TSRC:

I actually think it is a very good idea.
If countries can run airlines and generate significant revenue from it, then why not states?
In Nigeria, the market is large.

And depending on how professional and efficiently it is ran, it could become an international player and earn foreign revenue for the state.

The real question is will the akwa ibom government run it properly, both in finance and administration?

That is the million dollar question.
1) Very few countries run airlines and a large number of those that run airlines, them subsidize the airlines(Emirates, Qatar et al).
2) Nigeria is not a large market. When it comes to airlines, Nigeria is a tiny market.
3) Lol at Ibom air being an international player.

Have you checked how many private airlines in Nigeria are profitable?

That the so called youths on this forum think this is a good idea is probably why Nigeria is doomed.

This is worse than a terrible idea.

Last month ? To be sincere with you I think you might need to read the Tenancy laws of where you live to understand it better. Security deposit is due to secure a spot (Half Rent) and the rent for that spot is due on the first day of the month. I am surprised that you are being asked to pay for last month and I think any Landlord telling you to do that might just be taking advantage of you. I am not an expert so I will take your word for it as experiences differ.I think we should just move on from this and thank you for this information as I have learnt something new today

A landlord can demand a last month's rent deposit on or before the landlord and tenant enter into the tenancy agreement. The rent deposit is to be for one month's rent or the rent for one rental period, whichever is less.

A landlord can ask for a deposit on keys or pass cards but the amount must be refunded with the return of the keys or pass cards at the end of the tenancy, and can not exceed the expected costs of replacing the keys or pass cards.

Those are laws in Ontario.

Legally a landlord cannot ask you for 4 months rent but when you don't have a guarantor/ proof of employment and others, paying rent in advance is one of the ways members on this thread have used to overcome the lack of documentation.

Well whether you are new or not,By law no landlord has the right to ask you for rent more than a month at a time. He can ask for those other documents you requested (Guaranto, Ref, Proof of Employment, Run a credit check, etc) and the best you should do is give him a post dated cheque for those future dates. You are not legally bound to pay him for more than a month's rent in advance documentation or not.

Nobody has said you are legally bound to pay it but I know in Ottawa, first and last month is legal as well as security deposit(that's basically 3 months rent already.)

The question is now what would you advise an immigrant with family that has none of those documents to do in their search for a house? Keep paying hotel fees or bite the bullet and pay if you have the money?

lolz ! I think you are likely being scammed if anyone tells you this. To the best of my knowledge:
Rent is due on the first day of each month
Your Landlord can ask for Post dated cheques for a full year matching the 1st of each successive month depending on agreement but you dont pay for more than a month at a time. orally, legally and in all areas it is wrong and most probably scam.
Most apartments dont come furnished (Bedding, iron, etc) .They only have the basics. Fridge, hot stove or cooker, etc also depending on place. That doesn't take away the fact that you might find some places actually furnished with beddings and everything you need.I will recommend trying to find a friend you can stay with first; or book and Airbnb for a start if you dont know anyone while you try to look for a place yourself when you re on ground
Some Landlord actually ask for proof of employment/ Guarantor before they let out to you, most new comers don't have either so people tend to pay 3/4 months rents since they can't provide the documentation.

This is totally subjective and location dependent. Some marketers would get a marketing job before they land while it might take another marketer months.

truth be told, internet users data is deceiving in nigeria but the market is there.. iroko were smart to go offline, these offline tactics are very common in emerging markets where offline market is bigger than online market, with time it changes....i read iroko profit and loss books.. they are making a loss just like any other startups because of investors money but Nigeria is their number 1 source of revenue

Population and Internet Data deceives in Nigeria. I know this because I have played in the tech startup scene for a while and the amount of road blocks on the way is terrifying.

PS: I am not saying you can't make money in Nigeria. My comment was to guy who thinks Dangote is slacking because he's not the richest man in the world.

SMH, enough said ..like said people learn from experience some aply too much of it and other apply less , my name will make grounds not i just in a white country but in my country its not a belief its a plan .

some month ago when i visited my aunty , she told me about her poultry and the lack of profits she was making, I wanted to help her so I went to the market , went online did some research and I told her to go get a loan cos she was ready to give the business her all so I told her to do all this.
*increase her poultry stock and employ more people.
*get someone who can help her deliver chickens to people via delivery service ,she had a pick up truck .
*design a business card and go to,restaurants, joints, eateries and supermarkets to offer them the services of supplying them already prepared ones .
* get a deep freezer to store , get a packaging pack to kill and store the birds .
*get a stand in the market to help her sell .
*get souvenirs which she could put in packages for customers .
*get little booklets where recipes of various menus can be added to her products as her souvenirs.

they were mere ideas but I am grateful she did take my advice serious ,poultry no be business poultry no be business my bro my aunty is planning on establishing a fish farm as we speak, her poultry is doing great.

Things are hard ,the economy is bad but that is not enough to stop me from making clean honest money ,even in war people still make money.

Nobody has said you can't make money in Nigeria, what they have said is the statement(If Dangote wants to be the richest man in the world, he can do it because of resources) is misguided.

The day your aunty decides to speak against her local government chairman is the day her Poultry farm is closed down and there's no idea you can think of to counter that.

Two years ago, a close relative was making close to 30M in revenue monthly, now if they make 10M they rejoice. What are the problems aside the recession? Infrastructure, the road to their warehouse is bad and they now spend double on monthly car repairs, in the guise of fixing the road, they dug gutters along the road so at a point, Trucks could not enter the warehouse so they had to hire more loaders which isn't cost effective.

If you apply for a Fintech license from CBN and a director is against you, your chances are slim to none of getting that license which means your Idea is dead on arrival.

The problem with starting a business in Africa is that you subject to the mood of people in power and to some people, its not worth the stress.

Business is all good in Nigeria until you have to deal with the Government.

There's a reason why an idea can be copyrighted and that's because you are not the only one with that special idea.

pretty sure the same thing people talked about when. the wright brothers made plans for the first air plane , reality is just a conduit to our dreams sir , right now right here some one has this totally ridiculous idea that could change or even more solve one universal problem or the other , reality is no excuse to dream neither is it a constraint to pursue them.

take cues from billionaires , it started with just this ridiculous crazy idea.

The Wright brothers were realist, you are not...
If you think Dangote isn't trying to make more money then you are deluded

lol I am in my final year sir as a computer science student and I and a few friends who we all are working hand in hand as software developers , our recent project has been approved and a few of our contact friends over seas seemed a bit awe at the potential of what we are currently designing, few softwares offer what ours is already boasting of , potentials we didn't even think it has but by his grace this software is going places , am not a motivational speaker bro , words mean nothing if you cant apply them .
Go ask Shim Shagaya, Jason Njoku and co what it takes to build a software business in Nigeria...

Only 40% of Nigerians are banked so from a population of (180M, you are now left with 108 that can process transactions through the bank)

Of that 108, less than 50% have ATM cards with those having, probably having at least 2....

There's literally no startup in Nigeria today in which I don't know one developer and everyone starts with an awesome idea until reality hits and they realize that Nigeria's population is deceiving.

Not everyone understands , honestly if anyone gave me money for a visa to travel out right now I would invest it in a business immediately, developing countries are treasures of solid wealth all over the world , an a country like Nigeria is no exception sometimes I wonder why someone like aliko isn't climbing the Forbes list yearly , with his resources and the potentials in Africa if he wanted to become the worlds wealthiest man I believe that could happen, business entrepreneurs are changing the world one product at a time by God's grace I am no exception, I can't spend five years in the school and end up shouting no jobs ,I dont need a salary when I have a business plan.

I like your optimism but dreams and reality are totally different different.

I just want to stress that IMO the biggest factor that will determine success as a software engineer is interest . Because there’ll be problems that might take days to solve and sometimes involve you starting almost from scratch several times . Without genuine interest for the field , this will become a frustrating cycle , on the other hand if you’re passionate , you’ll see each cycle as one step closer to a beautiful solution.
On point...
