Are we seeing the last vestiges of Nigeria? Will Nigeria as we know her be here in two weeks?
Despite all of INEC's protestations, it is clear that Maurice Iwu has played a game of charade with the selection of candidates for elective offices, mostly skewed to favor PDP candidates.

Nigige, Okachukwu, Ladoja, Obi, Arararume, Atiku, Tinubu, etc, etc, all oppostion party candidates have been excluded from participating in the own country's elections!

It is reported that INEC is making the ballot papers available to PDP fatcats only!

The government is arming the police alarmingly, in what promises to be an assault on the ciitizens of Nigeria! (Having taken stock of 40,000 AK47 with mllions of rounds of ammunition, 30,000 K2 rifles with 10 million rounds of bullets, 10,000 units of Barretta pistols with two million rounds of bullets. )
In the guise of containing desent, the police will be let loose to cause havoc on the hapless citizens.

Unfortunately, the Executive, because of its monumental short-comings, has decided to make it a do-or-die affair, with AK-47 rifles rather than a piece of paper, the ballot which is the symbol of democracy.

What happens when the people of Nigeria refuses to vote Yar'Adua in, and the PDP known for rigging elections decides to force and impose Yar'Adua (and Obasanjo by proxy) on the people?
Do the police then open fire on harmless and armless citizens?

Brothers and sisters the signs are ominous and I am scared for my people. Is it time to bid adieu to Nigeria? cry cry

This promotion shows another inconsistence and recklessness on the part of Obasanjo. It also goes to showcase that Ribadu has been a bulldog used to hound the percieved enenies of the president.

Promotions within the rank is supposed to undertaken by the police commision board and not arbitarily by the president. what this creates is discordant in the ranks and could actually create a hostile working environment for Ribadu. It only goes further to showcase the illegality and lack for the rule of law of our president.

All you guys fronting for him now, what did he do as a senator other than praising OBJ and insisting on invincibility of pdp? Why all the love you are now showing for him? Is he not one of the pdp "rogues" you have been threatening to vote out? I can see your problem is not with individuals in pdp. It is with the name PDP.

You got it wrong sir: I don't give a damn about Ararume or Rotimi Amanaechi. It could have been Lagbaja or Tamedu, and my argument would have been the same. What is wrong is wrong! and we must always strive to be on the side of rigyteousness.
The fact is the PDP did what they did to circumvent the Supreme court's decision to spite a ccandidate whom they know they are incapable of controlling. This very undemocratic, wrong, vindictive and not about Ararume in the least.

Ararume might be a thug, who is not? Obasanjo, Kalu, Uba, Ali, Ojo Madueke, the list is unending. what we will have problem singling out of our bunch of politicians, is Who is above board, with clean hands?
Politics / Re: It Appears The PDP Is Not Power Hungry Afterall by Bankole01(m): 3:48pm On Apr 12, 2007
PDP not running for fielding guber candidates in Imo and Rivers States, have nothing to do with not craving power, it has everything to do with vindictive childishness.
The Yoruba will say, "kaka ki eku ma je sese, a fi se awadanu" for the rat not to partake of the bounty, he would rather waste everything, making sure no one gets any part of it.

Where does this translate to no being power hungry? The truth is Obasanjo and his clique are very dangerous people. If they are not in power, they will make sure no one (at least someone in clear opposition) gets it fair or not. This sets a dangerous prescedent and a clear sign of how low these greedy and selfish people will go.
This is also a clear omen that these people can plunge Nigeria into civil war to satisfy selfish and maniacal egos.

Politics / Re: Nuclear Power Plant For Nigeria by Bankole01(m): 4:01pm On Apr 07, 2007
wetinde:

Lephillipe and Bankole01,
I read your comments and think it is very unfair for you to sit wherever you are and gengeneralize Nigerians as having no culture for maintenance. The truth is if we did not have that culture Nigeria will be worse than Somalia or Zimbabwe now. Our people will do something if they know how to do it themselves. Our main problem is lack of free access to information to aid maintenance which is currently available and being exploited by the rich. The countries in the west took years to get where they are so do not think that when a pledge is placed it is going to happen that same week. Our people do not have patience yes but do not belittle our people with your talk because you have had a test of development in the western world. The people who left the western world with ideas and went to Nigeria to implement them do you now want to call them stupid. These same people would have to empemploy Nigerians to work for them or would they not ?
Abeg abeg abeg abeg abeg angry do not talk bad about our people. Is it not the same people that when they go abroad know how to maintain things. I am tired of hearing such negative words on forums.
A nuclear plant will be the start of great things . There will be steady supply to manufacturing companies i.e the steel companies . This will then facilitate the reduction in price of a lot of commodities since the overheads from using generators will be cut down. It might be a long way off but it will happen. I meet a lot of Africans all the time that respect our economy (though they might hate our courage and drive) and the fact that we always find a way to make Nigeria stay on top in Africa .
If you believe that the culture does not exist why not start by educating your own immediate people about better maintenance.

Abeg make I hear word

Like you, I am a proud Nigerian who has incidentally sojourned too long in America. That not withstanding, one has to tell the truth when it bears telling. The ugly truth that our people do not have a maintanance culture is evident in the peoples' homes themselves. They will allow their own houses to fall apart. How about infractructure, they are allowed to crumble on a daily basis, even when the government provides allowances for the maintenance.

I have been to many Nigerian homes here and I have to tell you that I am sometimes ashamed to be a visitor in these filthy homes. This, among those who won visa lottery to the country.

Back to the subject, nuclear power plant is no toy for a developing country, the chances for accident to occur are very prevalent even in advanced countries and would be too stronomical for Nigeria or any developing country. The technology is there for the highest bidder but we have to be very careful. Also, I know a lot of Nigerians who work for from NASA to local utilities out here, who can easily transmute to Nigeria with their knowledge. But without an enabling society and good maintenance record and tools, nuclear holocaust is a very likely scenerio. Look what monumental failure we have made of our simple gas turbines and hydro dams.

Romantisizing big projects, only sound good on paper and for chest beating. The way of the future is renewable energy of which we have been abundantly blessed.
Politics / Re: Nuclear Power Plant For Nigeria by Bankole01(m): 9:40pm On Apr 06, 2007
It is so romantic to think Nigeria will have nuclear plants. But lets get real Nigeria cannot manage a nuclear power plant. This is not denigrating Nigeria nor saying we don't have the expertise, but our people are just not responsible enough, and with the government underfunding the department, nuclear holocaust could happen.

We have to better manage what we have and improve on service. Solar and wind energy is a better alternative to spend our money on.

A new twist emerged in an alleged money laundering case levelled against Governor Joshua Dariye of Plateau State, when a London Court found guilty, convicted and sentenced the embattled governor's alleged accomplice, Mrs. Joyce Bamidele Oyebanjo to three years imprisonment.
The jail term, handed down by a Southwark Crown Court Magistrate to Oyebanjo, a housing tenancy manager, from Teresa Gardens, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, UK, marked a first conviction by the Proceeds of Corruption Unit of the London Metropolitan Police in their investigation of Dariye.

Its going to be a dark day in hell for all our klepto-governors, who fail to win re-election this month, as they will have no holes to hide in.
Britain used to be so official thieves friendly but they got innundated with the abaundance of Nigerian thieving officials so to save face, they have now turned against their erstwhile friends. We hape the rest of the Western World and the Caribeans will follow suit.
Jokes Etc / Re: A Nigerian View Of London by Bankole01(m): 3:50pm On Apr 05, 2007
On one of the News nightly shows, there was this Nigerian guy calling himself barrister Micheal trying to scam the investigative reporter out of $200,000, not knowing he was live on T.V. Its was hilarious. this guy claimed to be 36 years old, he was asked when and where he got his law degree and this dumb criminal said 20 years ago in South Africa. he could remember the name of the university and he was representing a Wendy whom he did not know what she looked like.

The reporter said you must be realy smart to graduate law school at 16, but this crook still not catch on that he had lied himself into a corner, he kept stumbling and bumbling his way through the 419. Eventually it was revealed to him that he was on live T.V and his lies and criminality revealed. It turned out that there is a syndicate of fraudster who use internet cafes to perpetrate their criminal activity.

419 is practised by every citizen of the world but Nigerians are so maligned that no one trusts us. If you condone this type of behaviour all in the name of money, remember you are part of the problem.

A long time ago while I was a cab-driver and student, one Nigerian guy told me he had found a way of making quick money and he proceeded to tell me. I stopped him midway through and told him not to tell me anymore if he did not want to end up in jail. He thought I was kidding and I told him no such stuff, that I meant it. This guy stayed away from me. Later, a lot of them got caught and went to prison.

"Ojo gbogbo ni ti ole, ojo kan ni ti oni nkan" every criminal will eventually get caught! be different stay out of criminality.

MAMAJAMA:

Abeg tell them Police na human like you and I. we want them to defend us but we are giving them flash light with no battery? customs and immigration are collecting bride just as bad as the police. go to Kutonu boarder and see

From a man who have seen both sides of the coin, being a Nigerian law enforcement officer in America, we command respect because we are well trained, well paid, educated and dedicated. Last a not the least, weare given the tools to do an effective work. A police officer/deputy sheriff (depending on counties you work for) carries on his duty belt a hand gun loaded with a magazine and two or three spare magazines, taser, cuffs, capsicon (pepper) gas, a nonshuck (baton) radio, flashlight, etc. These gear are permanent on the duty belt which you wear on your pants belt and secure with belt keepers. most of these gear are also provided by the city/county you work and could weigh up to fifteens pounds (you get used to the extra weight)

Not only is the academy rigorous, we have in-service (remedial) training every year and quaterly shoot to keep you sharp.

I know for sure that there is a police reform in the works to change the perception, attitude and standard of the police. The change in unuform is just a start and the laying off of the bad eggs is to send lessons to corrupt officers that things are onging to change the police force. Also too many people who do not belong in the force have uniforms to do all sorts of evil acts to the hapless public.

The police have been so neglected, underfunded, underpaid and used as personal body guards and errand boys for evil for a long time that morale was low and the officers had to supplement their income. This is in no way supporting their corrupt vices, but from a human point of view, they have been pushed to lives of crime, they are the products of the environment they live in.

With a better pay package, good training, public support and welfare and the tools (equipment) to do their work, we all will see a good force with dedicated officers who wants to make a difference and serve their community.
We all need to be on board to provide an oversight for the force also.
This brothers and sisters is why those western nations' police (law enforcement agencies) do very well.

Police are hated in every country by crooks and lawless people mostly. But when somebody needs help, they turn to them. So you see police are needed for a sane society.
Politics / Re: Supreme Court Slams Police, Inec by Bankole01(m): 3:48pm On Apr 01, 2007
Larufa:

The Supreme Court on Thursday berated the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC) for pitching their tents with the Presidency over the question of whether or not Vice President Atiku Abubakar still remains the number two citizen of the country after defecting to the Action Congress (AC).

The apex court was irked that rather than maintain a neutral ground on the issue, the leadership of the two agencies have associated themselves with the Presidency in asking that the seat of the vice president be declared vacant.

Meanwhile, the court has reserved its judgment on the matter till April 20, 2007.

On hand to take the bashing of the court, on behalf of their clients, were the two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Patrick Ikwueto (for Inspector General of Police) and Joe Kyari Gadzama (for INEC).

Justice Dahiru Musdapher first expressed his disgust on the role of the two agencies in the appeal. He frowned at the submissions made by the police and INEC and questioned their interest in the matter, particularly as it offends their constitutional function of neutrality and impartiality.
He asked: "What is the interest of the IGP in this matter? You got nothing to do in this case, (referring to the counsel to the police). What judgment did the Court of Appeal give against the IGP that you are cross appealing?

"The Inspector General of Police is to provide security and to maintain law and order and not to be political. In this suit, he is merely a nominal party. What is your business whether the office of the vice president remains vacant or not when a lot of crime is going on?" Justice Musdapher queried.
Also condemning the role of the police and INEC in the appeal brought by the Attorney- General of the Federation, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN), Justice Sylvester Onu took on counsel to the police, Mr. Ikwueto while asking him to sit down.

His words: "What is the judgment of the Court of Appeal against your client? You don’t have any business in this matter other than a nominal party."

Efforts by Ikwueto to wriggle out of the attack failed as he was ordered by the justices to sit down.
It was the turn of counsel to INEC, Mr. Gadzama, to take his bashing when he stood up to make his submissions. This time, Justice Tanko Muhammad took on him.
"You got nothing to do in this case. Your client INEC is supposed to be neutral, if Atiku ceased to be the vice president, INEC will not be called upon to conduct election for his replacement, it is the duty of the National Assembly," he said.

After all the parties in the appeal had adopted their written submissions, the court fixed April 20 to deliver its judgment.

The Court of Appeal had, in its judgment of February 20, 2007, held that Atiku remains the vice president till the expiration of his tenure on May 29, 2007.
In addition, the appellate court declared that President Olusegun Obasanjo had no powers to withdraw, tamper or interfere with or violate the immunity conferred on the Atiku as the vice president or direct his arrest or prosecution.

The court directed the Federal Government to restore all the paraphernalia of the office of the vice president to Atiku.

In yesterday's papers Maurice Iwu the INEC chairman tried once again to reiterate his neutrality in the ongoing election shenanigans, stating that no-one can compromise, bribe or coarce him to be alligned with them. As much as tries to do his double speak, his actions betray his protestations. If he is half as smart as he has been purported to be, he would know the only person decieved is himself. The man has been deluding himself for so long, he is starting to believe his on lies.

As for Ehindero, he is just another criminal police lackey of Obasanjo. By all standards and according to the service rule in the NPF, Ehindero should have been retired but he was retained to do the evil work of his master. While this incompetent man remains the head of the police force, they remain ineffective to curb the rampart acts of armed robbery occuring on a daily basis all over the country.
Foe how could this shameless man hold his head up in public and talk about an inept department which allows armed robbers to operate unperturbed for two to four hours sometimes only minutes from the nearest police station!!!

This and more is part of the inconsistencies and failure of this criminal, lawless and incompetent administration of Obasanjo.

Nigeria has been united more than ever, the cries of marginalization exist only in the minds of few rent seeking individuals.OBJ's government has given High profile positions to qualified minorities.
Infrastucture redevelopment is coming late all thanks to an un waiving commitment to global best practice and due process in award of contracts.A solid foundation has been laid for more work in Infrastucture development,a case study is the NIPP.
Education is undergoing a radical reform which would see Nigeria's educational system becoming world class, all thanks to a visionary minister appointed by Obj WHO IS NOW TO RESUME As a VP in THE WORLD BANK.
With his reform Agenda he is making an Impact in people's lives,it will take only the discerning to see it.Look all around you and tell you can't find a single landmark achievement of OBJ's leadership
EFCC,, Media is a powerful tool that makes people believe what they want the people to believe.Time would judge if EFCC is right in its approach or not

Sorry sir: I disagree that education is going through a reform. I am from the old school, a month of sitting for School Cert, HSC and the university which only the top students can get into. Schools were destroyed by the military, but Obasanjo when he should have helped improving the quality, was too busy engaging in words of attrition and war.
Democracy on th other hand, went to the dogs not to the people. Is a fact that most people jockeying for offices in this times of Obasanjo brand of 'do or die' politics are a bunch of thugs, thieves, cutthroats, unintelligent killers, who are out for self and not the collective.

Infrastructure is coming late! yea much much later if we go by precedence, even though inflated contracts have been awarded to friends and cronies of the president, we know nothing will get done and the people will walk away with money without any repercussions. What is the excuse of letting the infrastructure crumble amid a wash of revenue accruing to the nation. Go to Dubai and see what the leaders did with their oil money.

I will be a fool to say Obasanjo did not achieve or record any developments or good deeds, but he is like a man with his foot in his mouth, one step forward and five back.

The big chance to institutionalize democracy, unit the nation, sweep away corruption, good infrastucture, good schools which are not perpetually on stike, good health facilities, run away inflation, (what about water, light and housing-in Fela's words).

Rewrite a good constitution for the nation, not one to perpetuate himself.

The chance to realy make a difference in the people's day to day life, and not not making life harder for the people.

Any body that has sense of moral and sense of shame will be too weak to fight for votes, rather he will want to clear his name first before asking for votes. Atiku's got no shame.

Too true if Atiku realy love Nigeria as much as he professes, he will throw his weight behing Buhari and then work on clearing his name. If he continues to keep the opposition divided, then we will not be able to dislodge PDP. He needs to wise up for the sake of Nigeria.

Privatisation in the Nigerian sense means public utility or parastal auctioned to well ppositioned thieves who proceed to buy the entity with stolen money. The end result is Nigerians get the shaft. Even if a foreign producer wants to buy Nigeria's utilities, they would be stifiled with the endless bribes they have to give, for their shortage of outstretched arms. Changing the name of the electric company with the same incompetent management amounts to an exercise in futility. Obasanjo has failed woefully.
