Tinubu made this statement during the inauguration ceremony of the newly sworn-in Governor of Ekiti state, Abiodun Oyebanji.

Manchester United player Mason Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling behaviour and assault, NRTC can confirm.

The England player was arrested in January after allegations were revealed in images and videos posted online.

The 21-year-old was arrested again on Saturday for allegedly breaching his bail.

Greenwood is now expected to stand trial at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The footballer has been called once by the senior England men’s team, Three Lions. He has not played or trained with Manchester United since the allegations emerged.

During the revelations about the attempted rape and assault, Nike also ended its sponsorship deal with Greenwood. In a similar move, Electronic Arts (EA) removed him from active squads on its Fifa 22 game.

The arrested leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, had his appeal accepted by the Court of Appeal on Thursday in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Additionally, the court freed and exonerated the troubled group’s leader.

Kanu requested release and acquittal in his appeal, which was dated April 29 and was designated CA/ABJ/CR/625/2022. Kanu was initially charged on December 23, 2015, and on April 25, 2017, he was released on bail.

However, the Court of Appeal threw out the entire set of terrorism-related accusations that the Federal Government had brought against Kanu and declared on Thursday that his kidnapping from Kenya to Nigeria was illegal and illegitimate.

The Appellate Court held that the Federal Government breached all local and international laws in the forceful rendition of Kanu to Nigeria thereby making the terrorism charges against him incompetent and unlawful.

The Appeal Court in a judgment by Justice Oludotun Adebola voided and set aside the charges by the Federal Government against Kanu.

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), a body of political parties in Nigeria, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to rig 2023 general elections.

This alarm was raised at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday by the CUPP spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere.

He said there were plots to undermine the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine during the elections.

He noted that plots had been finalized on deactivating the BVAS from its server.

Ugochinyere also alleged that INEC will be under pressure not to transmit the results of the 2023 polls electronically.

However, he cautioned that the opposition parties will resist any attempt to conduct the 2023 general elections without BVAS and electronic transmission of results.

According to him, the opposition parties would also be heading to court over the issue, and also petition the international community about the alleged conspiracy to undermine the election.

“As parties, we say that arrest and public shaming of the perpetrators and their collaborators who perpetrated the voter registration fraud is non-negotiable,” Ugochinyere said.

After eight months of stalled negotiations with the Federal Government, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday expressed hope that its industrial action will end “in the next few days”.

“We hope that working together, in the next few days, we can put an end to this particular imbroglio in the Nigerian educational system,” ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, said at a meeting with the Femi Gbajabiamila-led House of Representatives.

Lecturers of public universities have been on strike since February 14, 2022, over poor welfare and unpaid Earned Academic Allowance.

Gbajabiamila had on Friday said the country would soon hear from President Muhammadu Buhari on the protracted ASUU strike.

Gbajabiamila, who met with the President at the State House for the second time in one week over the ASUU strike, said discussions with the President were fruitful, adding that Buhari would make known his decisions to the public after reviewing the lawmakers’ recommendations.

On Monday at a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other members of the green chamber, Osodeke said urged the lawmakers to work alongside university lecturers to end the imbroglio.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one place from 31 to 32 in the September FIFA men’s rankings.

Ranked 31st in the world in the ranking released in August, the Super Eagles dropped six points to 32nd.

The drop in the rankings was largely due to the Super Eagles’ 2-1 away defeat to Algeria in their international friendly played in September.

Nigeria was beaten by the Desert Foxes in a friendly encounter at the Miloud Hadefi Olympic Complex, Oran, in September. It was the three-time African champions’ only game in the month under review.

However, Jose Peseiro’s tutored side remains the fourth-ranked team in Africa. Senegal remained first on the continent and 18th in the world. The Teranga Lions are colsely followed by Morocco in second place. The Atlas Lions also moved one place up in the world rankings to 22nd.

Thirty people have died after two canoes capsized at Birnin Waje community in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The deceased lost their lives when the canoes they boarded capsized on Wednesday night while fleeing an attack from armed men.

A source told newsmen that those who died were mostly children and women. It was said that the unfortunate incident occurred when they were trying to cross a river in an attempt to flee an attack on their community by armed men.

Unfortunately the two canoes used in a bid to move them within Zamfara were overloaded and consequently capsized.

Recently, there has been a surge in deadly raids of recent on communities in Bukkuyum.

Intelligence reports have indicated that the assaults are being carried out by bandits widely believed to be hiding in Barikin Daji and Gando forests in Bukkuyum and Gummi local government areas.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has informed the public that it has sufficient stock of petroleum products and the public should not give in to panic buying.

The company in a statement on Thursday, October 6, by Garba Muhammad, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC Ltd. said the current queue situation in some parts of Abuja and its environs was as a result of delays in arrival of fuel trucks.

Terrorists on Wednesday, October 5, freed 23 remaining captives of the Kaduna train attack.

This was disclosed by the Secretary of the Chief of Defence Staff Action Committee, Usman Yusuf. He said the hostages were released at about 4 pm.

“I am pleased to announce to the nation and the world that at 1600Hrs. (4:00pm) today, Wednesday 5-10-2022, the seven-man Presidential Committee assembled by the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General L E O Irabor, secured the release and took custody of all the 23 remaining passengers held hostage by Boko Haram Terrorists following the attack on the Abuja to Kaduna train on 28-3-2022,” he said.

According to him, the committee took custody of the victims who were kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists during an attack on a moving passenger train in Kaduna on March 28, 2022.

“The nation owes a debt of gratitude to the Nigerian Military under the leadership of the CDS who conceived and guided the operation from start to finish. All sister Security Agencies and the Federal Ministry of Transportation contributed immensely to this Operation,” Yusuf added.

“The unwavering support of the President and Commander in Chief GCFR is what made it all possible. Members of this Committee are grateful for the rare honour and privilege to be part of this humanitarian operation.”

The terrorists, who attacked the AK9 Train in Kaduna, had before now released hostages piecemeal with the last release being on August 19, 2022.

The Federal Government has established a Special Economic Zones Security (SEZSEC) outfit in a bid to protect the 46 free trade zones.

These free trade zones, according to the government, needs to be protected from economic sabotage.

While being tasked with the job of safeguarding investments, the SEZSEC outfit is also expected to complement the services rendered by the Directorate of State Security (DSS), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, disclosed this in Abuja during the decoration of 37 officers drawn from various academic disciplines.

Adebayo said: “The reason we decided to establish the unit is to provide adequate security for lives, properties and investments in the free trade zones. This bold step will help to build the confidence of investors, owners of enterprises in the zones and prospective investors alike.”

He said the government was hopeful that the new development would bring in more foreign direct investment (FDI). The Minister also stated that it is natural for investments to be made where security is guaranteed, hence protection of the free trade zones.

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Felix Morka, on Thursday distanced the party from a letter accusing the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, of breaching the agreement regarding the constitution of campaign council members.

Early on Thursday, a purported letter had leaked wherein the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, accused Tinubu of appointing members of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council without the approval of the National Working Committee.

Adamu demanded the immediate withdrawal of the presidential campaign council list, warning that any sign of disarray in the party’s ranks would undermine the spirit of the campaign and give an undue alarm to party followers across the country.

But the APC spokesman in a statement said the letter did not emanate from Adamu, adding that the party will not be distracted by those he described as detractors.

“To be clear, the “DRAFT” letter did not emanate from the Party. An UNSIGNED letter that marks itself as a ‘DRAFT’ cannot and should not be attributed to its purported author,” Morka said.

An opinion poll commissioned by Bloomberg News has placed Peter Obi as the leading candidate in the race to become Nigeria’s next President.

The presidential election scheduled for February next year is expected to be a three-horse race between Labour Party’s Obi, the All Progressives Congress’ Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar.

According to Bloomberg, a clear majority of respondents to the opinion poll said they intend to vote for Peter Obi, a former Anambra state governor.

The results of the survey conducted for Bloomberg News by Premise Data Corp. were published on Wednesday as the official campaign to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari kicked off.

“Of the 92% of participants who said they’ve decided how to vote, 72% named Obi as their first choice,” Bloomberg reported.

Laolu Martins, the co-founder of the food franchise, Bukka Hut and an investment banking expert has reportedly committed suicide.

Bukka Hut is a restaurant that offers a wide variety of tasty homemade meals. Martins reportedly ended it all in his home in the early hours of Tuesday around 3am after giving up on his alleged long-fought battle against depression.

A Chartered stockbroker and a Chartered Accountant with 12 years of experience in investment banking, corporate banking, stockbroking, asset management and pension fund management, Martins started his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1999.

Nigeria lost 2-1 to the Desert Foxes of Algeria in a not-so-entertaining affair in Oran on Tuesday night. Terem Moffi opened scoring inside 10 minutes before Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez levelled three minutes before halftime.

The match winner was grabbed just a minute after the hour mark by 26-year-old OGC Nice player Youcef Atal.

Nigeria have now failed to beat the North Africans in their last four attempts. The last time the Super Eagles got the better of Djamel Belmadi’s team was in 2016.

Goalkeeping department still a problem
The long search for a dependable, rock-solid and commanding goalkeeper for the Super Eagles continues. Neither Maduka Okoye nor Francis Uzoho has shown enough confidence to man the post for the three-time African champions.

Jose Peseiro needs to quickly find a solution to the team’s goalkeeping problems as it has persisted for too long.

For Maduka, a lot of fans are yet to forgive him for the loss against Tunisia in the round of 16 clash at the 2021 AFCON. He didn’t represent the country after then due to online ‘bullying by fans.

However, he didn’t redeem himself in glory when he made an unforgivable error in the team’s test game on Saturday. The Super Eagles played a 2-2 draw with the Algeria Team B but his horrendous outing didn’t help matters. No wonder he was dropped for the match on Tuesday.

Uzoho too was not excellent as he didn’t look assured enough for most of the match.

Alex Iwobi showed the reason he remains Everton’s most important player this season. The 26-year-old, as usual, was all over the pitch. His runs, energy, penetration and versatility were on display once again.

TurnTable Charts, a Nigerian chart analytics platform and magazine, tweeted a segment of the conference captured on video, in which Mason says he and other Recording Academy brass “just had a meeting literally about six or seven days ago with leaders from the Afrobeats community” to discuss the potential move.


He had this to say, “We had a virtual listening session where we heard from Afrobeats creators and just talked about ‘What are the different subgenres? What are the needs? What are the desires?,’” he adds. “And my goal is to represent all genres of music, including Afrobeats, at the Grammys.”

Former IBA , IBO and WBF champion, Anthony Joshua could have missed another opportunity of a top shot in boxer by facing his fellow British boxer, Tyson Fury.

The Gypsy King had finally set a deadline for signing of an agreement to the fight but it didn’t happen on Monday.

This could mean Joshua might not be able to have all an British clash with Fury as the deal is off according to the Gypsy King.

Joshua after failing to regain his belts from Oleksandr Usyk had said he is not retiring as he still have what it takes to win belts back.

This means he would have to start almost from ground zero as the challengers for those belts will have to fight.

But having a date with Fury is what many have been looking forward and would have bring in the thrills and money for the game.

This is the fight Britain is waiting for
Since Joshua noted that the delay in signing are paperwork, the fight could still be possible. At least Fury should also be aware of these. It couldn’t be said that this is just a show off for Fury that had canceled fight with Joshua twice.

But if this comes up, it will be a huge opportunity for the Nigeria-born boxer to re-announce himself on the big state and get his career back in line.

Ahead of the commencement of the 2023 election campaign on Wednesday, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has made key appointments of Special Advisers aimed at strengthening his presidential campaign team.

The appointees are former Senate Presidents, Dr. Bukola Saraki as Special Envoy to the presidential candidate and Senator Pius Anyim, as Special Adviser.

Also appointed as Special Advisers to the candidate is a former governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Senator Ehigie Uzamere.

Former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus was also appointed as Technical Adviser to the presidential candidate.

The appointments are to take immediate effect.

Atiku Abubakar charged the appointees to use their vast political experiences in ensuring that the PDP presidential campaign records resounding success in the 2023 election.
