TravelMost White People think Africa Is Slum, My Experience With A Ukrainian Guy. by Basalt(op): 10:04pm On Jan 12, 2021
During our normal 30mins break at work last night, we were gisting about the pandemic and world politics, something lead to another and one guy raised the topic of Africa mismanagement of their natural resources and dependent on western countries for their products.
I kept quiet because the guy that raised the topic was a Camerounian but surprisingly, a Ukrainian guy supported him and started talking about mismanagement of resources by African leaders. He mentioned the case of UAE that used her Oil to develop their country but Nigeria mismanage their own resources and are now among the poorest countries in the world.

I don't really like our politicians, but I was irritated by the comment poor. I told him that contrary to his comment that Nigeria is actually the richest country in Africa and even twice richer than his country Ukraine by GDP.
He doubted me and we all instantly confirmed everything online before he believed.
I ended by telling him that we all have our own problem and if his own country is as good as heaven, he wouldn't have come to Germany.
I really observe that they underate Africa a lot even all these poor eastern European countries.
TravelRe: Canada Hype And Travel Rush: Here Are Things You Need To Know by Basalt(m):
Watch out people, this was the exact advice that held me back for years in Nigeria earning less than #30,000 as a private school teacher hoping to be among those that would make it to Forbe list.

I lived in such imaginary illusion for years before I came back to my senses and traveled out to Germany for my Msc, and through my part time Jobs, I came to realize what salary actually means.
The first thing I did after arriving in Germany was regretting not leaving Nigeria earlier.

Since the OP has started giving you Stat ask him to give you the Stat of the total number of Nigerians making it to Forbe list.
The last time I checked the Forbe list, I doubt if I saw upto 4 Nigerian names there.
Four out of over 200miliion people.

You see ehhh, I hate unfair analysis. You guys should stop discouraging people.
If Nigeria favours you, good but just understand that it doesn't favour everyone.

I was actually angry with the OP until I saw his last points. He said it all, if you are doing well in Nigeria stay, but please if you are not doing well, please find a way to leave, come back when you have made money.
Nigeria hardly favours the poor, I have lived in for over 25yrs of my life and believe me I saw it all.
I have lived abroad for almost 2yrs and I can tell the difference.

Comparing Nigeria to abroad is unfair unless the person is from a wealthy background,, if you are not from wealthy background or from the background of the elite, it's not a fair comparison at all in all ramifications.

May God continue to bless your hard work... I have noticed people have different experience in Germany.. I have read about somebody on nairaland here who lived in Siegen, didn't work for almost seven months after arrival but still had good testimony of how he later made money in DE while studying even with good grades in his studies...

I am assuming most Nigerian students are very poor with multitasking because in Nigeria, it is mostly just a narrow approach of studies alone in our universities
Thanks so much for your prayer.
Your assumption is not entirely correct. MSc in Germany is really not easy, very soon you will realize what I just said if you finally see yourself in Germany. Arriving from Nigeria, you will be met with many things you were not used to. And Germans are not easy to please, they themselves are very hardworking and expect you to be hardworking too.
Many bosses (Chef) here come to work early and do overtime, unlike in Nigeria where bosses mostly come late and go early. They have a hardworking spirit in their veins.
The first course I did here in Germany, I failed simply because I didn't have time to participate well in our group task due to my work. I thought because one of the group members was in good terms with me, he would cover me up. They wrote an email to the lecturer telling him that I was not serious in my group work, and that was it, I failed., as if that was not enough, I also failed my language course because according to my school rules and regulation. you must not miss more than 3 times, I missed four times due to my work.
All my messages to the lecturer to allow me to write the exam did not yield any fruit. He replied "I am sorry, there is nothing I can do about that". I sent him another emotional email hoping that he would be touched, but he never replied again till now, I failed the A1 exam.
Remember, in Nigeria, I was among the best graduating students and never failed any course before but in Germany, I failed two courses in just one single semester before I got myself and went the extra mile and learned how to take courses small small while working on my personal and financial development. I understood fully that the number of courses you register is not really as important as the number of courses you pass. Germans are very strict people and are not moved by your cries and emotion. They don't really understand what it means to say I am sorry when you do something wrong or break the law

My point is this, don't assume people are not multitasking, it is really not easy, and this statement is fully understood when you come here yourself.
The reason why I am going the extra mile is because of my family background, I know that I don't have many options. Some people here have siblings scattered all over the globe and their papa hold cash, so they have many options.

Yeah, I have since recovered but really learned from it.
In general, I didn't actually lose in MMM even though I lost my last PH which was 500k.

But really if you calculate what I have gained and minus it from the 500k I lost, the gain is about 2x more.
I was lucky but my brother wasn't.

promise2:
Hey Bro i will come back to you on how you made this money in Germany that runs to millions of Naira, to be frank with you i spent 3 years and half in Germany as a master student in Berlin 2016 to 2019, i worked my freaking ash off, combining work and school in Germany is not easy. well i cant say Germany is not a good country per say but they are not friendly people whether in suburbs side or big cities. i got tired of ich bin this ich bin that and besides after my study how many percentage of international student get jobs, few of them most start all over doing 2nd master i calculated all of these i took off. I am happy today i did, i can understand what they speak where i am, i see happy people around me infarct I am so happy.so i guess you are one of the lucky ones in Deutschland .
Hahahahahahaaahahah, when I got my German visa, this is exactly how people reacted. The question on their lips to date is HOW POSSIBLE? , because to them it seemed impossible since I came from a very poor family.
They all thought maybe I won a scholarship or something like that. In the place I work at night, I opened up to one of my colleagues that I have another job (mini) in addition to my studies which I don't joke with, he thought I was joking. He asked HOW ON EARTH CAN A HUMAN DO THIS STRESSFUL NIGHT JOB AND STILL DO ANOTHER JOB, AND TO THINK THAT HE IS EVEN A STUDENT... IS THAT POSSIBLE?
I found out that people always ask HOW in my case. All glory belongs to Almighty God.
Well, that's apart.

I agree with you, Germans are not friendly. They hardly talk to you if you don't talk to them, and they are strict too. They are mostly introverts but honestly, they have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world. The problem is that we find it hard learning the language. Some of us don't also have the intention of learning the language. Deutschland is not English land, we need Deutsch to go far in Deutschland. if you intend to live in Germany, then you need to learn the language. If we can learn the language to at least B1 and pass the Goethe B1 test before graduating, it will go a long way in widening our employability.
The good news is that it is no longer compulsory that you must get work in your area of discipline which means you can as well learn a needed skill and get work in other fields if possible or even leave the country to settle in other countries, the main aim of almost every person that left Nigeria for studies in abroad is to remain in abroad after his or her studies.
It is extremely rare to see anyone who plans to return back to Nigeria.

So anywhere at all that gives you the opportunity to stay after your MSc, why not?

RomanceRe: 6 Rules You Shouldn't Break As A Guy No Matter How Much You Like A Girl by Basalt(m): 11:32pm On Jan 02, 2021
allgoodlight:
There are some things you shouldn't be seen doing as a guy. If you want to be respected as a gentleman, and you want to protect your self-respect and dignity, there are some rules when it comes to social relationships that you should not break, no matter how much you like a girl.

Girls like guys that have self-respect, and that explains why you should never break these six rules, no matter how pretty a girl is, or how much you like her.

1. If You text a girl on social media and she doesn't respond, don't text her again

This is the first rule when it comes to social relationship. You don't want to appear as being thirsty or over-demanding, you have to remain classy even when you're texting a girl for the first time, which explains why you shouldn't text her multiple times if she doesn't reply the first text.

2. When a girl accepts your friend request on a social media platform, don't go into her dm and start typing, "Thanks for accepting my request" or "Thanks for following me back", if you do so, you'll make her feel too important, and she'll start seeing you as being immature.

3. Before you enter a girl's dm, make sure she's the one that asked you to.

Don't just enter a girl's dm without seeking her consent, she might not respond to you if you don't seek her consent first. And since you want to appear as being classy and cool, you need to seek her consent first, before texting her for the first time.

4. When chatting with a girl online, don't bote her with too many questions

You don't want your conversation to turn into an interview, so when chatting with a girl, make sure you don't ask too many questions. And if you'll be asking any question at all, make sure they are not dead-end questions, that is, yes or no questions.

5. Don't be all over a girl's social media pages

Just like I said earlier, you don't want to appear as being thirsty or over-demanding, so you shouldn't be all over a girl's social media pages, liking her pictures and commenting on all her posts. You should never do that, no matter how much you like the girl.

6. Don't always be the first to initiate the chats

You need to know if she's interested in having a conversation with you, and the only way you can get to know is to wait for her sometimes, and let her initiate the conversation.

It doesn't necessarily mean that you are ugly, I think the person is not entirely wrong, you have a Goat face though I disagree with him by using ugly, you are not ugly at all, the GOAT is a very cute animal.

I think you are the one trying to be petty here because if you actually took your time to read Nairaland's law, you should have known that number 21 is what I pointed out. I never meant to attack him in any way.
Few mistakes can be tolerated (nobody is above mistake) but when the whole post is full of error, misspelling, and punctuation omission, it makes the post very hard to read and understand and I believe that is the reason behind the number 21 rule.

good for you my guy. but you are right depends on the way you see it. not everybody is chasing the money bag in the general scheme of things . life is more than working and saving money for me. dont get me wrong i like money , i made a few too considering i came to germany with almost no money (100-300 euros).i only say this because you made it sound like making money and getting citizenship is eveything there is to it.
to make things clear, first you cant really make as much money as you want to unless the money that i think you making makes you happy(key point) as a student since we are students for now. even after graduating germany have among the lowest salary range even for tech jobs. that socialist argument is crap , i can explain on other post. this is just for arguments sake ,i dont really hate this fact of germany.
second , language thing might actually depend on people , some people are good at learning languages some are not. accepting that should come naturally for a happier life.but from my observation most students and seniors or graduates dont really speak german ,most gave up or are just at the intermidiate basic level. that means thats enough to get by,work and stuff.
one thing you mentioned here is the possibility of getting a job without german, again i think you missed the idea of the post. i know you can get a job from my own observation in tech, but again if thats okay for you , thats not a problem.i read on reddit that this working folks who dont speak much of german feel like they dont fit in outside work.
personally i think the language is representative of everything the germans are , difficult. lol
unless you become german yourself, meaning speaking in par as the natives and understanging the culture ,wit and everything else that makes germans germans , it could be difficult.
here is the thing i just dont see myself being a robot , just working and lacking sense of belongingness if that makes sense for you . in germany no matter your status , money or skill you have you are still an aüslander . thats not the case in usa, uk, canada in my opionion and research(which i do very well, i was just being modest to get poeples opionion here, lol) , i can not see myself settling in a country where seeing black dude/girl is not common for the locals that they turn and look at you ,lol
where my kids be "odd" ones in the flock , no thank you.
here is my ideal place to settle...common language, friendlier people, you are not seen as an outsider.
interms of job , i am mature enough to accept finding job is difficult everywhere. canada is no different.
and since you ended with a quote for you . ignorance is a bliss ,lol . no offense
There are really some inconsistencies in your post which I boldened and again please pay special attention to spellings and punctuations and start each sentence with a capital letter, it makes the post easier to read and understand especially if it is long.
Well, just as I mentioned earlier, we are all different and we see things in a different way.
From your post, I suspect maybe you study in the smaller part of the country or Eastern Germany, I heard that they are more hostile to strangers. Bigger cities are more international and friendly.

I am also interested in moving to Canada . After living here for 1 year , I have a mixed feeling about Germany . I could give it time but anybody who is Germany knows that regardless of amount of years you stay here the majority find the language and the environment unbearable . I say this because I talk to almost all students from Africa and India and Pakistan . Most have the same feeling ....a lot of complaining , lol
Lol, I am one year and three months in Germany and my own story is different.
Well, let me start by saying that we all have different ways of seeing things and we are all different.
I really love Germany. I have saved alot of money within my 1yr 3 months of being a student, I mean millions of naira.
Imagine what will happen if I stay for five years here. I see myself really making waves in Germany honestly.
If language is a barrier, then break it, also consider going into the IT field because they demand lesser German and there are more opportunities there too.
My number one priority after my studies is being a German citizen by either getting a professional job or by marriage.
Then after getting my German citizenship, even if I must leave Germany, then it must be in a country with a higher probability of making more money, maybe I can try the USA or Australia but not Canada. Canada is obviously poorer than Germany and their Economy is tied to oil which is declining now in value due to the recent global adoption of renewable energy. I also heard of the high rate of unemployment among educated people without Canadian experience to the extent that many Ph.D. holders drive Taxi to make money. There are many qualified individuals living there due to the express entry and whatever you think you think you know, there are thousands who know it better thereby making the competition higher especially if you don't have Canadian experience.
For me, it is one of the best countries if your aim is permanent residency because they give it faster than most countries, but if your aim is making lots of money, then America and Australia offers a better option.
The cost of living is also very high thereby making you earn to pay bills and save little, and the weather is very cold.

Not trying to discourage you but make sure you do your research very well before jumping from frying pan to fire, it's not easy anywhere and the devil you know is better than the angel you don't know.

So you call buying a land and building a house investment? If you can't find a solid business you can run from Europe with a good returns, then forget it.
Bro. Investment doesn't necessary have to be long term. You can buy something sharply, ship it to Nigeria, cash your money and be on the lookout for another opportunity.
Get good and reliable contacts here in Nigeria, go for machineries like lathe machine, milling machine and other industrial machines which are swapped out from their factories and must be very cheap, get good shipping company and you're good to go.
Don't mind your friend, he is just being a typical Nigerian. Not surprise if he's a Yoruba man with "Aro tan" .
Invest your saved millions in what can aid your travelling back and forth from Europe to Nigeria.
The problem is that with German student visa, you are not allowed to do business.
Many people are telling me to help them import cars with their money ready but I can't, I am restricted by my visa.
I just need to get a permanent residency then things will be easier
