Politics / Re: Why Do We Send Generated Power To National Grid And Receive A Fraction? by AZeD1(m): 5:05pm On Mar 19, 2019 |
meccuno:There are three segments of power: Generation, Transmission and Distribution. Generation and Distribution have been privatized why Transmission is in the hands of the FG. Its is possible to by pass transmission within a locality (say a state) so if you generate power in Akwa Ibom and want to sell in Akwa Ibom, you don't need transmission, you just need to talk directly to the distribution company in charge of Akwa Ibom and sell the generated power to them directly. But if your customer is in Lagos or Benin, then you need to talk to Transmission so they can get the power to Benin/Lagos for you. 3 Likes 1 Share |

meccuno: Akwa Ibom owns the Ibom power plant and it supplies power to Akwa Ibom. You can see more about the the company here.. http://ibompower.com/company/ |

meccuno:This is wrong. The reason why power was sent to the national grid was because of cost. It's cheaper to generate power via water (hydro stations) than gas because the input for hydro stations which is water cost nothing. So using a central grid meant a person in kano paid the same as a person in Enugu. Now the law has been amended (since 2014) and anyone is free to generate power and distribute as they like. Transmission is different from Distribution and the FG only controls Transmission. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Delivar: Innovation has nothing to do with it. Nairaland has a content problem. This closest western site that you can compare to Nairaland is Reddit and Reddit did its first UI change last year. Reddit has managed to keep its "trolls" under control but it's very hard to have an intellectual discussion on Nairaland. |

MrMcJay: You quoted my comment so you technically mentioned my name... As for the advice, Craiglist hasn't changed its design since day one and its still minting money even though folks like you have predicted it demise for ages. |

MrMcJay: I'll say it again, stop comparing Western companies to Nigerian companies, they are vastly different. There's a Youtube app specially built for Africa. Google can afford to do that because the mint money. By you have not still said how adding video would increase Nairalands revenue. |

MCMLXXVI:Stop comparing American companies with Nairaland, it shows ignorance. Twitter has lost $2 billion since it started. Before Twitter went public, it had lost over $400 million. Do you think Nairaland can afford to lose a tenth of that? |
Sports / Re: When Jay Jay Okocha disciplined Oliver Kahn during match (Throwback) by AZeD1(m): 7:03pm On Mar 15, 2019 |
To those who are asking why Nairaland doesn't do video, here's a very simple explanation. Video is heavy both ways... Adding video to Nairaland would drastically increase the infrastructure cost for Nairaland but would bring very little revenue. Also a lot of Nigerians access Nairaland via their mobile phones and believe it or not, data isn't cheap (or even fast) to a lot of Nigerians so adding video means Seun loses out on people who cant afford unlimited data which would in turn limit viewship and that leads to less revenue from ads. It's easy to should innovation/improvement or whatever you want to call it but at the end of the day, Nairaland is a business to Seun numbers rule in the world of Business. 1 Like |

laminaria: I believe there are football leagues(amateurs) in all provinces and you just have to find them(reddit/{province}) is a good way to start your search. Alternatively, you can start one. I play basketball every Tuesday at a local school(someone organized it via reddit) and we all pay $5 every time you show up towards the maintenance of the school gym. 8 Likes |

TrueNigerian300:1) How can Nigeria get better when there's no semblance of fairness? It is impossible to attain true fairness because we are human but why tell a child to study hard when the chances of getting a job without knowing someone in power limited?. How can you tell civil servants to be diligent when promotion is by who you know? The first step to building a country is by trying to make the country as fair for everyone as possible. 2) I have a B.sc in Mathematics and an M.sc in Computer Science....... 3)Like I have said before, true fairness cannot be achieved but I will always try to support fairness when I can. As of today, I don't think I would work in a company that doesn't offer paternity leave as one of its benefits because if and when I decide to have a child, I want to be there in the beginning. |

PS: A woman was part of the Fortran team. 3) Would you be fine if your boss promoted a lady over you if though you know she's does nothing? Would you say she was smart by using her "bottom" power to negotiate? |

francescainnoce:We have morals and Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries on earth? How is that possible? TrueNigerian300: 1) https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/16/apple-conde-nast-and-ryanair-among-companies-with-the-gender-pay-gaps.html examples of companies with pay disparity. Also if you think Equal pay is based on gender, I'll say you are clueless but I am in a good mood, so i'll educate you. Equal pay for equal means paying people the same thing for doing the same job. In Nigeria, most companies(Banks, Oil companies ) do not pay contract staff the same amount they pay their regular staff even though they do the same job. That's unfair. If two people do the same thing, they should be rewarded the same. 2) The first programmer was a woman. The first complier was designed by a woman. The computer program that took man to the moon was written by a woman. Liskov Substitution( the L in SOLID) is named after a woman.. PS: Don't bother to reply because you are clueless: |

TrueNigerian300:1) Equal pay is about paying people the same wages for doing the same job. If you don't understand something, its better to be silent than say rubbish. 2) Men are not better than women in engineering or programming and women are not better than men in customer service. 3) There's no consequence to a man when a woman dresses however she seems fit. If you have a problem with how a woman dresses, see your doctor. 1 Like |
