In recent times, self care has become synonymous with rest. We all know that rest is essential. We also need to care for ourselves first, then others. It is not possible to give what one does not have. Human beings, like plants need to be watered. Think of self-care as watering yourself. Here are five self care tips that will help you give and redirect your energy to yourself. 1. Nurture your interests A good place to start can be by nurturing your interests. Whether this is writing, music, painting, etc, it can go a long way in helping you. This may sound like work, but trust me, it isn’t. You are directly investing in your rest and growth. As such, it is self care. 2. Try therapy Therapy is frowned upon, in this part of the world. Mental illnesses are either ignored or misdiagnosed. A licensed therapist that help you work out some of the grievances you may have. Committing to seeing one and working out your issues will result in you feeling better about yourself. 3. Acknowledge your feelings It is normal to feel sadder. We were created to have emotions and to feel them. Sit with feelings of sadness or anger when they come. Don’t ignore them. It is only by acknowledging them that we start to feel positively about ourselves... https://newsroundtheclock.com/5-self-care-habits-that-will-improve-your-life/

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has faulted a situation whereby Federal Government granted approval to Katsina to bear arms. In a statement on Thursday, Akeredolu referred to a video on social media wherein the security outfit in Katsina was empowered to carry AK-47 to tackle internal security challenges. He accused the Federal Government of double standards, saying allowing the Katsina State security outfit to bear arms and denying the Amotekun of same rights means “we are pursuing one country, two systems.” Akeredolu, who is the chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, said that equity and justice are required in the Federal Government’s relationship with all the component units. He insisted that Ondo State will defend its people, stating that the denial of the right of Amotekun to bear arms to protect the people of the state violated the tenets of federalism. “The video making the rounds showing the equivalent of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) in Katsina, obtaining the approval of the Federal Government to bear arms is fraught with great dangers,” the statement by Akeredolu read. “Denying Amotekun the urgently needed rights to legitimately bear arms is a repudiation of the basis of true federalism, which we have been clamouring for... https://newsroundtheclock.com/akeredolu-slams-fg-over-refusal-to-allow-amotekun-bear-arms/

Atiku Abubukar, the contender for the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, outlined the requirements for Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP’s national chairman, to resign on Wednesday. This occurs just hours after the PDP’s crisis intensified on Wednesday when Governor Nyesom Wike’s group resigned from Atiku’s campaign committee. After a meeting early on Wednesday morning in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, the members declared their choice to leave the council. They argued that in order for them to reverse their decision, the PDP National Chairman must step down. But reacting to the pro-Wike group’s request, the former Vice president maintained that resigning was a sole decision for Ayu to take, adding that no one can force the PDP chairman to resign. He, however, added that if Ayu will be removed from office, it must be done in accordance with the law and the party’s constitution. “On the calls for the resignation or removal from office of our national chairman, however, I must reiterate what I have said severally in public and in private; the decision for Dr. Iyorchia Ayu to resign from office is personal to Dr. Ayu and, neither I nor anyone else can make that decision for him,” Atiku said in a statement on Wednesday. https://newsroundtheclock.com/atiku-pledges-support-for-ayu-despite-wikes-withdrawal-from-campaign/

The entertainment industry has become a family business for some people. They have not only thrived individually, they have successfully carried their siblings along. In this article, we would be majoring in twins in the entertainment industry. Aneke Twins Chidimma and Chidiebere Aneke are identical twins who have carved a niche for themselves in Nollywood. The Enugu-based actresses were born on August 6, 1986 and have been in the industry for over a decade. They are both graduates of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State. Chidimma studied Mass Communication while Chidiebere studied Banking and Finance. More so, they are both alumni of New York Film Academy. Their striking resemblance has made it difficult for filmmakers to identify the difference between them. In an interview with Punch in May 2022, Chidiebere said, “We have done that (played pranks on filmmakers) several times. Whenever I get a script for a movie role that I do not like, I could give it to my twin sister. We usually exchange our phones, so that the producer and director would not know. We wear the same clothes and hairstyles, so they would not know the difference. I receive all her (Chidimma) phone calls and she answers mine too. Till the end of the movie shoot, we would not reveal our identities.” P Square Peter and Paul Okoye are popular hip-hop singers from Anambra State. They were born on November 18, 1981. In the 2000s, they gained stardom with their hit songs including ‘Temptation’, ‘Omoge Mi’, ‘Busy Body’, ‘Game Over’ and ‘Get Squared’. Although they had some issues which caused their break up and made them go solo in 2017, the duo came back together in November 2021 to give their fans more hits. Peter and Paul are known as Mr P and Rudeboy respectively. https://newsroundtheclock.com/celebs-in-nigeria-who-are-twins/

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday gave an insight into why much funds went into the conduct of elections. Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, gave the insight while responding to questions at an interactive session with the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) tagged ‘The Editors’ Forum’ in Lagos. According to him, the cost of logistics, highly-secured ballot papers, and allowances for personnel, among other reasons, are responsible for the huge funds used in conducting elections in Nigeria. “In France, the ballot paper is like an A4 sheet of paper, because it is unthinkable that anybody in France will snatch the ballot paper. “But here in Nigeria, we print ballots papers in currency quality and we entrust them to the Central Bank of Nigeria. “The ballot papers will now be moved with all the protocols and security according to the movement of the national currency, just to protect the process. “This is not going to be done cheaply. So, we pay for lack of trust in the system,” the INEC boss said. Yakubu, however, said that Nigeria’s elections were not the most expensive if the entire cost was spread per head of the voting population, projected to be about 95 million. https://newsroundtheclock.com/inec-explains-reason-for-high-budget-over-electoral-conduct/

The Director of Strategic Communication of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Alake, has attributed the source of the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, to investment in the stocks of blue chip companies. Mr Alake spoke about Tinubu’s wealth during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. Asked about the source of the former Lagos Governor’s wealth, he said, “What I know is that right from his days in the corporate world, he has been trading in stocks, and he himself said so. “He has been buying stocks and bonds and all of that. I am not a finance person. So, I am not going to be interested in the nitty-gritty of it all. But I know he has been trading in stocks. “I know that when you trade in stocks and you are a finance person, you know how to juggle the stock market and all of that. Those who are adept at it know what I am talking about. They wouldn’t start questioning how he made his money from stocks. “He was buying stocks of blue chip companies and all of that. He was making money and he was spending money. He has been doing all of these years before he got into office.” Critics and opponents of the former Lagos State governor have continued to call his wealth into question with some accusing him of corruption and of covertly owning stakes in companies. The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to sustain the fight for the return of a healthy party structure that will allow an even representation of the interest of the North and South in the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic party. The governor said the current leadership structure, with the North holding the presidential ticket as well as the national chairman positions, was against the constitution of the PDP and a gross injustice to the South. Wike made the observation at the inauguration of the Ahoada Campus and staff quarters of the Rivers State University, which was performed by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, September 8. The current hierarchy of the PDP, Wike said, did not give room for the interest of the South, particularly when decisions were to be taken. Governor Wike said the resignation of the Board of Trustees Chairman was a distraction because the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had told him that the national chairman of the party, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu must relinquish his position. The governor said, “Ayu said if the presidential candidate comes from the North, he will resign after the convention of our party, and that the chairman of our party will come from the South. “When the North-Central leaders met in the house of the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, he said so there. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, said it is alarmed by the disturbing video of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State allegedly inciting his supporters, threatening to burn and unleash maximum violence on Nigerians during the 2023 general elections. In the video, Governor Bello was reportedly heard issuing terrorism threats in which he said, “I will personally light a fierce fire in my hand whoever want it we shall use it to burn them, whoever survive it will thank God… Whoever is against us we will make him or her join my mother and lie with her (my mother) in grave.” The PDP said this brazen threat by Governor Yahaya Bello raises apprehensions in the public space of the existence of a killer squad established to inflict violence on Nigerians ahead of the 2023 general elections just because they have rejected the corrupt, divisive, and rudderless All Progressives Congress (APC), which failure is most manifest by Yahaya Bello’s abysmal performance in Kogi State. In establishing its claims, PDP spokesman, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, explained that by FBI definition, terrorism is the “unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives”, hence, the reason Gov Bello’s statement can be classified as an act of terror. “From his outburst, Nigerians now know the individuals who engineered the gruesome killing of many of our citizens including the PDP Woman Leader in Kogi State, Mrs. Salome Abu, who was burnt alive in her house in 2019. “Also, Nigerians now have more insight into the disappearance of Hon. The opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s leadership was cautioned by the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday to concentrate on resolving internal disputes rather than assigning blame. The news came four days after Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP’s national chairman, accused the opposition party of financing “mischievous” social media posts in an effort to inflame the rivalry between him and Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State. Reacting to his accusation, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, on Tuesday, September 6, appealed to Ayu to leave them out of the opposition party’s internal affairs. This is even as he claims the APC does not meddle in other political parties’ affairs. Morka made the clarification in a statement issued at the party’s national secretariat. The statement partly read, “As he struggled to deny a statement credited to him that Governor Nyesom Wike could not father a child, Ayu alleged, ridiculously, that the APC and “other mischievous people” were planting such stories in the media. “Understandably, Chairman Ayu is deep in quicksand and swinging wildly in search of third parties to blame for the internal combustion in the party that he leads. “With such an escapist mindset, it is not difficult to see why the meltdown in the PDP has proven intractable on his watch. Lacking forthrightness and character to accept responsibility for the crisis in his party. How can he possibly resolve it? https://newsroundtheclock.com/apc-debunks-allegations-of-interference-in-other-parties-affairs/

2022 Commonwealth gold medalist Grace Nwokocha has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). According to the AIU, Nwokocha is accused of using banned substances while competing for honours. The 21-year-old ran the anchor leg during the Commonwealth in Birmingham just last month. She helped Nigeria claim gold medal in the 4×100m women’s final, ahead of England and Jamaica. She ran alongside Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma and another celebrity athlete, Oluwatobiloba Amusan. The victory was a superb one for the country as the four runners set a fantastic record during the Games. The quartet ran a time of 42.10s to set a new African Record and win what was, at that time, Nigeria’s 11th gold medal. The country later won a total of 12 gold medals, nine silver and 14 bronze medals. It was the first time in history that Nigeria won more than 11 gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. A statement released by the AIU on Twitter read: “The AIU has provisionally suspended Nigerian runner, Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha, for the Presence/Use of Prohibited Substances (Ostarine & Ligandrol) (Article 2.1 and Article 2.2).”
