I believe this is the only way Nigeria can move forward.

The elections should start with local governments first, move on to gubernatoral, house of rep and senate, the finally presidential.

So far, only Yar'Adua have been exornorated from official looting of States treasuries. That means they are all thieves. Igbo, Yoruba, Calabar, Ibibio, Hausa, Fulani or what have you. They with active connivance by the chief 'ole' 'barao' Obasanjo, partook in the despoilation of Nigeria!

Politics / Re: FG: NLC Strike Is Political by Bankole01(m): 4:17pm On Jun 23, 2007
The strike needs to go for as long as it takes to make Yar'Adua see reason and part ways with the brutal and regime of Obasanjo. There is noting sacrosant about reverting a policy of a previous government. We all know that nigeria can afford to sell petrol to the people for far less than N70. (maybe 40 -50 is in order) The people of Nigeria have been made to suffer for too long under brutal and insensitive regimes. We should all enjoy the fruits of the nation, as opposed to the chosen few who are 'dashed' oil block franchises just for being friends. If Obasanjo and his cronies had not made a mess of the turn around maintainance of the refineries, we can refine the oil ourselves and sell to the people at an affordable rate to Nigerians. (No one is telling us what happened to the hundreds of millions of dollars appropriated for the maintenance and who were contracted for the jobs)

Even though the strike will bring hardship to people right now, it will bring sanity back in the long run.
My own mother will suffer as I am not able to send money to her. I can't send money to pay for the running of my farm either. This affects all of us irrespective of our land of abode.

If he realy wants to do what is right, he should organize new credible elections. True representatives of the people will be elected. Sovereign national conference needs to be convened to right a true constitution for the nation.
Until he does all these, he remains illegitimate!. He is only doing the biddings of his emirs and alfas, who want to pay Obasanjo back with his own deceitful coins!

AS much I don't like the Abacha era with his killer goon squad of which Al Mustafa was the chief, we are also witnessing the illegality and brutality of the Obasanjo era! The reckless flaunting of the law, characterized Obasanjo's administration. By extention and proxy, this is the inheritance of Yar'Adua. Will he be able to overule Obasanjo and finally give Al Mustafa a trial?  This will define the man, whether he is his own man and therefore has spunk or maybe he is just an opportunist jellyfish!

The President also directed the Solicitor-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to be on standby and facilitate the implementation of the judgment as soon as they were served its copies".

Obasanjo fu**ed up when he selected Yar'Adua as his succesor. He had wanted a toothless stooge who will 'yes sir' all his directives. Now, his chickens are coming home to roost.

Inspite of the silly kindergarteners who write diatribes about the Yoruba, Igbo and Yoruba have always lived and interacted well together. Go back in history and you will notice that both AG (Awolowo)and NCNC (Azikwe0were the main opposition parties. My father though a Yoruba man, was a memeber of the NCNC. These two parties came together to form the alliance party UPGA. Those were giddy days when politics was a game for the intellectuals.

All the fly by night parties need to come together and form a formidable alliance against PDP. This is the only way Nigeria can be rescued from the thugs in PDP who have hijacked the instruments of government. We need to put our petty differences aside and do what is right for our dear nation. The intellectuals among us have failed ourselves, our people and nation.

Travel / Re: Nigerian Dies On Deportation Flight From Spain by Bankole01(m): 5:29pm On Jun 14, 2007
In line with the discussion on hand, the foreign nationals have no respect for us because we lost respect.

I was unfortunate to witness such barbaric deportation on one of my visits to Nigeria. This guy was being deported form Armsterdam by two officers. They had him lie on the floor of the back sit, and they had their feet on top of him. I was going to the bathroom when I had someone complaining. Looking around, I sawthis guy on the floor scurming and complaining of being treated like an animal. They simply told him to shut up. I fely pity for the guy, but he put himself in the situation!!!!

Our peole when they get punch drunk and full themselves, go on pompous rides. They will go to foreign countries and flash foolish stolen money around. They talk loud, wishing everyone to hear their loud boasts. They are always chiefs and princes/princesses. They are rich government officials, who think they get respect just because they are able to spend money foolishly. They pretend to have all this class and polish when the foreigners know all is not well at home.

They will bribe their ways through anyone and anything. They corrupt and despoil wherever they go. They steal from their own people to hide in another man's land, whil their country goes to ruin. Can anyone realy respect a man/woman like these

In most western nations, almost no one except the very poor and illeterates carry any cash atall. On a given day or days, I don't even have a dime in my pocket. With my credit, debit cards and checks, you can buy whatever you need anytime you want. To see anyone paying for things with huge amounts of cash, almost denotes insanity. That person is looked upon as a drug dealer or thief. In most cases, the profile is almost always correct.

We have lost so mush respect to even dark skinned people of other nations, talkless of white people. Yet, our governement cowtow to white people, kissing their butts and giving them contracts for indredulous amouts of money, as long as they get kickbacks.
They pay billions what a project which could have been easily excuted at home by indegenous conttractors for less money.

Our people go to all lengths to escape from home, breaking all migrant laws to live in a foreign land. Some already in the countries know nothing but how to steal and break law in search of ill-gotten wealth! These and more breed animosity against us. So whenever one of us is caught, he is made to pay for the sins of many.

When we have bad elections and some say its okay and we should live with it for the sake of peace, others are watching, laughing and loosing respect for us! Then, we complain they don't like us and treat us like animals.

Lets face it we behave like animals attimes!!!! We are loud and uncouth!!!!!!. Until we start to respect ourselves, doing things in a civilised way, people will continue to treat us with disrespect and many will die at the hands of their authorities.

Blame the man in the mirror!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Afam:

@Bankole01,

So, what are you suggesting? That Yar'adua steps down and hands over to God knows who?

Can you just state what you expect him to do so we can get a handle on this issue.

Since you asked, I will profer what my wisdom dictates.

Now that Yar'Adua is on a roll to confess that all is not well and Nigeria's April elections were a sham, he needs to preside over a new set of 'free and fair elections'

First, an electoral body by act of the NASS has to be convened. This body will be truely independent and have its budget approved and appropriated to the NASS only.

There will be a new national regisration conducted to register everyone who so wished.

Elections will then be started when all registers are collated and delievered to their respective wards.
Local government elections will be done first as these are the points of access to the public. All hands will be on board to make sure they are free, fair and above reproach.

Guber elections will follow, where again the same standards will be observed.

Senate and Representative elections will follow, with same standards.

After all the peoples' representatives are comfortably elected, we will then have a presidential election. Yar'Adua himself will be allowed to freely participate and so will anyone who wins his party's primaries.

If Yar'Adua wins the election and is able to preside over a trully democratic process whereby true representatives of the people are elected, he will win the hearts of Nigerians and the nation will be on the path to greatness.

Until he does these, he will forever be tainted and his government will totter on the brink of disaster.
Politics / Re: Umaru Yar'adua: My Election Not Free And Fair by Bankole01(m): 2:49am On Jun 12, 2007
THat Ya'Adua would have won in a transparent election is a moot point. The fact remains that the April (S)elections were not 'free and fair'. This is the only relevant situation on ground. The citizens of Nigeria were cheated and disenfranchised ans Yar'Adua's presidency remains illegitimate and lacks the people's mandate.

even if he forms a government of National unity, The only beneficiaries will still be (opposition party people not supported by the people. Where does this transfer into acts to ameliorate and sooth the people's weary and oppressed souls??

Even with a governmaent of national unity in the federal, what about the several selected senators and assembly members The PDP south to make Nigeria aone party State and have largely succeeded!!!!!! How do you redress this?

What about the various States where (s)elections took on a new form of brigandage? You now have glorified thugs, thieves nad gangsters running the affairs of several States!!!!! How do you redress these? Do you form governments of State unity in these places? Who is going to make these Obasanjo thugs to form such goverments??

Yar'Adua cannot run a just government of a faulty foundation. That will always follow him no matter how honorable his intentions may be.
He is starting on a wrong leg and all his efforts will come to nought for this simple fact of lack of mandate.

As much as there have been irregularities in American elections, especially under george Bush, it is a far cry from the blatant charade called April elections in Nigeria!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Here is the problem, we are too comfortable accepting irregularities. to us, the end justifies the means!

Oga Yar Adua, it is NOT about mere civilian to civilian transfer of power BUT that the wish of the people is what prevails!!

This is the problem with our people. The thinking that it matters not how you get to a place, as long as you get there in the end is all that matters.
Here is a president of a large nation going to the G8 summit and telling them "I am illegitimate, but you have to forget how I got here and work with me"
How can somone like that be accorded any kind of respect??

But then on the other hand, where do we go from here? Even the US congress fears an ING has the potential of causing a military coup.
I believe the whole elections should be scrapped, form an interim govrnment and conduct new elections for all tiers of government.
The electoral body should be convened by the judiciary to implement impartiality.

Never at any time in my life have I felt so hopeless and cheated. The apathy in Nigeria has never been lower than at this time. This the legacy of Obasanjo who is now forming a paralell government to make sure his wishes still overshadows the puppet government of Yar'Adua.

President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua again on Thursday admitted before the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban-Ki Moon, that the process through which he became the president of Nigeria was faulty.

He said, “The April elections had flaws and shortcomings but it is significant that for the first time in our history, we had a civilian to civilian transfer of power

http://www.tribune.com.ng/saturday tribune 09.06.2007

I guess there is hope for Yar'Adua if he can be truthful with the people and seek remedies to the anomaly which is Nigerian entity and form of government.
He knows the process which ushered him in was a fraud  unprescedental in Nigeria's history.
The idiot Maurice Iwu and Obasanjo have continued to live in denial (parting their own backs and giving themselves pass marks) about the sham elections which sought to make Nigeria a one party State. Even the legislators themselves were not allowed to freely pick their own leaders. What can we ordinary people do. They have nothing realy to complain about as they are the beneficiaries of the sham (s)elections. But we as ordinary disenfranchised citizens are very much agrieved and we have a case to prosecute.
This just can't be swept under the carpets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now we know Obasanjo is deranged and with no one to write his speeches, his true self is being revealed. His reasononig is that if Nigerian's marry many wives, the women will be taken care of. A sort of job and wealth creation.

The outgoing president as a passing gift to Nigerians decided to raise the pump price of gasoline to N75 fron N65. This time marking the seventh time he has done.
At the inception of government eight years ago, he promised to do the turn around amintenance of Nigeria's refineries.
He further went along to release $700 million for the project.
We all know no work has been done on the TAM of the refineries and Nigeria now inports fuel.

SO what happened to all that money and who was given the contract to do the repairs??

Clearly, Obasanjop has a case to answer or his corruption fight is nothing but a smoke screne!!!!!!!!!

Even though there are conflicting reports as to the amount allegely found on the police officers, I have no doubt about the veracity of the story. The fish rots from the head down they say, and this has proven to be true about Obasanjo and his gang of criminals. He surrounded himself with crooks who did his evil deeds.
What I believe is the true amount of money found is 200 million naira. A first batch of 27million was first apprehended. On further searches, the rest of the money was eventually found. Ehindero is a crook, this much we know in the way he has prosecuted his job and and persecuted the citizens of Nigeria.
The inept, corrupt and listless man could not solve any serious crimes. Armed robbery became a game for high school kids under his watch. Yet he was always ready to shoot innocent people.

Watch the news in the next few months, the rest of Obasanjo gang of thieves and thugs will all meet with disgrace. Then, their crooked emperor will meet with doom!!!!!!!!!
Politics / U. S Congress To Hold Talks On Nigerian (s)election by Bankole01(m): 10:42pm On Jun 03, 2007
American Congress has invited Innocent Chukwuma, chairman of Nigeria’s Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), to testify before its hearing on the recent general election and the unrest in the Deep South.

The hearing takes place on June 7, Sunday Independent can confirm from a letter sent to the TMG office from the U.S. Congress office in Washington DC.

TMG, a domestic election monitoring group, has handed down scathing criticisms of the conduct of the April elections and called for cancellation of the exercise.

Chukwuma had said in an interview: "My opinion on how the election went is best captured by the title of the report issued by domestic observers after the presidential election: An election programmed to fail. In every aspect of that election, you cannot escape the conclusion that the election was programmed to fail."

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday in the U.S, and is at the instance of Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Fellow Sub-committee on Africa and Global Health.

Alarmed at the reports by local and international observers, Washington had threatened to review its relationship with Abuja if it found to be true, allegations that government subverted the will of the people at the polls, because "an unstable Nigeria threatens regional peace."

"Congressman Donald Payne, Chair of the Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health, has scheduled a hearing on the recent Nigerian presidential election discussing the results, recommended reforms and U.S. policy initiatives," read the invitation signed by Reed Genora, a U.S. congressman.

"Discussions will also include the crisis in the Niger Delta and escalating ethnic/religious tension in certain parts of the region. I would like to invite you to testify as a witness. The hearing is scheduled for June 7 at 10:30am," the letter which was sent to Chukwuma explained.

The unimpressive conduct of the polls rankles Washington, which perhaps informed the cold reception President Umar Musa Yar’Adua received on his visit to the country just before his inauguration on May 29.

U.S. invested millions of dollars in the elections, which outcome, analysts say, threatens national cohesion. A Congress spokesman had said democracy could fail in Africa if Nigeria’s civilian to civilian transition hits the rocks.

For the TMG, the elections were anything but free and fair. Chukwuma had said in an intervie
interview that failure to cancel the results, as demanded, would mark the "beginning of the end of the Fourth Republic."

His words: "This is because no society, no nation, can endure the level of criminality, the level of robbery – armed robbery – of the people’s mandate that we saw on April 21. The government that will emerge from that kind of election would have legitimacy and credibility problems. The government, from day one, will have vociferous opposition.

"The government will not be able to implement its policies, especially those that have to do with corruption. How can you fight corruption when you are a product of corruption? How can you preach transparency when you are a product of an opaque election? How can you call out people to follow you when the people know they did not vote for you in the first place? If they allow this to go on and if they pretend that it is business as usual, we can as well say bye-bye to the Fourth Republic. In my history of monitoring election in Nigeria – I started in 1993 and I have also monitored elections in Asia and other African countries – I have never seen this level of robbery.

"Even the National Democratic Institute (NDI) that had monitored elections in over 100 countries agreed that the level of fraud in this presidential election is monumental. In its report, it says the level of irregularities, lapses and malpractices it witnessed in the election is the worst.

"That means that the level of fraud in that election was unprecedented in the world. I can’t see how it will work. They may pretend about it; they can use the police to harass people and even arrest some of us who are saying the truth, but that will not help us, that cannot stabilise the government."

When Sunday Independent asked the TMG chairman whether the body will honour the invitation to testify even after the new government had been inaugurated, Chukwuma said: "Why not? We will be there. The inauguration has nothing to do with what we are being invited for. If anything, it willl even help in our testimony."
