Bala Hassan says:
September 10, 2010 at 12:45 amGusau’s permutations

Gusau’s body language was clear ab initio. Earlier on when Gusau attempted to singlehandedly convert his NSA job to one of a defacto Vice President; chiding CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and his yeoman’s job as helmsman at the apex bank, this writer was one of the few that saw through the ruse and called on Jonathan to call Gusau to order. Sanusi Lamido is one of the best things to happen to Nigeria and belongs squarely in the genre of the likes of Wole Soyinka, Nuhu Ribadu, Bala Mohammed, Beeko Ransome Kuti, Abubakar Umar and Issac Adaka Boro (to name a few).

Majority of the other characters on the national political scene are opportunistic charlatans who have no business in national governance in the first place!

Gusau’s calculations are few and not far-fetched to decipher.

First, he figures that the Northern faction of the PDP, having zoned itself to a corner, needs a viable option to Buhari, Atiku and Babangida. Why not offer himself as that viable fourth wheel!

Second, if things are not looking good enough for Option One, he can turn around and claim to have thrown his hat into the ring to play the spoiler by further depleting the concentration of votes in any of the existing Northern Three and enhancing the chances of his overnight boss; Goodluck Jonathan. That might only have any appeal if such an understanding was already consummated before Gusau eventually hit the airwaves with his ‘count-me-in-too’ plan.

Thirdly, he is resuming his pursuit of the presidential ambition project where he left off in 2006.

As a deft politician, he might also swing to a floundering Babangida agenda on the platform of being an old and loyal friend of the ‘evil genius.’

Whichever of the permutations he is counting on, Gusau had better realize that any plan anti-Jonathan is doomed to fail because, for one thing, Gusau’s timing is thoroughly inauspicious. Nigeria is at a point where the North is not credible as nationalistic in any sense; Nigeria does not belong to Northerners, Westerners, Easterners, MidWesterners or any of the Otherners in-between; it belongs to Nigerians. Of those Nigerians, the youth wing has recognized that it has no future worth looking forward to if it does not rise up now and defend its interest. The best opportunity for that defence is under Jega’s INEC. Once this opening battle is won, the decayed, political brigandage of the past is history for good. So says Bala Hassan.

NSA, Aliyu Gusau dumps Jonathan, Joins presidential race
Headlines Sep 10, 2010 Share | *As Jonathan’s camp woos more govs

By Dayo Benson

LAGOS—TUESDAY’S release of time table for the 2011 general elections by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has widened the political space as National Security Adviser, NSA, Lt-Gen Aliyu Gusau, is set to formally declare his presidential ambition soon.

This development came just as President Goodluck Jonathan Camp is perfecting strategies to win more governors to its fold ahead of his declaration to contest January 22 presidential poll.
Impeccable sources close to Gen. Gusau, said, yesterday, that the NSA had made up his mind to throw his hart into the ring for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential ticket despite the fact that President Jonathan would also run.

A meeting of Jonathan National Campaign Committee, NCC, which was scheduled to hold, Wednesday, in Abuja, but postponed to yesterday’s night, was meant to restrategise on how to work on four governors who were still not on the President’s side.

One of the reliable sources close to Gen. Gusau, said he (NSA) was expected to resign his appointment any moment from now. He said: “I can tell you authoritatively that Gen. Gusau would contest the 2011 presidential election and what that means is that he would resign his appointment any moment from now. In fact, he will declare his intention by middle of this month.”

Gusau contested for the PDP’s ticket in December 2006, but he was beaten to the second position by the late Umaru Yar’Adua, who was largely backed by the party big guns, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Yar’ Adua went on to win the hotly discredited election in April 2007. On his part, Gusau went into retirement hoping to make another bid for the Presidency. He was busy knocking together his political team when he was called upon by President Jonathan, then acting President, to serve as the National Security Adviser, at a time the nation’s ship of state faced some turbulence and instability as President Yar’Adua’s illness turned the latter into a lame duck. The job, the fifth time he would be so appointed, temporarily demobilized his political footwork, but not his interest, according to his aides.
Gusau’s aides told Vanguard that one factor that will favour him in the pursuit of the Presidency is his network of powerful friends, outside Nigeria and all over the country, with a lot of them within the ruling PDP.

Last night’s meeting of the National Campaign Committee of President Jonathan was sequel to a meeting Tuesday between President Jonathan and state governors in which Jonathan was said to have informed them of his intention to contest next year’s election and he enlisted their support.

It was also learnt that some Northern governors had earlier held a meeting with Vice-President Namadi Sambo in Saudi Arabia last week on what a source described as fence mending. The meeting which took place while the Vice-President hurriedly went to perform lesser Haji was said to be inconclusive. Though the details were not known, it was learnt that the Northern Governors were said to have given terms and conditions for supporting President Jonathan.

It was further learnt that following Tuesday’s meeting the President had with governors, most of them had agreed to support him to actualise his ambition.

However, it was gathered that four Governors namely those of Sokoto, Niger, Kwara and Rivers states were still opposed to Jonathan presidency in 2011 even as efforts were being intensified to win them over.

I enjoyed reading the long and chunky stuff but it sounds like an opinion of the writer rather than fact. You just have to look at Buhari’s life style compare to the likes of IBB or OBJ.
He still lives in a modest home, while others live in mansions.
He fly economic class like you and I, while others hop around the world in their private jets.
Buhari is hardly seen abroad, while others are of the opposite.

If he had such amount of money in Midland bank in London, you think he will dare the audacious try to kidnap Dikko in London with the British knowing that secret of his?

Why should he arrest Shagari? Shagari is political novice but I do not think he is economically/materially dishonest.

As Kobojunkie had alluded, his partner in crime, Idiagbon died poverty-stricken. If Buhari has those kind of money starched away and was still doing all those corruption fight with Idiagbon, then he must be the biggest actor on the planet.
Idiagbon had nothing to hide, because he was a good man, the 100% percent genuine article. Buhari'e case is very different, how can the disappearance of $2.8billion under his watch as NNPC boss be explained?

Also, unlike Idiagbon, Buhari has always been in one political position or the other in different govts and you know what "political" generals are like.

Sack of service chiefs well-timed — Kayode, Defence Minister
News Sep 10, 2010 Share | By Anayo Okoli, Vincent Ujumadu & Chidi Nkwopara

UMUAHIA—COMMENDATIONS and condemnations, yesterday, trailed Wednesday’s sack of service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police by President Goodluck Jonathan.

As many Nigerians hailed the President’s decision to replace his service chiefs barely three months to the general elections in January, others believed the manner the sack was carried out was reminiscent of the military era.
Minister of Defence, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, who was in New York when the announcement was made said: “The timing is perfect. We have elections coming up next year and we have other issues coming up and the country is fairly stable and safe.”

The minister, in company of the ousted Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau, was on a week_long duty tour to the UN when the announcement was made in Abuja.

Following news of his removal, Dambazzau left the minister’s entourage which also included some senior military officers.
Their working visit, which began on Tuesday, was scheduled to last till tomorrow.

Prince Kayode said that the service chiefs were already aware that their respective tenures had expired in August, and it was subject to renewal based on the wishes of President Jonathan. He said: “They know that this is a normal, regular, statutory and constitutional exercise of power by Mr President.”

The Defence Minister, however, maintained that the service chiefs were not removed, stressing: “Under the rules and terms of condition of service, they are entitled to two years and their tenure has expired. Mr President, exercising his prerogatives under the Armed Forces Act and under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has every right to make new appointments.”

In his reaction, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State commended the President for appointing an Igbo man as the Chief of Army Staff, the first since the end of the Nigerian Civil war,

Governor Obi said: “At times when we consider the contributions of our fathers to Nigeria and what we are getting in return, one feels pained. Having said this, let me quickly add that the appointment of the first Igbo Chief of Army Staff, coming a few weeks after the appointment of another Igbo as the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration is a welcome development.

“It is a testimony that at last we are being seen as true partners in Nigeria. We urge the Presidency to continue in that direction until our neglect and marginalization over the years is completely redressed.”

Imo State ANPP chairman lauds Jonathan

Imo State Chairman of All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP, Dr. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, said he was happy that President Jonathan had broken the jinx.

Ajumbe said: “I am happy that President Jonathan has broken the jinx after several years of Nigeria’s existence. It has given Ndigbo a sense of belonging.”, Ajumbe said.

He, however, cautioned the new COAS to put in everything in him to effectively discharge the function, especially to prove the point that Igbos were equally capable of functioning in such a capacity.

He added: “We do not expect anything less than proper discharge of the function. He has to write his name in the sands of time. He must prove to the world that Igbos are capable of handling such positions.”
Bishop of Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Dr. Chuka Ekemam, said it was a sign that justice and fairness had started to return to the nation.

He said: “That is wonderful. It is great. It is good news. We are one Nigeria. The development has given Ndigbo a sense of belonging. This has proved that fairness and justice has come to stay.”

Ekemam described President Jonathan as “calm, cool and calculated”, adding that his presence in the Presidency will change a lot of things for the better for the citizenry.

Abia State Governor Theodore Orji in a statement by signed by Mr. Ugochukwu Emezue, commended Jonathan for the gesture more so when the new army chief is from his state, Abia.

Orji said that President Jonathan had broken the jinx of not having an Igbo man as the nation’s army chief since the civil war ended over 40 years ago.

While describing the new army chief as a fine gentlemen who will take the army to greater heights, Orji charged him to be above board and make Nidigbo and Abia State in particular proud.

A renowned Professor of Medicine and currently the Pro-chancellor of Abia State University, Prof. J.C. Ogbonnaya described the appointment as a welcome development.

He said: “It is a good thing to occur while we are alive after the war. I thank the President for remembering that Ndigbo still exist. That particular position was last occupied by an Igbo man who happened to be an uncle of mine (Ironsi). It is a good development and I thank the President for that.”

An astute politician, Chief Ralph Egbu, also commended the President describing the appointment as a good development and good politics.

Egbu asaid the appointment was “a right step towards putting the Ndigbo where they belong,” adding that “it shows that the President feels the impulse of the people.”

He, however, hope that the appointment will span fours years, saying that if it ended with President Jonathan’s first term, it would mean nothing to Ndigbo.

Kalu wishes Ihejirika long tenure
Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, celebrated the appointment of the first Igbo Army chief in 44 years.
He said: “I salute Gen.Ihejirika, I am happy for Ndigbo. I am emotional about this. I just pray this one lasts.”

While applauding Ihejirika’s elevation, the former governor urged the government to keep him on the job long enough for effect, adding: “Apart from Air Marshall Paul Dike, no other Igbo Service Chief spent up to two years in office.Even in the para- military, only Onovo failed to stay beyond two years since 1950 when Briton Sir Ivor Stourton assumed the position. In the Customs Service, the only Igbo Comptroller General in 119 years, Dr. Bernard Shaw Nwadialo barely lasted a year.”

Inter-society condemns removal

It was, however, not commendations all the way for President Jonathan as the International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, INTERSOCIETY, condemned the manner of the removal of the service chiefs on the grounds that it had the trappings of a dictatorship.

In a statement in Awka, the Chairman of INTERSOCIETY, Mr. Emeka Umeagbalasi said: “It is a replica of the events of the military’s inglorious epoch when sensitive and major issues were handled or treated summarily.

“President Goodluck Jonathan should be reminded that the services and conduct of these service chiefs are governed by Nigeria’s Public Service Act and the Constitution of Nigeria 1999 and not under the oral rules and regulations guiding his nuclear family.

“The President may be wrong by saying that the tenures of the service chiefs expired since August 2010. For instance, it is a common knowledge among Nigerians that Mr. Onovo’s tenure statutorily ends in 2013, which is when he would clock 60 years and mandatory 35 years in the Public Service. Both are exit periods for any Nigerian top public servant. The case of Michael Okiro and Gabriel Ehindero is a clear precedent.

“Transparency as the bulwark of democracy, demands that such important decisions should be made public before they are carried out so as to elicit healthy debates and scrutiny among 150 million Nigerians.”

ALL NIGERIAN COUP GENERALS WERE ROGUES AND GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI WAS NO EXCEPTION
NAIWU OSAHON 02/05/2010 09:31:00

Buhari is a tribal and religious bigot. When he lost the presidential election in April 2003, he threatened the nation with mass action and refused to go to court. He organized a rally in Abuja, as one in a series of such civil acts of disobedience to protest what he described as the massive rigging of the election that brought Obasanjo to power the second time.
He almost succeeded in launching his Jihad. The alleged taped sermon of an unnamed pastor at an unidentified church in Adamawa claiming that: “Whether Muslims like it or not, Obasanjo must continue” and that “any Muslim who does not want that, can die or move to Niger” was obviously a blatant forgery. It was very likely to be the handiwork of the ‘Crater of Dikko brigade. For a start, the language of the sermon was too brash to be true, especially coming as it was claimed, from a Christian minority likely to bear the brunt of the consequences of the offensive sermon in a predominantly Muslim state. The Christian minority would have had to be mad to the last man, to call for their own annihilation in such a careless and irresponsible manner.

It is not logical that the Christian cleric would send hundreds of his suicide sermon tapes, not to Christians, but to Muslim clerics and the media around the country. Someone who desperately wanted to kill Nigeria must think we are all morons and I suggest we look for him at the backyard of our current number one Jihadist. Where else to look when Buhari was threatening he must occupy the Presidency whether he won the election or not. We begged him to go to the Electoral Tribunal to settle the matter but he insisted that he would rather clubber us to death, with religion than subject himself to the in indignity of being judged by another man. That is how badly he cares about our welfare and survival.

One is not always sure if he is truly a Nigerian because let’s face it; no true Nigerian would hate Nigeria so much as to threaten her with a Jihad. May be the problem is of a mental nature considering the gutter snipes often credited to the supposed statesman on the Hausa service of the BBC and other foreign media about his fatherland. He seems to love to speak before he thinks. There is something definitely troubling about the mind of this crater genius because it is probably not just Nigerians that he hates but life itself in its totality. In other words, we are probably all trapped in the vicious grip of a cool and calculating sadist. In fact, I am told that no one has ever seen him smile or laugh.

Sam Omatseye, writing about Buhari in the Sun newspaper at the time said: “He (Buhari) uses Sharia to justify his worldview; to justify a certain selfish view of the world that serves his interest at a particular time. He played that card in the presidential election in order to secure a base for himself. But he needed more than his northern base to become president. You must be flexible to pull non-sharia base with you and the man has no flexibility in his bones so when he tries to play the chameleon, he fails. He tries to carry a veneer of a man of principles but falls short when selfish interest is involved.”

Buhari has no respect for democracy. Under his behest, the ANPP humiliated five highly respected South-Eastern Presidential aspirants at their primary for the 2003 presidential election despite having Dr. Okadigbo as Buhari’s running mate. After rigging his party’s primary to become its presidential candidate, Buhari then felt he stood on moral grounds to preach election morals to the world. Buhari ignored the South-West completely, as if it did not exist and offered the South-South, the unattractive, legally diminished constitutional option on derivation. To rob salt into injury, he threatened to swap NDDC with PTF. If he wasn’t playing with words, he betrayed his selfish ethnic agenda because we all know what happened in his PTF. It concentrated its activities in the North.

Buhari definitely was not a sellable presidential candidate across Nigeria. What happened was that the incumbent ANPP governors needed a Buhari to help them hold on to their states on religious grounds. Even in the area of public debate, Buhari was not articulate or detribalized and he lacked charisma. He ignored all entreaties to explain his programmes to the ‘bloody civilians.’ Arrogant and condescending, he was unable to climb down from his high horse as a former military dictator. Infused with the moribund myth that Nigerian leadership was the sole property of his ethnic group, he assumed he could cow the rest of us with a jihad. If that failed, some said, military coup was a possibility because a kaferi must not continue to rule. He concentrated his campaign (if it could be called that, because he said very little at every stop), in the North-East and North-West of the country. The little he said, was only in the Hausa language to titillate the warrior nerves of his jihadist gang.

With 19 states in the North, he was convinced he could, at least, force a re-run in the elections, forgetting that the North Central states are already a little weary of jihad. Even the core North itself has some 30% Christian population. Awolowo and Zik exposed the fallacy of the monolithic north by winning elections all over the place during their time. Abiola proved that religion is not the cocoon the Buharis think it is in modern Nigerian politics.

He prostitutes his political ambition by moving from party to party, with the sole aim of becoming the presidential candidate of any party he joins. He is not prepared to serve under anyone else, definitely not under a southern candidate. On seeing that he would not be able to realize his selfish ambition in the mega party he initially joined with others to form, he hurriedly formed a break away party where no one would challenge him as presidential candidate. Since there is no hope of his legitimately ever becoming the Nigerian president or head of state again, Nigerians need to be preparing now for a possible jihad led by this man in the not too distant future.

ALL NIGERIAN COUP GENERALS WERE ROGUES AND GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI WAS NO EXCEPTION
NAIWU OSAHON 02/05/2010 09:31:00

This article, rearranged for special emphasis, was first published by me in my now rested Sun newspaper Nigeria weekly column of May 26, 2003 under the headline: ‘Has anyone ever seen Buhari laugh?’
All our military heads of state were largely insensitive, corrupt, almost illiterate, self-appointed tyrants who seized their stripes of honour (dishonour is probably more appropriate) through coups rather than the rigours of formal training, experience or war.  Each one of the military heads of state simply got up from bed one chosen morning, pistle on the hip, jackboots on the ready to besmear our constitution to loot our treasury to their hearts content.  Of course, they soon made up on the job for their lack of proper war or soldiering experience by detaining, tear gassing, shooting and bombing citizens protesting against their high-handedness and misrule.  Everyone of our coup Generals aspired to be the richest lazy fool in the world sitting like an over-fed baboon atop the tallest tree in our devastated and rotting vineyard, savouring their exploits amidst squalor, hunger and decaying corpses. General Muhammadu Buhari was one of such military heads of state.

Shagari’s regime (1979-1983), incurred Buhari’s wrath when it decided to investigate the US$2.8 billion that disappeared from the Midland Bank, London account of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, (NNPC), during General Obasanjo’s era as military head of state that preceded Shagari’s.  Dr. Olusola Saraki, Turaki of Ilorin, was the majority party leader of the Senate at the time and he headed the Senate Committee set up to trace the stolen money after some three years of clamour for such an investigation by members of the civil society.  The money was traced to the Midland Bank London branch fixed account of Obasanjo’s appointee as military head of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company.  The Committee’s report was presented to the Senate during the tail end of Shagari’s regime in 1983, so the House decided to deal with the matter and expose the rogue military head of the NNPC soon after the 1983 general elections.
The attempt at civilian-to-civilian transition provided the fillip for mayhem at the time.  The elections were marred by massive rigging because incumbent political office holders were refusing to slacken their stranglehold on Nigeria Plc., mortgaged as the leaders private property.
On the 31st December, 1983, Buhari struck under the cover of the political commotion that trailed the presidential election results. Buhari generally had no agenda for leadership but vendetta against those he called critics and rabble-rousers. Buhari did not see any moral wrong in his conversion of our oil money into his personal use.  Rather he railed at the press and what he described as the self-righteous sections of the country for making a big deal out of the issue. He locked up without trial, politicians and critics including Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, notorious for clamouring for the exposure of the oil money rogue.  Satire saved my neck at the time.  Vera Ifudu, who was an NTA reporter then, was sacked through his prodding as military ruler, for reporting what Dr. Olusola Saraki had told her in an interview about how the missing money was traced to Buhari’s account at a Midland Bank London branch.  Vera eventually won her case of wrongful dismissal in court against the NTA and was financially compensated.

Buhari’s ‘War Against Indiscipline’ was obviously a swathe to camouflage his moral decadence.  He did not see anything wrong with the over 50 suitcases an Emir smuggled through the Murtala International Airport without routine checks. And as a master of selective justice, he refused to convict Shagari, claiming not to find direct evidence against him but making a mountain out of a molehill on the indulgencies of Shagari’s lieutenants.  His regime’s masterstroke to divert attention from his moral ineptitude was exemplified by his crating of Umaru Dikko to airfreight back to Nigeria from London.

Despite his moral degeneracy and his high handedness and intolerance of dissent, his regime was not a total disaster. He maintained a vibrant foreign policy with Africa as its principal focus.  Nigeria was already a failed state economically when he seized government from Shagari.  We had a staggering foreign debt load of US$18 billion, so Buhari stopped all further borrowing, and in defiance of the IMF and World Bank, provided a homegrown alternative to the IMF’s SAP and pegged the exchange rate of the naira at one to the US$1.50. He stopped all further borrowing from abroad; instituted counter trade for essential or desperately needed commodities and put a ceiling (or an upper limit) on the amount of foreign exchange earnings to be used in servicing foreign debts.  After sorting out and rejecting all the dubious and unverifiable foreign debts in our portfolio, he paid off nearly 50% of the genuine debts by the end of his regime in 1985.  Even Britain was already scheming to enter into counter trade agreement with Nigeria when Babangida was sponsored in 1986 by the West to sack Buhari in a military coup that reversed our limited economic gains.

Not much is known about Buhari’s family background.  Not a great deal has been heard about his educational qualifications either.  As head of state, he was a recluse to the core.  At least, that was the image he portrayed.  His deputy, the late Gen. Idiagbon, was considered by most Nigerians to be the star of Buhari’s regime.  It is to Idiagbon that any credit due to that regime is generally attributed.  Idiagbon was the defacto head of state.  He was honest, upright, disciplined, and like Murtala Muhammed before him, he succeeded briefly in introducing order and sanity to our lives.

After consigning the vexatious matters that brought him to power, to administrative oblivion with the help of Shinkafi, his Secret Service guru, Buhari announced his readiness to quit office. Idiagbon, as Buhari’s lieutenant, naturally insisted on taking over as head of state from his apparently prematurely retiring boss.  Babangida, who was Chief of Army Staff at the time and a member of the Supreme Military Council, insisted it was his turn to rule because he had been involved in virtually every military coup up to that time.  The quarrel split the Supreme Military Council members almost equally behind the two principal combatants and eventually led to the overthrow of Buhari’s regime by Babangida.  America, Britain and the other leading western nations hailed Babangida’s coup and immediately sent emissaries to strategize with him.  President Reagan went out of his way to send him gifts including books such as Niccolo Machiavelli’s: the Prince, advocating the destruction of civil freedom to strengthen despotism.
The June 12 annulment provided Buhari with the opportunity to publicly wear a messianic toga while quietly pursuing private vendetta against someone he considered his enemy.  He attended meetings at Ota to join with others to condemn Babangida’s decision and as soon as the decision was reached to ask Babangida to step down, he stopped attending further meetings.  He had achieved his revenge.

Abacha rehabilitated Buhari with the chairmanship of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) before he (Abacha) died in 1998.  When Obasanjo returned to power in May 1999 as civilian president, he found that over 2.5 billion naira had not been properly accounted for in the PTF and that there was not much on the ground to show for the colossal expenditure the agency was claiming. On the day Obasanjo announced the scrapping of the PTF, a non-staff brother-in-law of the boss, allegedly serving as his conduit on some PTF projects, died suddenly from what appeared to be heart failure. Most of what he was able to achieve in the PTF, was focused in his backyard.  Haruna Adamu, who was appointed by Obasanjo to investigate the PTF before finally consigning it to the dung heap, quickly pocketed one hundred million naira of PTF’s money before operating table could be set up for him, thus forcing Obasanjo to hurriedly close the place down without further investigations.  Buhari has been trying desperately since to return to power, perhaps to get a chance to shred the PTF documents?

couldn't it be argued idiagbon was the bigger visionary in that regime? can buhari rule without a strong sidekick?

well you could also argue buhari surrounds himself with the right people
Shortly after Buhari siezed power, he announced that he wanted to resign. Informed observer put the reason for this as, that he had accomplished his primary task, which was to destroy all documents and lock up everyone that could have increminated him in the theft of $2.8billion from the NNPC. Fela amongs a lot of other people was locked up at the time.

After that announcement, Idiagbon took over and Buhari was a mere figurehead. All the attributes of that regime are due only to Idiagbon.

Quote from Beaf Yes Danbazzau is the only one affected as he is the only person is the army that the president can sack

@ Chyz
No body can sack a military officer just like that the military is not like a private company to the president that he can sack just like that

@Beaf and @Chyz
Other military officers xcluding the service chiefs can not be sacked rather they can be "dismissed" and only if they go against the rules
. . .Maybe you don't quite understand the title, "Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces."

I can only imagine, Gbawe. This political "cover my back" is every where in the world. The United States even have it that is why they go to some useless wars at a point that only leaves the world in a worse state.

But nonetheless, I really have to thank you for giving me some insight.

But you must also know that since I started to follow Nigerian politics, Jonathan has been painted as the most "noble" Nigerian president ever and I bought it.
Thanks for your concern for Nigeria, it is most appreciated. Foreigners always have a better view, because they are not directly involved.

You are right about your assessment of Jonathan, he is a great guy who is steadily uprooting the corrupt hegemonies that have stamped Nigeria underfoot since 1966.
Most of the criticism comes from people who are rabidly tribalist (for instance, look up the Tanko Yakasai); they have built this anti-Jonathan thing into a huge industry that regularly churns out lies and really dangerous rumours (for instance, google "Daily Trust Nigeria"wink.
They have also used their influence in to display power in crude ways, for example the Jos massacres; in which 500 souls, including day old babies were chopped up and set alight, check this (discression adviced) http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=Jos%20massacres&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1235&bih=501

Jonathan has actually been a man of action in his 4 months in office. It is just the old powers that were no good for Nigeria that are griping against Jonathan. They are raging, because his very first steps were to reorganise the Nigerian National Petroleum Coorporation and block all loopholes through which oil money was flowing directly into private pockets. He also blocked the sale of oil concessions that was to go on earlier this year. An example of what used to happen at these sales is choice blocks worth about $4billion were sold to the Chinese, but only about $600million was written into the Nigerian accounts. That has stopped and people are raging.

There is also the case of power supply, which has followed pretty much the same trajectory as oil. The generator magnates are suddenly seeing a drop in business and arent happy either.

Then of course, there is the group who deslike Jonathan because he is too quiet. There is nothing to say to such people except that, 60% of geniuses are quiet people. Jonathan has shown, over and over, that he is an intelligent man.

Jonathan is the man for 2011! He is the best thing that has happened to this country.

The Svc Chiefs were since due for change due to their long years of service, they have been expecting it since GEJ took over(guess its no surprise to them), also considering the fact that the stability of the polity depends much on such appointments, every new regime needs to come in with his own loyalist to guarantee his security, that of the nation, and of course do his bidding. The appointment of the COAS is more important in this regard because they are the land forces and their strength is about double that of the other 2 services (air and maritime combined), they also have presence in all parts of the country. The changes thou politicaly inclined because of the timing is also a good and welcome dev in the forces due to several dissafection among the ranks were marginalization in the army was claimed to be the other of the day. The move does not necc mean other Maj Gen will be retiring like someone speculated, depends on the NDA Course of the new COAS, gues he is of Course 18, and so those above him will either be retired or moved to departments under the Defence HQ were they will answer to the Defence Chief. O yes the new Army Chief will be promoted to Lt Gen so he becomes above others, he will thereby select his cabinet were some people will be uplifted and others loose theirs. I think the Army is more proffessional than what a lot of us think, atleast if compared to a lot of other organizations, they also got a lot of brains there too, thing is, we mostly just jugde by the low ranking ones we see, try mixing with the officers you will understand were am coming from.
Yeah, I pushed the retirement angle pretty hard earlier in this article, but I hadn't got enough information. The picture you have drawn is quite complete.

I said he cant sack a military officer if not the service chiefs not even a sarge  cheesy cheesy

Why didnt you say that your slogan "IBB people = Foolish people" ? this time ----which would soon change
Dude everything you said above (apart from the large type) is 100% wrong.
I wonder why you think the list of generals is irrelevant, especially after you claimed the Dambazau is the only general affected? shocked shocked shocked shocked

you said "all lt generals and above must now retire" well the army since 2009 (after azazi) didnt have a General
And there is only lt general that is the Danbazzau he is still a lt general till he pulls out and the army chief gets promoted

And you said Must retire there isnt like i said but i hope you are aware that the president, commander in chief and the chairman of the newly formed armed forces council DOES NOT have the power to sack any military officer except the service chiefs he cant sack even a sergeant cheesy cheesy cheesy like when azazi was the unimaid commander after being the defence chief can not be scaked by jonathan or any other president he left cause he got to either 60 years or 35 yrs in service
The President sack any govt servant outside of the elected arms of govt.

Dambazau is not the only general, Major General Ihejirika is a general too, Dambazau has more stars and thats it. These other dudes are generals too (I believe Major General Ihejirika was promoted later than them);

I wonder what poor IBB thinks of the sacking of the service chiefs. The man has so much potential to cause chaos in the country, something recognised as far away as the US, hence they have sent several delegations to talk with him.

IBB = Cabal leader.
Politics › Re: Jonathan Replaces Police Boss And Service Chiefs by Beaf: 10:15pm On Sep 08, 2010
The most important part of the sacking of service chiefs and the appointment of a relatively low ranking officer, is that all lt generals and above must now retire.
. . .That includes all the fcking JTF mudafcking generals. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Instead of simply retiring Dambazau, cool Uncle bidded his time and has unleashed a veritable coup.

The amount of damage the extremists could do to a govt owned prison is mind boggling.

Boko Haram attacks Bauchi prison
September 8, 2010 04:38AM

Suspected members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, yesterday evening attacked the Bauchi central prison and set the place ablaze and freed members of the sect who were jailed there following last year’s unrest. Other prisoners were also reportedly released by the sect members.

The prison is close to the palace, and the emir of Bauchi, Muhammadu Rilwanu Suleyman Adamu, reportedly went into hiding shortly after the start of the exchange of gunfire between the assailants, men of the Nigeria police force and prison guards.

The evil apartheid regime had its supporters in Pretoria, Washington and London, while the Biblical Satan has its followers. So there is nothing outstanding if Babangida has his own lovers.

Babangida is like the tortoise who is embarking on a fruitless journey, and when asked: “Mr Tortoise, Mr Tortoise, Mr Tortoise, when are you coming back?” The Tortoise replied “Not until I have been disgraced, disgraced, not until I have been disgraced!”
Apt.
