maclatunji: My dear you are being sentimental, do you know how many attacks are planned against the United States? They do not happen because the government does its duty. Rhetoric like yours encourages our government to be lazy and abdicate their responsibility. Read what Human Right Watch says:

The country’s governing elite continues to squander and siphon off the nation’s tremendous oil wealth, neglecting basic health and education services for the vast majority of ordinary citizens. Widespread graft has fueled political violence, police abuses , and other human rights violations.

Deal with the issues highlighted therein and there will be no misguided goons to do something as evil as this and even if there are. An alert security network will deal with them.

Stop creating excuses for poor governance that breads corruption and insecurity. If you insist on name-calling, then we are not learning from history. History repeats itself if you do not learn from it!
You must be a fool.
The US is the most attacked country on Earth. The thing you don't see is Americans abusing their President like fools when it happens. What id!ot would make fun of US deaths in Afghanistan or Iraq and hope to have a peaceful life? Yet, you worms here in Nigeria feel that the man is not from your ethnic group or religion, so you don't give a toss.

How can any normal person rejoice at the sight of spilt blood, just because they lost elections? You people are sick.

Well, i'm in the 3D animation and gaming industry, and our high-end desktops and workstations are pretty much still alive. You wouldn't want to blow off all the ram on your tablet, attempting to render any frame. The PC era is still very much around. Also i don't think developers would enjoy coding/debugging on their smartphones or tablets!
Desktops and workstations will always be there as specialist machines for devs, but the consumer market is rapidly moving to dumber, smaller and more user friendly machines.
PC's will survive only as special machines, in a few years time they'll be as rare and expensive as floppy disks.

Dude, its the sad reality. From Windows 8 onwards, MS is dumbing us down to JQuery and html5; other languages have become second class citizens. All over the web, Windows devs are up in arms about it.

Talk to the average person and pure foolishness mixed with prayers erupt from their mouths. Everybody reacts by instinct as if God didn't give us brains, shouting before thinking.

The reason we have the bombing of the UN today is because of the id!iotic mixing of religion with politics. Who, but fools do that? Its a huge price we are paying for the introduction of sharia into government.

Expect the US army sooner, rather than later; cos IMHO al-qaeda has found Northern Nigeria conducive to their campaign. This is how to lose sovereignty.

Boko Haram: General’s trial begins over suspects’ escape
By Our Reporter 23/08/2011 00:23:00
Font size:

The trial of an Army General over last year’s escape of two Boko Haram suspects from detention in Bauchi began yesterday in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The Special Court Martial was inaugurated by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Armoured Division, Jos, Maj.-Gen Sunday Idoko.

On trial is the former Commander of the 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi, Brig.-Gen. Muraina Raji.

The proceedings began with a fresh charge that Raji allegedly took N387,000 belonging to the Army.

President of the court Maj.-Genl John Zaruwa read the charge. The proceedings were dominated by argument on the constitution of the panel by Judge Advocate, Lt.-Col. Bernard Okorie.

Lagos lawyer Femi Falana, leading three other lawyers for the accused, objected to the new charge, wondering why the Judge Advocate should not participate in the trial.

Although the court overruled the objection to the panel’s constitution, it upheld Raji’s objection to the membership of Brig.-Gen. Agboola Robinson.

He was replaced with Brig.-Gen. B.T. Ogini.

Overruling Falana’s argument on Okorie’s membership, the court held that for not participating in the investigation that led to Raji’s trial, his membership would not influence the court.

Falana told the court that he was aware that the accused had objected to the participation of two members of the panel last week.

He said the president of the court had granted one of his objections.

The lawyer argued with the judge advocate, citing sections of the Rules of Procedure of the Army.

Falana said: “Having regard to the role of the Judge Advocate, under Section 80 and 81 of the Rules of Procedures of the Army, it is the duty of the Judge Advocate, particularly as outlined in Section 80, …to advise the court about its constitution and any defect of the charge.

“Now, the only fear of the accused is that the Judge Advocate, as a member of this division, the Judge Advocate of this Division, took part in the investigation, giving legal advice. He will not be in a position, sir, to advise.

“Particularly under Sector 340 (4) of the Rules, the Judge Advocate is to advise the court on any defect in the constitution of the court or any defect in the charge sheet. If we are challenging the charge sheet - and we intend to do that - will the Judge Advocate be in a position to advise that it will contradict the charge that he had helped to put in place, sir? That is why we are urging your Lordship to look at this matter.”

He cited Section 134 (2) of the Armed Forces Act (AFA), which states that “anybody who helped in investigating the accused, the trial of the accused, the Commanding Officer and any officer who investigated the accused or has acted as one of the persons holding an enquiry relating to the subject-matter of the charge, shall not sit as a member of the court martial or act as the Judge Advocate at the court martial.”

Jacob Zuma loyal because of Gaddafi's support for the anti-apartheid struggle.

South Africa and the African Union have remained loyal to longtime friend and ally, the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Here South African President Jacob Zuma shakes hands with Gaddafi on his arrival in Tripoli, Libya on April 10, 2011. (Ntswe Mokoena/AFP/Getty Images)The South African government is stubbornly continuing to support Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, wherever he is.

South African President Jacob Zuma's government blocked a United States proposal at the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday to release $1.5 billion in Libyan assets — frozen by the United Nations to starve Gaddafi of resources. The unfrozen funds would go to Libya's rebels.

South Africa agreed to approve $500 million of the package for urgent humanitarian assistance, but it opposes the release of the remaining $1 billion because the National Transitional Council has not yet been recognized by the U.N. itself. It also opposed recognizing the rebels' National Transitional Council.

The U.N. security council has scheduled a vote on the U.S. proposal on Thursday in New York. Both the U.S. and Britain have criticized South Africa's stance.

However it is not just South Africa. Many other African governments do not want to move against Gaddafi, because of his support for them in the past.

But a few African leaders, specifically Senegal's Abdoulaye Wade, Nigeria's Goodluck Jonathan and Botswana's Ian Khama, have voiced their support for the rebels.

South African President Jacob Zuma has defended his support for Gaddafi. Zuma said this week that the NATO-backed revolt has undermined the "African Union's efforts and initiatives to handle the situation in Libya."

But Zuma's efforts as an African Union envoy to negotiate a solution to the Libyan crisis fell flat when the rebels rejected his proposal.

South Africa voted for the U.N. Security Council resolution 1973 to protect civilians in Libya, but that move was criticized in South Africa. Government ministers said they regretted the move when they saw NATO's military intervention go beyond a no-fly zone.

Zuma said this week that the Libyan crisis is the latest example of Africa being shown a lack of respect by the rest of the world.

An AU peace and security council meeting in Addis Ababa on Thursday and Friday will deliberate on the "unfolding situation" in Libya, said Zuma. "The AU position has been the most logical one. It still has room in the situation right now."

Zuma may think the African Union will come up with an effective solution, but few others do. The AU has a record of sticking by longtime dictators.

Zuma and other members of South Africa's ruling African National Congress feel loyalty to Gaddafi for his support for the anti-apartheid struggle. Former South African president Nelson Mandela once said: "Those who feel irritated by our friendship with President Gaddafi can go jump in the pool."

But Zuma is criticized for allowing old loyalties to shackle South Africa from forming new, flexible policies for North Africa, where the situation has been fundamentally changed by the protests of the "Arab Spring."

"The South African government has obviously been on the side of Gaddafi from an ideological and historical perspective. It was inevitably going to create a foreign policy nightmare for South Africa," said Stevens Mokgalapa, international relations spokesman for the opposition Democratic Alliance.

"The government never foresaw a future without Gaddafi," said Mokgalapa, according to the Guardian. "They misjudged and mishandled it. It's now about crisis foreign policy management. We are disappointed and appalled by the South African government's stance."

Zuma's adamant stance is also a rebellion against the West.

"South Africa has established a position, which I think is foolish, of trying to show it's not the servant of the West and that Africa should carve out its own independent way in international affairs," said Allister Sparks, a veteran South African political analyst and journalist, to the Guardian.

"It's brought us almost to an ideology that resists anything it perceives to be outside interference," said Sparks. "I don't think Zuma has got many of his own ideas about it. It began with President Thabo Mbeki and it continues."

Sparks added: "It strikes me as absolutely absurd that while people are dancing in the streets celebrating freedom, South Africa is resisting that. South Africa owes a lot of its freedom to foreign intervention, including the West. We end up on the wrong side, the side of tyrants."

Gaddafi Condoleeza Album

Among the many bizarre items uncovered as Libyan rebels ransacked Muammar Gaddafi's Tripoli compound: an album filled with photos of former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

The discovery was perhaps not surprising given Gaddafi's much-professed admiration of the former U.S. Secretary of State, MSNBC is noting. "I support my darling black African woman," Gaddafi told al-Jazeera television in 2007, according to The Guardian. "I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders, Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. I love her very much. I admire her and I'm proud of her because she's a black woman of African origin."

In 2008, Rice historically became the first U.S. Secretary of State to visit Tripoli since 1953. She and Gaddafi are reported to have enjoyed a private dinner, during which a State Department report indicates the Libyan leader also showered his visitor with an estimated $212,000 worth of gifts -- including a diamond ring in a wooden box, a lute and an accompanying DVD, and a locket with Qaddafi's own picture inside.

Also included among the gifts: "Wonder-Womanesque wristbands" and an autographed copy of his revolutionary Green Book with an inscription that expressed his "respect and admiration," according to The New York Times.

There are, of course, strict rules about the acceptance of gifts by public officials but when it comes to foreign leaders, diplomatic concerns take priority, as "non-acceptance would cause embarrassment to donor and U.S. Government."

Though Rice praised the meeting with the Libyan leader as "a historic moment," her gift to Gaddafi was considerably less opulent: a plate with the U.S. seal, The Atlantic notes.

ARRGGHHH!!!!! @Beaf wassup na! Am I gonna end up locking this thread? Just answer his question so its all gonna end!
Bruv, no vex. I fear your big axe. grin

I sincerely believe I answered his question, maybe my reply was a bit over illustrated with the battery and radio, but the photo was apt as far as driving the point of evolution of technology is concerned.

Computers started out as mainframes in cabinets that could feel several rooms and used punch cards, things moved in a huge leap to graphical user interfaces from DOS / ASCII style monochrome displays; in the current time, we are witnessing another massive technological leap in both processing capability, form and function, from the mouse and keyboard to more natural input devices (these tend to be in the class of touch sensitive or motion sensing input devices).

Computers are now taking all sorts of incredible new forms and in order to catch up with the above, some of the main players have begun designing their systems around browsers and the web. The Chrome OS kicked off the trend and now the omnipresent behemoth, Microsoft has joined suit. In fact not only has Microsoft joined suit, they have also relegated traditional programming techniques to the background as 3rd class citizens in Windows 8 (designed around IE10). The strange new kids on the block are "immersive apps" created with html5 and JavaScript, which in a mind boggling twist, will not only be able to leverage native capabilities, but will be GPU accelerated.

Suddenly, while C#, WPF, Silverlight all but face deprecation, every Linux PHP web developer will be able to produce engaging Windows apps with touch-screen and other native capabilities using html5 and JavaScript only. Its a paradigm shift of tectonic proportions.

I expect that the new programming bundles in the upcoming Visual Studio to be largely based around JQuery. Its gonna be a very strange place for Windows devs in less than a years time.

Programming › Steve Jobs Resigns As Apple Boss by Beaf(op): 4:14am On Aug 25, 2011
Steve Jobs resigns as Apple boss

News that Apple boss Steve Jobs is stepping down permanently as chief executive of the technology giant prompted an outpouring of tributes, analysis, sadness and gallows humour on the web.

Here are just a selection of some of the reactions.

On the popular tech site Techcrunch, Saul Hamsell described Mr Jobs as the "the patron saint of perfectionists". The most amazing thing about Apple's revival under Mr Jobs' leadership, he wrote, was that it happened at all.

Most of the digital innovations that have transformed our lives have been logical outgrowth of increasing power and decreasing cost of semiconductors. Someone was going to invent personal computers, cell phones, the Internet, even search engines.
But there was "nothing the slightest bit inevitable" about Apple's success, he adds.

It's hard to think of anyone besides Steve Jobs who through the sheer force of will, self-confidence, vision and perfectionism could upend the powerful forces of technology to make so many products that delighted so many people precisely because they were improbable.
Writing at CNet, Jay Greene said Apple's fortunes, and those of Mr Jobs, were inextricably linked to Microsoft and Bill Gates. The firms and their bosses were rivals in innovations throughout the 1980s, the writer notes, and Steve Jobs was publicly critical of Microsoft during its 1990s heyday.

At the time, and for many years after, those words often seemed like sour grapes from an executive whose company had been surpassed in so many ways by Microsoft. But in the end, Jobs proved his vision right. His design chops and vision helped launch the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad, industry changing products that turned Apple into a more profitable and more valuable company than Microsoft.
News website The Daily Beast collated tweets from Apple employees as they reacted to the news.

Among those was Chris Espinosa, Apple employee number eight:

On May 31, 1985 I walked by Steve and his team sitting under the tree outside Bandley 3. Today I saw him leave Apple again.
Mike Lee, senior engineer at Apple, was brief and emotional:

I knew this day would come. I didn't expect to cry.
Another emotional writer was Om Malik, founder of the GigaOm network, who said he had a "lump in my throat and a tear in my eye" as he wrote his post. He, like many others, was quick to note that Mr Jobs' announcement raised concerns over his health.

The first thought that ran through my head was about Steve's health, and I thought to myself that this cannot be good. I don't care about him being the CEO or head of Apple. What I really do care about is his health. He wouldn't be making this decision unless things were pretty dire.
"Today, we are living in a world that is about taking short-term decisions," Mr Malik continued.

And then there is Steve and Apple - a leader and a company not afraid to take the long view, patiently building its way to the future it envisions for itself. Not afraid to invent the future and to be wrong. And almost always willing to do one small thing - cannibalize itself. Under Steve, Apple was happy to see the iPhone kill the iPod and iPad kill the MacBook. He understands that you don't walk into the future by looking back - if you do, you trip over yourself and break your nose.
Outside of the tech elite, ordinary Apple users took to Twitter to mark their appreciation for a man they never met but who influenced all their lives.

"Thanks #stevejobs for years of innovative design. Something few companies embrace. You are greatly admired. (Typed on my Macbook)" was one typical tweet, by Matt Grube, while Caitlyn Pardue, of New York, was even more succinct: "#stevejobs You are inspirational! #genius".

You take this arguing thing too seriously, resorting to insultshuh  Read your post and see how foolish you've just been.
Like I told you, your question is stup!d, cool
If you knew what Windows 8 was, you would know that there are two graphical interfaces. The zany touch-screen one will be all html5 and JavaScript, both of which will be GPU accelerated (that's if you know what that means). While the "classic" GUI one will be old tech, dull and incapable of anything to do with the touch-screen. Only a fool wouldn't realise that the old tech bit is on its way out with such disincentives; some companies are already cancelling WPF and C# projects because of Windows 8.

You came in here foolishly mocking people while basking in ignorance, now you've been hit with the force of reality you feel its insulting? shocked
