it happens though

Muscles tense, he grunts. Tears fill his eyes. Making no sound, he starts over. Taking deep breaths in and out, he pushes again bringing more tears to his eyes.
A knock on the door. “Oh gosh”, he swears. He knocked back on the door and whoever had knocked departed.
Sweating profusely, his muscles tense again. This time he pushes much harder. “Thunk” and a huge sigh of relief. He gets up and looks into the bowl. “Dang, I gotta eat my veggies” He pulls the handle down and watches in horror as the bowl filled over and spilled its contents.

Segun, she sighed. She had been expecting him. “Let him in” she said. “Yes, Mrs President” said the orderly.

He walks in and she gestures him to sit.
Once alone, “Drinks?” she asks. “Sure, why not”, he answers.

She pours him a drink. A moment later,

“I know why you are here and that wine was your last”

“But, my lawyer…, ”, he stutters already turning blue in the face. “I took care of him too” she answers.

“This stuff works fast” she smiled.

Mutumba peeked through the shrubbery as the Wilkins headed straight for the limousine. “I swear I saw a black man” insisted Mrs Wilkins. “And that’s why we are leaving” Mr Wilkins answered.

Mutumba’s voyage had lasted three weeks. Once the ship docked, he hid inside a transport crate and got out of the warehouse after dark quite easily.

Three hours later, he was in the high brow Luchester region which boasted a hundred per cent white population. This was the third time he had outrun the men with the loud sounds and white lights.
He smiled to himself “maa ye”.

Francis shivered in the dark silence and checked his watch for time. He had prepared well, he thought, but not for cold like this. He could no longer hold his bottle of gin as it hurt to move at all. He smiled dreaming of the endless possibilities once he got there safely. Soon he was feeling warm all over and then he fell into an endless slumber.

At the Heathrow airport, Kurt opened the wheel hub to perform routine maintenance. A long wrapped bundle fell out. He walked gingerly towards it and pulled away the wraps.

“Holy smokes” He screamed

“Hmmmnn, Oh my God” she moans sinking her teeth once again into the warm, toasty piece. “ This is too good”. Tokoni watched from the corner of her eye thinking, “she’s going to choke on those one of these days”. Temisa drinks milk from a glass. “How’s that weight loss thing going?” she asks in between mouthfuls. Tokoni feigned a smile and said, “It’s going great, I’m on the Wister program now”. Inwardly she fumed. At 28, she measured 6 feet tall and weighed 300 pounds. Temisan, her twin sister, was 6 feet tall too but a paltry 165 pounds.

Feels like forever but this I have to let you know.

Then I had that dream that felt so real. You were there in a white garment and you turned away to leave, waving at me. I just sat there. Me? I just sat there and looked at you walk away. I never told anyone about his. How could I watch you walk away? I woke up and thought hard and long about it. Still I had no understanding.

How many nights I prayed; candles, instructions, prayers and prayers again that this feeling end? It is supposed to be fun not wrenching and trepidating. And I knew it so I prayed.

Even your mother could not understand it and she asked me that question that still plagues me today. I felt my prayers were not answered. Or maybe they were wrong to say in the first place.

Remember how I would pretend to get mad at you and walk away only to turn back in a heartbeat? Sure you do. You always knew I would be back and I did not mind doing just that.
Then came that one day, we were together again. It dawned on me then that I was trying to fill a basket with liquid. Then I walked away and you thought that I was coming back. You wanted to see me off, I declined. I know you thought I would be back and I am sure that you waited. But I never looked back, not even once.

I walked straight, shoulders back, head held up high and straight to the beautician's. After this, I took a ride straight to the bus park, I did not look out the window to see if I'd catch a glimpse of you. I never looked back since then.

I stopped loving you and still don't know why.
