republic can continue to do business even without the Lagos Port. Even now, most of goods imported by people of Arewa are diverted through Cotonou, Benin Republic >>> Maradi, Niger Republic >>> Katsina, Nigeria >>> Kano, Nigeria. So why not Libya >>> Niger >>> Arewa ?

Desertification is not a Northern Nigerian Problem, it is a world problem, so don't think it is a curse to Northern Nigeria, just search Desertification Google and you will see the Alaskas in USA coming out.

In the 21st century, even without shoreline, you will survive, because we have technology to use Rails, to use Roads, and to use Air Cargos.

So, we too have great link with our neighbours, and great opportunities lies ahead after separating from Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: 5 Reasons Why Arewa Republic Will Fail by auwal87(m): 12:36pm On Nov 09, 2010
Let me start from the bottom up.

Your points are not qualified at all, you know why Arewa people are not doing anything at the moment? Because they are Lazy, do you know why they are Lazy? Because of Oil.

5- IBB and Co are all going to die soon, new fresh bloods will emerge soon, with hearts of courage to empower our people

4- Arewa unlike any other Muslim countries are far more liberal, some few bad elements emerge because of poverty and seeking name only, but Arewa will be just like Turkey in Europe, or Malaysia in Asia, or Bahrain in Middle East.

3- Almajirai are a great resource for Arewa Republic, in no time, they will disappear from the streets, 65% that is not fear, we have more civil servants than any region in Nigeria, go to the ministries in Abuja and other states of Arewa, they are all from Arewa (at least 90%). This is the reality, we have qualified doctors, qualified engineers (go to ABU Zaria and see those behind the Nuclear project, they are all from Arewa), we have Business Gurus (Arewa even though it doesn't have sea ports, most of the distributions are carried from here, I have never seen someone traveling from Arewa to Odua or Biafra to purchase imported food stuffs, but you will see lots of them coming to Arewa to purchase imported stuffs, go to Singer market in Kano, you will see what I am telling you, that markets carries transactions worth billions of naira every single day, why? Because we consume. See Arewa, only those who are ignorant about the country will tell you we only have Almajirai. Because that's what you see in the south.

2- NO! A big NO! Oil is only a curse to Nigeria, only the wicked countries look at Nigeria with like that. The good countries want Nigeria to get their facts right, abandon oil, or at least depend less on oil, develop other sectors, generate employment. You see having an Oil in Nigeria is only a curse to Arewa because it made our people lazy and depends heavily on salaries and revenues from the federal government. But by the time there is no oil, people will understand, and they will wake up to the reality. They will ask question to themselves. What about if this people abandon us, what should we tell our children and grand children, what have we done for them?

1- Yes, Landlocked, but see also in Europe::::
Andorra
Armenia
Austria
Belarus
Czech Republic
Vatican City (Holy See)
Hungary
Liechtenstein
Luxembourg
Moldova
San Marino
Serbia
Slovakia
Switzerland

They are all landlocked countries. Aren't they better than Nigeria in terms of Anything?

Boy, wake up, Arewa is not what you think it is;

Just like we are all good neighbours with Niger Republic, Benin Republic, and Cameroon (at least apart from the Bakassi issue). Arewa will be good neighbours with Yoruba and Igbo countries. We will be good friends, remembering history and laughing to ourselves. (We will know that the present system we are today is just a game but not real).

You are completely correct:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trovafloxacin

To be honest, sometimes these drug companies do some very shady things. I shouldn't have made it out to be as simple as I did. They often look to cut costs by testing these things in Africa. If you test these experimental drugs in America or the West, then you can be sued if they cause harm. And the oversight is lot larger if you do your testing here.

I apologize for simplifying a complicated issue.
Apology accepted!

TV/MoviesRe: This GEJ Sef: To Invest $200 Million In Film Industry? by auwal87(m): 9:00pm On Nov 07, 2010
Beaf:
The entertainment industry is our only wholly indegenious growth story and one of GEJ's stated goals is to diversify our economy.

As a growth area with tremendous promise, it is only right that the entertainment industry is encouraged, invested in and financed. Music and Nollywood have been great job providers, but there is still a long way to go. The US has Hollywood, why can't we build toward something similar? Hollywood generates much more than oil will ever give us (and thats not including the US music industry etc).

Not all growth will come from manufacturing, some will come from other sectors. I don't see why we should try to shoot it down as not worthy of recieving govt help.

The ASUU strike is something that will be dealt with by negotiation and laws, same as NLC; these are things that need time, patience and understanding, not the flick of a pen. In the meantime, the country needs to invest in areas outside oil, which is proving not to be enough to meet ASUU, NLC and other costs.

What are you really asking for?
NO! Some of ASUU demands are better universities facilities for good education, NLC is working hard to depend the interest of all Nigerian workers, sometime to even go beyond that (by preventing government to increase fuel prices).

Areas outside oil for government to intervene is Industries, Agriculture, Technology (lets look at reality not mere entertainment). Abeg, how many people will benefit from the entertainment industry, how many people are in the entertainment industry (less than 1 million combined together). Farmers in Nigeria are up to 70% of the population. Hmm, I wonder ooo,

Anyway, AREWA is getting OFF soon!, Let you have the WORLD'S BEST R&B, ROCK, RAPPER, ACTOR, ACTRESS, what ever!

It is only arrogance and anger and a bit of racism that will make one feel that the north will completely fall apart without southerners. And don't get me wrong, I've been guilty of this arrogance myself, so I'm pointing fingers also at myself.

I think secession would do you guys good, you'd wake up out of your deep slumber and actually start building a nation. Or at least, this is my belief.

But as I said, the main thing is that you guys have to get rid of these backward customs you have. For example, international agencies tried to eradicate polio in Africa, your leaders banned them from giving you guys vaccination to prevent the disease. Now polio is resurgent in northern nigeria.

You can have a good Muslim society. But you need to copy off of countries like Turkey, not ones like Sudan or Yemen. Turkey had this badass leader named Kemal Ataturk, who forced his people to reject backwards ways and accept modern life. With similar sorts of modern leadership and reform, you could do well.

If you do not find your Ataturk, and stick with your current backwards ways and reject Western education and knowledge, then you'll become like the Niger Republic.
To the bold part.

In 1996, an American Coy (Pfizer) conducted tests (trovafloxacin) on 100 children (ALL IN AREWA) five of whom died, with many others suffering life-altering injuries. Again they conducted another tests (ceftriaxone) on another 100 children (ALL IN AREWA) six of whom died, with many others suffering till now.

Since then, people of AREWA were afraid of giving out their children for any test or vaccine that comes from the West, (this is what will happen even if its another country, not Nigeria).

So, in early 2004, Shekarau announced the suspension of the vaccine "UNTIL INVESTIGATIONS ARE MADE" Physicians from all over NIGERIA and Outside NIGERIA conducted tests on samples randomly taken. The final result was that the tested Vaccines were okay. So the Governor ordered the vaccination to continue, and announce that the Vaccine is okay, the Emir himself vaccinated so many children in one Polio day, to show their acceptance. Since then people are accepting the vaccines, and so far, no problem is encountered.

FYI.

The North can be a solid country if you guys work hard to build it up. He is right, you can be prosperous without oil. But you'll need to change your culture entirely, value education and school, stop oppressing your women and forcing them to get married early.

But all of this will require HARD work. It isn't as easy as just stealing money from the south that doesn't belong to you.

In Nigeria, 70% live on less than $1 a day in a country that has earned over $340 billion in oil revenues since the 1970s.

Why is this happening?
How is it possible to be so rich, yet so poor?
Is this phenomenon, known as the “oil curse,” or in social science parlance, the “resource curse” truly to blame?
Does oil really impede democracy and economic growth?

In short, oil exports as a revenue source for development don’t seem to work. Most countries that have come on-line in the last twenty years are exhibiting increased poverty, not less, slower growth, not more, weaker institutions, and regulatory frameworks, not stronger.
