@All 2pac-Is-Overrated Theorists I challenge you to study his lyrics closely and tell me he doesn't make much more sense than the crap we're forced to listen to nowadays?? One of the probs with you lot is this . . . legends ain't recognized/celebrated well enough until they die . . . when they die, folks get to study their works very well . . . upon realising that they deserved more praise than they got while alive, they begin to give them what they actually deserved before they died . . . their posthumous rating is not in any way bigger than what they deserved when alive . . . Whilst alive, they were underrated . . . in death, they become properly rated . . . An example is Nas . . . a lot of folks be underrating his stuff right now . . . when he dies, he'll be immortalised . . . folks would then begin to shower praises due to him while alive . . . Tell me how that equates overrating ![]() Can we move on How about Prince, Britney Spears, Ashlee Simpson, etc for a change?? ![]() |
eldee:CNN, CNN, and more CNN . . . that's what we hear err'time Eldee's talking . . . ![]() I also watch CNN . . . but I don't base my judgments on what CNN shows me . . . G-Unit apparel . . . vest with Eminem's face . . . blah blah blah . . . I also saw a movie a couple of years back where some American dude was wearing a vest with Fela's face . . . this is insignificant to what we're talking about . . . If wearing vests with rappers' names on 'em is the issue here . . . 2pac would still win hands down . . . I'm yet to see a rapper that has more vests with his face/name inscribed on them than 2pac. Apart from "U Can't Touch This" (MC Hammer) in that list, "In Da Club", "Mo' Money Mo' Probs", "Gettin' Jiggy With It", "Real Slim Shady", "I'll Be Missing You" . . . all these are not as popular as "California Love", "Hit 'Em Up" and "Dear Mama" . . . Oh, so Mo' Money Mo' Problems is Lemon Plus ad . . . I'm thrilled . . . WWF WrestleMania 2000's theme song is largely based on 2pac's "California Love" . . . letz not even talk about remixes and movie references . . . "Changes" is the only posthumous song to be nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance at the Grammy Awards (nominated in 2000) . . . Eminem's "Quitter" is partly a remix of "Hit Em Up" . . . "Dear Mama" presented an introspective 2pac and made him much more accepted by the whole world, even critics, for its clean message . . . check a lot of "Top Rap Songs" lists . . . it ranks in the first 10 . . . Heavens . . . "California Love" would be in the Top 5 most popular rap songs of all times . . . "Hit 'Em Up" is the most popular diss track of all times . . . "Dear Mama" inspired a culture of rappers releasing songs to eulogise their moms . . . What are you . . . ?? |
eldee:You see the problem with you is that you can't debate any issue without referring to CNN . . . Seems it's only from CNN that you get all your information . . . Are you kidding me Pac's popularity can't be determined by CNN . . . he was popular before Rap Music became accepted well enough to earn a slot on CNN . . . times have changed . . . we now live in an era where you lot judge a rapper's skills by showmanship and swagga . . . plus the razzmatazz the media would have us believe . . . Pac lived in the Medieval Era of Rap Music . . . an era when peops used to visit music stores to buy CDs, unlike nowadays when folks cop albums online . . .Unlike 50 Cent, you can mention Eminem's name after 2Pac's when popularity's the issue . . . of course Eminem is popular . . . but then still not as popular as 2pac . . . You need to hear yourself talk . . . TV broadcasts were interrupted to show Eminem's new video in the UK . . . so what . . . in the UK bruv . . . where else if not UK How could Pac have gotten that . . . in Pac's days Gangsta Rap was anathema in the UK . . . plus they only had Vanilla Ice and other white homo rappers (although even then I can assure you some white folks used ta play Pac's songs when the whole neighbourhood was asleep. Ask Methodman - he said it in one of the skits on the "Blackout!" album) . . .Eminem burst on the scene after 2pac died and the white community was very glad that they finally had a real rapper . . . unlike the gay rappers they used to have . . . and even with all the acceptance, Em's still not as popular as 2pac . . . the name 2pac is more than a brand . . . it's a force . . . what d'you think inspired names like 2face, 2shotz, 2phat, etc Heck, if you're an artiste in this internet age and you ain't popular, you need to relocate to another planet . . . the world is now a global village . . . that was not so in Pac's time . . . he got popular through a gradual process . . . by consistently doing really well what he knew how to do best . . . Pac is big in a mass number of circles in the US outside Hip Hop circles . . . in schools, political circles, Hollywood, even churches . . . they all recognize 2pac and acknowledge what he stands for. And cut that bullcrap bout his work being studied . . . Nas is neither dead nor popular and there are courses on him tooYou need to quit these alcohol-sodden babbles . . . I mentioned the fact that Pac's work's being studied just to show that he left a legacy . . . it was in answer to what one joker said about him not having any legacy . . . it was a statement of fact . . . and I wasn't comparing him to Nas when I said that . . . of course I know Nas' work's being studied too . . . and it's because they're both poetic, deep and great rappers with good lyrics . . . if Pac had no lyrics as you lot claim, what would schools be studying about his works Another punch to your misdirected reasoning ![]() You lot keep talking B.S in here . . . so the fact that Eminem headlines rock concerts, Hov's got Glastonbury and has over 30mil google hits . . . those factors make them more popular than 2pac Blazing cyclones . . . we're talking 'bout a rapper who made Rap Music itself popular . . . a rapper whose name is synonymous with Rap Music . . . a rapper who paved the way for newbies like Eminem and Kanye West to gain acceptance with the genre of music they do . . . I don't care if Jay-Z has the key to the city of Glastonbury or Eminem becomes the mayor of Detroit . . . mention Rap Music and tell me whose name first pops up in yo' mind ![]() This is the thundering limit . . . Eminem using his popularity to keep Pac's name alive?? . . . bruv, you used to be more intelligent than all these crap, what's the schitzo![]() Talkin' 'bout everyday names, 2pac is more than a name . . . more of a force . . . you don't see him on E! What about MTV BET Is E! the only station you subscribed for (Oops, sorry I forgot CNN . . . ) . . . Anyways, A-40's already given you a befitting reply to that one . . .Bob Marley is a force to reckon with in Reggae . . . so because he doesn't appear on E! and doesn't headline shows, Maxi Priest and Wayne Wonder are more popular than he is Are you high off burnt paper![]() Rock shows my butt . . . you lot need to check your dictionaries for the meaning of "Popularity" . . . cos, going by your strange definition, even Soulja Boy is more popular than 2pac . . . ![]() |
Raging cyclones in a million avalanches . . . what's going on here All physiotherapists ought to prescribe NL to their patients . . . ![]() iice, I replied . . . ![]() I'm holding ma ribcage in frenzied laughter . . . ![]() BTW, where's that Ajadrage sef?? |
Lala, add "Collabo" and "Swagga 101" to your list . . . I tried too, didn't I?? . . . ![]() |
Well . . . all's fair in love and war right But can she really sing . . . ![]() Beyonce/Mariah/Rihanna . . . 7-Up Bottling Co musta had this discussion in mind when they coined their motto . . . the difference between Madonna and these divas is as clear as a pikestaff . . .Madonna takes her exploitation of sex and erotic themes to feverish heights . . . she even makes use of religious themes . . . Tell me what sells more than Sex and Religion ![]() |
Aiight . . . since focus has now shifted . . . and we're kinda clowning . . . . . . Letz flip da script . . . d'you think she would've sold that much or been accepted that much if not for her erotic/sexual themes/image ![]() |
~Sauron~:Those circumstances have since fizzled out . . . kudos to peops like Louis Farrakhan (who sued for peace in 1997 and the feud was ended) . . . mothers of both cats (Ms Shakur and Ms Wallace) who made a public peace pact at MTV Music Video Awards in 1999 . . . these circumstances ended more than a decade ago . . . Heavens, the same circumstances shoulda made Pac's fortunes dwindle . . . Deathrow collapsed after the beef . . . Bad Boy witnessed a significant decline in fortunes . . . signifying that the beef sent tha wrong signals . . . Raging thunderstorms . . . atimes I even argue with dudes who say it was a coastal war . . . the war was kicked off by Tim Dog who released "F**k Compton" . . . a song that triggered responses from Snoop and tha Doggpound, Dr Dre, and several other West Coast cats . . . the real beef between Pac and Big was following Pac's shooting at a recording studio . . . the media only escalated it into a coastal war . . . and you're forgetting that cats like Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Lady of Rage, etc who shoulda be in the forefront denounced it . . . Dre and Nas (leaders from both coasts) both termed it unnecessary whilst it lasted . . . Nas even squashed the beef with Pac before he died . . . Nobody likes beef. Nobody gets celebrated for beef. A lotta peops blame Pac and label him a thug cos of the beef . . . he sent tha wrong signals . . . he's not being celebrated cos of the beef . . . he's not even being celebrated out of pity cos he was killed . . . but cos he was dope. So many hit songs kept rattling the airwaves after his death . . . he was an enigma. Pac and Biggie remain reverred in the Hip Hop World today cos they were legends . . . not cos of the East Coast/West Coast rivalry . . . especially Pac as he kept churning out hit song after hit song long after he died . . . Hell, this thread ain't 'bout Pac . . . you dudes are even the ones overrating him . . . you keep talkin' bout him . . . ![]() Can we talk about . . . erm . . . Madonna ![]() |
2face is miles ahead of Faze . . . and I'm talkin' skills, not popularity ![]() |
Muki, I'm back . . . ![]() Where do you always get these your artefacts from ![]() iice, how're you? |
A-40: . . . Moreso bearing in mind that it's gonna be Good Friday . . . instead of Fiddy, err'one would be talkin' 'bout someone who died more than 2,000 years ago . . . Jesus . . . ![]() |
~Sauron~:From the fans of R'n'B, Reggae, Salsa, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Funk, Soul, all over the world . . . to the strict fans of Fuji, Juju, Akpala, Highlife etc in the remotest parts of Africa . . . and the fans of all the other genres of music not herein mentioned . . . peops who don't give a lean hoot about Rap Music . . . they all know 2pac . . . he's as popular as Rap Music itself. Mention Rap Music anywhere and even you'll admit that the name "2pac" immediately comes to mind . . . mention 50 Cent and a lotta peops woulda think it's a currency. 50 Cent is not even anywhere close to Eminem in terms of popularity. I am not Papa Ajasco. Jokes section ke??You're not utilising your talent . . . I know you're clowning . . . why're you pretending ![]() |
@A-40 I simply chose to ignore Sauron since it's obvious he's clowning . . . how can someone who ain't joking compare 50 Cent and 2pac in terms of popularity You're right on the Bob Marley/Michael Jackson/Beatles analogy . . . comparing 50 Cent to 2pac going by popularity is worse than comparing Jim Iyke with Denzel Washington.Go to Botswana and mention 50 Cent . . . they'll most prolly think you're talking about currency . . . I wonder why I don't get to see Sauron's posts in the Jokes Section . . . ![]() |
@dejiariyo ![]() @Topic Added to my first list of Eminem (skilled but way overrated) and 50 Cent (no skills, yet overrated) are: Fabolous (boring/sub-par rapper with Bad Boy's clout) Ma$e (P.Diddy was in a rush to fill the void caused by Biggie's death . . . thank God he's a pastor now) Loon (how on earth did he hit the airwaves ) P.Diddy (surprisingly, he had a sudden rush of inspiration on Biggie's "Victory" ![]() Lil' Wayne (Dear Lord . . .!) Does anyone still think Soulja Boy is a rapper ![]() |
@Eldee I said Pac raps about everyday issues and he does not try to impress anyone with wordplay . . . where did you get your deduction from Who even started rating Rap Music based on wordplay, metas, etc Pac's style was more about Subject Matter, and the right words to get any theme he touches across . . . no thrills or frills . . . I know you understand what I'm saying. What can't you and I relate with in "Against All Odds"?? A dude raps about how irked he is with some other dudes . . . and you can't relate with that How hilarious can you be on this topic![]() Extra hype after death . . . you see that's the problem with you lot . . . you automatically believe that an artiste should be totally forgotten after his demise . . . any remembrance of him and you lot cry blue murder . . . how has Pac been overrated since he died That's what I'm asking you . . . Eazy-E and the rest that I listed - why not letz consider that for starters . . . tell me those are also overrated . . . Pac is being celebrated cos he was dope . . . does the world celebrate wackness![]() Hehehe . . . I don't understand the bit about "taking things too serious" . . . of course I knew you were clowning all along . . . ![]() @Sauron Pac's music was too political?? "Only God Can Judge"?? "Holla At Me"?? "Can't C Me"?? "All Eyez On Me"?? "Until The End Of Time"?? All those are political Gosh . . . why can't you lot just defend your points reasonably Most of the political stuff Pac did was in "2pacalypse Now" . . . did you stop listening to his music after that![]() How can you say peops in Botswana and Switzerland will know 50 cent and not Pac Internet Don't tell me you think "California Love", "Changes" and such other anthems from Pac became popular via the internet Mentioning Rakim, NWA, KRS-One and Kool G. Rap before Pac when popularity is the issue is preposterous . . . you lot keep clowning in here.@Chiogo/Moonstone/A-40 Y'all are always keeping it real . . . ![]() |
Emotional? Hehe . . . Assiduous is better . . . I like to get to the bottom of things . . . I try to see if a co-debater is making sensible points . . . If sonically or emotionally is all I care about, rappers like Nas would have no appeal to me . . . I hate his voice . . . he's not an emotional rapper . . . but check ma list of Top Rappers . . . he'll surely be no.3 . . . it's been like that for ages . . . and I don't see it changing anytime soon . . . Why're you becoming so distraught over this simple debate This is a "bread and butter" version of some debates I've been engulfed in on NL . . . you're screaming your head off over 2pac, have you ever seen me argue over Nas before Nucca that's a story for another day . . .Who put 2pac in the no.1 spot Have you ever heard me say that before Pac and Biggie are the only rappers in my A Category . . . I don't care if nerds like Ibime think I'm following popular views . . . I ain't no rebel . . . I won't decide to kick against a popular theory just to make a stupid point . . . if I don't believe it, I don't care if the Universe believes it . . . if I believe it, I don't care if the whole Universe disbelieves it . . . I make my own decisions . . . and the reasons for my decisions are kept close to ma heart . . .You must be off your tripods . . . Mystikal is a good rapper . . . take that to your Book of Quotable Quotes . . . dry-arse delivery of great lyrics is not all it takes to make a good rapper . . . that's where we differ . . . as much as I love good lyrics, your delivery must be right. You're one of those who make some peops believe that Rap is all about speaking over beats. Afterall, even Eldee admits that Rap is Music. |
iice: . . . I suddenly remembered I've been called that too.Maybe these irritating leeches on NL discouraged him . . . ![]() @Muki Wetin ah do again na You don frown for me like 200 times today alone . . . I command you to laugh now now!!! ![]() |
Ibime:Dear Lord . . . this gay just keeps farting through his fat head . . . Where did I ever mention lyrics and Mystikal/DMX in the same sentence Plus - so the fact that Mystikal ain't a dope lyricist makes him a wack rapper I can now see your problem . . . some rappers are good cos of their delivery alone . . . Biggie is a most popular example . . . listen to what Ice Cube says in "Gangster Rap Made Me Do It":". . . And it ain't about chivalry It's about dope lyrics and delivery" Nucca a good rapper needs both delivery and impressive lyrics to be noteworthy . . . however, only a handful of rappers are lucky to have that . . . even then, a rapper that has any of the two would still be reckoned with . . . Like it or leave it, Dr Dre and 2pac are impressive with lyrics . . . What does Ibime have With the 'egberi papa' English that he speaks . . . ![]() Kanye is a wack lyricist no question about that. When real HipHop heads (as I take you all to be) convene to discuss 'who is overrated', it should be automatically assumed that we are talking from a lyrical standpoint and nothing else. That includes lyrics, flow and delivery - full stop! We are not here to discuss his status as an 'artiste' or how good his songs/beats and choruses sound. Strictly the nitty gritty. I do not argue about other intangibles because one man's food is another mans poison and we all have our own tastes. However, we should be able to form a defined consensus as to whether someone is a good lyricist or not. It heartens me that Eldee has the gumption not to use the phrase 'good lyricist' in association with Kanye West's name . . . . . unlike blockheads like Bamsyle who attach such titles to deficient rappers without even knowing what the bloodclaaaart he is talking about!Over to you Eldee . . . at least this nerd has declared a full-blown war on ya! ![]() Dont mind them. They would soon tell you Pac invented inrhymes and multisyllables, metaphors and simile's, when in fact he is highly deficient in all of these. If you put on a flat beat, and tell various emcees to rhyme on it, thats where you can dig through the hype and see who is really ill and who is wack. You're not saying anything new . . . don't repeat yourself till you turn hoarse ![]() |
eldee:Aiight . . . no qualms . . . but what worse thing can anyone say about a rapper than alleging that he's wack . . . all I said was he's not hittin' hard with the music like he used to . . . you had time for me . . . As you can see, that comment was worth a nickel . . . no one's paying him attention. |
eldee:Eldee, throw that gbana you're smoking out the window and drink some cold water . . . Blazin' cyclones . . . I can't believe you just said that . . . it's a side-argument I agree . . . I just threw that 'spanner' in your 'works' . . . to see how you'll react . . . your response is dismal . . . I can swear I've seen one of your posts on this issue before . . . where you said 2pac exaggerated his gangsta life . . . and for that he's overrated . . . I disagreed . . . now you admit it's only what others think of you that makes you overrated . . . which could be worse - peops claiming he deserved the award or Kanye himself claiming so It's about time . . . ![]() I take this as a personal insult to my inteligence . . . your arguments have never been this baselessAre you serious Why can't you read between the lines? . . . When I say "relate with", you think it's about "comprehending" what a rapper's saying I mean "simple, everyday issues" . . . 2pac does not try too hard to impress anyone with wordplays et al . . . he raps about everyday issues that you can easily identify with . . . don't make me post some of those metaphysical lines here . . .Tell me you don't relate with Kanye's 'I'll do anything to say I got it, damn them new loafers hurt my pocket' line on Touch The SkyWhen I said that about Pac, I wasn't comparing him with Kanye so get a grip. Besides I seriously don't know how you relate with Against All OddsOut of the myriads of songs by 2pac, it's this one you can remember . . . simple reason why you lot just can't understand him. I won't come out to say Tupac was wackYou dare not . . . ![]() . . . nah, he wasn't, he's legendary, but was he a little overrated?? All dead rappers are!!!Quit dribbling on the touchline . . . cut to the chase!!! He's legendary bla bla but he's overrated . . . maybe all legends are then So why's Tupac always the issue![]() All dead rappers are overrated I respect your views El but this comment is most bizarre . . . Big L, Big Pun, Proof, ODB, Freaky Tah, Jam Master Jay, Mista C, Mac Dre, Eazy-E are all overrated How many peops even know Scott LaRock, Doc Doom, Big Hawk, Big Moe, Soulja Slim, Stack Bundles, Stretch, Trouble T-Roy, Yaki Kadafi Are you still the Eldee I thought I knew![]() Eldee, could you please stop having this much funParaphrased - Eldee, could you please stop smokin' lala?? ![]() |
iice:I understand . . . funny thing is - the more you keep away from them, the more they come after you . . . if you ignore them, they accuse you of being snobbish. I'll like to meet this Uncle Uche . . . ![]() @Muki Aaww . . . pele. |
~Sauron~:Oh, so the tide of your argument has changed now . . . all you said was that Pac had time to write songs whilst in prison . . . also, he was annoyed cos he felt betrayed . . . now you allude to being a Grade A rapper or not . . . At least, you now admit Pac was a Grade A rapper . . . and he had some good albums before his incarceration . . . so what's left to debate on ![]() I've not even delved into the reasons behind the incarceration of these folks . . . you'll agree with me that they all felt betrayed one way or the friggin' other . . . betrayed at the Justice System . . . at the people who got 'em behind bars . . . at the darn society as a whole . . . Heavens, some of 'em even attacked prison warders whilst serving time . . . Prison is different from the outside world . . . it ain't no place that offers you the amenities to become the saviour of the world . . . the circumstances surrounding Pac's incarceration were enough to kill his dreams . . . and shut him up forever . . . but what did he do He summed it up in "Still I Rise":"The tribulations of a ghetto kid . . . still I rise". |
iice, I feel you on that . . . what can you say/do but just maintain your poise ![]() Crazy stuff some peops type on NL . . . maybe cos of the anonymity . . . who's Uncle Uche ![]() Aaww . . . alright . . . call 'em up to be with you now. Hehehe . . . Muki is missing you ![]() |

~Sauron~:Lemme see if I can make a modest list of rappers that went to or are still in prison: Black Rob - released 2 albums, made several guest appearances on Bad Boy's joints, was incarcerated several times . . . the recent sentence being 7 years (Heavens, dude has a lot of time to write a million hits!) . . . he has slipped into oblivion. DMX - He is even the one I respect most . . . sundry arrests . . . 6 albums . . . prison must not be his driving force cos it's obvious his multiple incarcerations have marred his career. Da Brat - Three good albums . . . several guest apperances with hot R'n'B divas . . . a prison sentence (one year) . . . a fourth album . . . now in obscurity. Shyne - Another Bad Boy protégé . . . 2 albums . . . wonderful rapper . . . sentenced to 10 years in prison . . . still serving time . . . I'm waiting for him to come out with at least 5 million hit songs (nigga does have time!) Prodigy - member of the Rap Group "Mobb Deep" . . . great rapper from the East Coast . . . still serving a 3-year prison sentence . . . I'm waiting for 400 post-incarceration hit songs at least. Mystikal - one of ma fave rappers . . . unique style . . . great concept . . . 6 albums . . . still serving a 6-year jail term . . . I'm expecting . . . erm . . . 600 post-incarceration hits. Remy Ma - Terror Squad protégé . . . currently serving an 8-year jail term . . . how many post-incarceration hits should I expect ![]() What's more Need I mention C-Murder, Mac, Tray Deee, etc![]() Betrayed?? Angry?? Sauron, you're clowning . . . ![]() |
@Ibime Abeg comot there . . . berra find somethang profitable to do with your time and stop inflicting pain on our eardrums with that Merengue Music you call Rap . . . ![]() |
~Sauron~:Sauron, you know we've had this debate before and I won't just agree to this . . . 2pac was/is not the only rapper or artiste that ever went to prison . . . and even if incarceration did propel him into a genius, err'one has a driving force . . . it does not matter what motivates you . . . it's the ends that justifies the means . . . I'm unable to see how the fact that someone turned what shoulda be a stumbling block in his life into a stepping stone becomes a minus to his credentials . . . And don't forget that he spent only 11 months in prison . . . was it within that period he wrote the plethora of hits he has ![]() Some other dudes would enter the same prison as stars . . . and come out as failures . . . think about it. One of the reasons peops keep saying he's overrated is that they just can't stomach the fact that he died more than a decade ago and yet he's being celebrated this much . . . coupled with the fact that they look at his life and all they see is the THUG LIFE, F**k The World attitude and themes . . . Behind all that smokescreen . . . lies a great poet . . . who was and is still being misunderstood. |
