Politics › Re: Boko Haram: Police Dispels Reprisal Attacks by Beaf: 2:09am On Dec 28, 2009
Meanwhile, the Police, through the instrumentality of the Operation Flush II, have embarked on a "stop and check" exercise on strategic points in the metropolis, as well as four major roads leading into Maiduguri, the state capital with a view to averting any reprisal attack.
Is that to say there is some truth in the rumours then?

SEFAGO:
Thats the word, I was trying to find diplomats and policy institutes. Dont forget these diplomats are taught by the academics and academics are the ones usually quoted, and who do research for policy institutions. I remember sitting in a lecture where this guy kept on referring to the terrorist institution in Nigeria called MEND and how America has to cut ties with countries like Nigeria with significant terrorist activities, by seeking alternative energy. This isn't a jab, if you could find one respected diplomat or policy who doesn't consider MEND a terrorist group.

Infact long before Umar, most americans I met who studied international policy at always asked me about the growing terrorist threat by the MEND.
I believe they are questioning you with reference to Nigeria's stability (and by extension, the bottom lines of Chevron, Exxon mobile etc). Looking at security websites, there is an almost ambiguous position; while MEND's methods are sometimes classified as terrorist, there is an equal reckoning with the circumstances of the ND; in fact, in a lot of reviews, there is no classification at all.

Regardless of any of the above, MEND is not seen as an enemy of Western interests and the US has repeatedly expressed its wish that the "amnesty" will succeed.
Perhaps, if there were fewer criminal elements involved (now largely taken care off by "amnesty"wink, it would have been easier to link up. Of course there are wider regional interests, but I can assure you, they must be narrowing as we speak.

SEFAGO:
Well they are looking in the worng place. From experience, MEND is classified as a terrorist group by academics all over America. I spend 85% of my time trying to convince americans that MEND is not a terrorist group but a social movement. However I have not been successful grin
You are looking in the wrong place, because academics don't determine foreign policy. That is the job of diplomats and policy institutions.

What pains me most about 2009? The stupidity of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who just 3 days after turning 23 has blown his di.ck off in a sick attempt to take out innocent souls. His "ability" to enjoy his 72 virgins in paradise must baffle him quite a lot now grin

By DEVLIN BARRETT
Dec 27, 2:24 PM EST

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Associated Press has learned that a second Nigerian man has been taken into custody aboard a jetliner in Detroit after locking himself in the airliner's bathroom.

A law enforcement official tells the AP that the incident took place aboard the same Northwest flight that was attacked on Christmas Day. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the incident was ongoing.

A Delta spokeswoman says all 256 passengers have been safely taken off the plane. Delta operates the Northwest flight.

Bankole frustrates motion to discuss president’s absence

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, yesterday frustrated moves by the lawmakers to discuss the health of President Umaru Yar’Adua and calls for him to handover power to the vice president, Goodluck Jonathan.

The Action Congress (AC) leader in the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, had invoked Order 5 (1) (2) of the House Standing Rules and the Seventh Schedule of the 1999 Constitution dealing with the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office of the President and said “there is an issue that is prompt and central in the country right now. Section 145 rules out any possible act of vacuum in the country.”

“Sit down”

http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5497429-146/story.csp

However, when Mr. Gbajabiamila was about to read the relevant section of the constitution, Mr. Bankole stopped him, saying “I rule you out of order. Sit down.”
Says it all.
