It ain't a ridiculous question,

This is my own opinion,

You mentioned two different job experiences (HR & Fishery), you can go for a PG.Cert program in a Program related to any of those two Job Experience, but Its more advisable you go for a PG.Cert program in the present Job you are doing

I just noticed that only my additional documents are being currently reviewed as seen on my portal. Is it possible for them to be reviewing NSE documents without the main eligibility review?

We can only just chill and count 20days after the "we are reviewing your additional document". Because it seems to me that, that is automated.
Everyone I have seen, get that update the second day after they submitted the NSE document, so it is probably automated. I could be wrong though.

It will end in praise! I didn't even you are coming to usask.

Uzomachukwu:

That might actually be the issue with my application. What is sad is that I actually checked with USask's International Students' Centre on two different occasions, and the advisors I Zoomed with both mentioned that with my funding, it wasn't necessary showing any other POF.

If only I had found Nairaland then!

Hi, this situation is quite similar to my fiancée's. And the decision came back as "refuse". We ordered gcms, showed it to an international student advisor in her prospective school. The woman said even with all these fundings, she should still provide proof of funds from Nigeria (self or sponsored). That was strange to me because I only applied with the fundings I got when I applied for mine 3years ago (I am in a PhD program too).
I dont know how your application was done, I just felt I should inform you this. Perhaps you could add a bank statement of yours to your application. Interestingly, this was how her own was super long too, she didnt apply in Nigeria though. All the best.

Uzomachukwu:

This is the most interesting, most exhaustive and (at least to for me) most useful landing gist I have read in this forum.

Thank you so much, Akanni, for making out the time to narrate your experience. You have given us so much important information in one post alone. I've read your post three times already and as well
taken screenshots of it. The luggage tips and other airport wahala you've so clearly detailed for us here are really going to come in handy when I eventually start my own journey.
----
Aah, IRCC! I never believed I could be waiting for BVL and final decision up till this time. Damn! It's 2021 and I'm still refreshing my GCKey account, searching for new update. This is perplexing, very.

No choice now than to order GCMS notes.

As a PhD student who has a 4.17 in undergrad (2015), a 5.0 in MA (Dec. 2019), several published academic papers and a Dean's fellowship (full funding: tuition waiver, living expenses of 22k CAD and option of Graduate Assistantship for extra cash not counted towards my funding package), I had thought that getting a study permit would be easy and fast. But, yeah, it's 6 months and 15 days now, and old boy is still anxiously refreshing his GCkey account. How so sad!

At this point, I'm even beginning to get mad at IRCC. But then, it's their country, and as they'll quickly remind you, study permit/visa is a privilege not a right. Still, it's all so sad!

Hello people, please kindly help provide clarity. I am doing this SP application for my fiancee but apparently
process is completely diff from 2018 when I did mine. I am currently in Canada.
Shes coming for PhD, her application was denied in Sept. We applied again. And today we got this email that she should provide
1. Proof of Financial Support: Proof of Financial Support A mybankStatement certificate
showing sufficient funds for your studies for at least 6 months and 12 months of banking history. This
certificate can be obtained at https://www.visa-mybankstatement.com/ This must be received at this office
by: 2021/01/01
2. Proof of IELTS test results:
Meanwhile she recieved funding of 27k from AAFC for her studies and I had thought this should suffice, apparently it doesnt.
She doesnt have a job as she just finished MSc abroad and returned to Nigeria a few months ago.
Sorry for the too much story but my question is; can she use a sponsor now (uncle etc..) since she didnt include this in the original application, sufficientfunds for 6months is that something like 6kcad enough? Also in this application we added a financial statement from CIBC bank where she deposited 3.5kcad. And does this new development suggest something positive about the application?
Please advise.
Thank you very much.

1st applied for SP in May, passed medicals in August but denied in Sept.
Due to reason for travel and finance. Worked on that and applied again Oct. 21st, Nov 23 passed medicals (same medical as before though)
Its been a week after that time and no further response. Is this likely a bad omen? Pls advise.

Hello ayoadefantastic

Is the funding available for every year of the PhD?

You’ll need to get someone in her field to assist with a solid SOP. She needs to emphasize clearly how this PhD will be of benefit to her career in Nigeria.

Has she started building her own account? Even with funding, it’s advisable to show something in your account too.

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by ayoadefantastic: 2:17am On Oct 27, 2020
Hello,

Pls kindly assist on how to address these concerns in a new application.

Profile:
BSc Agriculture, MSc, Botany, accepted for PhD Plant Science U of Alberta
Finished MSc in June 2020.
1st application May 2020, denied Sept. 2020. Applied while studying in China. Now in Nigeria and applying from there.
29k graduate assistance from Agri Food Canada
How best can the following concerns be addressed.
Thanks a lot.

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by ayoadefantastic: 3:41pm On Sep 26, 2020
3yrs working experience b4 MSc, finished msc in June 2020.
MSc average (89)
Funding; Research position (biotechnology)with AAFC. There was a research position open in the lab, she applied together with other applicants. She was picked. She proposed the project, genome editing in wheat. An area she did her msc research, she has a publication on this too. All these sounds competive and scholarly to me.
Visit visa rejection was summer 2019.
vibrant99:
While the rejection maybe Generic, which i don't buy entirely until the GCMNOTES arrives, it is 90% going to be far from Financial assets!

Lets look at this areas...

1. what is her Masters Percentage ?

2. You said she got funding from the institution, Is it Merited ? Again FUNDINGS can come from various bodies, was this funding from the institution for Merit? is it Financial assisted Funding(this rather don't have to do with your Educational quality), is it a Private Funding(i.e From Boyfriend ).

3. What is the study gap?

4. What Phd is it? An Opening or a Pure Application to Study?

5. She is Unmarried i guess, How old is she (This may not be significant, but It may clash with something you said in your application)

6. When was the Rejection for the Visit Visa? Was it simultaneously? it may be a Red Flag if spontaneous.

Lets have answers to this few , ... It will help even without a Gcmnotes readily available.

Purpose of visit and Finance.

Anon123:

Pls what was the reason given to why she was rejected in respect to the study permit and not the visiting visa .
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by ayoadefantastic: 8:07pm On Sep 25, 2020
Spot on. Thank you very much.
Phatkayconcept:

If a funded PhD applicant can be rejected, plus the application was packaged by someone who has passed through the process himself, then, we should know that this SP visa is now requiring thorough efforts from all applicants.

While the gcms note is important to proffer custom guidance, I would suggest the following actions, before its arrival.

Let the applicant demonstrate financial strength to her best, probably add her own soa, parent soa, and in addition, let her show economic ties back home. A landed property in her name or the ones she is heir to.

If the applicant is unemployed, it would be imperative for her to find volunteer position and letter to back her case. Don't leave anything undone. Also, she should consider home ties, and to do this, her future goals, siblings, parent soa and economic strength will suffice.

Her sop and loe will need to tackle the vos concerns. Finally, the applicant should demonstrate how this PhD will be important to her, maybe make some references to her msc thesis and other publications (if any) to further demonstrate her readiness and excitement for this PhD program, because I am wondering why purpose of visit was mentioned on the refusal.

Let her rose on her feet to make her second application count.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by ayoadefantastic: 4:50pm On Sep 25, 2020
Just a rant!

I really think its unfair that you have determined an applicant ineligible since July 6th and just communicating that about 3months later.
Ridiculous!

Tuition is like 8k+ per annum.
Research assistance from AAFC (29k per annum) technically that covers tuition and living exenses.

Chocs:
It has worked for some people. But I honestly don’t know if there’s a fixed rule. Maybe gurus in the house would have an idea. But 2 years ago is a long time, and many things have changed. Some people put in almost no effort and got visas 2-3 years ago. But we can see that it’s getting difficult as the days go by.

How much is her tuition? And what type of scholarship is it?

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by ayoadefantastic: 4:44pm On Sep 25, 2020
Thanks a lot.

Chocs:
I think it is always advisable to include funds even if one has funding/scholarship.

Her SOP should also be worked on. Maybe a guru in the house can help her review it or get a paid professional.

But most importantly please order her GCMS notes right away as it can take up to 35 days to arrive. Google gcms notes and you’ll find how to order it, it costs $12. With this, you’ll be able to see the visa officers comment and work on it before reapplying to prevent another rejection. All the best.

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by ayoadefantastic: 4:38pm On Sep 25, 2020
Pls what are the best proof of fund one can use. I only used the scholarship I got for mine 2yrs ago. Thought that would suffice but obviously it's not in her case.

Chocs:
I’m sorry to hear about the refusal. Please let her order her GCMS notes to see a more specific reason.

What was her msc in? Is it related to the PhD she applied for? Was her statement of purpose well written?

What proof of funds did she submit?

Hopefully gurus in the house can throw more light into this. @frankrobbn1
