Politics › Re: Aturu Slams Fashola On Lagos Fire Comment by babestella: 10:10am On Dec 29, 2012
Why linking ban of firecrackers with ban on Okada or other traffic laws. It has no connection in any way. No one has ever criticized the ban of firecrackers in the state. Fire crackers has always been banned every Xmas season, and no one complains. So why if our governor Fash linking the fire incident to criticism from the opposition on other socio-political matters in the state.

If firecrackers are still sold in our country during festive seasons, I think the government has failed in her responsibility to protect and to screen every item that is being brought into this country. To me, looking for the importers are way over board, the Nigerian customs should be sanctioned in this regards.

This is to all recently sacked Fidelity staffs, please take heart, and prepare to start something new in 2013, this is an opportunity for you to jump start your ideas. Fidelity have sacked you, but they can stop your moving forward. The sack is not the end of the road or life. Pray and plan well, and soon the bank will beg you to be their customer.

It is quite a sad news to end 2012. I don't know why they had to give people sad news during a season of rejoicing. Our leaders and managers are just the same. Early this year, the best new year gift from the government was an increase in fuel pump price, now our managers in the corporate world have followed the trend.

Well, I wish you well, and may God guide you all into your glorious future in 2013.

This driver should have been sacked because traveling further to PH from Owerri at that time of the day despite warnings from the passengers? I think it is a set up by the driver himself, he has a share in the loot and he should have been investigated. If ABC did not do anything about it, then people better stop risking their lives boarding ABC to any part of the country.

Islam › Re: How An American Lady Converted To Islam by babestella: 10:31am On Dec 26, 2012
tbaba1234: I was thinking of starting a thread on the strangest revert stories, I guess id just put them here:

i. First guy to comment on an Islamic youtube video, debates with muslims on youtube for pages and pages. Similar to some Nairaland guys. All of a sudden, there was a break... The next time, he was heard from, he had taken his shahada. Why? He said that he read the last sermon of the prophet on mount Arafat. He knew the prophet could not have been a liar. Took his shahada, became muslim.

Don't give up hope on people. The strangest people can become muslim.

ii. Atheist, fond of going to religious (muslim) events to debate with the speakers e.t.c. Once he went to an event where a sheik (can't remember the name now) was speaking, as usual he gets up to address the speaker. The speaker gives him a gem from the Quran that stumped him. He wanted to prove it wrong so he kept researching and researching to prove it wrong. He couldn't. According to him, he literally submitted in the real sense of the word.

Even the most obnoxious people could also see the truth.

iii. Gang member, gets into a fight with his mother... runs to the library because he felt that was the only place the police will not look for him. Picks up any book to read from the shelf, He happened to pick a translated copy of the Quran. In the library, He read the whole of the Quran and according to him : I was not reading it, it was reading me. He took his shahada and became muslim.

Allah guides whom he wills, even the worst of the worst can be guided.

iv. Wall street woman from Japan, walks to a muslim store where a muslim man was playing the recitation of the Quran . She was enchanted by it and asked : what kind of music it was?. Man tells her it was the Quranic recitation. She asked where she can get them. Man directs her to the store, she goes there, picks a copy of the translated Quran. Reads it, takes shahada. She quit wall-street and became the principal of an Islamic school started by Nouman Ali khan.

Allah is the best of planners, Nothing happens accidentally.

v. Another man from wall street, reads up on the Islamic economic system and take shahada. Didn't listen to a long lecture or read the Quran. He said that the Islamic system is too ethical not to be from God. That was all.

Allah has given us the best way to live our lives ethically... Some of us do not even acknowledge the favour.

vi. Christian youth minister, studies the bible in hebrew. Too many questions unanswered by christianity. He lost his faith in christianity , once he went to the mosque, took a copy of the Quran. All the dots were connected for him, all the things he read in the bible finally added up. He took his shahada. He is currently one of the famous proponents of Islam in the US.

Sometimes, all you need is a proper intellectual study to become muslim.

More stories to come, InshaAllah
Allah has given us the best way to live our lives ethically... Some of us do not even acknowledge the favour.

Mr. Poster, I refer to your paragraph above.

Note: the Bible answers all questions about humanity and how we should live our lives according to the WILL of God Almighty.

I don't know where you got your " so many questions unanswered by Christianity". One thing I can tell you is that God doesn't want us to go about asking HIM questions, HE only wants us to believe in HIM. The Bible says that "whosoever believeth in the HIM shall have eternal life" so what answer are you looking for again? What questions are you asking God?

Just believe in GOD and you will have peace in your mind and peace will be upon this earth, violence will stop, love will flourish for we exist and live everyday by HIS GRACE, no man can live on his own.
Politics › Re: LASTMA Officers Kill Bus Driver In Lagos; Man Beaten To Coma by babestella: 9:17pm On Dec 25, 2012
emiye: it is easy to criticize, May the soul of the driver RIP, but why evade arrest from a law enforcement agency ?, can he do that with a police man ?. Those LASTMA take laws in to their hands most times simply because motorists rarely respects them, i think it is high time they are given guns possibly with rubber bullets.

I don't envy those doing the LASTMA jobs. I am a realist, how do you enforce arrest with a stubborn driver ?, if not with force. I saw an incident last week, where a huge driver fought vigorously with FRSC team in a bid to evade arrest and tried in a road site court.
You sound very silliy and visionless with your comments. Anyway, any day LASTMA is armed with weapons and rubber bullets, the first victim will be your relative so we see how you will react to this, then you will know that even rubber bullets can kill at close range. Your suggested solution to problems are dumb and very silly, please get some leadership training and stop showing us how ignorant you are.

Are you telling me that there are no other strategies that can be employed in arresting drivers who violate traffic rules, must it be by strife and end in death? As we all know, uniformed men in Nigeria are all over zealous and totally inclines to monetary extortion, that is the only motive behind an officer trying to take someone's vehicle by force. Please those officers should be properly screened and re-orientated. A lot of agberos in LASTMA and this poses a big risk both to drivers and passengers of commercial vehicle.

No matter what happened. It can never justify violence. Big Brother Amplified Star Karen Igho was a victim last night as she got slapped by a security guard at the Smirnoff Midnight Circus party last night.

Read her tweets below and see for yourself:

@Karen_Igho: Wow I got slapped at a smirnof party, by a security guard!!! is it because I’m a woman?

@Karen_Igho: He loaded his gun and put it to my face at the car park, Said he will shoot me if I don’t give him money..I said I didn’t have. He slap me!!

@Karen_Igho: Now my face is swollen and I’m in pain!!

@Karen_Igho: All I wanted to do was to go support my friend @DENRELE_EDUN who hosted the event

@Karen_Igho: Wow I got slapped at a smirnof party, by a security He loaded his gun and put it to my face at the car park,he wanted money and I didn’t have any on me then he slapped me.still in shock and pain

@Karen_Igho: I feel abused and hurt

@Karen_Igho: The slap sent me landing on the floor and hitting my head

@Karen_Igho: My team are on this

@Karen_Igho: Called my lawyer

@Karen_Igho: Even my father has never slapped me like this and the loading of the gun to shoot me wow am in shock

@Karen_Igho: I know I have a good heart but I won’t let this go with out fighting for justice cos he might do it to someone else

How sad! And some people on twitter to my surprise, deemed it fit to mock her despite the incident, especially ladies.
I wonder what Nigeria is turning into if we now rejoice over violence. Over someone’s pain and sorrow. *sighs*

Car Talk › Re: How Toyota Engines Are Re-built In Ladipo by babestella: 12:42pm On Dec 15, 2012
tampa1871: These guys ingenuity is highly commendable, my only problem with them is FULL DISCLOSURE, they should disclose to customers that these engines are REBUILT and allow them to make a decision whether to buy Tokunbo or their REBUILT engine. In western world, rebuilt engines are as good as brand new. I'm glad these guys are doing these. Even, rather than buying a new engine, why not rebuild what u have.
The issue here is this,

1. do they still sell the rebuilt engines at the prices of the original aluminum engines? Or they sell it cheaper.

2. Are they rebuilding the engines with criminal intent or just to make the engines affordable to people who can't afford to pay the 350k for the original toks engine. Mind you all, we are talking about toks engine here and not brand new as I have seen some comments.

3. Do the engines work perfectly after installation or develops issues which are total unsolvable?

This is my take, I think they are only trying to make the engines affordable, but if for reasons otherwise, it is criminal.

If we can find answers to this questions, then it means that since we can rebuild engines here, then we can actually build a car as far as we input legitimate ideas and full disclosure of contents and intents.

Cars that come from china are assembled with parts from different parts of the globe, the chinese man don't come out to tell you that the engine is half cast iron and half aluminum, they only tell you the engine is good and can last for you.

I think we should explore the positive side of being able to rebuild an engine totally rather than criminalizing it.

I have seen where the Chinese refurbish 3.5 liter Nissan Diesel engines, couple it with brand new radiators, and exhaust system and alternator to make up a 18KV generator, and they sell it and it works very well and they give you warranty on it.

ANYWAYS, BUYERS BEWARE. CHECK WELL AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING ANY EQUIPMENT IN NIGERIA.

olas2u: The real engine of growth is small scale businesses and they dont borrow them money. Most businesses dont spread or go beyond Aba or Nnewi, lagos, kano because they dont have support which is finance to grow.
Yes, you are right. With SLS new regulations, banks find it difficult to give small unsecured loans which sometimes are fast catalyst to business growth and turnover, won't blame SLS on the banking regulations too, our Nigerian businessmen are funny with money too, once you loan them money, they first buy a luxury car, marry a new wife or send here children abroad. Loan recovery becomes very difficult. But back in the days, banks were taking the risk, and as you know amongst every 12, there is alway a judas. No pain, no gain. No risk, no growth. I think the banks regulatory policies should be overhauled to allow credits and I believe with proper evaluation of customers loan request & business plan, loans can be recoverable.

Well, for now, the banks are not doing well for sure, I think they have not been creative lately, just recycling very old ideas. If they can think, they. Will stop treating ladies rudely by setting unachievable targets. When a bank has good agenda and products and services, customer friendly services, customers will naturally come in. SLS should be working with the banks in that direction.
