coogar: what's the best tactic to win? do you aim for the short words(2 to 3 lettered word) and spell as many as possible or do you just read the board and go for the giant words? i study for 50 secs before i start spelling - i do a maximum of 7-12 words but those words cop massive points.

The best tactic to win is LONG WORDS. Short words? Waste of time! A big enough word can actually earn you over 200 points; at once. However, my eyes just never pin them down. Dunno what the deal is. "As" "an" "to" are nothing compared to the potential points "BALANCING" can earn you.

Study for 50 secs? That sounds good. I just jump right at it.

coogar: i let them win the first round before i bring out the pitbull in me........i am not a nice person.

i think we should let people practise very well before the tournament. we can do the tournament on saturday and sunday.....

Of course! I want everyone to bring their A games. It will be unfair to start anytime soon. The game requires a bit of practice.

arbitrage: You tried but there is an error when you got to the point of using quadratic equation on the variable z.

(z-1)(-z²-4z-1) = 0

z should have given you 1, -2+2√3 and -2-2√3

From these values of z, you will get y to be:
y=1, 8(2+√3), 8(2-√3).

Just check your quadratic equation of z to confirm. Thank you.
