ChimaAdeoye: Useless OBJ concubines. So what happened to the $16 billion dollars meant for Independent power plants that suddenly disappeared? How did OBJ suddenly get almost N2 billion naira to build a library and even more funds to float his own private university? How did OBJ suddenly find billions of naira to transform Otta farms which was completely decrepit and bankrupt before he became President of Nigeria?
Yeye dey smell The so called NIPP stations that GEJ is commissioning were paid for by Obansanjo. That was paid from the $16 million. You can ask him for the rest. |

Mr OP, I beg to disagree, 4 years is not too much and it isn't a waste of time.
The Nigerian standard may be poor, but it has nothing to do with the curriculum. In science and engineering, the foundation has not really changed much in the last 70+ years. The laws of physics, Chemistry, and maths have changed so what are you changing the curriculum to?
2) You complained about irrelevant courses but I tell you, there's no profession in isolation. Because you never have to use some courses didn't mean it isn't necessary. Also there's the small matter that at undergraduate level, most people don't know what they're going to do with their lives, that's why the undergraduate degree is more breath oriented.
I was once like you wondering why I had to go to school when I should have just going straight to NIIT but now, I wish I had studied computer science.
PS: if there's any computer science undergraduate reading this, take your courses seriously ( algorithms and data structure, compiler construction, operating systems, discrete maths). They may look boring and uninspiring now but if you ever get into practising, you'd be glad. |

Bola4boy: Pure waste of time. I studied engineering. 5yrs after school I never use calculus to solve any real life problem. One of my prof doesn't know where an alternator can be found in his vehicle. Sooo bad. If you've not used calculus to solve any problem, the problem is with you not the educational system. As an engineering student/graduate, if you don't know the importance of calculus then you should burn your certificate. Below is an excerpt from a site about calculus. After reading, take a deep breathe and see if calculus is really important. Calculus is the language of engineers, scientists, and economists. The work of these professionals has a huge impact on our daily life - from your microwaves, cell phones, TV, and car to medicine, economy, and national defense. Credit card companies use calculus to set the minimum payments due on credit card statements at the exact time the statement is processed by considering multiple variables such as changing interest rates and a fluctuating available balance. Biologists use differential calculus to determine the exact rate of growth in a bacterial culture when different variables such as temperature and food source are changed. This research can help increase the rate of growth of necessary bacteria, or decrease the rate of growth for harmful and potentially threatening bacteria. An electrical engineer uses integration to determine the exact length of power cable needed to connect two substations that are miles apart. Because the cable is hung from poles, it is constantly curving. Calculus allows a precise figure to be determined. |

This is a brilliant idea. We need serious cash for infrastructure and we need the cash now.
For those talking about mismanagement, you should know that we don't have to sell for cash. - Want a high speed rail from Abuja to Lagos, sell a X% equity to the construction firm. - Want to increase power generation by building more power stations, do the same thing.
Look at it like hire purchasing infrastructure with our God given natural resources. Another point to note is that we can always transfer for a period of time e.g Julius Berger says it costs X amount to build y infrastructure, and we say ok take 10% in our JV stake here, in about 6 years, you should have gotten your money with profit then you transfer it back to us.
I think this idea is what looking at. |

OAM4J: You are not getting it.
The idea is to have many of such small dedicated power plants across the nation from private investments to power important areas/sectors of the economy. It is easier to have 10,000 private investors producing 10 -50MW to power special areas than wait till we are able to build 20,000MW from few places. A 10 - 50MW plant can be built within 1 - 2 years compare to building 200 - 1000MW plants which might take many more years. Also it is easier for private investors to raise money to build 10 -50MW plants compare to sourcing fund to build 200 - 1000MW plants.
That is the idea Fashola is selling.
It is not cheap and easy to provide electricity but breaking down a big problem efficiently into many small problems to be handled by many hands is a good idea. Also, having smaller power plants limits exposure to failure. Example if 30 houses all use one transformer, when the transformer goes bad, all 30 houses are in darkness but if you put 6 smaller ones, when one goes bad, only 5 houses in darkness. |

It doesn't matter if you win 25% in all the states, if you don't win the "majority" nothing for you. |

Why should we keep paying the Army, the Navy, the Airforce, Civil Defence, SSS, etc when we still have to contract out the security of pipelines to militants?!
Why should we be funding a militant group when we are still fighting another one without much success?!
When you give money to such groups they most likely buy arms with more than half of the money, what now happens in future when Jonathan leaves office and the next guy doesn't really buy the idea?! (this is exactly how Boko Haram started)
Why can't the Opc be reformed and drafted into the military IF we MUST use them?!
No sensible and we'll meaning leader will endorse militancy because people and things always change, and it becomes more difficult to suppress them after they have stockpiled arms. Nigerians should for once think beyond giving Jonathan second term and getting Buhari into office, these 2 guys will soon leave the scene but whatever decisions that are made now would haunt us collectively. I couldn't have said it better. |

hush15: Why won't any government deal with them sould be the question!
With all these vandalism happening here and there, I would eply ther services. I cant deploy military to that effect neither can I use the police, ther job is in the cities ad for more civil roles. The NSCDCs and other para militaries are the one but then, these guy on their own canot do it. They filled with old men who lack tactical skills to combat pipe vandalism that is costing the nation thrllions of naira. So why not complimet them with a more vibrant militia group to prtect the very course they destroy when they not engaged.
In simple english, its called reverse pshycology by maing postive use of something that could be used negatively if not properly harnessed. So there is nothing wrong in GEJ's move. Moreso its called employment. Another job creation opportunity and what is wrong in that.
When we encourae these people to protect our pipelines and gas pipes, we have less vandalism, more gas to generate electricity and more crude to export. More gas to power turbine means more electricity. More electricity means stable power supply.
More crude means more oil barrels produce per day. Amidst the fallen oil prices, we can't afford wasting oil barrels. More barrels means more revenue. More reveue means more allocations of funds for states and FG. More allocations means more financing for capital projects and state ones too.
That's the way I see it. If we can't use what we have to get to what we wantt, I don't see how we can utilize the most of our cuntry. I guess you also believe if a cat eats your fish, you employ the cat to protect the fish. GEJ gave Tompolo contracts to protect the water ways and prevent smuggling of crude oil, but the amount of crude oil stolen increased after that contract. Under no circumstance should a government empower militia groups. It never ends well. |
