Properties / Re: Can A Rented Apartment Contribute To The Downfall Or Growth Of A Tenant? by AZeD1(m): 3:02pm On Jan 06, 2020
XaintJoel20:
Happy Sunday Nairalanders.

The big question is this:

Can the apartment one rents contribute to his financial prosperity, uplifting and greatness and can a rented apartment also contribute to the downfall of one that was previously "doing well"?

What's your take on this?
No.

I grew up with friends who attended deeper life when TVs were still called the devil's box and guess what.... Those guys knew everything that happened on TV even though there was none in their house.

As far as your kids interact with society, they will learn things you don't approve and when you beat them, they will adjust and know that song x should not be sung infront of daddy.

They do not know the meaning of the song which means it's a phase that would have passed with the next "in thing" but your beating would most likely increase their curiosity.

Can you please throw more light on this?
Thanks.
When you submit your application, it goes through different processes e.g like security where they'll investigate if you are a potential terrorist or not.

By the time you appear for the interview, most times, it's a mere formality. It why they ask you questions you've already answered in your applications.

If you go to the visa thread, you'll see a lot of people saying the visa officer did not look at them at all but if you were interviewing someone and truly wanted to get information from them, you'll watch them to see their body language and reaction to certain questions.

For a very large number of applicants, their applications have been decided before they even set foot in the embassy. It's why they ask some one or two questions before giving you giving you a reply.

Food / Re: Rice Farmers Assures Nigerians Of Rice Availability During The Festive Period by AZeD1(m): 3:13pm On Dec 15, 2019
Those are the people that buy, hold and sell at exorbitant rates and we are trying to make sure that they do not succeed. We will continue to sell at N14, 000; we will continue to call on the government to arrest those that are selling above N15, 000 and N16, 000,” he added.

This is why we will continue to go in circles and never move forward. The thought that rice should be the same price across board.

People including the Union should be arrested for fixing prices and let everybody sell at a price that is convenient for them.

The market will choose the winner.

chewwie:

Trump is fixing what Obama ruined, but you won't see that on fake news CNN and MSDNC
The US Economy has been growing for 7 years now while Trump has been in power for like 4 years now stop saying what you don't know.

By the way, if you compare the numbers , Obama's last 4 years have been better than Trumps first term.

For the record

"President Obama's first inauguration was held during the depths of the Great Recession. The situation was dire; the economy had lost nearly 3.6 million jobs in 2008 and was shedding jobs at a nearly 800,000 per month rate when he took office. During September 2008, several major financial institutions either collapsed, were forced into mergers, or were bailed-out by the government. The financial system was nearly frozen, as the equivalent of a bank run on the essentially unregulated, non-depository shadow banking system was in-progress.[23] Ben Bernanke later stated that 12 of the 13 largest U.S. financial institutions were at risk of failure during the crisis.[24]

"Approximately 8.7 million private sector jobs were lost between January 2008 and February 2010 due to the Great Recession. The unemployment rate (U-3) began rising from 4.7% in November 2007 and peaked at 10.0% in October 2009 as the crisis deepened, approximately where it remained until November 2010. Thereafter, it began a steady decline through the remainder of his tenure, reaching 4.7% in 2016. Another measure of unemployment (U-6), which includes workers marginally attached to the labor force and those employed part-time for economic reasons, rose from 8.4% in November 2007 and peaked at 17.1% in November 2009, approximately where it remained until November 2010. Thereafter, it began a steady decline until reaching 9.4% in January 2017.[49]

Measured from the month following his inauguration in January 2009, the U.S. added 11.6 million private sector jobs from February 2009 to January 2017. Measured from the crisis trough in February 2010, the U.S. added a total of 16.1 million private sector jobs over the remaining 83 months of the Obama presidency — the longest continuous period of private sector job creation on record.[50] By comparison, no net jobs were added during the 2000–2009 period including the crisis impact, while 18 to 22 million jobs were added each decade from 1970 to 1999.[51]

Non-farm job creation averaged approximately 200,000/month for 73 months from October 2010 to October 2016, a robust rate by historical standards. For example, job creation per month averaged 236,000 (Clinton), 209,000 (Carter), 167,000 (Reagan), 50,000 (G. H. W. Bush), and 13,000 (G. W. Bush).[51][52]"

You can hate Obama all you like because you have a right to do so but don't lie on his numbers because even Trump you are celebrating hasn't matched those numbers yet.

The only way forward in this country is to privatise our 'major' roads, else, it will forever be the same sad story.
We cannot and should not transfer the responsibility of the government to private hands.
Better options

Allow private investors build and operate rails/ trains. That would reduce pressure on the roads.

Reduce the size of the government (all levels). Roads should be transferred to state governments i.e all roads in Lagos should be the responsibility of the Lagos State government.

To say that a President that was elected by this country does not deserve to be addressed as President because you disagree with something; for me, that is the limit of disrespect not just to the President but the presidency and sovereignty of this country”.

Punch said they would address him and I'm pretty sure they have the right to do so.

Everyone that has addressed this punch issue has refused to address the main issue..
Is the punch right in saying Buhari is behaving like a dictator?

Buhari swore an oath to uphold the Constitution of Nigeria and he has failed to do that. That's a big insult to Nigeria.

Politics / Re: Court Orders Saraki’s Ilorin Houses Forfeited To FG by AZeD1(m): 7:08pm On Dec 02, 2019
“I know for a fact and verily believe that our investigation has revealed the following mind-boggling findings, among others:

“That between 2003 and 2011, Dr Olubukola Abubakar Saraki was the Executive Governor of Kwara State.

“That whilst he held the aforementioned position, the common pattern was that after payment of monthly allocation by the Federal Government to the Kwara State Government, a cumulative sum of not less than N100m will be deposited into the Kwara Government House account.

“That upon the payment of the said N100m, same will, in turn, be withdrawn in cash by one Mr Afeez Yusuf from the Kwara State Government House, Ilorin’s account in bits and brought to the Government House.”

The EFCC said it believed that Saraki developed the two properties with proceeds of unlawful activities.

If this is what EFCC plans to use in court, they should please and please not waste the governments time and money.

I have not seen any crime here and it's going to be almost impossible for the EFCC to prove that it was the cash withdrawn by Afeez that was used to build those houses.

Dress codes are basically training you for the job market....

This is bullsh**t.
There are two skills you need for the job market.
1) People skills
2) Technical skills (skills you need to do the job)

No matter how you dress, if you don't the two skills above, you are on a long thing.

Back to ABU
When you attend "good schools", you'll see that nobody literally gives a f**k about what you wear.
Lecturers are concerned whether their students are learning or not.
When a lecturer meets a good student, the lecturer thinks about mentoring the student or finding a good mentor for the student.
When the lecturer meets a struggling student, the lecturer is concerned about why the student is struggling and how they can help.

If the management of ABU was seriously concerned about funding for research, they wouldn't have time to think about students dressing.

1) Good for you people.
2) I think my office is typically of most offices in the world today.

As for dress codes. You moan about unviersity dress codes, but if a female doctor came to attend to you wearing a micromini skirt, with a sleveless blouse displaying her cleavage....you would complain. Or if a female teacher did the same when teaching your children(Yes, the dress conde exists in the workplace..just as bad as the unviersites). Dress codes are preparing you for the world tomorrow...where companies and institutions do the same in the name of corporate image.

Like the lawyers...why is it ok for lawyers to have a dress code, and not unviersites?
1) You literally have no idea how my doctor dresses and I would not give a f**k how my doctor dresses.
When I meet a doctor, I am only concerned about their knowledge.
2) The world of today and tomorrow doesn't give a f**k about how you dress. Ladies in my office wear shorts and nobody bats an eyelid because at the end of the day, we only care about your work.
3) When you attend a good university, you will know serious schools don't have time for this kind of thing.

A bit disappointing, but not unusual for mega-projects of this magnitude.

This is going to have a huge positive impact on our Naira exchange rate, because the millions of dollars wasted importing fuel daily will be saved, significantly easing dollar demand with the consequent effect on prices.

Aliko Dangote must also be made to repatriate a good part of his forex (earned from exporting refined products) back to the country (as current export guidelines require) as this will further boost our reserves and economic standing.

An exciting development for Nigeria worth looking forward to.

You are correct, I apologize for that. However, if bring in goods,it must be within you duty-free limit (I.e it must be for your personal use or given as gift). However, you cannot sell it without paying duties.

However, I've seen them stop some guys who arrived Heathrow with lots of expensive wristwatches without declaring them.
There's no duty free limit for personal items.

It's hard to prove that 10 expensive wristwatches still in the pack belongs to you as personal items.

I agree with you. Ppl that are shouting haven't travelled abroad. Most European airports ask you to declare the cash equivalent of goods over a certain amount. Failure to do so means you are smuggling into the country. The lady who claimed she bought it from a duty free shop knew what she was doing. If she didn't buy from the duty free shop, she would have paid tax in her departure country.
This is a big lie.

You are asked to declare cash/monetary instruments above 10k and not goods over 10k.

With a MacBook pro 2019 2.4ghz an Apple watch and an iPhone, you already have goods worth 5k.

10k in goods is not hard to meet.

“Regarding Hiquado Limited, it executed Ikot Abasi new Sub-Station, Adiabo Sub-Station and Calabar Sub-Station. It got paid as follows: Ikot Abasi( N4,485,695,913.93 and $59,317,649.31) ; Adiabo( N893, 281,533.80 and $7, 811,597.26. The company did well in these two sub-stations. At Ikot Abasi, the company bought materials but could not use because of the existing lines. All the materials will be used.

“But for Calabar EPZ Sub-Station, the completion rate was at 35% because of erosion challenge. The materials were bought but the environmental challenge affected the project. Although these materials had been vandalized, Hiquado Limited has approached the NDPHC to refund the cost of the materials to the agency.”

This doesn't look like fraud to me. The report says the company did well in places without challenges.
