remind me again the real (not inflated cost) of an airport and why each state in nigeria shouldnt aspire to have one. Apart from the telecommunication and rader tech, an airport is actually basically a bus station. The cost of a basic airport shouldnt be more than $3m.

Does it occur to u that why there are less ppl using air in nigeria is because of inadequate investment in air travel. If there are 37 airports in nigeria and up to 10 local airlines as massive as airpeace, they can force air fairs down to say 15k from lag to abj....tell me why the millions of nigerians making daily travels on deadly, herdsmen-infested high ways wont put a little extra and fly?
Saying an airport is basically a bus station, shows you how clueless you are.

I dare you to find an airport runway that cost $3M.

since it has a budget 5 times that of nigeria, nigeria shouldnt have an airport at all na...or we should just have one...lol

Ur argument is just that....arguement

You are the one who brought the stupid comparison. California as a state is bigger and richer than Nigeria but you think because California more than 5 airports, every state in Nigeria should have one?

California has air traffic passengers of 16Million, while Nigeria as a country struggles with less than half of that.

every single state in nigeria needs an airport. States like california have up to 5 even

Los Angeles which is a city in California has a budget $32.5 billion, which is more than 5 times the budget of Nigeria as a country.

Unfortunately, some of the money they are spending comes from my state so what's your point?

I will never understand Nigerian governors fascination with airports and Stadiums.

Ebonyi doesn't need an airport or a stadium right now.

You are still stuck in the 40's and I'm not sure anyone can help you.

You cannot make money from agriculture using manual labour.
If your price is not competitive, your business will close down.

If manual farming was profitable, people will not be leaving their villages to come and ride Okada in Lagos and Port Harcourt..

Boss, you seem to have missed the bigger picture.

I think Mr. Ogar may have to go to the Villa and convince Mr president that Agriculture majorly concerns farmlands than it concern cows (Even though both encompasses agriculture).

Our sitting president may be of the view that cow majors above farmlands. If the later is the position of our helms man, then Mr. Ogar may have failed the screening test for not mentioning cows in his statement.
Nigerian politicians don't have a big picture....Mr Ogar is only saying what the people want to hear.

Only in Nairaland, empty heads call accomplished industrialists dullard... While u are talking about mechanized farming u forget that we have a comparative advantage in a teeming labour force who must be engaged productively to reduce unemployment.
U also forget that growing an economy is a matter of improving
per capita income and not more expenditures as ur machines will have to be imported.
In all ur wisdom u won't imagine that a modern farm settlement or an integrated Agro based industrial city will both provide direct and indirect jobs in the interim and a host of other side industries to stimulate the economic growth we so need?
U want mechanized farming... What has happened to all the tractors our governor's and officials has been buying all these years. .

Don't come online and show off crass ignorance by insulting the sensibilities of learned people. If u must insult a man, better know more than he does
Your post is an example of why Nigeria is not moving forward. You seem at home with mediocrity.

U also forget that growing an economy is a matter of improving per capita income and not more expenditures as ur machines will have to be imported.
You will not improve per capital income by employing people to do manual labour on a farm because the farm will most likely not be efficient which in turn would make what ever is produced more expensive and this would lead to importation/smuggling of cheaper products which will ultimately kill the farm and make the people that were hired unemployed... Back to square one.

Reducing unemployment is why the Nigerian civil service is bloated, inefficient and consuming more than 50% of the budget.
Reducing unemployment is why the Nigerian government keeps building new sub standard universities.

Nobody starts a business to reduce unemployment, rather when a business is started with growth and profitability in mind, unemployment would reduce.

Look at the list of countries in which depend on agriculture and see that they are all poor countries...

Then when you look at the list of high earners from agriculture, you would see that they are highly mechanized.

Take for instance, if you build a farmland where you can house over 150 youths and you provide enabling accommodation for them and you give them all the necessary amenities. I can tell you that these youths will be powerful to turn an entire piece of land to something that will create revenue for the entire country.

Another dullard about to be made minister by the IQ reducing President.

Someone please tell this man that to be remotely competitive in agriculture, it has to be mechanized. If your farm is not mechanized, it would be cheaper to import.

This is 2019 not 1943.

Politics / Re: How Foreign Exchange Was Rigged To Keep Africa Poor by AZeD1(m): 10:34pm On Jul 22, 2019
googi:
With all respect sir, Africans are the most productive people on earth, no matter where we are. You should wonder how we still survived.

Starting from Nigeria, most of the poor people work from dusk to dawn making meager profit. You can even say that is what you mean. The rich and the fortunate ones go outside Nigeria to open factories in the middle of the jungle with zero enabling environment and still make a profit but not as much as the do in Nigeria, the profit capital of the world.

The same is true in the so called green pastures. Africans become productive by tulasi working against all odds without tapping into the enabling environment they complained about at home.

I still remember the day I carried phone books in the middle of a major street because I lied that I had a car. I had to get a friend to drop the phones books at different blocks so that I could deliver them from one office to another. African must wack nah, plus the fact that I had school fees to pay in September, a couple of months away. We all laugh and tell stories now but in those days, it was do or die!

Would I do that in Nigeria? For wia?

Greed makes us import refine and finished products like oil and export crude. Since that is where demand is.

Japan gained entry into world market after bombing the heck out of them to rehabilitate them. Chinese gain entry to spite Russia. No single African country is a member of the world trade. Check it out.

You can be hard working and still not be productive.

This is one of our biggest problem in Africa. I don't understand why this doesn't get the necessary attention and debate it deserves. This is a fundamental problem responsible for Africa's economic woes; the reason why poverty levels continue to increase. Every time an economy devalue its currency: we have massive job losses, poor economic growth, closure of manufacturing facilities and other regressive economic issues. Currency issues is a big problem in Africa. As Africans, the time is now to combat this menace with necessary awareness, debate, strategy and policy formulation.

This is a big lie....China and Japan currently keep their currencies low because it enables export. The reason why Africa is poor is because we are not productive.
Take a look at Nigeria, we export crude to import the refined products...how would you make progress like that?

naptu2:
There's nothing new or strange about what happened. In fact, it's almost standard.

Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi appeared before the Senate for his confirmation hearing in 2007. I watched the session live on the NTA.

President Obasanjo had done his homework and the Senate had already agreed to confirm Justice Kutigi.

The senate president, Senator Ken Nnamani told Justici Kutigi that his CV was impressive and that he would be confirmed. However, Senator Nnamani said that they were going to ask Justice Kutigi some questions, so that he could advise and guide the Senate.

I can't remember if it was Senator Ibrahim Mantu or Senator Jonathan Zwingina, but one of them asked Justice Kutigi a question. Justice Kutigi spoke at length and ended up saying absolutely nothing.

The senator was surprised and he rephrased the question. Justice Kutigi dribbled on and on and ended up saying nothing. The senate president intervened. He told Justici Kutigi that they had already agreed to confirm him and that they simply want him to advise and guide the Senate and that his advice would help them to make better laws.

Again, Justice Kutigi spoke at length, but he still didn't answer the question. The senator and the senate president were shocked. Then the senate president asked him to go and they voted and confirmed his appointment.

I was laughing at home, but I was a little bit frustrated by the actions of the senators. I could understand what was happening and I couldn't understand why the senators couldn't understand what I understood.

Justice Kutigi did not want to answer the question because he didn't want his opinion to be on record because a similar issue might be before him in court in future.

I could understand this and I was wondering why the senators did not understand this simple point.

Justice Kutigi deliberately spoke off topic because he did not want to answer the question.
Smart people can say lots of things without saying anything and not sound like an idiot(e.g motivational speakers). The CJN might have tried to evade the question but he ended up looking like a slowpoke.
