For that fact this coup brought in Babangida, the Grand Master of corruption in Nigeria, one shouldn't take any of these statements in the address serious. They were just empty words. It was some greedy Nigerian civilian elites that helped to make the coup a success. Most especially NKO Abiola. Story is that he connived with the Saudi Arabia govt to invite tough-man Idiagbon who was the second-in-command to Buhari, for the hajj in Mecca. The coup wouldn't have succeed if Idiagbon was in town. In fact, the Saudi govt was expecting him to seek refuge in their country. He choose to return home to be arrested on arrival.

Yes, Buhari made few mistakes then but things would have changed for the better because they were attacking the main problems then. That was corruption and indiscipline in every day life. Some merchants who were hoarding their products to sabotage the economy had their wares sold to the public. I was in my early teenage years then and knew what was going on. Many Nigerians then had got used to lawlessness and chaotic ways of doing things. That coup ought not to be celebrated because it was a "frying pan to fire" situation. Babangida, the smiling General finally wrecked the economy. He brought in IMF's Structural Adjustment Program and devalued the Naira. Many criminal bankers made a fortune from this, including a friend that used to work with Oceanic bank. They were diverting forex. How about failed banks with opening of so many crooked banks that made away with people's fund causing near collapse of the banking system in early 90s. I was in university days by this period and lost money to a wonder bank too. A lot of corrupt Nigerians had a field day.

Ask yourself why some of us that had high expectations for the second-coming of Buhari, where the expectations came from. It was purely due to his high-handed fight against corruption during his regime in the 80s. Because if someone had the boldness to attempt to smuggle a corrupt Dikko, a former Nigerian minister, out of Britain in a crate, then that suggest that he would go after corrupt people seriously on his second coming. But the expectations were misplaced because that was a military govt that operates with decrees and this new Buhari is not the same one. He already dined with the devils, Jagaban and Amaechi at al.
Thanks for your enlightenment....guys will rather turn a blind eye to the damage caused by IBB regime to our economy . They ll rather chase Shadows- buhari this..buhari that...
Granted this current administration still got a lot of grounds to cover ranging from security to economy...we only need to support them and equally castigate them when they err like the $29b loan in view..

FLASHBACK:

THE SPEECH DELIVERED BY BRIGADIER JOSHUA NIMYEL DOGONYARO AFTER BUHARI'S DETHRONEMENT ON AUGUST 27, 1985

I, Brigadier Joshua Nimyel Dogonyaro, of the Nigerian Army, hereby make the following declaration on behalf of my colleagues and members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Fellow country men, the intervention of the military at the end of 1983 was welcomed by the nation with unprecedented enthusiasm. Nigerians were unified in accepting the intervention and looked forward hopefully to progressive changes for the better. Almost two years later, it has become clear that the fulfillment of expectations is not forthcoming.

Because this generation of Nigerians and indeed future generations have no other country but Nigeria, we could not stay passive and watch a small group of individuals misuse power to the detriment of our national aspirations and interest.

No nation can ever achieve meaningful strides in its development where there is an absence of cohesion in the hierarchy of government; where it has become clear that positive action by the policy makers is hindered because as a body it lacks a unity of purpose.

It is evident that the nation would be endangered with the risk of continuous misdirection. We are presently confronted with that danger. In such a situation, if action can be taken to arrest further damage, it should and must be taken. This is precisely what we have done.

The Nigerian public has been made to believe that the slow pace of action of the Federal Government headed by Major-General Muhammadu Buhari was due to the enormity of the problems left by the last civilian administration.

Although it is true that a lot of problems were left behind by the last civilian government, the real reason, however, for the very slow pace of action is due to lack of unanimity of purpose among the ruling body; subsequently, the business of governance has gradually been subjected to ill-motivated power play considerations. The ruling body, the Supreme Military Council, has, therefore, progressively been made redundant by the actions of a select few members charged with the day-to-day implementation of the SMC’s policies and decision.

The concept of collective leadership has been substituted by stubborn and ill advised unilateral actions, thereby destroying the principles upon which the government came to power. Any effort made to advise the leadership, met with stubborn resistance and was viewed as a challenge to authority or disloyalty.

Thus, the scene was being set for systematic elimination of what, was termed oppositions. All the energies of the rulership were directed at this imaginary opposition rather than to effective leadership.

The result of this misdirected effort is now very evident in the country as a whole. The government has started to drift. The economy does not seem to be getting any better as we witness daily increased inflation.

The nation’s meager resources are once again being wasted on unproductive ventures. Government has distanced itself from the people and the yearnings and aspirations of the people as constantly reflected in the media have been ignored.

This is because a few people have arrogated to themselves the right to make the decisions for the larger part of the ruling body. All these events have shown that the present composition of our country’s leadership cannot, therefore, justify its continued occupation of that position.

Furthermore, the initial objectives and programmes of action which were meant to have been implemented since the ascension to power of the Buhari Administration in January 1984 have been betrayed and discarded. The present state of uncertainty and stagnation cannot be permitted to degenerate into suppression and retrogression.

We feel duty bound to use the resources and means at our disposal to restore hope in the minds of Nigerians and renew aspirations for a better future. We are no prophets of doom for our beloved country, Nigeria. We, therefore, count on everyone’s cooperation and assistance.

I appeal to you, fellow countrymen, particularly my colleagues in arms to refrain from any act that will lead to unnecessary violence and bloodshed among us. Rest assured that our action is in the interest of the nation and the armed forces.

In order to enable a new order to be introduced, the following bodies are dissolved forthwith pending further announcements: (a) The Supreme Military Council (b) The Federal Executive Council (c) The National Council of States. All seaports and airports are closed, all borders remain closed.

Finally, a dusk to dawn curfew is hereby imposed in Lagos and all state capitals until further notice. All military commanders will ensure effective maintenance of law and order. Further announcements will be made in due course. God bless Nigeria.

I laugh at d manner people comment on this forum....all dogoyaro highlighted was slow pace of govt business....
How did Babangida and his co travellers left govt after 8 years rule?
IBB introduced Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) with d aim of having access to IMF loans! We are still I that shit till date
Encouraged importation of substandard or so called tokunbo goods ranging from vehicles to electronics killing the existing vehicle assembly plants... Volkswagen in Lagos comes to mind....
IBb met exchange rate at N4 to 1 dollar and left it at N85 to a dollar in 1993!!!!
Yet all these infinite generation kids will rather blame PMB for being slow, border closure with aim of increasing our local production capacity etc....
If we had moved slowly but steadily since 1984..in terms of infrastructural development, encouraging local manufacture etc...we surely will be better off today...My candid opinion though

shugaboy6102:
This is my story and I will appreciate if the mods can push it to front page so that others can read and learn from me, and I also need your honest comments and advice because you could be saving a drowning man.

I Am 29 years of age, a civil engineer by profession and a sanguine by temperament. Before my youth service @ age 24 I got my girl friend pregnant and I was scared of abortion so we decided to keep the baby with the full support of my mother and she agreed because I was an only son. After that, we proceeded to see her people with my mum and relatives to my girl friends village and we paid something on her head but didn't complete the whole traditional right, but this was not even the traditional wedding proper.

After that we saw ourselves as husbands and wife and we were living fine for sometime. After sometime, the relationship took a different turn as we were always fighting and didn't agree on even the slightest matter. I remember vividly one occasion we fought over a female colleague @ work who sent me a whatsapp message and why we fought was that she came to my work place and fought the young lady openly embarrassing me in the process in front of everyone.

There were times I would try to reconcile but she would blatantly refused, sometimes she will tell me she is fed up of this thing we call marriage and that she's looking for someone that I too should look for someone else.

Fast-forward I met a lady and one thing led to another and I started picking interest in her. It was never my intention to be with another woman but I don't have peace of mind and I feel I am loosing my mind.

Note: I haven't wedded in a church before or done a full traditional marriage. Here comes the question: would it be considered a divorce if I quit this union and marry this new lady?

I am full of unhappiness and pain and I don't want to live a life of endurance and pity. Pls nobody should pressure you into getting married, marriage is not a license to live a happy life. If you are single, I envy you.
Bros watch yourself....I want to believe that you are not completely honest with us..all u said was your wife's faults or error..non of yours was mentioned and u want us to believe that shit u wrote?
My marriage is over 12years and I can tell from ur write up u Ain't completely honest...

RomanceRe: I Accommodate Her In My House, Now I Am In Love With Her by beejay85: 7:29pm On Dec 13, 2019
ElonEmpire:
I met this girl online, we happen to come from same LGA, We got talking and later became friends.

Months later she complained about having accommodation Issue. Now, me am hardly around because of the nature of my job so I felt is OK letting her go stay there at least to keep my apartment warm and clean.

Though this is not the first time am doing that,
For over 5 years now it has been people staying in my house because in a year I don't even sleep more than 2 months in my house.

The last person that stayed there was also a lady the few times I go home during her stay we are OK, more like brother and sister. In fact neighbors actually thought we were.

Now come this new girl I don't know her before, infact she has spent like 6 months in my house before I went back.

During those times she was catching feelings for
me weda she is serious about it or not I don't know but I told her point blank that I'm into a serious relationship and she should maintain her boundary when ever I come back.

Months later i travelled and see her in person..
To say that she is beautiful is understatement, she is definition of beauty. She is irresistable.

I have traveled couple of time after the first time and each of this time I try so hard to maintain my dignity, self respect and not to misbehave.
We sleep on same bed, though i have decide to be sleeping on the floor or another room. She changes in my presence.

I'm seriously going crazy right now about this girl..
Infact I see my self getting Jealous about the guy she is seeing recently.

I don't know how to hand the situation, I can't afford to misbehave because, 1st she call me brother.

2ndly considering the circumstance that brought her to my house I can't afford to misbehave because am this one person who don't like taking advantage of women.

And lastly I can't cheat on my girl.
But I can't ask her to leave because for now she have no where to go.

Please how do I handle the situation?!
Bruv....
You sound like who doesn't know what he wants....
She already sees u as such.....I ll suggest to keep ur distance....this kind of relationship ends disastrously
