Politics / Re: Diplomat Caught In India Has Been Covered Up. by Bankole01(m): 4:13pm On May 24, 2007
There is a cover up in the works as we speak.

Pls reead the following:

Nigerian Miltary may have approved  the $2.27 million found on the Nigerian Defence Attaché to India, Navy Captain G. A. Ojedokun, for which he was arrested by Indian security agencies,
a senior officer in the Military who would not want his name in print yesterday clarified that the money was duly approved by the Ministry of Defence for certain projects earmarked for the Nigerian High Commission in India.
He said the money was part of an approval released for the project after the endorsement of the Defence Ministry, pointing out that the project was initially meant to be undertaken by the former Defence Adviser, also a Navy Captain, who is currently
attending the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, in Kuru near Jos, Plateau State.
“Following the appointment of the new Defence Adviser, the cost of the project was reviewed downwards. From our discussions with the Ojedokun and investigations, we discovered that the officer was trying to return the money which is the balance of the original sum that was approved to the country.”
The senior officer explained that problems arose when he failed to declare that he had such an amount of money on him, which is normal international practice.

Explaining that the arrested Captain has since been released and has resumed duties at the Nigerian mission in India, the senior officer said the incident was blown out of proportion simply because it involved a diplomat.
When contacted for comments on the development, a senior official of the ministry who pleaded anonymity said “the Defence headquarters has set up a board of enquiry to further investigate the incident and unravel the circumstances surrounding it."
It would be recalled that the Indian Airport Authorities on the allegation that he was trying to smuggle out the $2.27million arrested Ojedokun an attache to the Nigerian High Commission in India.
He was said to have been stopped while about to board an Ethiopian airline flight bound for Lagos  on Monday night, when the scanner revealed he had stacks of cash in his bag.
Indian authorities were said to be investigating whether there is a connection between Ojedokun and a drug syndicate in Nigeria, because he failed to mention if the money was linked to the Nigerian mission.

Politics / Re: Bola-ige Was Killed By Drug Barons- Obj by Bankole01(m): 3:55pm On May 24, 2007
Ehindero had promised to produce the alleged drug baron to the public but when the said day arrived, no one was paraded. The police claimed they could not find some documents needed to corroborate their assertion!

Talk about double speak. This drug baron was supposed to have been arrested and prosecuted by Bola Ige some seven years ago! They (police) knew about this man's conspiracy and plot which resulted in the assasination of the attoney general but did nothing about it. Now, when Obasanjo is about to leave office and everyone is asking him about Bole Ige, they decided to bring this asinine conspiracy theory to try and hoodwink the people.

Nigerians are tired of Obasanjo. Despite his electoral coup on the nation, he will never be able to rest in peace.

Obasanjo has murder sleep and shall never see sleep nor peace for the remainder evil his life. He will always be looking for ghosts which will hound him to death. AMEN!!!

OBJ has initiated the construction of 13 power plants most of which the next administration will inherit.

Between 1978 and 1999 when OBJ  came into power just TWO power stations were built

If people are too STUPID to see the potential benefit of such policies to the economy, while wallowing in self-pity, too bad.

The New Nigeria is about to LEAVE YOUR SORRY ASSES BEHIND,

Over 200,000 Chinese have left THEIR country to come and take advantage of the huge opportunities available in Nigeria.

While our know it all moaners SIT ON THEIR LAZY BACKSIDES IN THE WEST moaning all day about what their country can do for them.

Awon Ode!

Classic Nigerian form of debate. If you can't convince detractors and make them see your point, abuse and curse them out, this will change their minds, or make you feel better about yours.

Cheers and kudos to you.

Two power stations built between 1978 and 1999. Since then, nothing has been done for the country in perpetual darkness inspite of the trillions accruing to the nation!
Initiating 13 power stations is not equated to completing them. This is nothing new with the government dreaming on paper with there so called 'white paper' where they write all sorts of mouth watering projects for which money will be appropiated but nothing to show for it at the end of the day!

Over 200, 000 chinese left their country not only to do business in Nigeria, for which their government and businesses gave them money for. We should actually be quacking in our 'ode' (stupid) minds because these are mordern colonialists who are out to take over our poor country.

It is not those of us sitting in our 'cold flats' who can't see thes but our leaders who pander to the outside world instead of lifting up our people to produce and better themselves.
A lot of us sitting in US, UK etc and have high skills in whatever would just like nothing better than to come back home and start businesses. Where do we get the money, most of which you will spend bribing the goverment officials.

So while wesit on our 'lazy backsides' most of us earn more money out here than you can 'shake a stick at' but at the same time, we have investments and families that can't be easily uprooted just like that.
With only $200,000 grant, i will readily uproot myself to start my dream business in Nigeria, beacuse I believe I can carve out a niche and make a fortune while at the same time making the lot of the people better.
For this same reason, I refused to sell the products of my casava farm to foreigners. Instead opting to turm them to end products to seel to Nigerians.

With kids in law school and other colleges do you think it is easy for anyone to just pack up and move to uncertainty?

Your point is now crystal clear to this 'ode'   THANK YOU

@Bankole01,

Yar'adua spent 8 years as a governor and did not steal money from the state so why are you insinuating that he is a thief or that he will do so as a president?

It is this same pessimism that is destroying Nigeria.

Afam please read my rejoinder well. It said nothing about Yar'Adua stealing money, but that you can't start off on a good leg from a platform of rigged and stolen mandate. It just doesn't compute well for an honest man starting off from a wrong done to the citizens of Nigeria.

I am an eternal optimist, who looks forward to being able to come back home to settle down. This does not however stop me from crying foul when I see a wrong being perpetrated. My whole life and career is staked on this.

250 cars? That means that of Nigeria was very credible as I don't recall people burning cars like that.

Bush did not complete the usual ceremony on his way to the inuaguration as eggs were smashed at his limo and they had to race to the White House (See Farenheit 911, no actors, live video clips of actual events, super documentary).

The riot in France had nothing to do with rigged election but the disapproval of the conservative Sarckozy's open endorsement and love of George Bush. Sarckozy is percieved by the ethnic minority as not being friendly to their plight and also considered a racist. This is why they rioted when he won a free and fair election.

This is not the first time the ethnic minority and mostly black and arab immigrants have rioted in France, destroying theirs' and property of fellow poor and oppressed people.

Lets not go too far into comparing this with Nigeria's openly rigged (s)elections. (apples and oranges).

Wake man and swallow some 'alabukun' medicine. Welcome to Nigeria- the land of the clueless. You aint seen nothing yet. We know have fresident-select Musa Yar'Adua coming in to make things better for all of us. As for me, a get my plot of land wey a go jus make gari for my village, we get coconut wey a go take soak gari for chop chop morning, day and chop eba for night. My stomack go come hard like person wey don swallow brick and big like Obasanjo own.

At least these candidates went to the forum to let us know they are clueless about governance, fore-warning us not to vote for them. Some already were annointed by the 'emperor for life' (PDP) and didn't need to expose their ignorance of governance or economics of a nation, and so didn't need bother to speak to us small people.

They are all now (s)elected and there is nothing you and I can do about it. They will spend the next four (maybe) years to chop belle full, the finest foods money can buy, erecting mansions in their villages (with no roads leading to or fro) acquiring multiple useless and meaningless titles becoming chief 'gbendu gbendu ikun'. They will be able to start their own airlines (God save us all, from decrepit airplanes) and be able to statch a few billions in some foreign banks.

Where do you and I figure into this equation? No where man (idiot, who cares about your poor and emaciated butt) if you don't get out our the way of the big shots convoys blaring high pitch sirens to scare us away, they will just run over you and your raggedy smokey 'tokunbo' cars.

There is a silver lining however ( Igbo people will say God dey, no condition is permanent)
Fresident Yar'Adua has promised to soothe our tired oppressed and tired minds. He is going to mount the podium of power and cleanse everything making things alright, nevermind that he is coming in on the wheels of disenfranchisement of the citizens with stolen mandate from the worst sham of (s)elections. doing the right thing, from the stand point of evil.

If all else fails, we can go to Otta maybe there will be a feww chicken bones lying arround tha we can knor on.

I declared war on Obasanjo and PDP eight years ago. Yar'Adua is just inheriting my wrath with his selective blindness to the shenanigans and charade called April selections. He wants to pretend that everything is okay and all's well with the disenfranchisement of Nigerians over their stolen mandate.

This tells me he is not a man to be trusted and hence the new focus of my wrath. Obasanjo will never seize to hear my big mouth however. That man has single handedly turned the hands of the clock in Nigeria back 30 years.

Nigeria is now a TEENAGER again hence the maturity problem. Infantile indeed!

Hopes of Nigerian officials and the intense lobby to have the President-elect, Umar Musa Yar’Adua to meet President George Bush before the May 29 inauguration has been dashed.

"The White House does not have a tradition of granting formal state audience to president-elects and this is no exception," was the terse response from the seat of American government which foreclosed a meeting between the US president and Yar’Adua.

Politics / Thank You: President Obasanjo by Bankole01(m): 1:54pm On May 11, 2007
Personal View By Mobolaji Sanusi

IN eighteen days time, the second term of four years of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure will expire. On that day, Umaru Yar’Adua, president-elect, will take over from Obasanjo who has been in charge of the nation’s affairs for eight years. Given the circumstances of his emergence in 1999 and considering his military background, it is clear that the man could not have performed better as a civilian president

President Obasanjo agreed to be President even when Aare M.K.O. Abiola’s mandate freely given by 14 million Nigerians was still subsisting. Obasanjo came out of prison thinking of how to rehabilitate himself but between Minna and Abuja, the decision was taken and the presidency was thrown on his laps. Unprepared,  he became president and the result is what we are thanking him for today.

In all democracies, the masses through whom majority of the electorate come from are kings. Their perception constitute the bulk of what is called public opinion which has not favoured Obasanjo

Government in serious democracies of the world treat matters concerning this class of people with all seriousness. This is not the case under the Obasanjo Presidency. Let us thank Obasanjo for having very little respect for the people of this country. If anyone is in doubt, the out-going adminis-tration’s anti-people’s reforms that aided a handful of industria-lists bore eloquent testimony to this fact.

Obasanjo is seen as a farmer of international repute. Even as president, he takes pride in telling people who care to listen that he would retire to his farm in Otta, Ogun state. May we hail this farmer of a president whose eight years of governance witnessed increasing prices of food stuffs and other agricultural products. The prices of a bag of rice, beans, garri and other staple food items have doubled now compared with the prices they were sold under immediate past administrations. Yet, those administrations were not headed by  farmers. Let there be ten gbosas for Obasanjo for achieving this feat for the country.

Petroleum products especially petrol, diesel and kerosene are items relied upon for industrial and domestic purposes. Their prices like that of a baloon kept blooming by the day without taking into cognisance the harsh realities of the Nigerian people. Electricity services have been more epileptic under this administration in eight years than what was met on ground. Obasanjo in eight years could not build a single refinery and shamefully, the country still rely on imported fuel to meet the fuel needs of its people. Let us all thank Obasanjo for this rare feat or was it reforms.
The greatest handiwork of President Obasanjo was noticeable in the area of politics.

As a retired general with no prior background in politics, the president has beaten the real politicians in their game. By the way he was brought to power, he was taught the art of winning-at-all-cost. Now, those who taught him and their accolytes are gnashing their teeth. Last month’s elections according to observers (both domestic and international) witnessed rigging, fraud and violence never contemplated in the anals of the nation’s history. Under Obasanjo presidency, added to the nation’s political lexicon is the politics of “do-or-die” which gives no reverence to the wishes of the electorate. Shall we all thank Obasanjo for achieving this feat.

On the international front, Kudos must be given to the president for mopping up our money to pay the nation’s foreign debts even at the expense of local contractors who are still being owed billions of naira. Many of the local contractors with verifiable claims have gone bankrupt due to inability to pay loans used to execute government contracts. I’m yet to feel the impact of the paid foreign debts when new ones are already being obtained. In this regard, let us thank Obasanjo for pandering to foreign dictates at the expense of welfare of his people in the home front.

In eight years of Obasanjo’s reign, Nigeria recorded great strides in international politics through deft diplomatic moves and involvements in signing peace to the continent of Africa and the world at large. His regime would forever be remembered for the activation of GSM phones in our country, though the financial commitments for the use of hand sets is killing Nigerians contrary to the situations in even smaller countries. Most roads are still in shambles all these years to the amazement of most Nigerians who hoped in 1999 that things would not be this bad by May 2007. Here we are lamenting.

On the corruption front, the reality is that the more this administration professes to be fighting the cankerworm, the more it continues to spread mostly among members of the ruling party. Apart from economic corruption, this administration has promoted political corruption to a level that might be difficult to surpass by successive administrations.

The eight years of President Obasanjo rule will forever be remembered for its arbitrariness and dictatorial tendencies which rates very high in the estimation of right thinking people.

At the local level, the question mark on President Obasanjo’s credential as a democrat is very big. We could not easily forget how he tore ballot papers for the election of new Olowu of Owu, Abeokuta in 2005 when his candidate lost in the elections decided by the King makers. Incidentally, his candidate, Adegboyega Dosunmu, who lost in that election, is forcefully enthroned as the Oba of Owu-Abeokuta today. Let us all hail Balogun Obasanjo, a “democrat” of note.

President Obasanjo has said that he has no regrets over all the actions taken while in office. A nation it is often said, gets the kind of leader it deserves. We can only hope for a better governed Nigeria as from May 29, 2007 when Obasanjo would hopefully have gone back to his Otta farm.

In view of the foregoing, lets give eight gbosas( one for each year of mis-rule) to the outgoing president and
