~Sauron~:To my utmost shock, I'm agreeing to your opinion 100% . . . on NL . . . ![]() A-40:Some are written for him, he single-handedly writes some whilst he co-writes others . . . his Chronic album employs writings from acts like Royce Da 5'9'', Jay-Z, Eminem, etc. It's even his voice/delivery that captivates me . . . give Dre any simple line(s) and watch him elevate them to your hearing . . . only a handful of cats like Biggie, Eminem, Jadakiss enjoy that privilege. Ibime:Are you suffering from epilepsy ![]() You stinko . . . your alcohol-sodden rabbles of recent have changed my initial impression of you . . . how can you compare Andre to Dr Dre . . . or you think the similarity in their names gives Andre that privilege ![]() You know what? Throw away that local Port Harcourt brew you're drinking and sober up for once! You mule ![]() |
iice, now I've confirmed that you're a lover of music with good lyrical content . . . I just finished listening to Maino's "Till I Die" and Blackalicious' "Deception" . . . now those are lyrics-studded. My quick observations: Maino - voice resembles that of Mr. Cheeks of Lost Boyz; concept/style (in "Till I Die" is influenced by 2pac.Blackalicious - "Deception" - nice concept, good lyrics, nice beat accompanied by a good/hilarious video . . . was Gift of Gab talking about Sisquo ![]() |
~Sauron~:Exactly the reason for my opinion . . . They went pop with "Ms Jackson", "Hey Ya" and all the stuff that followed . . . from that moment, I couldn't think about them without remembering Black Eyed Peas . . . can you seriously compare their pop sound with Dr Dre's style ![]() A-40:Seconded . . . but Dr Dre still outshines a serious-sounding Andre IMO. |
Ibime:Confound it . . . whether he wrote it or not is not the issue here . . . his delivery matched those words *and FYI, he co-wrote it with Eminem* . . . give the same lyrics to Andre and Big Boi and letz see the outcome . . . ![]() |
Twisted heretic!!! If you tell me Dre's got more clout as a producer than a rapper, I'll easily agree . . . but Dre not a rapper That's bell-bottomed balderdash . . . no lyrical input This is becoming grotesque . . . Have you listened to "The Watcher"?? Man, that's like reading "The Proverbs" in the Bible . . . I'll not mention other great joints from Dre. |
~Sauron~:I don't agree . . . We're almost on the same page but you're missing my point by a hair's breadth . . . who are the observers Peops like you and me who've got 2 ears and 2 eyes, who can see, hear, feel and know what the real deal is . . .Don't tell me that when you want to observe/understudy something, you go to the internet alone . . . whatever happened to the other sources of info - TV, Radio, Newspapers/Magz, Books The internet might be a good source of info, but believe me a lot of ish goes on there . . . it's ridden with scoundrels who just go there to vent their idleness on innocent observers . . . you gotta run a background check on stuff you see on the net . . .If observers need stats on the legacies left behind by Biggie/Pac, they can get 'em from various sources . . . from documentaries to movies (e.g. "Notorious"/"Resurrection" . . . from what their living colleagues say about 'em (Nas, Jay-Z, Scarface, Dr Dre, Eminem, Snoop, Busta Rhymes, etc) . . . some of them were privileged to have collabed with them . . . it's called an eyewitness account . . . they can cop their albums, listen to them and friggin' judge for themselves . . .The internet cannot be the best tool . . . it's fraught with a plethora of different blogs, websites and fora . . . each expressing their personal sentiments . . . if tomorrow I decide that Soulja Boy is the best rapper ever to have strode on the planet called Earth, I'll just open up a website for him and pour all the accolades under heaven on him, geddit ![]() Word on tha streetz is what is commonly known . . . and agreed on by all and sundry . . . it needs no poll . . . no debate . . . it's entrenched in our hearts and minds . . . Raw Data If you need one, ask 10 neighbourz to go round houses on yo' street asking all the residents who the best rapper ever is . . . multiply by responses from 10 other streets . . . collate all the answers and do the maths . . . what could be more raw than that![]() |
Ibime:You must be going cuckoo . . . Big Pun and Fat Joe are good rappers . . . Big Pun being the better of the two . . . IMO they sound better solo . . . you can't compare the duo to that of Red/Meth . . . these 2 are divinely orchestrated to be twins . . . Tut Tut . . . do you listen to music through your skin pores . . . we're on a Snoop/Dre, Red/Meth, Eminem/Dre wavelength and you bring in Andre and Big Boi, Ruck and Rock . . . not saying they ain't good but can you compare 'em to the aforelisted![]() |
~Sauron~:Meth Nah . . . you can't compare Dre's malleability with that of Meth . . . Dre just blends with any good rapper . . . he raps like he's in a relay-race and gotta pass the baton to someone else . . . go listen to all his solo efforts . . . apart from "The Watcher" (I prefer it to "The Watcher II" , you can't compare 'em with his collabos with Eminem, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, etc . . . Dre usually raps like he's laying a general foundation that any good rapper can build on . . . Meth on the other hand brings the shaolin rap style . . . the signature style of Wu-Tang . . . fit to be married only to Redman who delivers rap lines akin to kick-boxing . . . Meth with the smooth, gliding, fluid, deep and velvety delivery . . . Red with the high-tempo, mad-tempered, fast and furious delivery . . . it's like a destined combo, the high and the low ends of Hip Hop . . . I'll compare 'em to the Chakademus/Pliers and the Born J'americans combo . . . they were just born to be together. Thundering sandstorms in a million blazing volcanoes . . . "What's Happening" was good . . . but very mediocre when compared with what the Red/Meth intercourse delivered . . . Heavens, if you have noticed, Busta just sounds like a coarse and aggressive version of Meth . . . and when the 2 collab, expect nothing out of the ordinary . . . the tempo of "What's Happening" was the same all through its duration . . . you can imagine what Red woulda done to that track . . . on their joints, I love it when Meth kicks the first verse (with that mellow grind) and Red comes next to pump up the darn rhythm . . . "Tear It Off" was a rollercoaster ride . . . mellow to mad, then mellow, and mad again . . . low, high, low, high again . . . got it The rhythm/tempo just keeps changing . . . and like a fast-paced, dynamic action movie, you gotta move up with it . . .Redman sonned Busta badly in "Da Goodness" . . . Busta was way too wack on that track . . . you can imagine a remix with Methodman . . . this time with 4 turbo-charged verses . . . another pointer to the fact that these 2 are made for each other. Blasphemy!!!! Dogg Pound?? Mobb Deep(Early days). The duo of Kurupt and Daz is awesome . . . but which of their albums can you compare to Blackout! Dogg Food Nah . . . go back and listen to 2pac's "Got My Mind Made Up" . . . skip Pac's verse and marry Daz's verse with Kurupt's . . . compare 'em with Tical/Funk Doc's verses and give me a feedback . . . Pac must have a reason for lettin' Red and Meth take tha last 2 verses . . . back to back (same wasn't the case with Daz/Kurupt) . . . ![]() Mobb Deep That's not even close to the product of a Snoop/Dre affair.Listen to 'Encore' featuring Em, Dre and Fiddy. Try 'The Re-Up' too.Nah fam . . . Em even brings the commerciality to the table than Fiddy does . . . Fiddy is darn too watered down . . . "Encore"?? It was a Dre/Em affair . . . the amazing way Dre and Em flipped 'em verses readily attests to what I've been saying since . . . "The Re-Up"?? An Em affair . . . Fiddy wasn't on both radars . . . Em should just stop at Dre . . . their chemistry is great . . . Fiddy He should sing the darn hook and shut up!!!Pun's untimely death spoilt things. The Fat latino had skills in him, i swear.Of course I agree . . . but rating a Big Pun/Fat Joe bond above a Red/Meth tango is unacceptable . . . it doesn't even come close. I rate Jada!!! He was born to deliver rap lines.I do too . . . and for starters I don't agree that DMX murked the LOX in "24 Hours To Live" . . . Jadakiss' verse was the very best on that joint, quote me anywhere . . . of course he's ahead of Styles P and Sheek . . . but those two (especially Styles) ain't walk-overs too. |
iice I'm out for now . . . I'll give you a feedback on "Blackalicious" pretty soon . . . catch ya on tha rebounce . . . |
![]() Hehehe . . . very straight-to-da-point . . . if this is joblessness, I tell you it pays . . . ![]() Yes . . . plus the four hemispheres . . . and the extraterrestrial ones . . . when you're big you're big . . . ![]() *Sorry 'bout ma late replies atimes . . . in the middle of sumtin . . .* |

ajadrage:A cowrie shell for your thoughts . . . ![]() mukina2:Allow me in first na, mon sista . . . trust first, the benefits will come later. |
@Poster Where did you get your info from I've only read sumn like that from an interview with Rooftop MCs. Some of those gospel artistes are just denying Jesus in order to cash in on the ongoing boom in the music industry . . .The Music Scene has changed . . . nowadays it's difficult to differentiate between Christ's and Caesar's . . . these days which artiste sings gospel the way the likes of Bola Are, Niyi Adedokun, Ojo Ade, Good Women Choir, etc sang it ![]() |
~Sauron~:Nah . . . 'word on the streetz' and the internet are worlds apart . . . As you said, word on tha streetz is the credibility . . . the internet is largely fake - anything goes . . . it's just like elections in Naija - the so-called 'elected' leaders are actually selected . . . foisted on the people . . . the real leaders are the ones the electorate actually voted for . . . but who never made it to the throne . . . cos of some arm-twisting maniacs . . . I might decide to mass-market an artiste on the internet . . . that does not mean that artiste is large in the real world . . . forget what I say on the net . . . I might call him superman on the net . . . but he might be so-poor-man in the real world . . . Ruggedman said it - "streetz dey rule, they carve your behaviour" . . . The only artistes who manage to get credibility on both fronts are the conspicuously good ones . . . key words - good and conspicuous . . . known on both the mainstream and underground scenes . . . We all know Common, Ras Kass and Rakim are deep lyricists but put a poll online and watch Soulja Boy take em apart in ratings.Exactly ma point . . . Thatz where word on da streetz differs from the internet . . . some spoilt buncha kidz would vote a million times to see Soulja Boy win . . . which real hip hop head has time for voting . . . especially on the net . . . the heads keep what they know close to their hearts . . . they reckon with Common, Rass Kass and Rakim . . . they won't even write a biography 'bout 'em . . .Even amongst these nu-skul listeners, there's acrimony . . . go view comments on Lil 'Wayne and Rick Ross on YouTube . . . some peops still say they suck . . . and ask for the revival of the Golden Age of Rap - with 'em Biggie, 2pac, Rakim and others . . . Word on tha streetz is what it is . . . it rarely leaves the streets . . . but it's the predominant news . . . everyone knows it . . . it spreads effortlessly . . . but no one is willing to campaign about it . . . Unlike the internet, its actual statistics are not determined by polls but by common knowledge . . . I mean, it's common knowledge that Barrack Obama is black . . . why take a poll to determine it ![]() It's called The Truth . . . and The Truth does not fight to defend itself. |
~Sauron~:Of course the Dr Dre/Snoop chemistry was great but they can't even touch Tical and Doc with a 5000m pole . . . as individual acts, Snoop and Dre are great . . . that individual greatness was carried over into their combo . . . nutin more . . . you can't compare the chemistry between Tical and Doc with these guys . . . Red and Meth ain't as good individually as they are as a duo . . . it's like the two were destined to be together . . . I daresay the success of the Dre/Snoop combo is largely based on Dr Dre's ability to blend well with any MC . . . are you forgetting his combo with LL Cool J on "Zoom", with 2pac on "California Love" and with Eminem on "Say What You Say", "Guilty Conscience", "Forgot About Dre" . . . Great Snakes . . . "Deep Cover", "F**k With Dre Day", "Still D.R.E", "Next Episode", "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang", "Let Me Ride" can't mess with anythang from the stables of Tical and Funk Doc.Jeez, you can compare Dre/Snoop chemistry with Warren G/Nate Dogg (though Nate ain't a rapper) . . . not with Red/Meth . . . those are outta this world . . . Blackout album?? Maybe 3-4 songs are worth listening to. . . .Blackout! . . .?? That's one of the best albums from any rap duo . . . with joints like "Y.O.U", "Da Rockwilder", "Tear It Off", "Cereal Killer", "Mic Cheka", and "How High Remix" . . . Go listen to it again. Fiddy and Em are siamese twins. U can't take it from the 2 cats.Eminem is superb . . . Fiddy is trash . . . someone's gotta tell Em that Fiddy spoils his show when featured . . . I remember Em's "Love Me" . . . I was enjoying Obie and Em's verses until Fiddy came along and just spoiled my mood . . . he spat his usual hogwash - messin' around with his stupid jabs . . . From "You Don't Know" to "Peep Show", etc . . . 50 keeps spoiling the show when he makes appearances with Em.Go and cop 'Glamour life' on Big Pun's debut album.Of the fatsos, only Biggie stands out unchallenged . . . Big Pun comes next - from afar . . . but Red/Meth still eat him raw . . . Fat Joe Nah . . . not in that league . . . hey, where's Heavy D . . . ![]() . . . i like Jadakiss. His lyrics are not great but the way he delivers is peerless. Other cats on LOX are asswipes!!Of course Jadakiss is a giant . . . LOX . . . how can you describe the duo of Styles P and Sheek as such . . . that group's got a nice bond . . . "Last Day" with Biggie, "We'll Always Love Big Poppa" (tribute to Biggie), "It's All About The Benjamins" . . . individually, they still deliver - especially Jada and Styles.@A-40 Spot on . . . we're on tha same page. |
@Java MI does tend to get overrated when peops attempt to place the crown of 'King of Naija Rap' on his head. |
@Muki Mon sista . . . I come dey feel hungry o . . . all of a sudden . . . nor dey do ya broda like dis na . . . abeg. @iice Alrighty . . . I love the 90s rap too (that was Rap's Most Valuable Era). Aiight . . . hop on quickly . . . I'm right behind you . . . |
~Sauron~:You don't understand . . . agreed that ratings are done on the net . . . but by who MTV, VH1, etc . . . voters are peops like you and me who have the time . . . and atimes the resources . . . to do so.I'm talkin' ' bout word on the streetz, what's the prevalent consensus amongst the people - students, workers, market women, the elite, the illiterates . . . everyone . . . 90-sumn% of these folks exist outside the internet. Letz face it . . . majority of the war of words on Modenine on NL are mostly between his haterz and fans . . . most of the neutral minds are outta NL . . . that's where the real rating happens. |
@Muki Hehehe . . . I sure say na the movie angle dey ves you so o . . . nor ves . . . we go soon discuss Tom & Jerry ![]() Ok, but wetin una wan chop na? I sure say that food nor fit reach only you. @iice Thankies Aiight . . . I'll go try him out. Hmmm . . . "Notorious" wasn't so bad . . . not sure of my movie-review abilities but it kinda helped me take a closer look into the life of an artiste I really adore . . . if not sure of other things, I'm sure of this - the dude who played Biggie's role interpreted his smart-ass side very well . . . you know Biggie was a real smart-ass in real life, 'dribbled' his mom many times with his fly/sly attitude. Please watch it . . . funny movie it is. Blackalicious? I haven't. |
@Funkybaby Spliffstar Are you serious iice:In the league of most underrated rappers, Redman stands out as the very best . . . he's consistent . . . very crazy . . . much as I like Busta Rhymes, I still remember how he effortlessly sonned him in 'Da Goodness' . . . he's a rap machine . . . his voice/flows are out of this world!!! A-40:Probably ![]() Nah, 'definitely' is more appropriate . . . which other team/duo even comes close ![]() Heavens, you're talkin' about the Chakademus & Pliers of Rap. A-40:True that . . . "How High" was a monumental hit . . . same goes for countless other guest appearances these demi-gods made . . . What a combo . . . Redman with the hell-raisin' voice . . . Meth comes with the mellow-it angle . . . I first loved 'em guys in 2pac's "Got My Mind Made Up" . . . these dudes blend on any kinda joint . . . hardcore, R'n'B, name it . . . Pupils would have a better understanding of the word "Chemistry" if Red/Meth were used as case study. |
Every moment with iice is momentous . . . ![]() Expert I just love to write . . . even when I know nought . . . I always believe I'll stumble on the truth in the course of my writing . . . ![]() Please do . . . I need am. The newbies suck . . . who's Maino ![]() Movies . . . don't really have chance . . . except the type I'm crazy about . . . just saw 'Notorious' . . . have you seen "Bolt"? Great . . . so we'll both light the fire then . . . letz help each other ![]() |
Hehe . . . you can't deny the fact that Mode9 is an underground rapper . . . that's what I mean . . . though I must admit he's the most popular undergee rapper in Naija . . . The mere fact that he's underground makes him relatively unknown when compared with 'em mainstream cats . . . I mean, ask the average Nigerian about Modenine and he/she would have no clue . . . they're more conversant with Ruggedman, 2shotz, etc . . . even some who know him are only familiar with his single - 'Cry' . . . only the ardent rap listeners know him. In all, that earlier post of mine was just to drive home a point - an artiste doesn't get overrated on the internet . . . it happens in the real world . . . I saw naughtiness lurking around the corner . . . and tried to curb it . . . I doubt you understand ![]() |
