The US never wanted Venezuela to be autonomous which never augur well with Chavez, when the US govenment see his rebellious act to their policies they stoped oil purchase from the country and being a country overdependent on oil, it find it difficult to survive. US used to purchase over 90% of their oil before the crises. That is the simple thing that happened.
