IslamImportance of Ayatul Kursi by azharuddin(op): 12:46pm On Aug 20, 2010
Ayatul Kursi is Ayat no: 255 of Surat Al-Bakara. According to Hadith Prophet Muhammad (saw) have said it is the most important Ayat in the Quran. It is one of the four parts of Quran that are attach to Arsh(Allah's Throne) [others being Suratul Fathiha, Ayat no: 18,19 & 26,27 of Al-Imran].

There is great benefit on reciting Ayatul Kursi after every obligatory prayer, before sleeping etc, and it protects us from Shaitaan. The following are a few hadith that conveys its importance:-

Narrated by Muhammad bin Sirin: Abu Huraira said, "Allah's Apostle put me in charge of the Zakat of Ramadan (i.e. Zakat-ul-Fitr). Someone came to me and started scooping some of the foodstuff of (Zakat) with both hands. I caught him and told him that I would take him to Allah's Apostle." Then Abu Huraira told the whole narration and added "He (i.e. the thief) said, 'Whenever you go to your bed, recite the Verse of "Al-Kursi" (2.255) for then a guardian from Allah will be guarding you, and Satan will not approach you till dawn.' " On that the Prophet said, "He told you the truth, though he is a liar, and he (the thief) himself was the Satan."
Bukhari Volumn 004, Book 054, Hadith Number 495.

It was narrated from Ubayy ibn Ka’b that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked him "which aayah in the Book of Allaah was the greatest?". He said, “Allaah and His Messenger know best.” He repeated it several times, then he said, “Aayat al-Kursi.”
    [Muslim]

It was narrated that Abu Umaamah said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:“Whoever recites Aayat al-Kursiy immediately after each prescribed prayer, there will be nothing standing between him and his entering Paradise except death.”

Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (ra) narrates this (above) Hadith from Rasulallaah (saw), with the addition that "Whosoever recites it in a house wherein Shaitaan is, he (Shaitaan) will leave."

     Imam Bihaqi (Ra) States:
The one who recites Ayatul Kursi before falling asleep, Allah gives protection to his/her home and his/her Family.

(Marqat Sharah Mishkaat, Mulla Ali Qaderi, vol. 2 pp. 583)

According to the Hadith the following are the times when Ayatul Kursi should be recited:
1. After every Fard Salaat. (Only thing that ll keep us waiting from entering Paradise will be death)
2. Just before sleep. (Allah will send Angels to guard us while we are asleep)
3. While leaving the house to go somewhere.
4. When we are in desperate situations.
5. Reciting it on our possessions will bring Barakah (blessing) to it.
6. It will protect our house and children from Shaitaan.

I didnt know Ayatul kursi byheart until recently, i learnt it by reciting it watching this video 3-5 times daily. By the end of the week i knew it byheart.

Narrated Abu Huraira

Allah's Apostle said,
"Satan puts three knots at the back of the head of any of you if he is asleep. On every knot he reads and exhales the following words, 'The night is long, so stay asleep.' [/i]When one wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is undone; and when one performs ablution, the second knot is undone, and when one prays the third knot is undone and one gets up energetic with a good heart in the morning; otherwise one gets up lazy and with a mischievous heart."

First of all, doing a dance with the opposite sex (other than wife/husband) is haraam. Such dance will have music played which is also haraam. Also the limits of dancing allowed in Islam is very rigid and none of the existing dance forms at present obey the limits. So there is no point in pondering about the religion of the dancing partner.

Yes you have a very good point. We should forbid sins and encourage good deeds, (or else we ll be punished). BUT while advising other we should also follow what we say (we ll be sinning for not doing what we say others to do).

There are different opinion about usage of inhaler during fasting. Majority says using inhaler will break the fast. While facing a severe asthmatic attack inhaler can be used but the fast will be broken. I know very little about this matter, hope someone can help you more.
May Allah heal your illness and give health to fast in this holy month.

I just came across a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari. After reading it i become very afraid. I ve been posting a bit of religious stuff lately, but i just realized i should be scrutinizing myself rigorously and should be asking myself am I practicing what i preach.?

Narrated Abu Wail:

Someone said to Usama, "Will you not talk to this (Uthman)?" Usama said, "I talked to him (secretly) without being the first man to open an evil door. I will never tell a ruler who rules over two men or more that he is good after I heard Allah's Apostle saying,
'A man will be brought and put in Hell (Fire) and he will circumambulate (go around and round) in Hell (Fire) like a donkey of a (flour) grinding mill, and all the people of Hell (Fire) will gather around him and will say to him, O so-and-so! Didn't you use to order others for good and forbid them from evil?' That man will say, 'I used to order others to do good but I myself never used to do it, and I used to forbid others from evil while I myself used to do evil.' "

[Sahih Bukhari:Volume 9, Book 88, Number 218]

Brothers and Sisters, we should be careful
When we advice someone to do good deeds we should already be doing it, and
we should NOT indulge in the evils that we forbade others.
In other words WE SHOULD CONTROL OUR TONGUE. Never advice others unless you are sure you are doing it.
(By making this statement 'I' should be the first one who should be controlling my tongue.!)

Oh Allah. You are the master of the world, the most gracious and the most merciful,
Help us control what we say and what we do, Protect our tongue from saying anything but good,
Oh Allah  You alone we worship, You alone we ask for help,
Save us from being a Hypocrite, save us from the fire of Hell.
Ameen.

Brothers stop arguing, i do not know anything about this boy. Some say he is a scholar, some say likes to be treated like a king. Truth, ? Allah knows best.

Now Generally speaking we have a lot of people nowadays who are being called scholars! some of them fake, some of them very truthful and humble. I would like to say whatever these scholars say, we should do cross reference. Get yourself a copy of Quran its translation and commentary in English or your mother tongue. Also get a copy of Hadith of Imam Bukhari and Muslim (its available in the internet). What ever people say ask for proof from Quran or Hadith. Do not believe anybody blindly.

Abu Umamah Al-Bahili (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,
"I guarantee a house in Jannah for one who gives up arguing, even if he is in the right; and I guarantee a home in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even for the sake of fun; and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannahfor one who has good manners.''

Assalamualaikum sister,
It seems its obligatory for pregnant woman to observe fast UNLESS there is genuine fear of harm to the mother or the fetus. In that case it is obligatory to make up your fast later.

Ibn ‘Abbaas said: This is a concession allowed to old men and women, who can only fast with difficulty; they are allowed to break the fast and to feed one poor person for each day of fasting missed. This also applies to pregnant and nursing women, if they are afraid.” Abu Dawood said: “i.e., if they are afraid for their children, they may break the fast.”
(Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1947; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Irwa’, 4/18, 25).

There is reward for Suhur(meal before Fajr) and hastening in breaking the fast.

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Take meal a little before dawn, for there is a blessing in taking meal at that time.

Sahl b. Sa'd (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The people will continue to prosper as long as they hasten the breaking of the fast.

IslamRe: The Salafi Dawah by azharuddin: 12:54am On Aug 12, 2010
if you did you would know that the way out of the problem is holding to the Qur'aan and Sunnah according to the understanding of the Salaf.

In other words that is Salafiyyah.
I get your point, we should follow the path of the salafi ie. the Sahaba ("Companions"wink, the Tabi‘un ("Followers"wink and the Tabi‘ al-Tabi‘in ("Those after the Followers"wink. Which i completely agree.

My point is (please re-read my 1st post) is just to convey the message that we should not segregate ourselves into different sects. I am fed up seeing the disunity of muslims. Different sects always fighting with each other. The way i practice Islam may be similar to some sect that is present, but i never say i belong to that sect instead I say i belong to Islam. I hope you get the point.
IslamRe: Share Your Views About Ramadan Here by azharuddin: 9:11pm On Aug 10, 2010
Assalamuallaikum,
brothers and sisters lets try to finish reciting the whole Quran during this holy month. I ve the whole Quran as mp3 which is around 30hrs, so if we recite Quran for 1hr daily we ll be able to finish it by the end of this month. This is just an approximate calculation, some of you might be able to recite faster, some slower, but we should try. I know we all are busy with many things, BUT remember this is the month of Ramadan, the month which Quran was revealed to us. So lets all try to do our max.
IslamRe: The Salafi Dawah by azharuddin: 5:31pm On Aug 10, 2010
Muslims cannot be united except in Salafiyyah
Brother stop saying salafi(or any other sect) is the right path, instead say ISLAM is the right path. If you are confident that you are following the right path according to Quran and the Prophets (saw) sunnah, say I AM A MUSLIM (rather than calling yourself a salafi or any other sect) and say to others  ISLAM IS THE RIGHT PATH (rather than saying follow salafi or any other sect).

P.s. I am not arguing with you brother, i just expressed my opinion just like you did. I did read what you said, and when i thought about it this is what i felt. smiley

Its Ramadan,
May Allah provide You, Me and all other Muslims with health and will power to fast and do more Ibadah during this month.
Ameen.
IslamRe: The Salafi Dawah by azharuddin: 3:22am On Aug 10, 2010
Dear Brothers and Sisters. STOP DIVIDING OURSELF INTO SUNNI, SHIA, SALAFI ETC, !

Surat Aal e Imran (3:103)
And hold fast all together by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you) and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favor on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love so that by His grace ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of fire and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make his signs clear to you: that ye may be guided.

Suratal Anaam (6:159) VERILY, as for those who have broken the unity of their faith and have become sects - thou hast nothing to do with them. Behold, their case rests with God: and in time He will make them understand what they were doing.

Our Prophet (saw) had predicted the division of our religioin into different sects and he said all will go to hell except the one that follows Allah and his sunnah.

Abdullah Bin Amr   (radhiallâhu anhu) narrated that Allâh’s Messenger (sallallâhu  ‘alayhi wasallam) said, “There will befall my Ummah exactly (all those) evils which befell the people of Isra'il, so much so that if there was one amongst them who openly committed fornication with his mother,  there will be among my Ummah one who will do that; and if the people of Isra'il were fragmented into seventy-two sects[b] my Ummah will be fragmented into seventy-three sects. All of them will be in Hell Fire except one sect.[/b]” They (the Companions) said: “Allâh’s Messenger (sallallâhu  ‘alayhi wasallam), which is that?” Whereupon he said: “It is one to which I and my companions belong.”  (Tirmidhi  171)

I am not telling you to denounce the scholars, but Prophet Mohammed (saw) has said that there will come a time when people learn Islam not for the real benifit of it. So whoever teaches you anything about Islam ask for proof, and cross check yourself with Quran and Hadith.

Hudhaifah ibn  Al Yaman   (radhiallâhu anhu) narrated
that the people used to ask Allâh’s Messenger (sallallâhu  ‘alayhi wasallam) about good, but I used to ask him about evil for fear that it might overtake me. Once I said, "O Allâh’s Messenger (sallallâhu  ‘alayhi wasallam)! We were in ignorance and in evil and Allâh has bestowed upon us the present good; will there be any evil after this good?" He said, "Yes.” I asked, "Will there be good after that evil?" He said, "Yes, but it would be tainted with Dakhan (i.e. Little evil).” I asked, "What will its Dakhan be?" He said, "There will be some people who will lead (people) according to principles other than my  Sunnah (Tradition). You will see their actions and disapprove of them.” I said, "Will there be any evil after that good?" He said, "Yes, there will be some people who will invite others to the doors of Hell, and whoever accepts their invitation to it will be thrown in it (by them).” I said, "Allâh’s Messenger (sallallâhu  ‘alayhi wasallam)! Describe those people to us.” He said, "They will belong to us and speak our language.” I asked, "What do you order me to do if such a thing should take place in my life?" He said, "Adhere to the group of Muslims and their Chief.” I asked, "If there is neither a group (of Muslims) nor a chief (what shall I do)?" He said, "Keep away from all those different sects, even if you had to bite (i.e. eat) the root of a tree, till you meet Allâh while you are still in that state.”
(Bukhari 4/803 and 9/206)

Its indeed difficult time brothers and sisters, we should stand united, follow our Prophets teachings and sunnah.

Allah please guide us to the right path, protect us from going astray due to our ignorance, May Allah save us from Hell fire and place us in Heaven with our Prophet(saw) and his companions.
Ameen.

Narrated Sahl:

The Prophet said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe fasts?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "Allah said, 'All the deeds of Adam's sons (people) are for them, except fasting which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.' Fasting is a shield or protection from the fire and from committing sins. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid sexual relation with his wife and quarreling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, 'I am fasting.' By Him in Whose Hands my soul is' The unpleasant smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting."

For people who think they dont ve time. Remember we live in this world only for around 60-70 yrs, but the life after death is FOREVER. Sacrifices made in this life will certainly benifit us FOREVER.

Ibn 'Amr reported that the Prophet(S.A.W.) said, "It will be said to the companion of the Qur'aan after he has entered Paradise, 'Recite, and rise!' For every verse he recites he will rise one level (in Paradise), until he recites the last verse with him (i.e., in his memory)." (Aboo Dawood)

Here the verse doesnt mean all idolators, but the ones who disregarded the treaty back in the time of Prophet (s.a.w). Besides instead of looking at just one verse, please try to understand the verses before and after it.

An Analysis of Al-Taubah 9: 1 - 28…

Reply

I would very briefly try to explain some of the important points that need to be considered while determining the nature of the directive entailed in the referred verses of the Qur’an . Please keep in mind that the referred verses are a part of Surah Al-Taubah, which in turn has its own particular placement in the Qur’an  being preceded by Surah Al-An`aam, Al-A`raaf and Al-Anfaal. A thorough understanding of Surah Al-Taubah will obviously require an in-depth understanding of the preceding Surahs as well, as they serve as the premises on which the directives in Surah Al-Taubah are given. However, to avoid extra-ordinarily lengthy details, I shall, presently, restrict the scope of my analysis only to the evidences that are internal to Surah Al-Taubah. In case any question remains unanswered, we can then take up the analysis of the whole group of Surahs, beginning from Al-An`aam and ending at Al-Taubah.

The first point that needs to be considered is the opening of Surah Al-Taubah. The opening of the Surah may be translated as:

“A declaration of the dissolution of agreements from God and His messenger to the idolaters with whom you have made [no-war] agreements. Thus, you [O polytheists] may freely traverse in the land for four months, but know that you shall not escape God’s judgment and that God shall surely humble the unbelievers. A proclamation [should be made] to these people from God and His messenger on the day of Hajj-e-Akbar, [declaring] that God and His messenger are no longer under any obligation toward these polytheists. If you repent, [O polytheists,] it shall be better for you but if you turn your backs [paying no heed], then know that you shall not be able to escape God’s judgment. Give these rejecters the glad tidings of a painful punishment, except those polytheists who have not dishonored their treaties with you and have not aided anyone against you. With these, fulfill your treaties till the appointed term. Indeed, God loves the righteous. When the sacred months are over, slay the polytheists wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them and lie in ambush for them.” (Al-Taubah 9: 1 – 5)

The Qur’an  further says:

“How can there be any responsibility of these agreements on God and His messenger, except those with whom you made agreements at the Sacred Mosque? Thus, so long as they uphold their part of the treaty, you should uphold yours. Indeed God loves the righteous.” (Al-Taubah 9: 7)

A close look at the above verses shall suffice as evidence to the fact that the directive, “Arrest them, besiege them and lie in ambush for them” is given against those polytheists with whom the Muslims, under the leadership of the Prophet  (pbuh), had entered into an agreement and who had disregarded this agreement and aided others against the Muslims. Obviously, these qualities cannot be generalized on all the polytheists of the world.

The Qur’an  further says:

“Will you not fight against those who have broken their oaths and have conspired to banush the messenger? They were the first to attack you.” (Al-Taubah 9: 12)

Thus, a further qualification of those against whom the directive is given is that besides breaking their oaths with the Muslims, they conspired to banush the Prophet  (pbuh) and were the first to attack the Muslims. It is obvious that the referred directive implies to take action against a particular people. It cannot be generalized to the whole world and to all times to come. The Qur’an  further clarifies that the directive is mainly against those particular polytheists who were the custodians of the Haram – the Ka`bah. The Qur’an  says:

“It is not becoming for these polytheists to manage the mosques of God – being themselves witnesses on their own rejection.” (Al-Taubah 9: 17)

An important point to remember here is that, according to the Qur’an , it is the special and specific position of the Rasu’l (messengers) of Allah, which renders the rejecters among his direct addressees “themselves witnesses on their own rejection”. The Qur’an  tells us that the messengers of the Almighty, in contrast to Nabi’s (prophets), are not merely deliverers of God’s message. It tells us that a messenger of God is a sign of God’s final justice. When God sends his messenger among a people, these people are left with no excuse of rejection. The truth becomes as apparent for them as the shining sun. Consequently, if these people persist in their rejection, they are sentenced to one of the following two punishments depending upon their beliefs:

      If they are polytheists (Mushrik), they are sentenced to death, as a punishment of their rejection. The Qur’an  has presented the people of `aad, Thamud, Nooh, Lut, Musa etc. as examples of this category;
   1.

On the other hand, if these people are not polytheists, they are not sentenced to death, however they are forced to become subservient to the believers  of the messenger. The Banu Israeel, after their rejection of Jesus (pbuh)[1] were subjected to this punishment.

Keeping this brief explanation of God’s law regarding the rejecters of His Rasu’l in perspective it should be clear that the phrase ‘being themselves witnesses on their own rejection’ implies a particular people against whom the companions of the Prophet  (pbuh) are directed to take the action.

As has been mentioned above, the polytheists among the rejecters of a messenger of God are sentenced to death. The implementation of this sentence may take two forms, depending on the condition of the believers :

    *

If the believers  are very few in number and if an Islamic state has not been created, then this punishment is directly implemented by the Almighty. This implementation normally takes the form of a natural calamity, like a flood, an earthquake, a windstorm etc. This has generally been the case with the rejecters of the messengers of Allah. They were punished by nature unleashed. The Qur’an , in Surah Al-Qamar, while addressing the polytheists of Arabia , at the beginning of the Prophet ‘s ministry, has referred to some of the more known among the rejecters of the previous messengers of God and has mentioned the consequences that they were subjected to face because of their rejection. At the end of the Surah, the Qur’an  has asked the addressees of the Prophet (pbuh):

“[Why O polytheists of Arabia , would you not be punished in the same way?] Are your unbelievers better than these [previous rejecters of our messengers]? Or are you given immunity [from this punishment] in the Holy Scriptures? Do they say: We are a strong army [of men]? [Nay,] the army shall surely be routed and they shall flee turning their backs.” (Al-Qamar 54: 43 – 46)

Thus, the addressees of the Prophet  (pbuh) were warned of the consequences of their rejection from the beginning of the Prophet’s ministry. They were informed that if they persist in their rejection, they shall face the same consequences as were faced by the rejecters of the previous messengers of God.

    *

If a significant number of people accept the messenger of God and the messenger also succeeds in forming an Islamic state, then this punishment is implemented through the believers . This serves two purposes. Firstly, the rejecters are punished and secondly, the believers are tested for their truthfulness and the genuineness of their faith.

Keeping this point in perspective, if we consider Al-Taubah 9: 14 – 16, we see that these verses direct the companions of the Prophet  (pbuh) to fight the unbelievers and inform them of the reasons for this directive. Let us take a close look at these verses:

“Fight them. God shall punish them [for their rejection] through your hands. He shall humble them, grant you victory over them and shall thereby heal the spirit of the believers  and remove all rancor from their hearts… [This fighting against your own kith and kin shall be a test for the truthfulness of your belief in God.] Did you think that you would be left alone [and not tested for the truthfulness of your faith], while God has not yet determined those among you who fight [in His way] and take none as close associates except God, His messenger and the believers? [Remember that] God is aware of all your actions.”

Seen in this perspective, it should be obvious that the directives entailed in these verses are specific to the direct addressees of the Qur’an . They can, by no means, be generalized for all human beings and for all times to come.

Finally, if we look at Al-Taubah 9: 39 – 40, we shall see that in these verses, God has warned the hypocrites  and the weak among Muslims that if they do not help the Prophet  (pbuh) and fight according to God’s directives, they shall face the dire consequences of turning their backs. These verses also declare that whether the Muslims help the Prophet (pbuh) or not, God shall Himself help him and shall grant him victory over the rejecters. The Qur’an  says:

“If you do not go to war [against these rejecters], He will punish you severely and will replace you by another people [, who shall help him]. You will not harm him in any way for God [is his protector and He] has power over all things. [Thus,] if you do not help him, God [will Himself help him, as He] helped him when these rejecters drove him out, when he was only the second among the two. When they were in the cave, when he said to his companion: ‘Do not despair, indeed God is with us’. God caused His tranquility to descend upon him and strengthened him with warriors that were not visible to you and [thus] He routed the words of the rejecters and exalted the word of God. Indeed God is mighty and wise.”

The ultimate result of the fighting regarding which the believers  were being directed to participate in was also declared in this Surah. The Qur’an  declared:

“It is He, Who has sent His messenger with His guidance and the True Religion that He may exalt it above all other religions [of Arabia], however much these polytheists may detest it.” (Al-Taubah 9: 33)

In the light of the above explanation, it should be clear that the Surah and the directives entailed in it are specific not only in their address but also in their implication.

I hope this helps. In case any aspect of my answer remains unclear, please feel free in writing back to me at your own convenience.

May the Almighty guide us all to the path of His liking.
