Nobody is talking about changing coupon rates. It was just a discussion on how inflation rate can affect coupon rate set by the issuer. Tb is also a debt instrument. Difference is it's one year or less and there is no coupon.
So it's always issued at a discount- this is how profit is made. So there are Treasury bills & there are bonds.

@ illuminated 93: But note that the coupon rate doesn't change. Remember the dictionary meaning of a bond!
Once you as the issuer set the coupon rate, you can't change it till maturity.
Then you didn't talk about the gain due to issuing at a discount- read what I wrote about ds.

Pple make moni from bonds and tbs. Banks make a lot from ds. Pension fund administrators & asset management firms make most of deir revenue from bonds & tbs.

Bond rates & prices can be checked on fmdq daily quotations.

Basics: A bond is a debt to an issuer or a debt investment to a buyer. They can have a tenor of as long as 50 years.
Coupon - semi annual interest payment. A coupon of 8% means you get a payment of 4% of the face value of d bond every 6 months.
face value: Amount you get back on maturity of investment.
The coupon is also based on this.
Premium: A bond of facevalue of #100 sold at109 was sold at a premium.
Discount: A bond of face value of #100 sold for below #100 was sold at a discount. Discount is opposite to premium.
Par: A bond of face value of #60 sold for #60 was sold at par.

There are FGN Bonds & Corporate bonds. FGN Bonds are issued by d federal govt. Corporate bonds are issued by companies. They can be denominated in naira or dollars(euro bonds)
Yield: Total expected inflows minus total outflow all over total outflow.
Now total outflow is cost of buying the Bond(either at premium or discount).
Total inflows = total coupons over tenor of bond + facevalue of bond( u know u get this facevalue back on maturity)

The higher the inflation rate, the higher the yield of a bond should be.
It doesn't make sense that my investment has a lower purchasing power after maturity than before start date.

Talking about 16 years of PDP Vs 1+ year of APC.....

1. PDP met a bag of rice at less than N2500 in 1999, but left it at N11,000 in 2015 when they left power.

2. PDP met the Dollar at N20 when they came in 1999, but left it at N220 in 2015 when they were leaving.

3. PDP met petrol pump price at N11 when they came in 1999 but left it at N87 when they were leaving in 2015.

4. PDP met a bag of cement at less than N400 but left it at N2000 while they were leaving in 2015.

5. PDP met a tin of milk at N15 in 1999 but left it at N100 when they left in 2015.

6. PDP met only OPC in 1999 but left us with Niger Delta militancy, Avengers, MASSOB, IPOB, BAKKASI and Boko Haram as at when they left in 2015.

7. PDP was ushered in with a free and fair election in 1999 by the military but they left us with ballot box snatching, rice sharing for campaigns, do-or- die politics, political assassinations, etc...

8. Hmmm even Life expectancy for Nigerians was 59 years when PDP came in 1999 but PDP left it at 42years...

All these outlined problems are the legacy of the PDP led government.

The ppl and party that brought Nigeria and Nigerians to her knees are again offering Nigeria advice on governance, can someone tell them to please let us give this administration its four years, before judgement.

What they couldn't do in 16yrs, they demand this administration to deliver in one year.

Are these people serious ? I think we have to stop blaming Buhari's govt, for inherited problems his administration is working hard to solve.

Bro, u don't know how some soldiers behave. There are situations when movement of logistics items (food inclusive) poses a lot of danger and these soldiers are fully aware but rather than taking it the way it comes, u see them making mountains out of mole hills and because of this democracy (which we are not matured for) u will see many people who know nothing about the situation taking to social media spewing all manners of rubbish.
Okay, just look at the case in point, if things were normal, will food be transported by air rather than roads? And the GOC himself had to accompany the food. Why do u think a whole General should accompany food items meant for soldiers under normal situation? Bro, there are things that are not just right.
If a proper court Martial were to be held and appropriate punishment awarded, they will start behaving like orphans.
Note, I'm not justifying the situation of going for days in battle front without food but there a times when u can't help it.
I'm not a military personnel but I have had interactions with many disciplined soldiers who had gone for several peace-keeping missions both within and outside Nigeria.
Some of these personnel lack the basics of professionalism.
