Not a valid list . . . only the tracks "Jockin' Jay-Z", "Swagga Like Us, and "History" have been confirmed - by JayZ himself . . . the rest are still in the realm of speculations. |
5.Azadus: . . . i guess the industry became too hazardous for weak artists like him.the boy wasn't really talented to start with.Raging typhoons, how can Azadus be referred to as "weak" or "not talented"?? . . . true, he fell off . . . and yeah, he must have made his mistakes . . . but to label him wack?? Nah . . . he's better than a lot of noisemakers on the scene presently. |
A lot of songs produced nowadays are crap on good beats . . . it gets worse by the day - an artiste enters the studio and records trash that he likes to think is good music . . . the so-called producers lace the trash over good beats . . . then comes the mixing, the digital mastering and all . . . And presto, an album's out. Now, when it's time for the artiste to reel out the same songs on stage, it becomes a problem . . . fact is, the artiste knew from the onset that he sang trash . . . he/she'll never want to disgrace him/herself by performing the song live . . . it's like stripping an ugly gurl of her makeup in broad daylight . . . There are some stupid songs one hears and you can imagine what they'll sound like when performed live . . . you can hear the song behind the song and feel the trash when stripped of the studio effects. Just as it is with acting, the test of a true artiste is on the stage. Some peops are fooled by studio effects . . . but those who have ears know the real deal. |
~Sauron~:Same sentiments here . . . it was like a well coordinated relay race . . . {Dr Dre} The buzz is tremendous, we drop you all to sense it I don't gotta promote it for you to know that doc is off the benches {Eminem} We keep the party rockin' off the henges We ain't showin' off, we just goin' off popular consensus |
~Sauron~:The way you go on 'bout Em . . . The chemistry is extraterrestrial . . . it's like the synergy between Satan and a demon . . . . . . better than a Dre-Snoop combo if you ask me . . . "Encore" was off the hinges . . . "Guilty Conscience" gotta be on that list . . . and are you forgetting "Say What You Say"?? |
oyinda.:You gotta be kiddin' me . . . she's not an artiste! Yep . . . in the States, it's commonplace to have songs sampled and remixed . . . Diana Ross' "I'm Coming Out" and Grandmasta Flash's "The Message" are examples of such sampled and remixed songs. A portion, not the whole body, of such songs are sampled in making another song. In this case, we're talkin' bout a verbatim interpretation of a song in another parlance . . . c'mon you can't be considered a serious artiste if you do that . . . especially when that's your debut cut. Though he's got a good R 'n' B voice, I don't dig Banky W . . . and I ain't being ironical. Have you heard the Yoruba version of Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"?? Can you refer to those dudes as artistes ![]() |
Haha . . . been listening to "Bad Guys Always Die" all day . . . |
Numero uno's gotta be Dr Dre . . . that ominous voice . . . he shoulda played Satan in Em's "Guilty Conscience" . . . and his voice was an 'evil omen' in "Bad Guys Always Die" (also with Em) - that song shoulda been a horror movie soundtrack . . . I put it on "repeat" anytime I listen to it . . .Biggie - the phat voice . . . laced with aura, command . . . and lots of R-E-S-P-E-C-T . . . you can dance to his voice, flows and rhymes . . . a cappella. Scarface - has a voice akin to that of a deity . . . his voice sounds like the rumblings of an earthquake . . . this voice would scare the sh*t out of kids . . . Redman - his voice strikes you like a million and one volcanoes . . . he forewarns you but hits you before you're forearmed. Rakim - his voice reeks of power and influence . . . there's an undertone in his rap that says "I don't compete, I always win!" Ice Cube - no kiddin' . . . he works the mic with a voice that can reduce glass to splinters . . . sounds like 'em old school prophets preachin' with righteous indignation . . . KRS One - boom bap! . . . hold the speakers please, they're 'bout to fall! . . . has a voice that says "don't eff with me" Chuck D - It'll take a nation of millions to hold this voice back. Jadakiss - got a voice like he was born to rap. Craig Mack - always sounds like he wanna sink a ship . . . DMX - This dude's name appears here courtesy of just one song . . . "Slippin'". The Game - "We are not the same, I am a Martian" . . . dude sure has a fearless and daunting voice . . . Xzibit - Coarse, gritty and aggressive . . . that's his spelling of Rap. Ludacris - rock-solid voice . . . sounds like a million rocks being hurled at a mountain . . . Obie Trice - serves rap with that in-yo'-face kinda voice. MC Lyte - husky and authoritative . . . leads the female pack for me . . . Lauryn Hill . . . another authoritative but sweet voice . . . a dictator with a mellifluous voice . . . she'll tell you to go to hell . . . and you'll sure enjoy the trip. Last word: I'll prescribe the first 3 voices to any aspiring rapper anyday . . . if you can, please mimic them. |
Really?? Someone please call 911 . . . someone's about to kill Music . . . How can a 'Yoruba interpreter' of a Celine Dion hit even be referred to as an artiste in the first place . . . I have a naggin' prob with peops ridin' on the wings of another person's hit to make their own song . . . their own first song . . . did someone say Banky W?? Shoulda been gagged before that Ebute Metta BS escaped his lips . . . And hey, I'm hoping she's undergone some voice training sessions . . . doesn't she sound like Cossy Orjiakor ![]() A decade ago or thereabouts when she burst on the Nigerian Music Scene, competition was zero . . . Now, with the emergence of the likes of Asa, she'd better not be kiddin'. |
DBR, Da Boss is cool, will listen to others shortly. |
dasa:This mediocre mentality has gotta change . . . in the States, MCs be droppin' double-disc albums. Nigerians will NOT listen to 3 or 4 tracks and shun the rest . . . Everybody loves hard work, Nigerians inclusive. |
Freestyle IS underrated . . . ![]() Also, W4. On a light note . . . Fatai Rollin' Dollar . . . ![]() |
~Sauron~:This is great news . . . I had a premonition lurkin' sumwhere in the deep recesses of ma mind . . . now it's gone. Lyrically and flow-wise, "We Made You" wasn't particularly mediocre.Erm . . . nah, I'm neutral about the accent . . . I understand he does it deliberately to deploy his impish personality . . . flow and content are the missing ingredients in "We Made You" . . . in his true elements, that's not Eminem . . . Nah, not even his 10th clone. |
~Sauron~:Hehe, my bad . . . musta been me playin' 'em so often the sound faded . . . Geez, I rocked those songs on me ipod, discman, etc till the earth quaked . . . ![]() And hey, I ain't even talkin' bout his homophobic/misogynyst themes . . . else "Real Slim Shady" wouldn't be that popular or accepted . . . Heavens, every frail-hearted female pop fan knows that song by heart!! Plus, my use of radio 'n' TV is a symbolic thing - meant to say these were/are very popular songs . . . and they dominated 'the airwaves', e.g. Djs used ta spin 'em at gigs and what-have-you back then . . . their popularity transcended radio and TV barriers . . . I am about to rip Blackout 2. . . . . .I will be giving ma feedbacks on that soon. Now that's one sh*t I've been waiting for. |
~Sauron~:I disagree . . . "Stan", "Criminal" "Kill You", "I'm Back", "The Way I Am" "Sing For The Moment", "My Name Is", "Till I Collapse", "Lose Yourself", and by my standards of wordplay and delivery, "Real Slim Shady", and "Without Me" - they all dominated radios and TVs upon their release . . . and aside his guest appearances, they're Em at his best. "Just Lose It" was the worst track on Encore. I always skip it on me iPod.Hehehe . . . true that. But then, Em was clowning as usual (I know you know - just stressin') . . . just that he was hyper-clowning here . . . and the high point of that joint is this: Chubba chubba chubba chubba chubba chubbie I don't have any lines to go right here so, chubba teletubbie! Fellas (What?!) Fellas (What?!) Grab your left nut, make the right one jealous ![]() |
@DBR LOL . . . you're free to use the word 'hot' o . . . ![]() I'll mos def listen to these tracks and when I have time, the album . . . but I know that overall, Illbliss is trying - as a Naija MC. And like I said before, I like "Aye Po Gan" . . . I understand the gripe some folks have about its being 'watered down' by Terry G's 'commercial input' . . . but I see no prob here at all . . . it's basically the theme and delivery of a joint that does it for me . . . and methinks that track's got a cool concept . . . like the artiste's name, it was a peaceful war song . . . There was sumn uneasily calm . . . sumn blissfully ill going about it. |
Well, just wondering why anyone would put out his worst tracks for promo . . . ![]() Aiight . . . I'll withhold further comments until I listen to all the joints on the album. |
A-40:Recluse or sumn . . . ![]() ~Sauron~:What sort of MC can't thrive without controversy?? Strip Em of controversy and what's left?? He's got some talent no doubt but he wouldn't be so 'good' by his Stans' standards if not for his usual style of shittin' on celebrities . . . Eminem is a good rapper but when it comes to separatin' the men from the boys, he doesn't count in me books . . . Which Slim Shady persona?? In Rap's Hall of Fame, you need more than a dark, sinister and mischievous personality . . . you need consistent artistry . . . he burst on the scene with SSLP, armed with crazy wordplay and mad-ass delivery . . . aside the fiendish xter he portrayed, he sounded convincing enough as an MC . . . he'd better have songs nearly as good as "Guilty Conscience" on "Relapse" . . . else I'll be reminded of the song "Another One Bites The Dust" . . . it's sad but it happens - MCs die daily . . . The promo tracks are meant for the frail-hearted, the ladies, the pop fans, etc.And I add Barrack Obama to that list . . . even McCain and Hillary Clinton . . . that's the Eminem I sure know . . . but unfortunately it does nutin for me . . . I'm all for his wordplay and delivery . . . I don't consider Em as a strict lyricist . . . he's got some of the best play on words . . . and that's where I totally disagree with you on the promo thingy . . . frail-hearted, ladies and pop notwithstandin', he usually comes clean with his wordplay and delivery . . . blazin' cyclones, "Real Slim Shady", "Without Me" and "Just Lose It" all have some of the finest wordplays I've heard in a rap song . . . forget the pop sound - especially the first two . . . but he lost me on this latest effort . . . I've listened to "Crack A Bottle" like a zillion times - all in an attempt to try 'n' 'justify' what Em was doin' on that track . . . and in the end I had to give it up . . . same applies to "We Made You" . . . Letz call a spade by its name . . . mighty peops do fall . . . the Titanic sank . . . Woolworth crashed . . . the almighty Capital Market is suffering a seizure . . . Eminem must be havin' a relapsing fever . . . Aiight . . . I'll mos def cop the album and try out those tracks plus more . . . but I had noticed a decline in Em's artistry since his post-MMLP comebacks. |
Yet to cop the album but with the lil' I've heard a la "Crack A Bottle" and "We Made You", Eminem shoulda stayed in retirement . . . ragin' tornadoes, what was he trying to do on "Crack A Bottle"?? He sounded like a clueless 12-year old . . . Dr Dre gave that joint a measure of sanity . . . I've said it before and I'll keep saying it - dude thrives on controversy more than anything else . . . "We Made You" is another testimony to this fact . . . its similarity to "Real Slim Shady" in style 'n' concept is glaring . . . dude was just shittin' on celebrities as usual to sell records . . . My best Em album would remain MMLP, then SSLP . . . if I'm forced to make a third pick, it'll be The Eminem Show . . . Going by the promo tracks I've heard so far, a true hip hop fan with real hip hop ears can never refer to "Relapse" as a good album . . . that sh*t is crap . . . and to think 'we' waited for five solid years for this sh*t to hit our eardrums . . . I'm certain 'bout one thang - the album would live up to its name . . . it would quickly relapse into oblivion. |
Hmm . . . pretty close but Good Girl Gone Bad edges slightly . . . Funny enough I hate "Umbrella" . . . but I dig "Rehab" and "Disturbia" . . . overall the album was more experimental than Sasha Fierce. |
@blacksta flight and accomodaton = 1,500 ( i am sure she stayed at friend house) ![]() See as this dude dismembered the tall tale finish . . . that was a successful surgical operation . . . ![]() That vid can never cost 3 mil . . . no long story. |
@ElRazur I disagree that most rappers are capable of being intelligent. Most rapper will only do what they are good at. A good example is Soulja boy. I really do not see how he can come out with something as deep like those of Common or something Jada would spit.Words, words, words . . . They are tools . . . weapons . . . fact, they have a life of their own. The prob is most times it's difficult to explain some thangs on paper . . . it's easier to say much with a few words . . . but readers are also expected to read much into those few words . . . *You're gonna make me type an essay now* Of course I understand what you mean by saying not all rappers are intelligent . . . but the fact is when talking about 'intelligence', you can't narrow it to a strict sense . . . What's 'intelligence' anyway I won't attempt a definition . . . but surely it connotes words like "developed mental faculties", "mental brightness", "well-informed", "intellectual skill/knowledge", "mental capacity", etc. Now, you'll agree that "intelligence", given all those key words, is relative . . . My point: Intelligence, as a quality, can never, has never, and will never stand on its own. It's in measures, quantities . . . it is hinged on its context of use with other determining factors. Aiight . . . when I say "every rapper who has enough sense to pen/spit impressive lyrics must be intelligent" . . . I mean "for any rapper to even be considered a rapper at all, he/she must have the required developed mental faculties" to rap" . . . and note that I struck Soulja Boy off the list . . . some peops try to rap . . . some peops actually do rap . . . A rapper does not have to be Albert Einstein . . . or Shakespeare . . . or Faraday. In music, once you have enough mental capacity to communicate . . . that's intelligent enough . . . it's a different ball game to say some are more intelligent than others . . . maybe the notable saying in Animal Farm should be instructive here . . . You'll note that I emboldened some parts of your post as quoted above . . . most times when you try to explain intelligence, you have to employ relative words such as "like", "as", etc . . . hence, your saying "as deep as Common . . . or Jada" . . . Intelligence is a common quality freely given all humans who are not deficient in their mental faculties . . . it's not that scarce . . . Geez, some peops don't even believe Rap Music offers any (extra) intelligence . . . It all depends on what you influence . . . and what influences you. |
Dear Lord . . . are some posters in NL for real ![]() Someone needs to be jailed . . . ![]() |
simon seez:Real talk right there . . . like the Jamaicans have Bob Marley . . . I daresay Nigerians have Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. compared to what we listen to now, 'gborieee won fokasibe' and the likes, now u knowwhy our intellectual processing capicity is getting lower,LMAO . . . I also wonder at the taste of some Naija music artistes . . . where in God's name is the sense to be made in "Fokasibe"?? Songs like this should be thrown in the trash bin. |
@Chiogo Very apt . . . you took the darn words outta ma What is bubble-gum rap to Tom might be great stuff to Harry . . . it depends on which audience each MC's trying to reach out to . . . Plus I do believe an MC can spit dope lines and still have commercial appeal . . . I can name 20 rappers who're doing that. |
A classic. |
It's really close . . . plus I kinda tilted in Ajasa's favour some time back . . . but the balance is kinda tilting to Da Grin's side now . . . he's gettin' iller by the |
Lol . . . letz just pretend it's a joke . . . makes things much easier for us . . . Y'know - one of the best attributes of a good jokesmith is cracking a joke that'll make people laugh, cry, sneeze, and cough all at once . . . while the jokesmith is keeping a straight face. |
Teehee . . . you just cracked the joke of the year . . . this joke would tempt Ali Baba to change his profession . . . to that of a bouncer. |
You're so naughty . . . Have you heard that after his long retreat, Michael Jackson is set to release "Thriller"?? |
Ibk, the song is 'new' every morning, right?? ![]() |
![]() You're welcome ElRazur . . . "Belinda" was by Grady Harrell . . . I don't have the download link . . . but you can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GukfpyNj_ww Ain't a Nigerian though . . . Lalaboi, pls come to the rescue . . . ![]() Wow . . . "Silifa bamijo, Silifa (2x)" . . . . . . funny song . . . it was by Bola Abimbola . . . I'll look around for it. |
. . . better than a Dre-Snoop combo if you ask me . . .
what's wrong with calling her an artist?
