Polluted water by oil firm lands five villagers in hospital On March 29, 2012 · In News 1:00 am By Emma Amaize WARRI— FIVE persons, including a mother of six from seven riverine communities of Delta State, have been hospitalised after drinking suspected contaminated water from a river, allegedly polluted by Agip Oil Company in the course of dredging activities in the communities. A representative of the communities, Mallam Yusuf Eregebene, who confirmed the hospitalisation of the five persons to Vanguard, listed the affected communities as Opuapale I, Opuapale II, Ogorigbene, Perekiri Zion, Telemotu, Ebimiekumoghene and Asisagbene. A member of Opuapale I community, Mr Kingsley Ogu said medical report of the victims confirmed that the sickness was caused by the pollution of the river, which is the only source of water supply to the communities. A leader in Ogorigbene community, Chief Isaac Ogboye , lamented that Agip had paid deaf ear to their concerns since the dredging activities for access canal in Grangbene Deep A and B Oil and Gas well locations stated. Their representative, Mallam Eregbene, said besides polluting their water, the dredging by Agip had affected the fishing occupation of the people and the company had not bothered to come to their aid, while hunger was the order of the day in the communities. He said the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, had directed the Ministry of Oil and Gas in the state to intervene in the matter and when a meeting was called, last year, Agip officials promised to alleviate the sufferings of the peopled, adding, “Up till now, we are still waiting for them to fulfill their promise.” Community Relations Manager with the company, Mr. Albert Ijuwe, when contacted, said, “If you are really a reporter with Vanguard, you should know Agip Office, I have no information to give you.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/03/polluted-water-by-oil-firm-lands-five-villagers-in-hospital/ |
I asked for this two years ago and there was strong support for it, but NL never took it up. You can read more here: https://www.nairaland.com/377207/seun-kosovo-request-development-subsection |
What sort of story is this? Somebody needs to go to jail for the needless loss of life. ![]() Its not like we are in the phucking stone age or something. Why can't we just bloody do things properly, on what planet does one hear that lift doors open between floors? I keep saying our embrace of chaos is the single problem that has kept Nigeria from developing. |
I pray that the authorities can bring the kidnapping saga to a quick end. The robust reaction of the people as a community is heartwarming. The gang members must be found and dealt with by death or law. |
dont8: In your dream! Good policy - Implementation = ?Do you oppose private ownership of trains and rail lines? I find a lot of the responses to be incogent and directionless. |
Ozegbe: i actually intended this post to be some kind of joke...but i will note insult you because i have never insulted anybody on this site and will not. remember he who calls anoda a fool is destined for HELL. ABut that joke has made you look bad in peoples eyes. It is a pretty expensive joke; one of mega proportions. It is the joke that is so deeply engraved in many hearts, that the nation lacks the self-belief required to develop. Believe in your identity. |
@ndu_chuks This desperation is beginning to make you look like a jester. Devote this energy to consoling Mr Njoku when he is laughed out of court. |
oradee: and the palliative buses??Why not ask about boats and aeroplanes too when the topic is trains? Stop having an accident with logic. |
yemmight: What you are not sure, dont say it here. Akande started his 2nd term last year, so where is ur 9 years?Lolzzzzzz! Who "elected" him na? Das di kueshion. ![]() He is the life chairman, just like Mugabe is life president. Mugabe is much better though, cos he at least goes for elections. |
I will write a program that does "xyz" is different from i'm currently writing a program that does "xyz". GEJ/His cabinet is still on the i will part, when will they move to the i am part
I am sure you xyz programme requires planning and time, not magic or witchcraft. Statements like the above have no meaning and are best not uttered. More positive folk would be thinking about how to presure their reps and senators, instead of making negative statements that have no foundation in logic. |
Lol! Google is only trying to stage manage a "contest" because they were the first browser to fall at Pwn2Own 2012, and they fell within 5 minutes or so of the start! ![]() http://www.zdnet.com/blog/security/pwn2own-2012-google-chrome-browser-sandbox-first-to-fall/10588 A bad place to be with all their hype. Its a secure browser, though. |
State Assembly celebrating a mans birthday?!! This is how you recognise personality cults and dictatorial types. |
This is the sort of move we need. It should be supported. It is important that the FG loosens its grip on every strategic sector of the economy: first PHCN, oil is in the process, rail etc. These things should be handed over to states and the private sector. Slowly, but surely GEJ is weakening the FG and moving us closer to true federalism. Nice. |
Nigerians are childish. |
Transport minister promises quick passage of Railway Bill Wednesday, 28 March 2012 The Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Audu Umar, has assured that the Railway Amendment Bill would be given accelerated attention and passage by the National Assembly. The minister gave the assurance on Monday, while speaking as chief guest, at a three-day conference organised by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Africa Forum, which took place in Rockview Hotel, Abuja. Pointing out that the passage of the bill, which is currently before the lawmakers was in the overall interest of the country, the minister said he was prepared to use his influence as a senator, if need be to lobby his colleagues to ensure that the bill was passed during his tenure as minister. He expressed his conviction that the passage of the bill would become the only panacea that would open the rail transport sub-sector up for private-investor participation, boost rail transport development and use across board by Nigerians, noting that this might not be possible until an enabling environment which the amendment targetted was provided. Chaired by an Ibadan High Chief, Adebayo Sarumi, the dignitaries at the conference include the President, CILT International, Professor Allan Waller; the President, CILT Nigeria, Emeritus Professor Michael Filani; the Vice-President, CILT Int’l and Chairman, Africa Forum, Mr Teete Owusu-Nortey. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/38335-transport-minister-promises-quick-passage-of-railway-bill- |
This sort of thing wouldn't happen if governors had to generate income with a positive balance sheet for their states to survive. True federalism is the only way forward for Nigeria. |
DivideUs: @beaf your oga is starting to get my respect with the south Africa thing and now BA, if he keeps it up i will campaign for him com 2015, but he needs to take more steps because this idi88ts are starting to take us for a joke. he should also look into this their outrageous visa charges.I agree with you though that we have to put our foot down firmly with certain foreign companies and countries. These clowns have grown used to seeing Nigeria as a place where anything goes and the people as donkeys they can hitch a free ride on. Such insults and exploitation must stop. With things like this, we will slowly begin to develop the self-pride that is necessary to push forward and develop. By the way, GEJ is not my oga, I am just a fan. I believe he is a man of the people as he has shown over and over. Not just with the SA and BA actions, but with the airlifting of Nigerians out of trouble spots like Libya and Egypt; it was the first time in our history that such concern was displayed by the FG. |
The price disparity is not only in Business class. It is also there in economy! Why do you guys always jump into conclusions!!! Check vanguard home page here and see the table. http://www.vanguardngr.com/epaper/2012/march/28032012/index.html
Don't mind 9ja's jare. Many of us don't bother to read details. |
ACN appointed its life chairman (Bisi Akande) 9 years ago. It has also had a life leader (Tinubu) since it started. The same goes for publicity secretary (Lai Mohammed) and ALL other ACN posts. Far from democratic, it is a hegemony. As for electoral offices, they all go to Tinubu's cronies and family. Democratic? Lol! |
Promote swimming? Swimming is already a usual practice for those dwelling in the riverine areas especially the Ijaws unless the aim here is to create cleaner swimming areas. However I'd rather the fund spent on cleaning the polluted rivers.
Swimming for recreation is not the same as for sports. Nigeria should be hauling medals with the natural abilities in the area, but there is nothing to harness it. |
In saner climes, Tinubu would be in prison. |
Omen100: shut up my friend, if you don't know anything just say you don't know, so that those who knows can show you the part way of knowing. which diligence are you talking about? ignorance is killing Nigerians faster than I thought. It was jonathan's wife "madam umblala" that was meant to be the deputy governor because she a powerful stakeholder of pdp and also a founding member of pdp in belyesa state, but instead she asked they to present her husband. Even till today, jonathan is not a grass-root member of pdp in that state.Stop telling people to shut up, especially when they are correct. Alams saw Jonathans diligence and selflessness as a director and sent missions to invite him. GEJ was totally unimpressed with the rough style of Nigerian politics where anything goes and he bluntly refused. Alams had to send 3 missions to plead with him before he succumbed; today he is the President and is changing the rough style of politics to something more civilised. Thank God. |
CyberG: ^ Thanks for getting the gist! I see many failed attempts to lighten-up the ignorance of a few people who only listened to a few stories told over a place of akpu and eba here! This goes for all the e-warring tribalist parties on NL. Now, the usual tribalists get all touchy and defensive when people call them out firmly but truthfully. Can someone show me the llie in my post? Truth is tribalists are dark-hearted, soulically black and any attempt to light up ignorance with knowledge liberates the younger ones who are just hearing buzzwords and indoctrination.I guess the only reason my name is there is because I push for an SE/SS political alliance. I don't care if that pains you, bro; it only shows you don't know the meaning of ethnic bigotry. Next time you write a least, make sure to include only the real ethnic bigots Eko Ile and Gbawe, it is not enough to mention mekusx who no longer posts. |
elamx: How on this earth, you will enjoyed stealing I think it is a spell on him because from what I read so far he is a technician why on earth will leave that lucrative work and said he enjoyed stealing that is bad even if the magistrate give him along term jail I doubt if he will change. He might have mental problems. You never know. |
dayokanu: Abeg go find either boyloaf or tompolo to share kai-kai with. Is it 50% ethanol that you guys are consuming tonight?Anybody seeing this post would think you are a child of 3, not knowing that you are a pot-bellied grandad with wire-like hairs in your wrinkly arse. All hail ACN! Party of choice for rascals. |
dayokanu: All hail Beaf: Retardeens asslicker. The drunken fishermen. How many bottles of 45% pure ethanol have you consumed this evening?Abeg, go and look for somebody in the motorpark to fight or beg a LASTMA operative for some slaps. Those are the people in you category. Maybe Aregbesola or Tinubu can suggest one of their area boys from Mushin or Fadeyi. All hail ACN! Party of choice for agbero's. |
190: If they told those two hungry people standing close to JonaVery wise words. |
dayokanu: Answer the question or you want another schooling again? All hail ACN! The party of choice for NURTW members. Fascist party for bigots, please go on and defend your bigotry, it is expected from ACN members. |
diluminati: Onlytruth should be tried for treasonI want to secede with you, my dear. ![]() |
dayokanu: Reetardeen asslicker, Was Gowon not from the minority? How come he ruled for 9yrs, But to push the agenda of the victim president, the drunk fisherman It must always be one lie or the other now its because He is from the minorityYou never fail to sound like an NURTW fighter. I am sure there are cultured members of ACN somewhere, it can't just be your type, the Aregbesola's and the Tinubu's. |
shymmex: Lmao! Just because I troll on here don't mean that's me. FYI, I may be more academically qualified than you. I want to talk to privately, can you send me a PM?No hard feelings, but I will not communicate outside NL. |
