CoCoLav: Can't the query be avoided? Didn't you complete the task? And why do you feel you will get a query? The task is supposed to be completed in about 2 weeks time, but as at now, i have no idea of how to even go about the task. I won't get a query but my record might be "soiled". Agreements were made from the top and passed down to me so i'm kind of trapped. Hope you get my drift? |
Nairaland General › Re: Happy Birthday Cocolav by AZeD1(op): 9:29pm On Jan 26, 2015 |
CoCoLav: It was fine and fast...just the way I like it.
So I guess you lazied around the entire day Yeah except for a meeting about my next task, a task in which the chances of me getting a query is like 90% |

CoCoLav: Yeah, you do all the sciences and the Arts so the school counselors can figure out your strong points and help you make a decision. Ok. My school just used Maths and integrated science. |

CoCoLav: Do you really want to know? hmmnmn!
In JSS2 I wanted to be a pilot..
then I had 07/70 in physics in Jss3, failed chemistry, passed biology
then failed mathematics too.
So I sort of knew my school will never let me go into the science class. I needed to pick an area of interest because my school had given us forms to submit and the deadline was near. I borrowed a JAMB brochure from my sister and checked alphabetically to see what courses I could study. Whenever I see Maths, Physics or Chemistry as a requirement I just skip
Then I got to L and saw Law. It was like I had discovered a goldmine so I decided...Law it is. Probably if M had come before L I would have taken Mass communication.
The requirements were quite easy....I was on top of my game in all the subjects it required...CRS, English, Literature and Government. That was how I started my journey with Law and 9 years down the line do I regret it?
I don't know. I always start what I finish so I cant say if its because of my passion for it or my never give up nature that has allowed me to stay this long.
I can say I am enjoying it though as I don't have to struggle to do most of the things it requires as my strengths are put to good use. Nice story.. You did physics in Jss 3? wow My first dream was accounting but i thank God i never did, i'd have been so miserable. |

But by next year I would have found my niche That's cool, happy for you. How did you get into the law profession? What sparked your interest? |

I have learnt to separate emotions from making money
so you are wrong. That's nice. So are you a criminal lawyer? |
Nairaland General › Re: Happy Birthday Cocolav by AZeD1(op): 12:56pm On Jan 26, 2015 |
CoCoLav: Take a wild guess... I'd say criminal law or family law but then i don't think you'll have the composure to defend someone who defrauds a company so i'll go with family law. |

CoCoLav: I could counter this by telling you I stay late at work too just so I can beat the traffic and I don't have a car. By the time I am done, the traffic would have cleared. I was in a bus this morning and I was stuck in traffic. I got down and started to walk. Those with cars couldn't leave their cars behind could they? I got to manage my time as well. So you see? it could go both ways. Besides many companies provide staff buses these days.
You cant tell me that they would ignore those who have brains and have a higher chance of getting the jobs done for those with cars. The cars could just be a mere coincidence.
That living more isn't buying cars either. Living more means spending time with your loved ones and those that matter. You dont hear 'I wished I had bought that Buggati Veyron when I had the chance'. You are missing my point, My point is buying a land is not necessarily a better investment than a car as people's situation are different. Until you know a person's situation, you are not really in a position to advice. Recently, there was a thread in which the OP asked which bank he could be putting a fixed amount into so he could buy a car and then some started advising him to buy a land instead because a car was a liability bla bla bla, The OP later explained that he was a doctor and he wasn't comfortable entering public transport at 2am when he is called for an emergency. Would you tell that person that a land is a better investment than a car? *** On a side note, how are you, read your diary(as usual) and want to know how you are feeling*** |

CoCoLav: I think what he is trying to say is that it improves efficiency due to the fact that you get to meet more targets when you are mobile and possibly your job satisfaction improves when you are comfortable.
Its the difficulty he is talking about.
I still think a car isn't a necessity and I always discourage my friends from taking that step. A car is not an investment unless its one of those antiques that are sold at higher prices as the years go by. A car can be an investment.. Don't mix economics theory with practice. Examples 1)In my office, the dudes with car close later than those without cars, while we spend 2+ hours plus in traffic, they stay back to finish their work or learn something new. The best investment you can ever make is time management and people with cars have the luxury or leaving the office anytime they want(anytime after 5pm). They can plan their time/movement. 2)When i was doing my Msc, the people with cars were always considered first for some kind of jobs. Also, ask anyone who has ever lived in Texas/California/Australia this kind of question and see their response. 3)You can't really put a price on comfort and nobody on his death bed says i wish i had more houses, land, cars e.t.c but you hear more of i wished i had lived more and trust me that living more isn't buying "Assets". |

Raymie: @OP, do yhu plan on developing the land in the near future either via business/residence? If yhu'intend buying land like all of us hoping to sell it at a much higher profit, welcome to the club of overpriced real estate and unwilling buyers. However if the purpose of yhur car is to oppress yhur neighbours and yhur exes, then yhur priorities need re examining. They are both assets and liabilities. The only difference is that one is fixed and the other not. BTW, so we know, the land location here is most likely not one in Lekki/VI or Gwarimpa/Maitama. Prolly in one obscure location that requires at least 3 motorbike trips buh still manages to sell above 1m with the perpetual hope that it will increase in value sooner than later You just hit the nail on the head. |

CoCoLav: Well...never gone for those type of shows so I don't know what time they end but I get the kind of shows you are talking of...those 'till mama calls' shows. Yeah. Under normal circumstances, buying a land is the best thing to do but when is everything ever normal. We have a tenant who hasn't paid rent for 3 years and I know all the problems associated with land in Lagos. |

CoCoLav: What are you selling and marketing in the night?
I only know of one profession whose business thrives more at night. Is that what you mean?
Yeah, I understand where you are coming from. Sales and marketing could be quite stressful and you need to be mobile to ease the stress but at the end of the day its all part of the hustle and struggle. Having an alternative source of income (in this case the land maybe after letting it out) is better than a car that sucks from the same salary its getting you. You buy fuel, pay for repair, buy parts....etc Seriously at the bold part? Every time you see a company sponsored show, there are sales people on duty. Now how many shows end before 10pm? |
Family › Re: A Car OR A Piece Of Land: Which Would You Buy First, And Why? by AZeD1(m): 7:18pm On Jan 25, 2015 |
CoCoLav:
What kind of deals occur at night? Politics....yes but business....
OP if I were in your shoes...a land it is ooo except its not my money. Get a land, you will be sure of appreciation in value in the next few years. You could build a set of 'face me I face you' and recoup your expenses from rent. Sales and marketing. To all those who say land first, try getting a job in sales first then see which you'll do first. The land is an "asset" and car is a "liability" is not as straight forward as people are making it out to be. |
Family › Re: A Car OR A Piece Of Land: Which Would You Buy First, And Why? by AZeD1(m): 10:53pm On Jan 24, 2015 |
tolutweety: @bolded: No matter how good the price is Or how best the deal is in getting the car, Will you be able to sell it at a higher cost or the same amount next year after usage ?? I DOUBT ! The only benefit you get is the satisfaction and comfort .That doesn't necessarily make it an asset ,BY MY DEFINITION.
@coloured : Quite true ! There are ways around it tho' and there other things the OP could do, should he decide not to go for a land, that will yield good returns. I meant the best business deals happen at night so the car might be a necessity. |
Family › Re: A Car OR A Piece Of Land: Which Would You Buy First, And Why? by AZeD1(m): 9:16pm On Jan 24, 2015 |
MarvellousGod: As a starter, I will go for some plots of land without thinking twice.. Car is a liability. .Car depreciates but land mostly appreciates...
I can only get a car if I have made enough investments and have a regular stream of income.... Car is not necessarily a liability, the best deals (politics and business) usually occur at night.... Also if you've dealt with "omo onile" in Lagos, then you'll know sometimes its not worth the stress of getting a land when you are not ready to build. OP, Analyse your financial situation and immediate needs and make a decision. |
