So its not inconceivable that the arsonists were carrying out their frustrations against those whom they perceive to be responsible for their plight? I am not condoning their actions by the way; I am simply advocating that burning a campaign office does not necessarily translate into political agendas and opportunism.
How can a 13 year old boy become so frustrated that he wants to carry out an act of arson? How would a 13 year old have known anything about campaign offices?
13 year olds tend to express their frustrations (which are very simple at that age) directly to their parents, not embark on targetted political hits.

Someone sponsored the kid for political reasons.

However, there was a mild drama soon after the press conference when chairman of Kano chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Isa Yunusa Danguguwa escaped being arrested by plain cloth security operatives who laid ambush for him around the venue of the briefing at the Old Campus of Bayero University, Kano.

GEJ spoke very well and hit the subversives squarely between the eyes.

His govt was elected by the people, not a section of the people.
No section has the right to attempt to topple the govt of the entire country.
The Nigerian electorate did not vote for the subversives, talkless of giving them the mandate to negate their decision at the ballot box.

If GEJ says such subversion will never occur again, I hope he is ready to play hardball, dish out devastating straight jabs and confounding uppercuts to mentally realign and totally discombobulate to enemy.

My dear, I am neither Yoruba nor Igbo, so what are you driving at? I guess you are just desperate not to face the unfolding reality.

I wonder what is shallow about pointing out that your glorified hoodlums where sent to burn down political campaign offices? Do you think the price of petrol is set in such places? Maybe in your World such things do not count as dirty politics, but in the rational World, they sure do.

For the most part, the anti-subidy removal riots were geared toward distabilising the country, by creatures of the night for their dark purposes.

What does a 13 year old know about subsidies? Even more disturbing, why would a 13 year old, a mere child who is inelligible to vote be found attempting to burn down a campaign office?

Lets hear you give answers that ain't shallow. Lolz!

Police arrest 38 suspects in Kwara •Over stealing, extortion and burning of Jonathan’s, Saraki’s campaign office
Written by Biola Azeez Wednesday, 18 January 2012

THE Kwara State police command has arrested 38 people, including a 13-year-old boy, alleged to have taken part in the stealing, extortion and burning of the campaign office of President Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Bukola Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, popularly called Mandate House, during the protest against fuel subsidy removal last Thursday.

Parading the suspects at the state police headquarters, on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dabo Ezekiel, said 14 persons were arrested for allegedly looting and burning the campaign office located at Adewole Estate, Ilorin, the state capital.

He said 13 people were arrested for extortion, while 11 were nabbed for causing grievous hurt on people and mischief by fire.

The PPRO also said the suspects were arrested on the alleged criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, theft and mischief by fire, contrary to section 97, 346, 287, and 337 of penal code law.

The police spokesperson, who said the suspects were arrested by three different teams of special anti-robbery squad (SARS) and detectives in the state, added that five persons were arrested at the scene of the incident while nine others were caught two days later.

He said some of the suspects were met at the Mandate House stealing valuable items like pillows, tyres, mattresses, generating machines, life rams and chairs before the campaign office was set ablaze.

Mr Ezekiel, who regretted that the protest was hijacked by miscreants, who he said took laws into their hands and caused injuries to people, added that none of the suspects belonged to any political party.

He said all the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were completed, urging the general public to go about their lawful business without any fear as the police was committed with the protection of their lives and property.

Kwara police parade boy, 13, others for alleged arson
By Adekunle Jimoh, Ilorin24 minutes ago

The Kwara State Police Command has paraded a 13-year-old boy and 11 others for allegedly torching the campaign office of President Goodluck Jonathan/Bukola Saraki/Abdulfatah Ahmed during a protest against fuel subsidy removal in Ilorin, the state capital, last week.

The command’s spokesperson, Dabo Ezekiel, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), yesterday addressed reporters in Ilorin.

He said the command arrested 38 suspects for alleged stealing, extortion and arson during the protests.

Ezekiel said 14 persons were arrested for allegedly looting and burning the campaign office located at Adewole Estate, Ilorin.

But the Chairman of the Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Rafiu Balogun, said: “The arrest and detention of a 13-year-old boy is illegal and barbaric. He ought to have been kept at a foster home and not a remand home, which is meant for adults.

“The offence allegedly committed by the minor is ordinarily a bailable offence. Besides, the laws of the land do not allow such a small boy to be lumped with adults. Our society has ruined his life due to ignorance. He needs proper counseling and not punishment. I will talk to the Commissioner of Police and take appropriate step.”

Majority of comments here are racist inclined.
Thank you. You hit the nail on the head.
No racist would ever see any wrong in the words of another racist.

Can anyone fault the disgusting degree of racism in the post below?

nagoma:
When we librated Niger Deltans from Biafra we ensured they had places in schools and universities. From 1970 - 1975 about 30 % of entry into ABU was from the Niger Delta. They (Niger Deltans) were the only group not from the 19 Northern States who enjoyed the special arrangement of School of Basic Studies started by joint arrangement between the United States Government and ICSA (Interim Common Services Agency) of the Northern States to prepare youg men and women for entry into universities. The majority of them were sponsored by ICSA.

Now just because the President was born near a Nigerian oil well he becomes infallible and any move to correct him is termed treason.

What is wrong with these people?
What about this?

cap28:
I wish these dumb SS and SE fools could get it through their thick skulls that Goodluck Jonathan doesnt give a damn about them - he has now been granted entry into the elite class therefore his interests lie with that group not with the poor masses.

He is more likely to allign himself with a rich northerner than a poor igbo or ijaw person because those are the people whose interests he represents and defends not the poor masses, look at everything he has done since assuming office - which group of people have benefitted? the poor or the elite?

Tribalism is a card played by failed and corrupt polliticians like Goodluck Jonathan in order to deflect attention away from their unpopular policies - like this one.

He plays the card only when it suits him and if you are stu.pid enough to buy into the lies you end up being taken for a ride - which is what is going to happen to all those SS and SE people who decided to think with their anuses rather than their brains.
Or this?

I have lived with my cousins in Port Harcourt where I ended up having friends who happens to be majority Ijaw, generally, IJAWS are well meaning people and they are naive/easily manipulated, Nobody really represents them in Nigeria,

I have tried to let them know that they don't have any representation in Nigeria and same with Yorubas and Igbos etc, What you see in the West are well guided persons who love their people. Femi Falana, Tunde Bakare, The Kutis, Fawehinmis etc, are not Yoruba leaders; instead are Yorubas who are fighting for not just Yorubas but Nigerians generally

Ijaws on the other hand have no leader willing to do anything for them specifically. Ijaw communities remain the same even after all the things of militancy etc, Things have always been the same, Is Ben Bruce a Yoruba? No, he is Ijaw and if you ask him where he stands, trust me, he hangs Lagos on his heart any day! Forget that Lagos follows other Yoruba states as a political bloc, we are all LAGOS over here by the atlantic and whether Ijaw or whatever, you will see things the Lagos way which is by extension the Yoruba way. You will see Ijaw youths among the protesters in Lagos, You will see Igbos, Isokos, Hausas etc,

If you don't understand the sophistication the Yorubas have attained, you are most likely to call them traitors, parasites etc, They will fight their own which some of you will call betrayal but we see it as discipline. We don't own Nigeria and we don't think only Yorubas should get there or anything of such, we actually want a Nigeria where anyone is anything positively. To accuse us of Tribalism in this protest is ignoring our sacrifices for Nigeria's democracy. We lost lots of our geniuses to attaining Democracy not for Yorubas but for Nigerians, We will support you when you do good hence why some of outsiders think we are aligning with the North; same north that all our kinsmen politically fought and lost their lives?. But the truth is we hate Abacha doesn't mean we must hate Ribadu by tribal extension. Don't hate us for that. Also, don't hate us for not aligning with other "southerners" only when you need to politically sabotage "NORTH"
Yar'adua senior fourth and fouth till death against Abacha, the Yorubas also fought Abacha but even that doesn't make Yaradua our friend because he fought for his own reasons, our kinsmen fourth for there and the reason Yorubas, Yaradua senior fouth Abacha could be conflicting so no enemy of an enemy is a friend thing. We were OBJ's nightmare during his terms and we suffered under him even though he is Yoruba. Why would ACN vote for Tambulawal? Even when PDP presented a Yoruba candidate (ACN won Yoruba states majority of ACN reps are Yorubas doesn't mean ACN is a Yoruba party)

Fela Kuti (Yoruba), was one person against Abiola (A Yoruba), People outside the Yoruba's sophistication will see it as betrayal but we see it as not seeing everything in black and white, That's a simplistic way, you called us parasites because of oil but we have been the ones voicing for you to have total control over your oil. We just want our civilization and development to continue. We don't have friends or enemies as these are seasonal relationships in the mental cycle.

UNDERSTAND OUR SOPHISTICATION AND YOU WILL BE NEUTRAL TOWARDS US NOT HATE OR LOVE

WE ARE NOT TRIBALISTS BECAUSE WE HATE OJUKWU or Jonathan or IBB etc, Even the said Ojukwu owned properties in Lagos have we ever threatened to confiscate or destroy them? Stop spreading propagandas about us, as many of you in Yorubaland have seen if we were spreading 1% of the propaganda you spread about us about u, you won't be anywhere near Yorubaland.

SOPHISTICATION: CAN WE GET THAT BACK FROM YOU GUYS WHILE WE C0-RUN THIS NATION?

As for me o, I will say hold your assets valuable commodities like GOLD because currencies are bound to fluctuate but be cautious about it because most commodities are tied to the $$$. For instance, the Yuan fluctuates regularly that's why Chinese Govt is ALWAYS devaluing their currency. What ever you choose, both economics, finance AND Politics play important roles, Again just my own opinion, this is not in anyway an investment advisory, grin grin grin
The value of the Naira is tied to the value of oil.

For one thing, Sahara Reporters is known for fake news, for the other, a man running a campaign organisation is usually seeking political ties. There are many who jumped up and down in the last elections and gained nothing.

The level of snake-tongued posts on display here is crazy. People would think that the man was arrested by an ACN govt. Some people talk too much and create problems for themselves with the amount of hatred and bitterness they carry in their everyday lives.

It is the sort of treachery and lies by the ACN supporters here that has resulted in tanks rolling on the streets of Lagos, and assured that ACN's meagre LG chairmanship positions in other parts of the country will shrivel away. What a waste of humanity!

[li]Have they demonstrated because their governor (even if he is among the best) is doing fuckall, but go to Abuja with a begging bowl?[/li]
[li]When will they demonstrate because Lagos should be paying revenues to the FG instead of collecting a monthly free money cheque like an invalid?[/li]
[li]When will they demonstrate because their LG chairman is nothing but a waste of space?[/li]

It makes people look like fools driven by dark, ulterior motives when they neglect the obvious wrong under their noses and reach up to the FG. Thinking people begin to wonder if the real reason is that their LG chairman and governor are people like them, while the President is a stranger from God knows where, that can be attacked at will.
You are only fooling yourself.

Many of you are too ignorant to know what the country requires to move forward, that is why you make yourselves into stumbling blocks for a govt that is setting things as they should be.
If you want an example of what your LG should be doing for you, then take a close look at the pic below. It is a 35MW LG owned power station in the UK. GEJ has given LG's and states the go ahead to generate power, maybe you should be protesting the reason why your LG is still a phucking dump attached to an intravenous drip of FG welfare money after 51 damn years. It would seem that Niger Deltans saw the protests as ethnically prejudiced and so stayed away.

There are 10 years olds "occupying" Kano and Kaduna. In the raid on the government house a few people were shot, among the dead are 12 year olds and 15 year olds.
What do these kids know about the fuel subsidy? They could only have been brought out by bigotry; therefore Niger Deltans did well not to protest.

In any event, what right has Falana got to question anybody elses choice of action in a democracy? Who the hell does he think he is?

The statement reads: “My movement was illegally restricted by armed troops in Lagos.  At about 7.30 this morning, my movement was rudely curtailed at Maryland, Lagos by armed soldiers who claimed that they were under strict instructions “ from above” to prevent me from leading or joining fellow Nigerians to continue the popular protests against the illegal increase in the pump price of PMS or petrol.

“Shortly thereafter, the members of the Joint Action Front (JAF), who were on a peaceful march from Yaba to the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, were teargassed and dispersed at Fadeyi in Lagos by a combined team of armed goons without any justification. I have also received complaints of unwarranted harassment  of other unarmed protesters in several parts of Lagos. At about 1 a.m this morning, the Freedom Park  had been  illegally surrounded with armoured tanks by soldiers who subjected innocent members of the public to intimidation in a desperate bid to prevent the resumption of protests against  the removal of fuel subsidy.

“It is unfortunate that Dr Goodluck Jonathan, who rode to power on the basis of the series of protests held in Lagos and Abuja by civil society  organisations, can deploy armed troops to attack the same  forces. It is on record that  no protest  was staged in Niger Delta at the time either by militants or Southsouth leaders. Those who have opportunistically read ethnic motivations to the struggle of the Nigerian people against the fuel importation scam and gross corruption in the country will soon live to regret their action. Xmas Day bombing: Police retrieve laptop, documents from Boko Haram suspect
By Yusuf Alli16/01/2012 00:52:00

Barely 24 hours after the arrest of a Boko Haram suspect, Kabir Sokoto, alleged to be behind the Christmas Day bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State, the police have recovered a laptop and sensitive documents from him.

Also, the Police may collaborate with other international security agencies to trace the suspect’s link in London.

The suspected mastermind of Madalla bombing was arrested, alongside a serving military officer, on Saturday at Borno Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He had sought assistance on Friday from the Permanent Secretary in charge of the Lodge to sleep overnight before catching a flight to London on Monday morning.

But security agencies on his trail got wind of his presence at the Lodge and raided the place on Saturday.

Findings by our correspondent revealed that the police have started investigation into the activities of Sokoto and how he masterminded the Christmas Day bombing with others.

A police source said: “We have started probing the Boko Haram member and the military officer that was in his company as at the time of the arrest.

“The police investigators have recovered a laptop and some sensitive documents from the suspect.

“We are analysing information in the laptop and the documents. One curious area of investigation is about the mission of the suspect to London. We are trying to find out whether he was going to meet some of the sponsors of Boko Haram or Al-Qaeda leaders.

“That is why we will collaborate with international security agencies to uncover his mission to London. The police are also on the trail of other suspected accomplices in the bombing of the church.”

There was tight security yesterday at the Ministry of Defence; Defence Headquarters; Army, Navy and Air Force; and Police Force Headquarters Annex in Area 10, Abuja.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The government has decided not to take things for granted, that is why we have the tight security measures everywhere.

“All sensitive installations and offices are also under 24 hours surveillance, in spite of the five-day strike action. We have adopted a pre-emptive approach to check the Boko Haram menace.

“The government is working round the clock to keep every part of the country safe for all.”

FUEL SUBSIDY PAYMENT: EFCC raids PPPRA’s office
Written by Dare Adekanmbi Tuesday, 17 January 2012

IN line with  the presidential mandate to engender accountability and good corporate governance in government, especially as regards payments to oil marketers as subsidy, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, visited the Abuja office of the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).

The visit of the anti-graft body, it was gathered, was to give effect to an order from President Goodluck Jonathan that payments to oil importers be scrutinised.

It was leanrt that officials of the EFCC have also commenced investigation into the alleged acts of graft and misappropriation in the importation of petroleum products with a view to bringing culprits to book.

EFCC spokesperon, Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed the visit to the Nigerian Tribune in a telephone chat, said the commission had impounded some documents it obtained from the agency's office, adding that it was the beginning of subsidy payment probe.

Uwujaren explained that the early stage of investigations would be  focused on the fuel importers/marketers to determine who got what and why.

The spokesperson further explained that the anti-graft body would go through the obtained documenmts with a fine tooth comb so as to ascertain the vessels that imported petroleum products, as well as authenticating the origins of the imported products and the truth about their costs.

According to Uwujaren, “there will be a foreign leg of the investigation to determine the true price quoted for products at the time of purchase so as to verify the claim of marketers.”

He stressed that the investigation would be thorough, leaving no area untouched, while reiterating the position of acting chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Larmorde, that arrest of culpable suspects would be the final stage of investigation.
