PoliticsPdp Favours North Than South by auwal87(op): 4:01pm On May 02, 2011
Late Alhaji Muhammed Abubakar Rimi, Second Republic Governor of Kano State and convener of the Peoples Democratic Party, traces the idea of the formation of the Party to the quest to unite civil society against military rule. According to him, “the politics of Nigeria before now was built on ethnicity, regionalism, sectionalism and things like that. It gave us a lot of problems over the years. So we decided that we are going to form a party that is so big and so popular that everybody will join”.

The PDP favors free-market policies which support economic liberalism, and limited government regulation. (Favours North hence having people like Dangote)

The PDP strives to maintain the status quo on oil revenue distribution. Though the PDP government setup the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to address the needs of the oil-producing Niger Delta states, it has rebuffed repeated efforts to revert back to the 50% to 50% federal-to-state government revenue allocation agreement established in 1966 during the First Republic. (With all the billions running Northwards, its PDP)

The PDP is against same sex relations, and favors social conservatism on moral and religious grounds. In 2007, the PDP-dominated National Assembly sponsored a bill to outlaw homosexual relations, making it punishable by law for up to five years in prison. (Islamic)

The party is a moderate advocate of state-autonomy and religious freedom for the Nigerian provinces. In the year 2000 the introduction of Islamic law in some states in Northern Nigeria triggered sectarian violence in Kaduna and Abia states. The PDP-led federal government refused to bow to pressure from the southern, predominantly Christian states to repeal the law, and instead opted for a compromise where Islamic law would only apply to Muslims.

Handling bin Laden's body
Early Monday, an official told NBC News that bin Laden's body had already been buried at sea — eliminating the possibility of a burial shrine.
Islamic tradition calls for a body to be buried within 24 hours, but finding a country willing to accept the remains of the world's most wanted terrorist would have been difficult, a senior administration official said.

In 1999, they voted for PDP and dumped ANPP
In 2003, they voted for ANPP and dumped PDP (With influence of Buhari)
In 2007, they voted for ANPP and dumped PDP (With influence of Buhari)
In 2011, they voted for PDP and dumped ANPP

The wave of celebrations was dynamic, men painted their lips red, wearing cola-nut on their neck, bumper-to-bumper runs, balloons, songs, the whole of Kano was in a mood like never seen before, it is PDP that won.

Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was governor of Kano from 1999 to 2003, he lost second term bid in 2003, the party (PDP) also lost in 2007, given ANPP 8 years of uninterrupted chances to win the hearts of Kano people. So many events have lead to the failure of ANPP this time, including their candidate's being very unpopular among both the elites and the masses. Secondly, most of Shekarau's aides were interested in the bid but were denied their rights to contest which lead to many of them decamping to other parties especially PDP and CPC. Thirdly, Buhari's failure to win the presidency lead to frustration of some CPC members who burnt their voters cards, hence cannot come out to vote this time. Finally, Appeal Court's sudden judgement between the CPC candidates Abacha and Jafaru, where the court ruled out Jafaru Isa, a colonel, once a governor in Kaduna, as the rightful flag bearer of the CPC in Kano. Those are some of the events that lead to PDP winning in Kano.

All said, Kwankwaso have so many supporters in Kano, especially the teeming youths, and some business men, who sees him as a philanthropist in those areas.

Kwankwaso's main campaign theme was education, power, and water, he promised to bring back the feeding of primary school students, build and additional campus for the state's polytechnic, and additional campus for the state's university, he promised to build underpasses, flyovers, and so many other structures within the city of Kano. Kwankwaso will also implement an economic team comprising of 6 nationalities, each from Europe, Asia, North America, Africa, Middle East, and Australia.

After all, Kano is not a dumping ground of political bandits, same person was stoned during his first tenure in 2003, today he is the Champion for All!!!

The People of Kano are Unpredictable!

Sky Blue:
No need to elaborate, I got your postulation perfectly fine the first time, and it remains as undemocratic and poorly thought out as when you first conceived it. What you are basically asking is for the country to be thrown into perpetual coalitions. Each party has its manifesto and although Nigerian politics at present seems to be less about party and more about people, it does not take away from the fact that different aspirants might see different way of doing things. What might attract people to a particular aspirant is their idealogy or way of doing things (even if this might not have been the case of recent). What your proposal could create would be indecisive coalitions that foot drag on issues due to clash of ideas, when a more decisive and clear path would probably be more welcome by the people. Stop using sports analogy because they do not apply here, this is governing a country, not doing pole vault in the olympics. I repeat, if the runner up has twenty percent of the votes then on what mandate would he stand as prime minister? twenty percent? The idea is undemocratic, idealogically stunted, and continues to exploit the divide that exists in the country, not heal it. It belongs to the litany of other such ideas like federal character and zoning that continue to sacrifice competency and good governance on the alter of "carrying everybody along". I don't want my president to "carry everybody along", I just want him to get to work.
You will understand my point well when one day, the one you like to be President isn't elected, and termed a loser of the election, even though he got overwhelming number of votes. If ever it will happen.

The President's speech today is erotically mad, no one will go out to vote with this utterances. For God's sake, what's the reason for comparing Civil war with what is happening? I am lost in this.

@GenBuhari

I believe if it is Buhari that won the election, and the election was rigged, no one can convince you that the election was rigged, no matter how real the evidence is. It is the same with GEJ's supporters now. They will never believe there was rigging, no matter what, because that's what they support. It is the same!

I just suggest Buhari become Prime Minister and Head of Government while GEJ remain President, Commander in Chief, and Head of State.
PoliticsRe: A Prime Minister For Nigeria by auwal87(op): 1:02pm On Apr 20, 2011
Most respondents except some few doesn't understand my point, they think it is because Buhari lost the election.

Runner ups doesn't lose an election, but just doesn't get the required number of votes to win an election, you can't compare the number of supporters of Buhari with that of Goodluck in the North, and that of Goodluck with Buhari in the South. Someday, it will be a southerner that will become the runner-up, and then he will take up the right position of the Prime Minister. Even in sports, the runner-up take the silver while the winner take the Gold, so better understand that runner-up is not equal to a loser.

Prime Ministerial Positions will serve as an avenue to provide peace of mind and a sense of belonging between the North and the South, all sides will feel they are rightly positioned to govern the nation. No side will feel disfigured. If this will continue then very soon the country will be divided, I bet it won't be peaceful, because the North must get rid of all non-Muslims in the region, while the East must get rid of all Muslims in the region, it will lead to massacre, bloodshed, and only God knows when it will end.

As simple as A,B,C

I am quite weary about increasing the size of an already overbloated and expensive government structure. Apart from that, why most the loser of an election be automatically given the post of Prime Minister? How is that democratic and what mandate is there? Countries that have a president and primeminister usually have the president picking the prime minister by the way. This your idea seems a knee jerk response to the Nigerian situation as opposed to a more elaborately thought out plan, and unfortunately continues to carry that WAZOBIA like mentality that has bred animosity in the country and kept competency as a factor at the backburner. Would you be ok if the president and prime minister come from one place? Just curious.
Having 10 million voters isn't just a picking game, it is a system of sub-doing what has been undone. It will be very difficult to have both the Winner and Runner-up from one place, in most of the elections, it is between one powerful politician from the south and one powerful politician from the north, it has been like this for the past decades, and it will always remain so.
PoliticsA Prime Minister For Nigeria by auwal87(op): 9:20pm On Apr 19, 2011
I am expressing what I think will suit the Democratic Setting of Nigeria as it is. Any runner-up in an election will automatically become the Prime Minister and the head of the Government, while the winner become the President, Commander in Chief, and Head of State. Nigeria is such a diverse country, and each region should be involved in governing the country. An amendment of the country's constitution is necessary to achieve this. This is the best and easiest solution to the diversification and complications of this country's young democracy, in order to empower it, we have to get everyone involved. We learn from mistakes and move forward, I said this not because of Buhari or Ribadu or Shekarau, I said this because it is a step-forward in our democracy.

PoliticsRe: Kano Is On Fire by auwal87(op): 8:20pm On Apr 19, 2011
What I always stood for is pure democracy for all the citizens of Nigeria. I wish to express my satisfaction with the way 2011 elections were conducted, and I hope next election will be far more credible. With reports of protests in some parts of the country, I wishes to call all those who are not satisfied with the results to appeal in the courts for justice. Nonetheless, I have a more suitable system of government for the country, which looks into consideration but the cultural, religious, and other differences that exists in this country.

If you have any idea of how we can empower our democracy and make it suitable to our culture, and religion, please reveal it, share it, and work towards it. We have to work hard towards the development of our country's democracy. We don't have to wait for the US or UK to come and intervene in our democratic setting, we have to define our own democracy, we don't need to copy from another country, we have to make our democracy suitable to all the citizens of this country.

So what does that mean?
It means Jonathan is the new president of Nigeria. It means PDP will continue to lead the country for some 4 years to come. It means Power to the People will continue to suck-away Power to the Nation (They will remain in darkness). As I am preparing to permanently leave the country. It means Nigeria will have the most clue-less, useless, president for the next 4 years. It means Nigeria will commit 40% of its budget to the entertainment industry in the next 4 years to come.

It means a lot!
