you are doing all the right things. People dont seem to appreciate how much fluid you lose even with the slightest fever. Eating well gives the viruses the chance to live out their own life quicker. Good hydration, vitamins and carbohydrate is all you need. There is an obsession for antibiotics even in the uk. They now have problems with methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus known as MRSA.

The medical course is an easy course. Medicine itself is all common sense. Remember common things are common. The problem students find with medicine is the volume of work. I have a daughter who is doing medicine at the moment in Edinburgh University. That is her main complaint. Medical students seem to remember the rare causes of illnesses without mentioning the common things. Read little and often and dont leave it until the week before the exams
Health › Re: Telemedicine-what are the benefits for Nigeria by Balogun(m): 11:00pm On Dec 07, 2005
Telemedicine is a great area that might help a large country like Nigeria. You however need advancement in technology to achieve this. Regular electricity is important and ability to service the equipment being used. I don't think we are ready for this yet. I feel we still need to get the basics of health and health education sorted out first. It might be ideal in some private hospital who have satellite units. Nurses can show doctors in the main centre things for interpretation via video conferencing (telemedicine). Try not to confuse this with robotic surgery, which is even more advanced. There is a company in Glasgow, Scotland that deal with this and sort out the NHS in UK.

Sophies World and all books written by Jostein Gaarder gives you a full philosophical look on life. A lot of books written by Ian McEwan starting with Cement Garden. A lot of the African authors mentioned. Some of the Carribean authors e.g VS Naipul. Kane and Abel is such a sub standard book written by a sub standard author with a sub standard plot.

Soulful, the list of books you have put down are fantastic books. Unfortunately too many philistines on this particular subject. Most things discussed are commercial/travel books suitable for ......... taste. We need to start asubject on intellectual readings!! grin

Romance › Re: Where Are All the Good Nigerian/African Men? by Balogun(m): 9:14pm On Nov 30, 2005
My main problem is finding a good african/nigerian woman. Each time I meet a nigerian woman, I am never sure what they are after in life. They never seem to be straight forward and you spend yoyr second guessing. Or is that all women in general!!! smiley Like most things in life the bad nigerian people always makes things bad for the good ones. Good luck to that woman

It is funny how women manage to set the agenda as to how they should be satisfied. I am still waiting for the 5 things on a man's list!! A few things spring to mind. Common boys, lets make our own list
TV/Movies › Re: Americans Don't Watch Nigerian Movies? by Balogun(m): 2:17pm On Nov 07, 2005
Having lived in the united kingdom for more than half my life I recently came in contact with nigerian movies. The acting was so bad, the production was awful, the story line was lame, however I watched it because ...... I dont know. The reason why nigerian movies are not going to make it is the lack of artistic licence. Films from Mali and Burkina Faso have artistic licence and culture. They are set in rural villages. The nigerian one I watched was about a spoilt daughter who was interested in driving her mercedes. A storyline set in ijebu or calabar with local music and dances would interest me more. I have white friends that sit for hours watching the christening ceremony of my daughter done in nigeria with a juju band in the evening. We have good cinematography. We should develop the culture first and then worry about making the money after. Unfortunately like most things in Nigeria, its lets make money first!!!!
Christianity Etc › Re: What Church Do You Attend? by Balogun(m): 10:10pm On Nov 03, 2005
I am proud of not attending any churches. My main belief is the goodness of man. If I ever need to have belief I would practice it in the privacy of my own home. Remember as a child we had morning prayers without the need to go and holler with one and all and felt blessed by it. There are three things that always causes wars in this world politics, religion and football! The cynic in me still says religion in Nigeria is a multimillion naira industry. Its like gambling in Nevada
Christianity Etc › Re: Nigeria and Its Church Phenomenom by Balogun(m): 5:23pm On Oct 26, 2005
from all i have read that you have written so far from layi, i am of the mind you are a pastor or related to a pastor. this must be the reason why you feel blessed by the mugs that donate to you. religion is all in the mind. what people in nigeria need is morality and fairness to their fellow human being. not much to ask in this world.
Christianity Etc › Re: What Church Do You Attend? by Balogun(m): 11:11am On Oct 26, 2005
maybe one day the mugs that contribute to churches like layi will have the scales come from their eyes. churches are not our true religion. it is something brought over by the slave traders of the west. we need to go back to our own religion if we are that interested. nigerians are obsessed about religion. dont particularly see it myself

Not very familiar with nigerian dignitaries, what difference does it make when they die. The people who mourn the dead are the relatives of the dead. What was stella obasanjo who I had never heard of before doing having an operation in a non english speaking country. I work as a doctor in the uk and I know a lot of top doctors in the uk and usa of nigerian origin. What is the full fact about this.
Christianity Etc › Re: What Church Do You Attend? by Balogun(m): 12:31pm On Oct 19, 2005
Funny thing about this church business. I heard a year or so ago some pastor in London, nigerian off course was celebrating his birthday party for which he hired a 5* hotel, had special guests with bill running into hundreds of thousands. What has that got to do with religion. Yet nigerians flock to this church and hand over their money to this man. Wish i had that gift of talk to make people part with their money that easy. Morality is what nigerians need and not religion. I dont go to church, I keep moral standards and help fellow human beings
Christianity Etc › Re: What Church Do You Attend? by Balogun(m): 9:27pm On Oct 18, 2005
Never been able to understand nigerians obsession with what is not their natural religion. We are even more religious than those that introduced us to religion. The only thing that is important is morality. This is something absent in most nigerians, explaining obsession with religion. What have we benefited from those that brought us religion. Civil war, strife, diseases, corruption.......... need i go on

Go for it. Many a good relationship have been started by women making the first move. If she waited for you to make a move, she would be an old woman by the time you do.

Appreciate the fact that boys and men usually need some space. Depends on how you feel for him. Ultimatums just makes boys realise your desperation. Chill out and make your own social life

Went to boarding school in Dublin. Fantastic. Enjoyed the regimented life. Enjoyed the sports and the camaraderie that went on. You make boarding school whatever you want it. You need to be confident to avoid the bullying.
