What am driving at is for us to have a criteria for defining 'africa hero' otherwise we have outsider(non-africans) deciding for africa who is 'african hero'

Outsiders were the ones who dubbed him an African hero. He has done enough for all Africans to be proud to call him a hero.

He is ways above any living African leader in patriotism!

They should have delt with their greedy leaders first.
Their land is despoiled because a lot of the leaders colluded with multi-national oil companies to neglect them. The leaders received millions of leaders from the oil companies without doing what they promised.
Nigeria paid billions into the accounts of entities like OMPADEC, NDDC etc, which were supposed to help develop the area. The money however found the way into froeigns accounts of their leaders!

These people should have been brought to book!

Politics / Re: Dollar Salaries: Court Orders Okonjo-iweala, Adeniji To Refund N206m by Bankole01(m): 2:02pm On Jul 21, 2007
It is a pity that Okonjo-Iweala and Adeniji got caught up in this, but laws were broken in the first place. It is clearly against the constitution to pay these people in dollars and above all other minsters.

Even if they could have easily earned these money in their foreign jobs, serving ones own country is a sacrifice and patriotic deal, not a for money venture.
They were apid these monies and need to return them.

This is another example of what mess Obasanjo made of Nigeria. We will for years try to clean up the monumental inconsistencies of this 'old thief'!

Why does the wife a governor need to travel in a convoy. This is an example of abuse of privilege in Nigeria. These corrupt so called leaders are the ones who exercebated the problem in insecurity in the nation. They stole all the money without giving a care to the securuty outfits. This is my message to armed robbers_ Please leave the poor people alone and concentrate of the real robbers of Nigeria. The kleptocrats, past and present. They have all the money!

Just pulling your leg. Mandela tried small. But the greatest African Hero of Modern time is Emperor Haile Selasie I. But they don't like mentioning him in european or texts because the man no let them colonise am.

Haile Selasie was an arrogant imperialist.
Mandela is a saint in Africa. The man is a legend in his own time. The number one patriot of Africa. If he wanted, he could have been president for life. he promised to and only served one term of office.
He sacrefised his youth and life for his people and nation. He caould have profited and become immensely rich like our thieving leaders in Nigeria, but he chose not to.

The only person in Africa who could have been compared to Mandela, is Julius Nyerere of Tanzania. 'The Mualimu' gentleman teacher, only served one term in office after helping his nation attain independence.

Only Nigeria leaders worthy of aclaim are all dead. Tafawa Balewa, Obafemi Awolowo, Sarduana of Sokoto, Nnamdi Azikwe. No leaders alive today will ever attin any such acclaim. Not 'third term cum life president and life BOT chairman' Obanasty Thieving Obasanjo. Not Yar'Adua (who is an illegimate president) nor any of the kleptocratic thugs who now call themselves leaders!
Crime / Re: Nigerian Beheaded In Saudi Arabia by Bankole01(m): 6:47pm On Jul 19, 2007
All drug pushers and dealers should be beheaded anywhere in the world. Drug pushing kills more people than any other vices. It ruins people and destroys families. It encourages and increases criminality. So my final verdict- all drug pushers be chopped (beheaded) like chickens. It is the height of indiscipline to become a drug dealers, importer or exporter.

Ignorant killing mobs. That is what muslims are. Once they are told to 'kai, yamutu da banza' the flood gates of mayhem are opened. the mob mentality deeds on itself and engulfs our ignorant cattle earers and beggars from the North. This is what is Islam is all about. They like to make noise about Southerns being criminals, but when is the last time you see one Christian denomination fighting another?
The last time we had any Christian uprising was during the inquisition. Look around you in all continents of the world, you see muslims bombing, killing, maiming, raping, looting and being generally unruly!
Serves the Sultan right. Now he can see that Christians are peaceful people, inspite of his diatribe about Christian evangelism. He needs to educate his people on how to be civil citizens and not barbarians!

Yar Adua should make electricity generation and stability the numberone priority of his administration as this will foster hope for the general populace.

you condemn Yar'Adua claiming that he was selected but you also go on to hail Gordon Brown for INHERITING the Prime Ministerial Position in the UK.

Why is it that we always accept anything "white" as right.

So would you have been any happier if Yar'Adua had inherited the Presidency? Nigerians! Condemning their own mistakes yet celebrating british crime.

Denex you have just exposed your lack of knowledge of the British parliamentary system. Also, you did not read the rest of my explanation.
The British vote for parties and not the person. The parliamentary members choose their leaders, who inturn form majority government.
Gordon Brown, was already a parliamentarian and second in command to Tony Blair. When the party decided to remove Tony (or Tony accepted to step down), it became incumbent on Gordon Brown to naturally step into the position of Prime Minister.

Yar'Adua on the other hand got an affirmative selection of one overbearing man and his errand thugs. This is the battle of illegitimacy which the Musa Umaru is facing. The albatross which will forever cloud his presidency and which appears to be confounding him!!!!!!!!!!

You have answered the question by citing Dubai. So there you are. Muslims ARE living in a civilized world.

However, rather than come in the guise of a question, why not make the statement which you tend to suggest us towards with your sermons.

The Question I want to ask you though is:

Can religious bigots allow Muslims live in a civilized world?

When it comes to intolerance, no one can hold the candle to muslims.
Innocent people do die because of government policy.

Dubai is developed today because the leaders wisely decided to open up their nation to the world unfettered.

denex:

@Bankole1

America has a foreign policy which is anti-Islamic. It doesn't just end there. They use this anti-Islamic foreign policy to bomb more than 100,000 Iraqis.

This justifies for about 100,000 Americans or people posing to be Americans or friends of America to be blown up to bits. I don't think the count has even reached 10,000 yet. So about 94,000 to go. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

That civilized world is a fiction of your imagination. In the real civilized world, crime still exists. Too bad it does.

Seun please write like a grown up. Crime exist everywhere does not equate senseless barbarism. When a section of the society take it upon themselves to visit mayhem on innocent people for perceived wrong done to them or their religion, this is uncivilized!

You must be living in a make believe world if you think enjoynig the pursuit of liberty and hapiness is purely immaginative. even Nigeria as much as we have made a mess a things, strive for this!

@Afam: You are right my broda, you cannot oppress someone and expect him to love you. American foreign policy especially under Goerge Bush had been anti Islam. playing double standard that is largely in favor of Israel. Does this however excuse you and I being blown to bits, buses with innocent children and women being blown up?

Sincerity come from broblems being discussed in a sensible way to find common grounds.

Dubai (U.A.E.) is a model muslim nation far from the norm. These people made a conscious effort to depart from the senseless and theocratic ways of Islam, opening their country to the world at large to help develop and made a success story out of.  They built two islands oul of the ocean for fantastic real estate. This is why Dubai is accepted by the whole world. The reat of the muslim nations can emulate them also!

In America and Europe, Islam has come to be and accepted as one of the main religions with a lot of adherents.
Mosques are revered as places of worship. Muslim clerics, Rabbis and Christians leaders are meeting to find a commom ground.

In some mosques however, in spite of the relative freedom enjoyed by muslims in the society, clerics still preach hateful rhetorics. There are recruitments ongoing for militants to kill, main and destabilise the tolerant goverments.

This is apparent in the 9/11 bombings of the World Trade center, the train bombing in Spain and the recent bombings and plots in Britain!

Muslims ask for understanding and at the same time, cause mayhem!
How can one distinguish between the people and religion that preaches and call for killing?
It is only in muslim countries that you have beheadings and amputations of limbs.
People will do suicide bombings killing innicent people in the hopes of going to heaven and receiving seven virgins as reward!

What sense does this make? do we not have educated and free thinking muslims who can relate independently with the civilized world!
Politics / Re: Two Months On, Yar Adua Is Confused, Yet To Make A Single Move by Bankole01(m): 2:31pm On Jul 13, 2007
The biggest problem Yar'Adua has is that of legitimacy. He is honest enough to admit the fraudulent way he was (s)elected. This is why he is looking for legitimacy from opposing parties. It has been a dismal failure, except for greedy political jobbers who are only looking out for self!
his second problem is he is overshadowed by the emperor of Ota! (Obasanjo). Obasanjo is the de facto leader of PDP and president by proxy!. Yar'Adua is a puppet do nothing figure-head as he was in Katsina. Yes he saved a lot of money for his State because he had no clues on what to do then and he doesn't know what to do now.

It is good to have an honest man running affairs of State, but a clueless figurehead is was than a rabble rouser. A leader leads by actively participating in government. Deligating duties to competent subordinates. when a leader is under to chose his own cabinet, it speaks volumes about him. Two months is too long to let the government languish. Nigeria's public sector has been too demoralized and destabilized to be let so long without any competent managers!

Someone said he handled the labour strike well! I beg to differ. The ocassion of the strike would have been the time for him to assert himself and free himself of the shackles of Obasanjo. He should have lowered the prices of the petroleum products. This would have endeared him to the people. On thje ASUU suspended teachers, he had no choise. So far, Yar'Adua has been stage managed by Obasanjo's hangers on.

Gordon Brown cannot in any way be compared to Yar'Adua. First of all, he inherited his cabinet. Secondly, he is the maverick behind the success of the British government. Tony Blair was theflamboyant leader of the party and Prime Minister. Gordon Brown was the real leader of the Labor party before Tony Blair, he was dull and they presented Tony as a person who was more acceptable to the public. Tony Brown was supposed to step down for Brown after four years but when Tony and the Labor partybecame immensely popular, it was agreed to let Tony continue as the Prime minister.  Gordon Brown practically single handedly ran the economic affairs of State. This, Yar'Adua is a far underdog at performing!

PDP chairmanship: Obasanjo rejects Okorocha, offers him options
By Halim Mohammed
Saturday, July 07, 2007

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has told Owelle Rochas Okorocha to forget his chairmanship ambition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saturday Sun can exclusively reveal.

Sources informed that Owelle Okorocha visited the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party at his Ota farm on Saturday, June 30 with an influential delegation of Igbo top chiefs including real estate tycoon, Chief Austin and Mr. Andy Ubah, Obasanjo’s former aide to solicit for his (Obasanjo’s ) support in becoming the next chairman of PDP, a post that has been zoned to the South East by the party.
It was gathered that despite Obasanjo’s good relationship with Uba and Okorocha and having worked for the ex-president as special advisers, Obasanjo poured cold water on Okorocha’s ambition when the Imo State born politician raised the issue that brought him to Ota farm.
“You cannot be the chairman of the PDP” Obasanjo was quoted to the have told Owelle Okorocha without dancing around the issue.

He was said to have instead told the chairmanship aspirant that he had four things for him which will make him more relevant in the scheme of things than she chairmanship of the party. Obasanjo was said to have offered him the chairmanship of the board of any grade A federal agency and an ambassadorial postion among others.
Saturday Sun gathered that she ex-president already has his anointed candidate in the person of a former governor from the South East.

“He thinks that if he installs the ex-governor as the chairman of the party his hold on it (PDP) would have been completed so that hawks waiting in the wings to hijack the party will be kept at bay”, revealed a source close to the ex-president. “He installed the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senate President despite oppositions from the hawks, so the only leg remaining is the chairmanship of the party so that he can have a party of his dream”, added the source.

However, it could not be confirmed if Owelle Okorocha took the ex-president advice but what Saturday Sun learnt was that from Ota, theImo State born politician took off in his private jet to Kano to continue his campaign for the chairmanship of the party.

It was gathered that among the chairmanship aspirants from the South East, the aspirant is heavily supported in the 19 states of the north to become the next chairman after Senator Ahmadu Ali.
It is because of this wide support he has in the North that gave him the confidence to approach the ex-president for his backing.

“It was Andy Ubah that suggested that Owelle should seek Baba’s blessing for his ambition.Despite Baba’s position, Owelle is undaunted” said a source close to the billionaire politician who was also on the trip to Ota.
