The Tribute reported this evening that the coalition of (other) polital parties could not arrive at a consensus representative. What a shame! Why can't atiku use his number 19 and step down knowing that buhari is more saleable than him? His avarice will never allow him reason. He is not fighting for democracy. He is fighting to control the nigerian external reserve. More worrisome is this: http://www.inecnigeria.org/index.php?cateid=40&contid=264Why won't INEC leave atiku to contest and fail? |

Afam: funny enough majority of those talking about revolution are in foreign lands. and you know why they want revolution? definitely not because of their love for nigeria. it is because they want foreign passports. they will all run to the home office to claim asylum! none of them will come to nigeria to fight the war. "let us fight, let us not be afraid, let us shed our blood, let us this, let us that". And when the gun goes bang, we all run for shelter abroad. |

jigawa= PDP abhosts: I am in Ibadan Presently and I can say authoritatively that Obasanjo is the greatest disaster that has ever happened to Nigeria. Thugs were having a filled day during the voting process, going around killing and maiming Innocent voters, while the police looked the away. Despite all the intimidation, voters voted massively for The ANPP candidate, Abiola Ajimobi.
However, the whole state was thrown into a sober mood, when PDP\'s INEC Announce that Akala won the election. If this result is allowed to stand, we might as well give up on democracy. how did you know the trend the votes went?. did you interview over a million people that voted yesterday. only inec has the figure of how the voting went. my advise it that those who feel aggrieved should go to election tribunal. |

In 2003 elections, the EU- EOM gave the verdict below. 4 years later, are there any improvements? EU Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Nigeria - 2003 Summary:
* The Presidential and a number of Gubernatorial Elections were marred by serious irregularities and fraud – in a certain number of States, minimum standards for democratic elections were not met. * EU EOM observers witnessed and obtained evidence of widespread election fraud in certain States. Many instances of ballot box stuffing, changing of results and other serious irregularities were observed in Cross River, Delta, Enugu, Kaduna, Imo and Rivers. The elections in these States lack credibility and appropriate measures must be taken by the relevant authorities. * Similar irregularities were observed to a lesser extent in a number of other States, including Anambra, Benue, Edo, Katsina and Nassarawa. These incidents undermined the integrity of the electoral process in these States. Irregularities should be thoroughly investigated and addressed by the appropriate authorities without delay. * In many other States in the country and in particular in the South-West (including Lagos), elections were reported as by and large orderly and improvements were noted in the distribution of election material, the timely opening of polling stations and, in some places, the secrecy of the vote. Nevertheless, also in these States, substantial flaws and weaknesses remain, e.g. with voter lists, ballot distribution and safeguards against multiple voting. * Delayed and repeated polls for the National Assembly Elections were not conducted in a transparent and credible manner. A countrywide breakdown of results by polling station would enhance the credibility of the process. * Federal and State-owned media failed to live up to their legal obligation to provide equal access and fair coverage of all political parties and demonstrated political bias in favour of the ruling parties at Federal and State level. Private broadcasters and print media provided greater coverage of opposition parties; editorial policy was however influenced by commercial imperatives and led to unbalanced treatment of candidates. * The EU EOM notes that once again there was a generally peaceful conduct of the elections. It encourages all stakeholders to actively contribute to a peaceful environment and urges aggrieved parties to resort only to legal remedies through the judiciary. http://ec.europa.eu/comm/external_relations/human_rights/eu_election_ass_observ/nigeria/2stat.htm |

In 2003, the results were released rather early. Could still remember that Odili was declared the winner before the election was concluded in Rivers. I'm surprised the results are not yet out 3 hours after the election. debosky: @ azo like Obj said they 'allowed' APGA that state in the spirit of democracy,
he ordered his party to 'donate' some states to the opposition. what arrogance Imo people appreciate Obj's gift. President Ahmadinejad of Iran did same a while ago. He release UK marines as a gift to the UK. Joke apart, Imo is better off without Ararume. God used the disunity in PDP to rescue the good people of Imo. |

On the other hand, i read somewheere that at different polling booths, AC people were telling people that Agbaje had stepped down for fashola and that was why his picture was missing. It is unfair and it is not right. The interview on NTA and CHannels with Agbaje show that he was just as shocked at the development since he had submitted his pictures to INEC. i earnestly empathise with him. poor him! he would have won the election but for this omission. |

When I first read that the supreme court had stopped pdp from substituting the name of Ararume, my reaction was "Oh God! why are you doing this to us". Ararume is not fit to be a governor. Not in my state. Anybody but Ararume. He is a thug extraordinaire, a nobody who wasted his time and that of his constituency in the senate.
All you guys fronting for him now, what did he do as a senator other than praising OBJ and insisting on invincibility of pdp? Why all the love you are now showing for him? Is he not one of the pdp "rogues" you have been threatening to vote out? I can see your problem is not with individuals in pdp. It is with the name PDP. |

Please don't reduce this argument to pro or anti third term as Ararume himself was a front line supporter of third term. I don't understand how long people will keep refering to third term. I don't understand either. The reference to the failure of third term as the cause of every spit is regretable. I can't wait for may 29th to come and go. Back to the dismissal of ararume, I respect pdp for this singular resolve. I wept for my dear state when he won at the SC. He is a thug at best, who should be in Ariara market and not the government house of Imo. Pdp Una well done! |

Atiku won’t be allowed to contest - FG insists
Lanre Adewole, Abuja with Agency Report - 06.04.2007
THE Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN), has said that Vice President Atiku Abubakar stands disqualified from contesting the 2007 presidential election by virtue of the two judgments delivered on Tuesday.
Ojo also condemned the various interpretations given to the judgments on the constitutional power of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify a candidate from contesting an election.
“Judgments of the court, particularly on Atiku, have turned to a football analysis, everybody is now free to interpret it the way he/she likes ,’’ he said yesterday, while addressing a news conference in Abuja.
He particularly kicked against the interpretation given to the two judgments by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Olisa Agbakogba (SAN), to the effect that Atiku had been cleared to contest the election.
Ojo said that as the chief law officer of the country, the judgment of the Federal High Court Abuja and that of the Court of Appeal were clear and unambiguous.
He added that Atiku’s case challenging the report of the Federal Government administrative panel of enquiry and the report of the EFCC, which indicted him, was still pending in court.
He said that the judgment of the Lagos State High Court, which purportedly quashed the two reports, was on appeal and had yet to be decided by the Court of Appeal.
“The position of the law is clear that when a case is on appeal, the status quo remains,’’ he said. Ojo said that the judgment of the Court of Appeal was superior, being a court of superior jurisdiction to the Federal High Court.
When asked to respond to the NBA’s position on the matter, Ojo said “everybody is free to interpret the constitution. It is only the court that interprets the law. I’m the chief law officer and custodian of the law, so whatever anybody says is his business. The order is still being challenged and this does not mean the disobedience of the order.”
Prodded further over the status of Atiku on eligibility, Ojo said “what I have said on this matter is very clear. The matter is still in court. The order is still being challenged. Even the Court of Appeal judgment is being challenged, so there is nothing confusing about it.” http://www.tribune.com.ng/06042007/news/news1.htmlNigerian law is two difficult that nobody can interpret it. But it seems the judgement of the higher court stands. Atiku is disqualified unless the supreme court says otherwise. |

His earlier victory has amounted to nullity.
INEC has the power to disqualify and Atiku stands disqualified. |

PDP is in court seeking an order compelling inec to conduct elections as earlier scheduled. This indicates the readiness of the ruling party to transit power May 29th. The SUN banner headline is titled FG KILLED ADEFARATI. At the age of 79 (or 76 as reported by some dailies), I don't think he was killed. He got involved in rigorous campaigns which overwhelmed him.
