The Nigerian Labour Congress on Thursday lambasted President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as a "dull leader" who lacks the capacity to govern a complex country such as Nigeria.

Speaking in Abuja at the launch of a book ‘Time to reclaim Nigeria’ written by activisit Chido Onumah, the organisation's Assistant General Secretary, Denja Yaqub, said Mr. Jonathan was not deep enough to understand the implication of some policies he is trying to foist on Nigerians.

So tell me am i the only person that sees him as a clueless leader. The fact is that the guy has been shining under other ppl, time will tel so no need to argue with you cos your mind is made up.

why must u insult ppl when ever you post your replies, is it a sign of weakness?pls try and change the whole world is not against or your oga.
If you insult the President of my country, I will insult or do worse to you. Its a simple calculation that the average nematode might not get.

Dont mind the fools Jare. I have never seen such a group of hypocrites in my life. There is nothing wrong with criticizing a sitting president. It is normal for a leader to take the stick. But what we have seen lately is nothing but a script. A tribal script and it is sad. Even the worst criminal in the world still does some good some times. But these guys just come out here and insult the president with every opportunity they get to type on their PC. Even for actions that are most commendable they still find a way to wave it aside and try to paint it bad and call the president all kind of names when they really don't have any point to buttress their statement. It is pathetic

Beaf got this from your article so pls explain more cos you cant tell gej has the liver to broker that kind of peace alone without someone behind him.

“The President told him, Mr. Vice President, you cannot go to the Niger-Delta, even Britain, everybody had written a no visit order to their citizens at the time. He (Jonathan) was given a last minute opportunity when he volunteered to go to the creek to ensure that without war, this matter is resolved. Against all odds, the President told him if you think the military should not be used, you go home and talk to your brothers."

“Interestingly, our late President had an opportunity never to accept t or to accept he counsel of his vice president. But he accepted because he believed while he lived the fact that Niger-Delta had suffered so much and needed attention in terms of development. Today, he is no more, but two years of our marking amnesty, we gave him the glory”
The fact is that, GEJ got us the amnesty as the article clearly states. You can chase your market womans fantasies wherever they take you, it makes no difference.

You only have a fools impression of reality, because you have chosen to be blind. You are not as powerful as IBB, Atiku, Buhari or Ciroma are you? Where are they and who put them there?

I have heard you but can you please proved evidence that GEJ was the one that drafted the amnesty program instead of Yar'adua. I'll be interested to know the info because that is not what I have been reading:
This is a recent eyewitness account to some of the intrigues that gave birth to the amnesty. The fact that GEJ is quiet and unassuming should not allow any ND person live a lie and believe that Yar Adua who bombed villages from the sea, land and air, a man who carried out crusades that saw old women openly rap'ed in the streets somehow came to a humane deal with the ND. That revision of history has to stop:

Why Jonathan visited Tompolo’s militant camp in 2009 – Kuku
Emma Amaize

12 October 2011, France, PARIS- Special Adviser to the President on Niger-Delta and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Committee, Kingsley Kuku has explained the circumstances surrounding the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the dreaded militant den, Camp 5, in Delta State in 2009.

President Goodluck Jonathan who was then vice president had visited the dreaded militant den, Camp 5 to confer with ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, and other Niger-Delta agitators.

Kuku, who was one of the three persons that boarded a presidential jet with Dr. Jonathan from Abuja to Warri and proceeded with a boat, guarded by militants from Escravos to the den, where former militant leaders from across the region were waiting for him, said it was to save the Niger-Delta region from being destroyed by the military.

The special adviser who spoke at a programme in Paris with the French Institute of International Relations, facilitated by the Hope for Niger-Delta Campaign, HNDC, a Non Governmental Organization, NGO, based in The Netherlands, founded by Comrade Sunny Ofehe., said that nobody, including the nation’s top security chiefs , gave him (Jonathan) a chance of returning to Abuja alive because of the fear of militants.

Kuku gave the glory of the final declaration of amnesty to the late Yar’Adua and said the former President had already given the military the red flag to commence a cleansing operation, but it was put on hold against security advice following the counsel of his deputy, Dr. Jonathan that he should be given a last minute opportunity to reach out to the leaders of the fighters.

“You cannot separate former President Yar’Adua from President Goodluck Jonathan in terms of the amnesty programme , we owe the glory of the amnesty programme to Yar’Adua, the military had been given the red flag to commence cleansing military operation in the Niger Delta when President Jonathan, against security advice, choose to go to the dreaded Camp 5.”

Against all odds, the President told him if you think the military should not be used, you go home and talk to your brothers.

Again, I was privileged to be one of the three persons that boarded a presidential aircraft without security with him from Abuja to Delta, took an helicopter to Escravos and from Escravos, went by boat, guided and guarded by the ex-agitators and their threatening guns and ammunition, we went to their camp and discussed, peace was extracted at that moment and we came back, by the time the vice president returned, so many people did not believe that he was going to return”, he asserted.

Kuku explained that it was Jonathan’s gallantry and peace that was extracted that emboldened President Yar’Adua to say, “Well it means it (amnesty) is possible, so let us proclaim it. It was actually a test proclamation that was made, it was Jonathan that actually counseled by physically visiting and ensuring that peace was extracted and we got about the Roadmap to Peace Committee, the Technical Committee on Niger-Delta and everything came on board and amnesty was proclaimed June 25”.

“Interestingly, our late President had an opportunity never to accept t or to accept he counsel of his vice president. But he accepted because he believed while he lived the fact that Niger-Delta had suffered so much and needed attention in terms of development. Today, he is no more, but two years of our marking amnesty, we gave him the glory”, he stated.

Thanks for the first paragraph! cool

On the second paragraph, I'm just hearing it for the first time. Can you back it up?
The bolded has got to be a joke. I do not expect any educated person from the ND not to be able to back the fact of Yar Adua's crude, slave master approach to the problems in the ND. Perhaps, you also do not know that when stack failure stared him in the face, rather than evaluate more rational methods, he ran off to the US and signed what he thought was a deal with George Bush for AFRICOM to come in, build a base in Port Harcourt and smash up your village.
Luckily for us, the US saw what was going on in the ND as the highest oppression. It is worthy of note that that view still holds today, Hilary Clinton boldly called for Nigeria to hold a "national discussion" during the Yar Adua saga and later claimed that the ND is like occupied territory by the rest of Nigeria.

Learn your own history.

It has nothing to do with ethnicity. Where did I say it had?
The fact is that there is development which you questioned.

By the way, the amnesty is 100% GEJ's idea, Yar Adua was more at home spending $3.3billion to arm the JTF to smash the Niger Delta. When that failed and the oil dried out, the clowns in power drafted GEJ to draw up the programme. Learn your own history.

And it did develop when OBJ was there? C'mon beaf, you and I know it has to do with the governors of the individual states. GEJ is a national leader and can't be seen as partisan to any region of the country. The main ND states that have always been on point and will remain on point is Rivers, CR, Akwa-Ibom, Delta and Edo. Bayelsa, where GEJ comes from, has not changed much.
The governors are doing their own thing, but the FG projects are moving at the right pace for the first time in our history. Also, we have had several thousand trained abroad in various disciplines to suit the oil sector primarily. Its good, dude.

You guys can only try to earn your pay but we already know the reality.

It was very clear that right from the first day GEJ stepped into the hallowed chambers, he had no single clue about what the money saved from subsidy removal will be used for, prompting David Mark to tell him like a small boy to go back and think well on the subject matter.
I still can't believe the guy is not saying anything about the refineries. With fully fuctional refineries, who needs subsidy payment?
No doubt, with almost 1TR bucks on security budget alone, he is stashing enough slush funds for himself against the evil day that will soon sweep him off.

Hope he knows that no amount of money can buy you security when you have a growing army of hungry and unemployed youths, whose future keeps getting darker by the day.

I find it very strange that you people do not realise after all the trumpetting from the rooftops that govt is deregulating the petroleum sector. Govt is not good at running business, so GEJ is releasing the petroleum sector to the private sector. The same way the phone service was deregulated, and the very same way PHCN is being deregulated.
Its a pity that those who are fighting for the subsidy can't even seem to be capable of making the barest minimum of logical arguments why it should stay, maybe we would have had a refreshing argument, instead its all they have is hysterics. Well, hysterics will not feed the nation, neither do they make anyone look or sound clever.

It is a pity that most of the comments here are merely trading sentiments. Against cold hard logic, sentiment will always lose, because it has no value.
I would expect rational minds to take pieces of the articles and profer constructive criticisms.

From IBB's time until now, Nigerians have been enslaved with the mirage of cheap fuel, while the riches for development are carted away into a couply of hundred pockets (yet we are 167million strong). Why would so many be so happy to be enslaved? Why would many fight to remain slaves and for the likes of IBB to continue pissing on their heads?
IBB built private refineries with FG loot in Ivory Coast and Benin Republic, Abacha did the same in Sierra Leone. All to treat Nigerians as fools and directly benefit from oil import subsidies. Today, GEJ is tearing down those empires and yet some are crying, no doubt though, those are either crocodile tears or tears of ignorance.

What is the problem with todays youth? Why are they so docile and ill-informed?

that is not entire the case in my view, real fear is what would happen to the so called saved money. The main problem of this country is not fuel subsidy by bloated government where 73% of money made goes for salaries of people who don't produce any income to the nation. I am not against subsidy removal, more so when it has been removed from main industrial fuels like diesel and aviation fuel, but is this the right time?
Can the economy of the people sustain it. There is no economy without some form of subsidy, even America subsidizes steel industry and some agricultural products.
The subsidy is not as much being removed as it is being diverted to more progressive areas of the economy. State and local govts will also get more money (as per the demands of Fashola's committee).
The bulk of the subsidy is being diverted to power generation, local research and production (e.g. cassava bread), agriculture and various transportation, road building and welfare scemes. As an example, the 2,600MW Mambilla power station is being fastracked with part payment from the subsidy savings.

I created a thread on the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE) which few are interested in, please read it at least. You will find it here:

Governors Urge FG to remove fuel subsidy

A major showdown is imminent over the N18,000 minimum wage.

Governors have asked the Federal Government to immediately remove subsidy on petroleum products and haul the proceeds into the Federation Account to be shared. This, in their view, will give the states more cash to pay the least paid worker N18,000.

But labour seems to be opposing the removal of subsidy as a pre-condition for the implementation of the law on the payment of the minimum wage.

The governors took the decision to press for the removal of subsidy on petrol products, which the government says costs billions monthly at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) meeting on Tuesday night in Abuja.

Besides removal of subsidy, the governors insist on the need to review the revenue allocation formula, which is lopsided in favour of the Federal Government.

It takes 52 per cent. The 36 states share 26.72 per cent and the 774 local governments take 20.60 per cent.

The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola Committee raised by the governors has recommended a review of the revenue allocation as follows: Federal Government (35 per cent), States (42 per cent) and local governments (23 per cent). The report has been approved by the Forum.

The implementation of that report topped the agenda of the governors’ delegation’s meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday at the Aso Villa in Abuja.

The governors’ delegation was led by Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who is also the chairman of the Forum. Other members of the seven-man team are Governors Fashola (Lagos), Tanko Makura (Nasarawa), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo) and Patrick Yakowa (Kaduna).
