@Op,
Wish you could get the thread to your brother-in-law.
If it is true your sister doesn't know what she did to warrant such unhealthy attitude from the lady and the husband couldn't a reason, then the blame is on the husband.
There are situations that diplomacy doesn't solve any issue like this one. How on earth will someone be living under my roof and be keeping malice with my wife. It cannot happen.... Even my mum cannot try it.
The only solution is for the husband to send her out and deal with whatever reactions from family members. Sure, it will create enemies for your sister but it will slide with time and with the intervention of wise elders in the family.
The man should MAN UP. |

suigeneris2: Thanks for the tip bellong, but I have a question for u. Can a breast feeding mother who's overweight try this weight loss plan. Though the child in question is already 6 months old. Just on complementary diet. What do u say to that? Since the child is already 6 months, if you can withstand the stress/hunger of this diet, you can try it. |

Sure? Priscilla's name was mentioned first. I am 100% it was for a reason
The Bible guys don't sound like someone who would let such slide Guess I have to apologize for late response too . I have been very busy. Priscilla's name came first in verse 18 when they went with Paul to Syria. This is to show probably the order of the sitting arrangement. In verse 26 where they took Apollos in, Aquila's name came first and madam Priscilla followed. Do you get it? |

Bukatyne, You were referring to Acts 18:26. The instruction was not single-handedly done by Priscilla, her husband, Aquila was there. It wouldn't be out of place to say Priscilla was more like offering supporting service. |

Either the bank staff you met didn't understand your question or you didn't explain to him/her well. The secure code the page is asking for is different from the three digit security code at the back of your card. For online transactions, Mastercard usually ask for a secured code which you can generate by activating your card for it on internet banking platform. You need to get a token for internet banking, go to activate card and complete the process. The code you input there is the security code you will be using for online transaction when requested. |

bukatyne: Priscilla taught Apollos ( a man). You mean women can teach men privately but cannot teach in a congregation of men? What about singing as per choirsters?
I don't get the evangelistic stuff. They were the General Overseers of their church.... For example like Pastor Adeboye (head of RCCG) is now?
So sorry for the late response.
How was your Sunday and family?
Your diet wan kill me! Priscilla taught Apollos? A man mighty in scriptures? Priscilla's house was used as a local assembly at the time. Women can express the gifts of the Spirit in the church and can partake in other activities including joining the choir except teaching. Their calling was to be an evangelist not Apostles. The fact that great Grace was upon them in doing exploit led them to start a movement. The fact that they did it doesn't mean it was right. The diet is not easy but it is worth it. I hope after the diet, your husband will allow you to be going out because "na munching time always..." |

TV01: Well said - and very true
Everyone has the right to their preferences - and responsibility for the attendant consequences. If she misses out due to the restictions she places, that's her fault and burden. And if the shared background helps her have a smooth marital journey, well done to her. I completely agree that everyone has right and should be free in their choices especially tribe and race. My friend was dating a non-Yoruba speaking girl long time ago that he had to let her go because of her "language insecurity". Anytime the girl came visiting and coincidentally friends also were around and they were chatting, jesting in Yoruba language, the girl in question would leave the sitting room to be crying inside. Her reason was that they were discussing about her and making jest of her which was very very untrue. My friend has a mother who doesn't speak English, he had to let her go before misunderstanding turns her mum to a witch... 'Sup Bellong - I think this is known as the "A stitch in time saves 9" approach . Why wait until desperations sets-in? Then you have to read all Woged2005 threads on marriage "adjustments" for the over 30's !
TV Hey bro... I'm good. Oh ok.... I hope and pray she gets what she wants. onegig: Is she? I don't think so. She's actually taking things into her hand which is good only thing i don't ascribe to her giving age barriers. A man who's are age mate or even a year older might be the perfect match for her. But all the same, I guess it's her choice. Ok.. I asked her the question but she didn't reply. Wanted to be sure she is not doing it out of desperation. |

Bplati: Thank you for this. We are married o.. Before they agreed with the traditional rite sef. Na wahala, hence the diplomacy. I'm extremely tired of their domineering behavior. I'll get my family back and stand on what I believe. Just scared of the Yoruba culture thingy. The family believes I'm the one that can help convince their son and he affirmatively said NO. I can only support my Hubby's decision. Worrisome. Parental curse can only have impact if the child did something wrong... "As birds by wandering.. curse curseless shall not come." When you are pressured, tell them their son is the head of the family and whatever he decides is what you will abide with. So they should talk to their son. |
Family › Re: Life Issues Of Religion Differences by bellong: 11:29am On Apr 18, 2015 |
Bplati: I'm from a Muslim background and so is my hubby. We have two children. My family is liberal and allowed us to practice whatever religion that pleases us. I'd been going to church even before I met hubby who was also a church goer. Hubby's family is very strong in Islam and had threatened to disown us if we don't practice the religion. They even want to sponsor our pilgrimage to hajj but we are not interested. We started playing diplomacy by pretending to be who we are not especially when they are around or we go visiting. Right now, I'm not even going to church neither am I practicing Islam because I'm fed-up. Isn't religion about serving God? Why the superiority in religion? Can people serve whoever God they prefer?. I fear for my kids because I really want to raise them to know God. Its really affecting me psychologically and contemplating relocating with the kids.
Pls advise me. Are you guys still dating or married? The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria accords the right to every individual adults freedom of choice of religion. I want to believe you guys are above 18 and I don't see any reason why non-violent threat from another adult should disturb you. It is left for you and your husband/boyfriend to take a stand and stop being diplomatic about issues. It has not been resolved because they know you guys are weak in your decision. Therefore, the pressure wouldn't subside but will keep increasing. Once you take a known stand and defy their threat to do whatever you want, they will either disown you or allow you to practice whatever you choose. There is no need of entertaining fear, the ball is in your court. |

bukatyne: Thanks
I get the laziness...
@Women teaching/preaching/leading in the Church: I am not hung up on that because I believe that people are called to do it so if God does not call a woman, she should sit her butt. If you don't want me, why should I bother myself?
@Bible saying women should not teach: I have read and I do not get that from the bible
We have the likes of Priscilla (who preached in the Synagogue, John Mark's mother had a church in her home etc.). We also have women who did greatly for God (Kathryn Kulman, Anne Mc'Steeple) etc.
Does it mean God did not call them?
However, my stand is still in the first paragraph... I would worry more about not been able to vote than not been able to preach in Church.
That's just me You didn't get the teaching aspect. They can teach others but not in the church when men are there. Kathryn Kulman and co that you listed all had evangelistic ministry/calling which was to bring in sheep into the fold. None of them had a pastoral or Apostolic ministry. The bible didn't forbid women from having or exhibiting the gifts of the spirit. |
