Why has Camelo waited till the tail end of his career before deciding to actually exert himself defensively. cheesy. I have a feeling this game won't look good for the lakers. AD is already shooting terribly from the free throw line.
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 11:30pm On Aug 22, 2020
Only recently? How recently? You mean as recent as the 80s? cheesy. Where were you when the centers like Kareem, Hakeem, Shaq e.t.c were the go to offensively. I included Shaq cos he played in the 90s too. But come to think of it, you may not be wrong. We can only mention a handful of centers who were great offensively. cheesy. We can not say the same for centers generally.
alexxiswrites:
Of course they are. It's even in recent times more emphasis is placed on what they can do offensively because basketball is becoming more of an all round sport with players taking on more roles.
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93:
Dominant offensively? Are you kidding me? The guy scores 15 points on the average. You come carry rebound enter the thing. Boy o Boy you don dabaru this thing oooo. cheesy. How about i try to be much clearer. The original argument was related to scoring. One is clearly by far better than the other when it comes to scoring. I gave you one example. Hakeem. You can go and check his stats. He was shooting 20% from 3. And i tell you he was more lethal than AD from the midrange. AD can only dream to be as multifaceted as the Dream was. cheesy.
steady986:
I mentioned defense just so you won't pick one over the other because one is clearly better in defense. It's the offensive styles I'm particular about. Gobert is dominant in the paint offensively, whether it's offensive rebounds or put-backs or dunks. The reason he doesn't score a lot of points is because he's not his team's primary focus on offense.

AD on the other hand is more midrange to 3 pointer, in addition to being dominant in the paint. It's obvious that teams would want the guy who can do more.

This Miami team dey craze ooo. Dem dey rain the threes like tomorrow no dey. cheesy
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 8:45pm On Aug 22, 2020
Are you kidding me right now? What kind of comparison is that. Gobert owns which paint? You comparing a 15 point per game center to 24 point per game center? Gobert is dominant? Defensively or Offensively?Until now our discussion had been mostly about offense-Mid-range shooting. How did defense come into this? You are reaching now man. Stay the course. Besides Gobert is not good from the midrange.
steady986:
Lol. What you don't want to do is leave an average shooter wide open. If you do that his numbers go up to 35% or more.

Are you telling me that if GS are going for a big man and have to choose between AD and Gobert they'd choose Gobert. Both are stars in their role. Gobert owns the paint, AD can handle the ball and shoot from outside. Both are excellent defenders, all stars and DPOY nominees. You'd take Gobert?
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 6:40pm On Aug 22, 2020
Why the heck should he move out beyond the arc? Running beyond the arc and hoping your opponent follows you out is like running away from your primary job. As a perimeter defender, if you choose not to post me up but instead recede to the 3 point arc, i would be glad you did it, as i know you are taking away shots from better shooters. I can live with a 30% 3 point shooter running out to the three point arc. Such relief. I don't understand the obsession with the 3 pointers. If i was defending a big man like KAT or Porzingis, in that case i may have no choice than to follow him to the three point line. But for AD, heck no. Good riddance.
If you get a big man that can shoot 3s above 35% cool. But you don't go into free agency or into a draft looking for one. It's unnecessary.
Moreso, it's even more unnecessary if you have a great shooting backcourt in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
In the case of GSW, the
steady986:
The way the game is going, big men who can't shoot threes won't be able to get jobs in the near future. We're not saying they should know how to shoot so they can dwell beyond the arc, it's just a very handy tool. Having big men who when they move out of the two point zone can drag the opposing big man with him is very valuable. Imagine Javale for instance. If he goes to the three point line the opposing big man can decide not to follow him because he knows he won't dare to shoot from there.

And we're not saying they must be lethal, just be able to shoot. A big man who shoots 30% from beyond the arc is dangerous. That alone is enough to take your guarder wherever you're going, especially when your team needs to spread the floor. And if he can handle the ball and drive to the basket, then he'll be even scarier. Because once you pump fake a big man at the perimeter and he falls for it, he's gone for good. You have about a 2-second headstart to drive to the basket.
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 3:00pm On Aug 22, 2020
Valid statement. You don't need your big man to shoot threes if you have the greatest(arguably) shooting back court in NBA history. Go to the post and do your work. That's primarily the Job of a center. You've got no business going out all the way to the three point arc. In my book that's for centers who've got no guts. Besides you may be very poor from the 3 point arc, but if you practise and try to master your midrange shots you could be shooting above 40%. Hakeem was 20% from threes, that's partly because he seldom shoots it, which means he doesn't quite practise those kind of shots, but he's as good as anybody else from beyond the perimeter. He was lethal from the midrange. If you are shooting less than 35% from threes- it doesn't matter who you are-you better go and work on your midrange. Apart from Kristaps and KAT that are shooting quite efficiently from 3, the others are shooting below 32%. Why not do your business within 13 ft of the basket? in which case you arel ikely to be more efficient. My point is shooting 3s when you are quite inefficient from the arc is a waste of time. Get closer to basket, where you can be more efficient.
steady986:
By extension, one who shoots threes should be capable of shooting mindranges smiley
And a big man who's capable of shooting threes is an added advantage. AD, Embiid, Towns, Porzingis...these guys can dominate in the paint and still be handy beyond the arc
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 12:22pm On Aug 22, 2020
Everybody obsessed with shooting threes. What we need is someoen who's decent from the midrange. When you have two incredible shooters i don't know why you need your big man to shoot threes. You especially need the midrange/post shots when those threes are not falling. Na fear you dey fear ni dissuading the Golden state from getting Giannis. cheesy. But yet Giannis is not quite good from the midrange so perhaps getting him may not be a good idea.
steady986:
If I'm the Warriors I'm picking a big man in the forthcoming draft. One that can shoot the three. No need going for Giannis.

Embid in this Philadelphia team against the Celtics is actually not a good match up. He just slows them down ,but well who else can they go to offensively. They looked actually more mobile offensively without him, which is expected.
I wish he was more mobile. The devastation he would be causing this celtics team!

It's ok for Ed to serve as the CEO. He's an investment banker. He knows his onions in that regard. At the same time inorder to be able to balance the scale with respect to football knowledge there has to be a football director. Someone who's better equipped to handle to player deals.
MRTA7:
My point is, you cannot absolve the Glazers of blame because "They have spent money". There is a lot of blame to be passed around to explain why United are where they are right now.

The ownership shows we are just a club serving profits for the owners. They are pretty much doing the minimum required to keep the club's strong brand and cash flowing to keep the profits coming.

The ownership is the reason we have Ed, someone who knows nothing about football to be in charge of one of the biggest football clubs in the world. Ed has done well on the Business side of the club but the football side he should have no hand in. A lot of our operations shows amateur hour. We simply do not know how to operate like big club anymore and havent since SAF. Even SAF was propping the club up with his work despite having his hand tied behind his back. Maybe he knew he had to accept the Glazers because he's a major reason they were able to buy the club. so he also has a hand in this current state.

This is before we even get to the football side which is a whole other conversation but a lot of these issues can be traced back to the owners.

Nope i know what he's capable of. What i think doesn't matter. Whether i want him to fail or not what will be will be. cheesy. I am just saying we don't want excuses when he loses. He has another top 5 player according to most viewers. So win it. The 50 point triple double thing is both sarcasm and realism mixed together. cheesy. He's done that before. He's chasing the GOAT status, so each loss in the finals is a dent in argument in his favor. Just saying. cheesy
mattfeuter:
Your earlier post reeks of someone waiting for him to fail. . . You said “he’s the king, drive through the traffic and score a 50 points triple double”.

You mean a washed up Clyde? Clyde was on the decline. Besides i was referring to the first one. If you had read my post carefully you would have realized i was talking about Lebron and AD winning this series. So ofcourse it's not over. Besides there's still a chance for a gentleman sweep. grin.

Honestly i wish Hakeem had better teammates at least a bonafide all-star for 6-7 seasons continuously. He had one in Sampson, and soon enough they got to the finals and lost to that great Celtics team. If Sampson had stayed healthy, his career would have been much better. Perhaps he owuld be up there with Jordan. That's why i don't quite agree Shaq had a better career or is a better player. Shaq got swept. At least Hakeem got two games against that Celtics team three years into the league. cheesy.
mattfeuter:
Oh really ?

Is the series over yet? This is just one game!

Here’s one thing you Lebron haters have to understand, one loss doesn’t determine the outcome of a series.

He was down twice in the 2018 playoffs and we all remember how that ended.

And about hakeem, he had Clyde drexler who’s a 10 time all star.

Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 6:31pm On Aug 19, 2020
Can you see what we have been talking about with respect to AD. After scoring 21 points in the first he could only get 7 in the second.
A40:
This game is a mixed bag but if you're the Blazers you are cautiously optimistic that LeNomad played reasonably well but the Lakers still lost. Bearing in mind Dame shot 9/21 but you were still able to win by 7

This is the same team that led the Warriors three times last season with double digits but still wound up losing so it had to be an encouraging sign that they were down late in the game and came back to win

Lakers will not shoot this poorly for the remainder of the series but if you're the Blazers the mere fact that there is no homecourt means Game 2 is not a given for the Lakers to win, there is no reason why you can't show up and 'steal' Game 2 as well

Also why is AD so scared to bang in the paint with the big boys. He needs to man up and play the 5.

And LeNomad. This is why I don't entertain comparisons between him and the GOAT. Once you can keep him out the paint you know he's a sub40% shooter outside 3ft
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 6:28pm On Aug 19, 2020
Stop it Man. Stop it. I don't give a damn. You have two top 5 players. So you should win this series. Hakeem won a championship without another All-star. If he's the king he must win it. Has it occured to that he probably is the reason his teammates are not doing well. He's the king. Drive through the traffic and score a 50-point triple double. cheesy
mattfeuter:
It’s not a narrative bro, it is the reality.

I grow up for Ghana now. So na first hand information. You asked for one underlying factor. That's it @BabaRamota. grin. I actually spoke with an elderly on the issue yesterday. I claimed that i kind of sympathize with the Ghanaians, and it's unfair that Nigerians are competing with Ghanaians for sales and he started by saying "Ọrọ ni, Ọrọ tun kọ ni" and then he reminded me about some of the underlying reasons.

A retaliation has no timeline, but as a statement of fact since the government didn't state it as a retaliation perhaps i can't explicitly call it that. Although i would prefer that a wrong done by a brother should be treated delicately. The Alien Compliance included other west Africans as well. it just so happens that the majority of them were Nigerians. I repeat again the painful part was Nigerians owned priced properties including chains of shops and stores at Makola and they lost most of it or got a bad deal in trying to transfer the properties to other people. The same cannot be said for Ghanaians living in Nigeria before "Ghana Must Go". Besides there are a lot of Lebanese businesses in Ghana that are not even worth a quarter of a million, but ofcourse Ghanaians won't bother those people. Besides i got the ladies comment wrong. She was actually referring to "Ghana Must go" as a retaliation agaisnt the compliance order by Busia.

Meanwhile i do have a problem with Nigerians competing with Ghanaians in retails. I would think most of these should be done by Ghanaians. But with respect to retail activities, a lot of Nigerians initially moved cos they got information that they could do so so sbusiness in Ghana cos Ghanaians were not quite involved in it. After a while Ghanaians learn the trade and well "you Anago people should go back to your country now" grin. There are Ghanaians in Nigeria indulged in very small businesses, but no one bothers them. We could go back and forth about the fact that there are a lot more Nigerians in Ghana than there are Ghanaians in Nigeria, but it is what it is.
jrtorrents:
The Alien Compliance Order in Ghana happened in 1969. Ghana Must Go happened in 1983.

Are you telling me it took 14 years for Nigeria to retaliate ?

Then again if it was just retaliation why were other Africans deported too? The order affected 2 million people, 1 million of them were Ghanaians, the remaining being other Africans.
Politics › Re: FG Reacts To Closure Of Nigerian Traders' Shops In Ghana by benji93: 2:43pm On Aug 18, 2020
That was a retaliation to a deportation order by Busua earlier in 1969. That was even more painful cos a lot Nigerians owned several properties which were taken over. Get your history right. Ok.
Queenlovely:
Ghana Must Go, was a popular name given to the migration of illegal Migrants ( mostly Ghanaians) from Nigeria following a Presidential executive order. In 1983, the President of Nigeria, Shehu Shagari issued an executive order
