The author of the above piece makes sense. I wonder why Jeff did not seek audience with a councillor, council chairman or governor. Asking to speak to the C-in-C is a slight on our national pride.

As rightly pointed out, Bush would not accept it if AIT went to the USA to interview him on the outcome of Katrina.

So if nigeria government meets your above criteria then it ceases to be corrupt?

India and ghana both scored 3.3 in the transparency international perception index rating for 2006. Nigeria scored a meagre 2.2. In principle, nigeria is more corrupt than india but the rating is faulty as far as i'm concerned. It is based on perception and not reality.(http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0781359.html)

And why didn't you say that "Ghana has small population but no corruption" after all we theorize there is constant electricity, water and quality education in ghana.

PoliticsRe: Why is Every Nigerian a Government Critic? by azorjiu(m): 8:18pm On Mar 01, 2007
Read the swedish history. The hardship they underwent surpasses what we are going through in nigeria today. They didn't get to where they are today by heaping loads of blames on their government.

Our problem is that instead of proffering solutions, we are quick to criticize and condemn.
PoliticsRe: Why is Every Nigerian a Government Critic? by azorjiu(m): 7:09pm On Mar 01, 2007
Nigerians are the biggest problem of nigeria.

A swedish friend once told me that going by the way nigerians sell their country, nobody would patronise them.

It is a shame that we only see the negative aspects of our government. We always hope for the worst and when our wishes come true we start screaming.

We even go beyond the boundaries of criticism to the point of blackmail.

Yar’Adua may retain 10 ministers - As politicians jostle for positions
By Olawale Rasheed - 27.02.2007

DESPITE the controversy trailing the preparations for the April polls, the shape of an Umar Yar’Adua presidency is already emerging with top politicians intensifying their lobbying for appointments.

Investigations by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that an unofficial clearing house led by President Olusegun Obasanjo had been putting up a team ahead of the election to ensure continuity and sustenance of the ongoing socio-economic reforms.

It was gathered from the administration and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) showed that a tentative list of ministerial nominees from across the 36 states was almost ready while shortlisting is reportedly being done for other key appointments in the next government.

It was learnt that in many of the states, those who would be ministers were already known even though the issue had become very divisive among party chiefs.

Reports indicate that there are states which the party elders led by the president are yet to decide on who to shortlist due to the presence of two or three equally loyal party stalwarts.

In some other states, the failure of defeated gubernatorial aspirants to agree among themselves on who to nominate is reported to be stalling a final decision.

Reports further showed that 10 of the incumbent ministers were to be retained due to their performance and the need to ensure stability in the government.

A serving female Director-General of a federal agency is said to have been nominated as health minister while unconfirmed reports said Professor Charles Soludo had been tipped for the position of finance minister.

Despite repeated denials, the Nigerian Tribune was told that the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, is to emerge as the new Inspector-General of Police to effect major and fundamental restructuring of the force.

It was also learnt that a top PDP chieftain from the South-West had been tipped as the new chief of staff to replace General Abdulahi Muhammad who has been there since 1999.

Trusted party chiefs who have served the presidency since 1999 are reported to have been pencilled in for ambassadorial positions though many politicians were said to be expecting ambassadorial postings if they failed to make the ministerial list.

Nigerian Tribune findings showed that while the Yar’Adua campaign train is traversing the nation, politicians are intensifying their lobbying of the presidential campaign team, the organised private sector and the president.

Commenting on the report, the special adviser (political) to Governor Umar Yar’Adua, Mr. Bolaji Adebiyi, said it should not be surprising to anybody if there was a measure of continuity after May 29.

Adebiyi noted that since it would still be the same PDP government, some personnel were likely to be retained while others might be re-assigned.

He noted that there was nothing new in politicians making demands and lobbying for positions, adding, “that is a normal thing in politics.”

In various states, he said, there would be demands and concessions to be made, stressing that politics was about give and take.

He, however, denied that the shape of Yar’Adua’s presidency was already emerging, insisting that it was too early to draw that conclusion.

“We have covered 12 out of the 36 states and we are still moving round. We cannot conclude anything when we are yet to visit about 24 states where demands are still going to be made.

“We are engrossed in campaigns. Even if politicians are lobbying, we cannot stop them. But let me say that nothing has been concluded as to the shape of Yar’Adua’s presidency,” Adebiyi said.
Soludo as finance minister
Akunyili for health minister
Ribadu for IGP

not bad if the above comes to pass.

I have two nominations- Pat Utomi for Governor of central bank
Governor duke for minister of tourism

You guys are killing me, Kalu has been rich way before he got into politics.
Because he "came from a private driven economy" according to him.

"I have been very critic of obasanjo"
"EFCC is investigating organisation". Take me to court of competent jurisdiction, bla bla bla.

Didn't they say he is a graduate of ABSU and what's worse, he went for NYSC.
PoliticsRe: Orji Uzor Kalu's Interview On Hardtalk! by azorjiu(m): 5:09pm On Feb 18, 2007
It isn't about his spoken english (which i admit was the most incoherent piece i have ever listened to) but his answers to questions posed to him were ridiculous. He was going round the circle, making no point at all. How could you justify the 24 minutes spent on interviewing this dumb? His answers were the dumbest ever. He spent 8 years as the governor of a state and it was only few weeks ago he got facilities to remove refuse in aba. When probed a little bit further, he said Tony Blair is not responsible for the removal of refuse in Bannet. What an analogy.

And funny enough, he learnt a different way of pronouncing aba. OUK is a failure not only to the Abia people to the entire nation.
PoliticsRe: Orji Uzor Kalu's Interview On Hardtalk! by azorjiu(m): 1:39pm On Feb 18, 2007
I still fail to understand how Orji Kalu was able to convinced Abians to vote for him in 1999. He's such an incoherent clown who finds it difficult to read his budget speeches (written by someone else). He was beating about the bush throughout the interview. I'm sure the interviewer was very frustrated talking to someone that dumb. The only information he had to reveal to anxious viewers was how EFCC and obasanjo were using 'double rules'. The 24 mins spent on interviewing him was a waste.

Again, lack of knowledge in politics. Please, stop these undue alerts in this forum.
Learn some manners, shutmouth. Act your name. You don't abuse people on a public forum just because your keyboard is just in front of you.

Political Alignment and realignment we know are features of a political system. What is wrong in predicting (almost with unity probability) that the trend of events favour the ruling party which is having an influx of newcomers?

A veritable opposition, rather than what we are likely to have still remains the best for the maturity of our democracy. With recent happenings, I forsee the merger of all polical parties into one.
PoliticsAt Last, Pdp Wins by azorjiu(op): 11:48pm On Feb 15, 2007
With the defection of ANPP gubernatorial candidates to PDP, the stage seems to be set for the ruling party to sweep the pools come april. I hope there would still be some sorts of opposition lest we should drift to a one party state.

Apparently, Shagari has withdrawn with the following words "I am going to see Mr. President and whatever he says I will abide by it."

If true this development is not too healthy for the development of our democracy.

PoliticsRe: Peter Obi Back In Power by azorjiu(m): 12:05am On Feb 10, 2007
Iyke-D, spot on. Nigerians could be likened to the animals in George Orwell's animal farm. There is every reason to blame Snowball for their every travails. He ruined the wind-mill, the water wasn't tasting well because of him, he met the chickens in their dreams and aborted their eggs; for every ill luck, it was Snowball, but when the water tasted good "oh! glory be to Napoleon"

In our depraved psyche, nothing happens at random. There is a sinister motive for every action. If Obi had lost today, by now, people would have written thousands of threads to pour invectives on Obasanjo. We should learn to look a little bit above our brows before pointing accusing fingers on the usual culprit- the president.
PoliticsRe: Inec Disqualifies Atiku by azorjiu(op): 11:42pm On Feb 09, 2007
Turaki is the 'best president nigeria will never have'.

He now epitomises the long awaited Moses under whose regime nigeria will leave her Egypt.
Absolute nonesense! His main strenght now is the unfortunate situation in the niger-delta. His desparation to secure the aso-seat is both suspicious and questionable. This is the man who 'knew' so much that was going wrong, but chose not to tell nigerians. His recent 'mouth erosion' is not impressing anybody. He should go back to Adamawa to enjoy his booty. hmmm.

The following is an excerpt from the speech of His excellency, 'President-to-be', Turaki Abubakar as reported in http://www.tribune.com.ng/10022007/news/news1.html

Abubakar said that if elected, the AC would develop the Niger Delta the way the Federal Government had developed Abuja by establishing a Ministry of Niger Delta Development with an indigene of the region as Minister.

He said his administration would also review the present oil revenue allocation formula in favour of oil-bearing states and communities.

Abubakar, who paid tribute to indegenes of the area such as Isaac Adaka Boro and Ken Saro Wiwa, assured the people that if elected as president, one of his first actions in office would be to release Dokubo.
