I have been saying this for about 8years now. If a sound investigative journalist dare to delve into the power sector matter, he or she will win a medal. The corruption in that sector from end to end is one of the craziest, if not the craziest. |
Before we crucify this man, let's query the data. He didn't say 40% of Nigeria's population, he said 40% of Nigerian Electricity Consumers. The title of this post is either a click bait or sheer ignorance on the subject matter. According to the regulator (NERC), as of July 2024, Nigeria has 13,293,739 electricity customers. This count is not per capita. It is a count of verified customers connected to the National Grid. On the 20Hours p.d claim, the minister simply referred to the population of Band A customers which is significantly increasing by the day. While the 20hours of power supply p.d is not absolute, it is however empirical. Let's cut the Honorable Minister some slack. |
HeadNigga:Poor them! Found this on their website: https://www.enugudisco.com/index.php/feeder-compliance/band-a-feeder-availability It can give a guide. Alternatively, you can ask their officials or check the receipt of your next electricity unit purchase. |
HeadNigga:Visit the website of the DISCO serving you. NERC gave DISCOs directives to make provision on their websites where customers can verify their respective bands. |
Kukutenla:Supposed Analysis! |
Kukutenla:I did not make "it look as if only TCN can turn off load". I never mentioned that in my comment. In fact, I only referenced a particular situation. You just want to sound intelligent and you are not doing it well. You cannot squeeze me into you line of thoughts. My comment is my comment. Item 2 in TCN's response is not factual. They are communicating to laymen in the field like you who appear to have little or no understanding of power systems, therefore, the information should be factual and not misleading. People can take that item 2 against Discos when they give reasons for shortfalls being "load limitations from TCN", saying having power on 11kV feeders is solely within the Discos control. |
Kukutenla:First of, my focus was on Point 2, so before you rope me into your "conjuncture" point, kindly refer to my initial comment and try to understand the context of my comment without emotions. I know the facts you apparently don't know. To answer your question, at the instance of the case I mentioned in the comment you quoted, TCN instructs the DISCO to drop their energy off take, meaning some 11kv feeders are turned off by the Disco, OR they (TCN) themselves turn off a 33kV feeder from their end for balance. This is why I take a stand against that item 2 in their response. It is just an attempt to absolve themselves of the blame in the eyes of the public. It is not factual. The power on 11kv feeders is a chain reaction. |
Kukutenla:So let me educate you (if you don't know) If there is load limitation at a transmission station where the 33kv feeder emanates from, the corresponding 11kv feeders tied to the 33kV feeders are turned off, for balance. Who knows if this was the case? So it is not out of place for a DISCO to say TCN is the reason why they couldn't supply 20Hrs power on a band A 11kv feeder, if a similitude applies. |
Cooleasy:Yes it can but would require more infrastructure (more capacity arrangements- More solar panels, higher Inverter rating, more batteries etc) so people hardly use solar for those inductive and non-linear loads. |

You see that point 2 is a lame excuse. There can never be power on an 11kV feeder without power on the corresponding 33kV feeder. That was a lame buy out of their fault. If you fail to give power to a 33kV feeder, how can IBEDC give power to their ISS that will transform the power to 11kV feeders. But Nigerians that don't know this things will just start blaming the DISCO. If only Nigerians know that most limitations faced by DISCOs are caused by this TCN guys. They are always playing defensive. |
pol23:Social Media penetration at the time was lower. |
vowiski:...till September "From London to Lagos" |
References1:It is erroneous to say no area enjoys 20Hrs power supply since privatisation. Nigerians who enjoy Band A services should speak against this emotional statement |
We don't know what we want in this country. Cost of most goods and services have increased, and we expect cost of power to remain the same, forgetting that FG is the one paying the subsidy all these while. We blame them for spending too much, now they removed subsidy on 1 of the 5 bands, Labour Union want to shut down the country, if they removed it on all nko? We want growth but we don't want to pay the price. |
Omooba77:This is not our Average tariff This information is not correct because it is shows the tariff of only Band A |
Eriokanmi:Can you share a link to the news of PO visiting Mr. Ibu in the hospital or show a picture like we see of the Cartons of Indomie donated by him somewhere? I want to believe you. |

goaldynboy:Kai! May God heal you and your kind, who think the world is against them when the truth is told. My response was solely for those who attributed audio "24/7 power supply" to him. You called me dumb yet you are the culprit here. Ignorant fellow. By the way, it's Geometric Power Limited, not Geometry. Olodo oshi! |
People praising Alex Otti for "24/7 Power supply" in Abia state are completely ignorant people. How was he the one that did that? Where is the 24/7 in Abia state? Jokers! |
Starboytwo:There was no love in the first place. That gender looks for the advantage they can benefit from you from day 1. Fear that gender. Their loyalty and "love" ends when the advantage they benefit from you is exhausted or when they find a better alternative. A woman's love is always subjective, don't trust it. |

Do people still think like this? Power bank can be used anywhere in the world as a means to charge your mobile device on-the-go. It doesn't mean what you are trying to say. If person dey cry, e suppose to dey see. |
Aaaaarghmed:You are trying so hard to make sense. Sadly, you couldn't. Small minded fellow. |
Nomerci:Keep crying doesn't change the fact that she's a good lady and I love her. |
Feintline:Go and ask DisCos that have increased tariff time and again, they have never increased salaries. Kudos to BUA cement for the initiative. |
Odewaleadesoye:Not in all cases. Them don show me shege |
Xwizard:This is love! |
nairalanda1:Wahala ti wa o |
LibertyRep:It is not an extortion scheme. The model used by DISCOs is what is wrong, which is why NERC introduced capping that was neglected by DISCOs. This neglect is what they are fining them for. If there is no meter, a model will be used to bill customers. The actual energy consumption reading cannot be accurate hence the value is estimated viz the name estimated billing. In this case, your energy consumption should be estimated on reasonable model because you must pay for the energy charge. Unfortunately, DISCOs hide their inefficiencies under this menace called estimated billing. |
